The UD3R is a good board (I have two), especially as it supports all the relevant XEONs. Not the easiest BIOS to use for oc'ing, but certainly plenty of potential with the board itself, though I am a bit surprised you couldn't reach 4GHz with that i7 950 (quite time consuming though to properly establish the bclk limit, uncore, etc.) I recommend Miahallen's oc guide for those who wish to push their X58 platform to the limit, very thorough and methodical. I wonder what happened with the RAM? Do the DIMM part numbers suggest it was originally a triple channel kit and one of them has gone missing? I can't remember now to what extent not having the 3rd channel active made a difference to gaming. Back in the day, 3x4GB was the more common config.
I am still using first gen i7. Got an Intel i7 965 Extreme Edition on a Asus P6T motherboard (not SE or Deluxe version). Got it maxed out with 24GB of DDR3 ram. (I believe I have it in the 1600 or so range for ram speed). The P6T is a beast. It has SIX ram slots in tri-channel mode! Kinda wish I could put more then 24GB in it though. I know of other DDR3 boards that could go higher so odd the P6T is capped like that. Six ram slot DDR3 mobos seemed to go out of style quickly. A lot of the newer ones went to 4 or less. Maybe folks complained about the lack of space. I'm sure only the larger size mobos could accommodate that many ram slots. :P I'm using a EVGA 780 Ti with this build (would have went with a 980 or Titan back when I got this card but this was in 2021 and things were still pretty expensive. Also reason i went for that era card was to avoid having to use a DAC with my CRT monitor. There might be some decent external HDMI to VGA DACs out there but they are too expensive for me right now. The cheap ones are probably garbage and don't handle high refresh rate/resolutions very well. :( ). The card I had before this one was a GTX 650 which I used for several years. The card before that was a GT 240 which I still have! Found it installed in an old computer I had stashed in the closet. So still have most of my previous video cards. :P

I have an LGA1366 X58 system. Still runs great. You can get more performance with triple channel ram (I have 3 sticks of 4GB) and replacing the i7 950 with an X56XX cpu. I currently use an X5675 which has 6cores and ran me less than $20.
That's just their standard policy Usually banking on the fact then when it does die people don't claim the warranty, they honour warranty with their in-store credit or they give you a replacement/refund of what they think it's worth at the time of claim (nothing's stopping them from saying it's now only worth £60 after 3 months for example) Not knocking the warranty as either way no one comes close to it but just highlighting how they may go about it
@@yahyasajid5113 that's not true actually. the warranty covers the original value for the first 6 months and then it defaults to the lowest out of the current value or original value (current value is how much it is sold for at the time)

For an uncomfortably long time, I had someone using an i7 870 with a 3080 since they only had 1k to spend on pc upgrades. It worked better than expected since they exclusively wanted to play games at 4k but man was it the ugliest build on paper.
Getting newer CPU might be a hassle to do. Changing motherboard, ram, and cpu itself. Changing GPU is a lot easier since it pull out the old one and plug newer.
i went the other way, knowing todays market i shoulda got that 3090 and ran my ivy bridge i7 instead of my i9 10850k/3070 sff build i have now. not that im complaining but with todays knowledge i bet everyone would have jumped on a 3080/3070 or that 2080ti that sold for dirt cheap on ebay lol
Lol i actually still have my trusty i7 870 from 2012. Oc to 3.9 while paired with a rx 580 and it performed more than well enough for modern games, getting 45-75 fps depending on settings. Ive since upgraded to a much newer setup, while leaving my first pc with the family. Going on 10+ years and still kicking, though obviously being stuck on ddr3 and old platform is hurting more and more. Still a solid cpu thats held up over the years.
In my personal experience when it comes to cyberpunk 2077 and the x58 platform normally it runs pretty well. But I think the biggest limiting factor for you was memory bandwidth. Cyberpunks massive assets practically need fast triple channel memory just to load in properly. It also helps to have a westmere 6 core with 12 mags of l3. Versus the 8mags on the Bloomfield chips.
