  • Today I review the 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X and discuss the exterior, interior features and amenities, pricing, safety, off-road capabilities and specifications, towing, payload, truck bed, packages, ride quality, performance, and reliability. I also compare it to the Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, and Ford Ranger. Would you pick the all-new Frontier over the aging competition?

    Just picked up a 2023 Pro4x Premium in glacier white yesterday for $3300 below sticker. Never owned a white vehicle before and I'm a little nervous about how it will age, but it looks fantastic all cleaned up and new. Also, I think this truck has the most comfortable seat I've experienced in many years. The driver's seat could do with a few more adjustments, but I can't say my driving position is awkward in any way. I must be the body type they designed it around because it felt great to me the very first time I sat in it. I could easily log 2-3 hours in the driver's seat of this truck before needing a stretch and I have quite severe spinal stenosis. Overall, I love this truck. It's really well thought out and is very well built. The door slams on this truck sound like a vault. It's tight! Even though $45k is insane for a midsize truck, this is the best value in the segment, in m y opinion.

    I test drove one today, and a Tacoma TRD Pro last week. My takeaway is the main difference between the two is comfort. For a mid-size truck with a solid axle, Nissan really did engineer this truck with great on-road manners. The 3.8L V6 also feels incredibly punchy I thought, it felt like a V8.
    Overall was quite impressed but I would honestly prefer an SUV. Nissan would take my money if they just revived the Xterra and base it off the Frontier, honestly.

    • @SchwayZ
      @SchwayZ  Год назад +4

      Agreed. Very composed truck. And yeah i think the xterra is a missed opportunity right now with how in-demand these types of suvs are nowadays.

      There was talk of the Xterra coming back in 2024. You know how those kind of things go though, but like you many many others have stated that's what they really want so who knows.

    • @HotSneks
      @HotSneks Год назад

      @@JohnnyRebLa Yeah I heard that rumor circulating around and some believe it to be true. I really wish it were though, Nissan would be wise to have a piece of the pie from the current SUV trend, and the fact that a new generation of 4Runners is on the horizon it would make sense to shake up the market with some competition.
      What's funny is the Nissan Terra is an SUV based off the Navara, and it's called the Xterra in the middle east. It's a Body-on-frame SUV with the option for a rear diff lock.

I think it would see remarkably well as some people would like to use the Pro 4x like a normal truck and haul firewood and bags of wood pellets for my pellet burner along with numerous trips for soil for my huge garden and mulch for my landscape. One of the best reviews I've heard. The 4 wheel drive system exceeds my needs which is my hunting club roads in the Alabama backroads. 80 percent of my driving is on road of which I find the Nissan superior in it's class. Have you tried lowering the seat just a little to eliminate the head bump? I did it and eliminated it completely. I find the hydraulic steering more truck like and it has less driver fatigue on longer trips. Mine has just over 5k on it and the steering has broken in quiet nicely. Thanks for a great review.

      @@joemarchand8313 That's one place where Nissan dropped the ball. Many ot the features on the Pro4 either isn't offered on the SV or so expensive it pays to buy aftermarket. The best buy for features and ride quality goes to the Pro 4x. The Bilstein shocks work very and the wheel/tire combination looks a lot better. I wanted a fully loaded Pro 4X so I could get some of the package combinations.. For instance I wanted leather seats and you get that and a sunroof in the luxury package. I would have just waited and ordered one but my 2018 Nissan got totaled in an accident and had to be replaced. I leased mine because of this. It was a first year model So dollar for dollar IMO the Pro 4x is the better buy. I don't drive many miles and hopefully by the time the lease is up I can get the

    Im going to test drive one today. When you made this video the taco was the 3rd gen. The 4th gen is out now. You know this, im sure . It drives way better than the 3rd gen, which i had. However, i felt every bump in the road in my seat. Front end handled better tho. Get up and go was 10x better than the 3rd gen. My issue is this, the turbo. I think turbos have come a long way. They can last longer and are built better than years of the past. Engineering now understands heat is the killer and making things cool is key to long-term reliability. However, i want something simple. Less to Break. Less to maintenance. I still think naturally aspirated still lasts longer in the correct build than turbos.i love turbos. I don't want the head aches. Plus nissan has deals that are hard to pass. I might get this pro 4x for 3k under msrp. And lease it for $474 a month. Then buy it at the end of the term in 3 yr for 31k. I picked this route for monthly costs. If it rides smooth, im leaving with it today as a lease. Buying it at the end of my lease.

    2023 Pro 4X with 21k miles, lots of off-road miles on gravel roads, I don't recommend this truck to anyone.

      Why not? Recalls? Unreliable?

      Fuel door broke, Had to replace a EVAP System, Cable from rear differential broke had to replace, a sensor that reads the key fob is in the vehicle so you can drive the vehicle broke, left me stranded, the round body panels collect rocks so bad even with oversized mud flaps has caused the paint to chip off completely! Small gas tank with a very thirsty motor. Truck is squirrely on the highway. Constantly down shifting to a crazy high RPM with the cruise control on. I dislike driving this truck.

    Very disappointed that Nissan has not put its best tech and updated features in its top of the line midsized Frontier Pro-4X, they are still using hydraulic steering with an abismal turning radious, Come on Nissan, no lane keep assist, tight cramped and loud cabin , it is like they are throwing scraps at this outdated design on purpose, is Nissan going to discontinue and abandon the Frontier like they just did the Titan? Nissan is not even trying to keep up with the rest of the ever changing midsize market, if you drift too far behind you will eventually get left behind.

      You must have driven a different truck. Super quiet cabin, excellent 9 speed transmission. This thing is smooth and has good power. I doubt you even drove this triuck.