Yeah i can confirm x58 6 cores do pretty well in cyberpunk. I averaged around 45 fps with dips to around 30 (when driving) with an R9 fury. Frametimes aren't perfect but they were loads better than the combo in this video
Used to work there, it really varies wildly depending on each store, and the staff. Fairly frequently staff would set prices, not really having a solid idea of what they're selling. I always pop in whenever going by one, got some great deals on a few bits and pieces!
I'm waiting for you to cover my mix of awesome old school gaming, I'm still rocking a AMD1100T Black edition from 2011 overclocked to 4.2 GHZ with a GTX1650. Zero issues most games with 60 to 120 fps. Love this channel, keep it up!

I've been tinkering with a w3680 x58 lately. 4.0ghz really wakes it up and paired with a Rx 480 makes it a somewhat decent budget Gaming PC. I'd be interested to see how this PC performs with something better than 480

The great thing about x58 is the easy overclocks and Xeons work on many of the motherboards. You could have some serious fun with this old piece of tech. Many times, the Xeons can be overclocked more aggressively too.
I built a system on Ivy Bridge when it first came out and I used a Xeon E3-1230v2, which was like getting a i7 for i5 money. You also got the advantage that those things are designed for 24/7 server use, and the lower power made it perfect for ITX. That thing lasted for ages, only retired last year.
It's always a pleasure to see a video of X58 hardware. Asus P6X58D-E & Xeon X5650 on my 2nd rig and still does its job, paired with 18GB RAM & HD 7970.
G'day Random, Just having a cup of tea & a break from making some custom PSU Cables for my niece when I got notified 😁, All the people going on about needing a NEW GPU or CPU/Mobo Combo because you can't game without them, but there are plenty of games that run well enough to be lots of FUN with older Gen parts like these 🥰, I have a 1st Gen i7 Combo but mine is the i7-870 LGA1156 with a Gigabyte P55A-UD3R, they came with the Mobo Box & all the extras as the person I got them off really looked after them.
Interesting fact is these boards will run both Bloomfield (45nm) and Gulftown (32nm) chips . I have an Asus P6X58D-E board and from time to time I run a x5670 (Bloomfield ) but mostly use a i7 X980 (Gulftown) . The old i7 is still an excellent processor , but the Xeon is more fun to overclock ! Put a 6 core in it , add another stick of ram and the experience will improve no end ! Would love to see a video of an upgrade.
Great stuff! I was fortunate to nab a similar bargain off a certain social media marketplace. I got a Core i7 950 CPU with 6GB Corsair 1600Mhz Platinum DDR3 RAM on an ASUS X58 Sabertooth for under £30. It's running nicely on a 3.8GHz overclock.
I managed to get a great bargain while throwing caution to the wind and picked up an Novatech (Clevo) P170EM gaming laptop for £65. Had to spend another £60 on a 330W PSU and the laptop was sold as faulty. Managed to get it booted up and is working perfectly! I7 3610QM, 16GB DDR3 RAM, AMD 7970M 2GB, 1920x1080 screen, backlit keyboard. Got a cheap 512GB SSD to throw into it for £35. So for £155 a fully functioning gaming laptop and will look to upgrade the GPU to a GTX 1060/1070. Result!
Running a xeon x3470 plus 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 950, (upgrading soon to a rx 580 hopefully) still getting pretty decent performance with most games running high to medium at 1440 x 900 resolution... well see with if the cpu becomes a bottleneck at 1080p with the rx. 🤷♂️ Love your vids man!
I had one of these back in the Crysis days it was the recommended hardware for the game. I cannot remember what the CPU was now I7 2600 maybe?? It was bloody expensive back in the day I think I spent around £1,300 to build this PC just to play one game. I brought the game, installed it and I never played the game, I still have not played it on modern PC's with the remakes but it was why we built these systems for. I still have it in my cupboard now, the game that is and I still had the set up until about seven years ago.
My second pc contains a 1st generation i7 870, as well as a gtx 680 that I found in an e-waste bin. as the 680 is the 4gb model, it's actually quite capable even today.
As a respected RUclipsr, it is your duty, nay, privilege, to xeon it up! Since it's a Gigabyte board, I wouldn't count on ecc memory too much, but Xeon must work
Because of your videos I decided to get a custom pc from cex I liked the idea of not knowing exactly what I was getting so I spent £70 on a system with a g4400 8gb ddr4 ram and what was ment to be a gtx 670 2gb . What I got was amazing the g4400 is nothing special but it came with a nzxt AIO the ram was 2 4gb sticks of corsair platinum 3600mhz and the gyx 670 was the rarer evga gtx 670 FTW 4gb version I also got a surprise 250gb ssd that wasn't advertised and a 750w evga moduler psu . I sold the 670 for £100 and the g4400 for £30 stuck my spare r9 290x in it and used the profit to buy a i7 6700k and still made my money back so apart from the £27 the 290x cost me a few months ago I got a decent 1080p gaming system . If you know what to look for you can get a nice surprise. I knew it wasn't going to be an optiplex someone had stuck a gpu in because the 670 needs more pcie power connectors that a stock optiplex psu has so I was sure to get a nice surprise system I just had no idea how good it was going to be . I'm going to spend a bit more next time on somthing ryzen with a better gpu and see what surprises await
My current "gaming PC" uses a similar 4C/8T i7-870 and it still holds up quite well in modern games paired with a 1070Ti and NVme storage running on the 2nd PCIe connector. It does run at 3.8-4ghz (Asus motherboards supported 24-26x multiplier) on all core with turbo to 4.25ghz and has proven quite good over the past 2 years with 1080p gaming.
Those Scythe tower coolers are pretty good, their modern descendants do quite well in modern rigs. Judging from the wire management and the added bottom fan someone meant business when the built that if it's all original. Some of those old computer cases are worth a bit more than what one would think, though the shipping fees usually end up costing as much if not more. That case is a Fractal Design Define R5 I believe, a pretty nice understated case. I leaned towards sourcing a Corsair Vengeance C70 in military green for a short while but those things go for a pretty penny. Even worse with those raw (unpainted) aluminum/aluminium Lian-Li cases. Oldish gaming PC case sleeper PCs is kind of a niche now I believe.
My favorite system! I used to have X58 paired with i7 930 and I have to say that these CPUs were meant for overclock! I was able to get mine stable up to 4.5Ghz with 212 Evo cooler and good power supply because maaan, these cpus were power hungy.. Running benchmarks and games, the performance cpuwise was almost double compared to stock. Also it's best to use 3 stick of memory due to the three channels. I changed a few gpus thoughout it's life, the last one was 1060 and I happily retired the whole system on it's 10th year of service in 2020. Overall, I didn't have any issues playing whatever I want on very good or at least decent quality in the last years.
God I just love the look of the old MBs, this mix of creamy white and blue, especially on Gigabyte boards, so good, not like the modern all black or "red means gaming" MBs.
I used a X58 with an i7 940 for the longest time I only retired it a couple years ago. Maxed out all 6 slots with 32gb ram and paired it with a rx 580 and it played every game without a hiccup. Unfortunately the lack of any AVX instructions is why I had to finally give up on lga 1366.
I think the 660 TI is still very much is usable. Much like that I7. I'm more fond of the Nehalem i7s like the 860 but these are supposed to be better. Overall solid older system. Makes me wish we had a CEX in the States. Microcenter and Best Buy are goodish enough but CEX just seems to have better deals.
I have the same mobo and cpu and surprisingly it still works. I'm not using it at the moment though as I built a new system a couple of years ago but the old system ran quite well for many years.
I still have an x58 for daily driver. Une or two years ago I change the 950 for a x5650, the 2 extra cores+the low power+the qpi speed increase, make a good improvement. I have it on the rampage 3 formula, 48gb of ram and a gtx 1070
I am still sporting my X58 combo with an i7 980X (6 Core, 12 Threads) @4.4 12GB DDR 1600 as well as an overclocked 1080...also, I am using SSDs which are put into PCIE 4x slots using an adapter, since my motherboard has 3 PCIE 16X slots...these ssds are 4 times as fast as the normal ones connected via SATA, which is stone age SATA, I don't even know which generation is on my board...kickass system, running everything in 1080p with ultra or high...Witcher 3 even in 1440p with ultra...I really love my old but gold gaming PC and don't plan on upgrading it anytime soon...
My 3GB EVGA FTW 660 ti is actually my favorite pairing for my Xeon x5675. It's still a pretty decent card especially for the $55 I paid for it. Mine doesn't have a few of the issues that that one has such as having 3gb of vram, it having a good cooler(altough still blower style), and being heavily factory overclocked.
Whoa, I recently retired a system VERY similar. It has the exact same motherboard (it's a beast! And still sought after by some overclock-aficionados) but I've replaced the 4-cores i7-950 with a 6-core Xeon x5650 (which has a much lower TDP, allowing for a decent overclock to close the frequency gap). Previously to that, I had replaced the GTX550TI that came with that build for a 1050ti. Memory-wise, I got the build already maxed out with 6x4Gb for a total of 24Gb of ram. Must say that the triple-channel DOES give a little bit of headache from time to time (and doesn't like any spec of dust anywhere close to the memory slots), but the performance is there, so I recommend going at least 12Gb of ram with 3x4Gb...
Nice. I have a Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme motherboard with a Xeon X5687 and 6x4 GB (colour matched, blue & black) DDR3. Toyed with the idea of getting a Lian Li O11 to make a "display piece" machine.
i had actually been running the lowest end of the first gen i7s until just last year, that being the i7 920, and i gotta say it's surprising how good the porformace is considering it's 14 years old at this point.
I spent my first 3 paychecks in an i7-920 step D0 cooled by a Noctua NH-U12P, Asus P6T, 12GB Corsair Dominator (with the ram cooler), Sapphire HD 4890 Toxic OC 1GB GDDR5, Corsair HX750W and the HAF Mini 922M. With a 1080p 24" monitor other various stuff I spent 3000€ in late 2008 (yes, I got the first i7 on day1, best decision ever). I changed the graphics card 3 times and dismissed the system only 2 years ago, after 12 years of intense usage. It still runs, and I'm never going to sell it or throw it away. Best platform ever, super stable and capable of doing every single task you throw at it. Never seen a better product ever made by anyone. The feels ... you can see the system and the mods I did on the case on the techpowerup mod gallery (techpowerup com slash gallery slash 2246 slash details). as always love the videos and keep up the good work
My mum's pc has an i7-870 and a gtx 960 2gb. My mate was getting rid of it, and surprise surprise- one day when I was bored, I had just about managed to play borderlands 2 at 30fps. It didn't look great, but I completed half of the game like that while I was waiting on a replacement gpu for my build just after the pandemic started.
Since i really like the old 1366 Platform myself i know it is still capable of some modern games. Have you ever tried disabling the Spectre and Meltdown protection? I found that it heavily impacts the frame times. It can be done with a tool called InSpectre. Cant wait to see how this impacts your performance in the next video.

I wonder what happened with the RAM? Do the DIMM part numbers suggest it was originally a triple channel kit and one of them has gone missing? I can't remember now to what extent not having the 3rd channel active made a difference to gaming. Back in the day, 3x4GB was the more common config.
Yeah seems as though the third stick was perhaps sold by the builder at some point. Or they bought them as an 8 gig kit
I'm using a EVGA 780 Ti with this build (would have went with a 980 or Titan back when I got this card but this was in 2021 and things were still pretty expensive.
Great video mate, I’m currently running a i7 920 with a gtx 970 and 12gb ram, got the mobo, cpu and ram free from Facebook marketplace during lockdown, and I must say it’s running a absolutely sweet! Would love to attach a picture but it don’t allow me in comments! Great stuff keep it up man 😀
I have an LGA1366 X58 system. Still runs great. You can get more performance with triple channel ram (I have 3 sticks of 4GB) and replacing the i7 950 with an X56XX cpu. I currently use an X5675 which has 6cores and ran me less than $20.
I love CEX 😳
🤨
🧐
Sjeh?
@@the4xgamer765 what? Cex is fun!
@@SunburnOmori I know that I've been there 😉
I hope you and your sister doing great:)
Nice! Thanks for the peek below decks. Surprising how many of these old rigs can still cut the mustard.
I have no idea how they can give 2 years warranty on a 10+ years old system. That's insane!
Yeah really good of them :)
That's just their standard policy
Usually banking on the fact then when it does die people don't claim the warranty, they honour warranty with their in-store credit or they give you a replacement/refund of what they think it's worth at the time of claim (nothing's stopping them from saying it's now only worth £60 after 3 months for example)
Not knocking the warranty as either way no one comes close to it but just highlighting how they may go about it
@@yahyasajid5113 that's not true actually. the warranty covers the original value for the first 6 months and then it defaults to the lowest out of the current value or original value (current value is how much it is sold for at the time)
@@JowoHD You're right, haven't looked at the T&C in a while
Do you know if that 6 month period would include a money refund or in store credit
Allow me to tell you. If you pay cash the ink on the receipt will be unreadable within 12 months. (i buy games from there and put the receipts in the game cases). Most now have faded within 2 years leaving you with no proof of purchase. Maybe, just maybe you will have better look with a debit/credit card. Cex are ok to buy from with certain things. But never sell to them they offer very, very little hoping your in such a dire, desperate situation that you'll take whats on offer. I never sell to these con merchants, id rather sell on facebook.
For an uncomfortably long time, I had someone using an i7 870 with a 3080 since they only had 1k to spend on pc upgrades. It worked better than expected since they exclusively wanted to play games at 4k but man was it the ugliest build on paper.
Haha yeah that would make for a fun video too. Early i7 and 3080
Getting newer CPU might be a hassle to do. Changing motherboard, ram, and cpu itself. Changing GPU is a lot easier since it pull out the old one and plug newer.
@@pahlevymu you have to worry about the power supply too when upgrading a gpu
i went the other way, knowing todays market i shoulda got that 3090 and ran my ivy bridge i7 instead of my i9 10850k/3070 sff build i have now. not that im complaining but with todays knowledge i bet everyone would have jumped on a 3080/3070 or that 2080ti that sold for dirt cheap on ebay lol
These are my favorite sort of videos
Such a wholesome video, it's been awhile since then
I'm waiting for you to cover my mix of awesome old school gaming, I'm still rocking a AMD1100T Black edition from 2011 overclocked to 4.2 GHZ with a GTX1650. Zero issues most games with 60 to 120 fps. Love this channel, keep it up!
I started to see your channel from 3 weeks really cool videos
Amazing work as always mate
I was actually wondering if FSR did help with the stutters and right then he was like "nope it's doesn't". Man I learned so much from RGinHD over the years.. Thanks ❣
6:30 I found out that when you enable the Xbox Game Bar overlay with Win+G, all the stutter is somehow gone. I hope they fix this as it seems to be a bug.
i7 950 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL literally my old 1366 CPU.
Ace! been waiting for a video like this!
I remember good ol' CEX
Still using my i7 990X. Asus Rampage ii Extreme, 16GB RAM, Asus GTX1070 8GB, Samsung SSD. Can't wait to see more of this one Steve! Cheers 👍🍻🍻
1:46 on the right standard hard drive, 1:55 the 2 ram sticks, the first not clipped in rightly, 4:55 ram sticks in correctly, 5:04 the first stick now in correctly and the second not correctly, hard drive is now an SSD, hopefully I scored ok at spot the differences and mistakes, doh!
I've been tinkering with a w3680 x58 lately. 4.0ghz really wakes it up and paired with a Rx 480 makes it a somewhat decent budget Gaming PC. I'd be interested to see how this PC performs with something better than 480
I'm not sure if it'd help much, my one at 4ghz with triple channel ram would still bottleneck my 1050ti and the 1080 just meant it was being wasted
@@mmaayyssoonn8858
The 'unlikely pairing' of PC part vids are interesting for me. I'm *not* saying anyone should have anything better than a Rx 480 for this old system, but it would be cool to watch. If he made a vid, I'd click on it lol
Side note: I have only tested a few games but at 1080p, the Rx 480 is pegged at 100% mostly while the w3680 is sitting around 50%. It's worth mentioning that if rghd makes a vid, maybe he can try 1440 or 4k to help take load off the CPU. That would be awesome
Edit: added a word lol
@@bobbybusche2716 Yeah, most applications I noticed the card wouldn't be fully utilised like in GTA V and the Witcher 3 but I'd always be happy to watch any content that's pushed out on this channel
@Jeffrey Grindle I thought about the x5670 but ended up with the w3680 for a few bucks more bc of the unlocked multi. I've done fsb oc with x3440 in the past with mediocre results
Edit: oh and that's good to know about the 1070. I have one paired with a 10400 and when I upgrade, the 1070 might go to the w3680 then lol
@Jeffrey Grindle I don't mess too much GPU overclock. When I got the 1070, I took off the blower and added an accelero bc I like low noise and good cooling :) as far as flips, I'm having a hard time selling a couple i7 2600/GTX 960 systems for a couple hundred bucks :/ guess around here, market tanked or something
that's a fractal design define r3 white..
Currently my own system is in a define r3 matte black.. brought tears into my eyes.. reminding me of the time when i bought this thing new 11 years ago.. 🤤
I'm still rocking a 4th gen i7 4770 with a GTX 750 ti, probably wouldn't play modern games all that well but plays older ones just fine
What an awesome vintage PC, kudos to that air blower too for being able to push that beefy heatsink
G'day Random,
Just having a cup of tea & a break from making some custom PSU Cables for my niece when I got notified 😁,
All the people going on about needing a NEW GPU or CPU/Mobo Combo because you can't game without them, but there are plenty of games that run well enough to be lots of FUN with older Gen parts like these 🥰, I have a 1st Gen i7 Combo but mine is the i7-870 LGA1156 with a Gigabyte P55A-UD3R, they came with the Mobo Box & all the extras as the person I got them off really looked after them.
Wow, never knew such old hardware could still be relevant today. Cool video mate.
Yeah cpus age well especially the old i7s... GPU's? Lol noooo
Yeah cpus age well especially the old i7s... GPU's? Lol noooo
That combo did surprisingly well lol
4:00 ive found a soft bristle toothbrush that has had a "haircut" works quite well for fans with stubborn dust and grot.
That board brings back memories. X5670 was a beast
That's my old mobo and had a great time overclocking my X5670 before it suddenly died. Loved it!
Great vid mate. Interested in the next one on this build. oc cpu + more ram etc.
Result!
Fractal Case the best! Still have it after all these years. Quality and features were top notch with those.
The fact that a 13 year old CPU is still usable at all for modern workloads is kind of amazing.
Love the fractal R5 silent case.
No joke, that's a nice chassis, you can see the build quality in the paneling
Running a xeon x3470 plus 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 950, (upgrading soon to a rx 580 hopefully) still getting pretty decent performance with most games running high to medium at 1440 x 900 resolution... well see with if the cpu becomes a bottleneck at 1080p with the rx. 🤷♂️ Love your vids man!
Bloody hell, look at the weather you got for that unboxing though!
Great pc
Look forward for cpu overclocking video
My second pc contains a 1st generation i7 870, as well as a gtx 680 that I found in an e-waste bin. as the 680 is the 4gb model, it's actually quite capable even today.
I wonder if you sold this PC already and what modifications you applied
As a respected RUclipsr, it is your duty, nay, privilege, to xeon it up! Since it's a Gigabyte board, I wouldn't count on ecc memory too much, but Xeon must work
Damn... I really missed that kind of chassis with tons of HDD slots.
I am still using a lot of HDD and finding this kind of chassis is no longer easy.
Imagine the original Pentium (1993) being able to play games from 2006. PCs really matured a lot 🙂
That I7 is holding up quite well it seems!
I am currently using a generation older, a Core2 Quad Q8400 with 6gb DDR2. It is doing okay as well.
Love the core 2 quads!
@@RandomGaminginHD It is also overclocked, and has a RTX 3060, and USB 3.0, to make it a pretty epic computer from that age.
2022 for me and still rocking an i7-960, and proud of it.
i like having CEX
Rx 6500 xt on pci 2.0 would be interesting to see.
I know a guy who took his family's old PC and threw in a 1080 ti. It's also using an i7-950.
I'm curious how much of a bottleneck it is.
Also for the best performance disable specter and meltdown. that's typically a 5 to 10% boost to performance.
With a faster GPU probably even more
somebody built a super nice computer back in 2011.
i bet they would be happy to see it still going :D
God I just love the look of the old MBs, this mix of creamy white and blue, especially on Gigabyte boards, so good, not like the modern all black or "red means gaming" MBs.
I used a X58 with an i7 940 for the longest time I only retired it a couple years ago. Maxed out all 6 slots with 32gb ram and paired it with a rx 580 and it played every game without a hiccup. Unfortunately the lack of any AVX instructions is why I had to finally give up on lga 1366.
OH, that looks like a sweet pc even for today's standars. My Q9650 sends regards 😄😁
The cyberpunk stutter are for the Vram using the slower section. Only 1.5GB is actually useful.
I like how the SSD is labeled "MAIN DRIVE." Very creative.
I am still sporting my X58 combo with an i7 980X (6 Core, 12 Threads) @4.4 12GB DDR 1600 as well as an overclocked 1080...also, I am using SSDs which are put into PCIE 4x slots using an adapter, since my motherboard has 3 PCIE 16X slots...these ssds are 4 times as fast as the normal ones connected via SATA, which is stone age SATA, I don't even know which generation is on my board...kickass system, running everything in 1080p with ultra or high...Witcher 3 even in 1440p with ultra...I really love my old but gold gaming PC and don't plan on upgrading it anytime soon...
usually those x58 board uses sata 2... although there are some variant with extra sata 3 controller connected with pcie
The feels ... you can see the system and the mods I did on the case on the techpowerup mod gallery (techpowerup com slash gallery slash 2246 slash details).
as always love the videos and keep up the good work
I ran this PC's motherboard with a xeon W3690 for years, awesome board and CPU for their age
I am using an i7 920 CPU on an ASUS P6T Deluxe v2 motherboard with an ASUS GTX 780 ti and 16GB RAM right now! It runs flawlessly! I just bought a Xeon X5670 for $9 to replace the i7 920, but I am still somewhat reluctant because the board requires a BIOS update first which makes me nervous as I have no spare chip or a chip programmer yet.
I never knew CEX had a 24-month warranty on second hand goods, and I've been using that store for as long as I can remember to buy and sell.
I agree with others about using triple channel memory. Definitely a better graphics card too but don't overdo it.
I have a pc with an i7-860 and a gtx-650ti boost. It runs valorant, rocket league, and Fortnite really well. I’m a teacher I took it to school. If kids forget their issued computer, I let them use it. Then occasionally, I can open the games up and let the kids play. It’s a great little computer for kids just getting into gaming.
I used to own an Enermax PSU. It ran solidly for years and I remember it is a good brand for PSU's.
