EXPLORING THE CATHEDRAL VALLEY LOOP AT CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK WITH OUR TOYOTA 4RUNNER

- The Cathedral Valley Loop at Capitol Reef National Park in Utah is an awesome scenic drive that takes you into some very remote and rugged parts of the national park. We spent the entire day exploring the back roads of the Cathedral Valley Loop in our Toyota 4Runner. The 57.6 mile loop takes you off the paved roads and into some of the far removed northern sections of Capitol Reef National Park. Along the drive you will see the Bentonite Hills, the Lower South Desert Overlook, the Upper South Desert Overlook, the Cathedral Valley Campground, Gypsum Sinkhole, The Temple of the Sun and The Temple of the Moon and the amazing sandstone monoliths of Cathedral Valley. Cathedral Valley was named for its visual similarities to Gothic style cathedrals. Beware as there are no paved roads on this loop and the sand can get extremely thick and deep, so you absolutely must have a high clearance vehicle and a 4X4 is strongly recommended. The Cathedral Valley Loop Road is a great way to see the remote northern part of Capitol Reef National Park that is rarely visited by tourists.
This is the seventh video in the series of our summer 2020 road trip adventures.

This is Capital Reef National Park in Utah. Utah has a lot of this amazing red and orange sandstone in the southern part of the state. It is always one of our favorite places to explore. Thanks!
Very cool place...and most definitely need to be prepared for a journey as such. You folks sound like a fun couple. Binging your vids as I get my seeds started indoors.
Capitol Reef is one of our favorite parks to visit. But you have to be prepared when you go on this back country road, because there are very few people on it. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it.

I hope that you can see them someday! Have a great weekend.
Looks like you and your 4Runner had fun! This is one of many national parks I hope to visit in the US some year. Well done, my friend 👍. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend 😀.
This is one of our favorite national parks. Utah has some very impressive scenery. Traveling the back roads with our 4Runner or Ford Ranger is always one of our favorite things to do. I hope you have a great weekend!
I am planning a bikepacking trip there. It is so great to see your video documenting the landscape and road surface condition. It gives me a much better idea what to expect. Thanks.
Capitol Reef National Park is one of our favorites. With a bike, the only issue that you may have is with crossing the Fremont River, on the west entrance to the Cathedral Valley Loop. Check in with the park office as to the height of the river level, before you cross it. There is a campground with about 6 sites, halfway through the loop. It has picnic tables, fire rings and pit toilets. Have fun!!!
Beautiful and wonderful scenery, full watched as always.
I appreciate that. Thank you!
Friends, such an absolutely amazing drive! Lovely view and great nature! I liked watching - thanks for sharing! Welcome to my new video! See you!

Capitol Reef, definitely one of the best if not the best spot in Utah. Thanks for sharing off-road tour. We chose a highway road 24 from Moab to Capitol Reef. A must see & drive if you like this kind of nature.
We completely agree! We have been on highway 24 a few times between Moab and Capitol Reef. That is a beautiful road with some awesome Utah scenery. We have a couple of other videos on Capitol Reef that you might like. It really is an amazing park. Thanks so much for watching!

We've done the Cathedral Valley Loop trail twice and have really enjoyed it both times. You see just a few vehicles while on the loop. Nice to know of the Minnesota connection! :-)

Thank you so much! 😊
amazing National Park how I want to visit sometime
You should! It is one of my favorite national parks!
Yes, great video. I did this all by myself with my blazer long long ago. Nice video and nice to revisit it
Thank you! We have done this trail twice and both times only came across a handful of other people during the 5-6 hours we were out on the trail. I am impressed that you went out on it by yourself. It is a beautiful trail.
Yes you’re welcome. I just would take off on roads. Have you done long canyon and pucker pass and Schafer trail down to potash road, near Moab? I even drove for a while on the white rim road. I just loved my solitary 4 wheel drive trips
@@graciegardener That is so funny that you asked about Schafter Trail to Potash Road. We just did that drive on July 10th and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am not familiar with Long Canyon and pucker Pass - I will need research that and check it out. Thanks for the suggestion!
Another amazing video 🤩many thanks for your efforts keep posting more videos ı really enjoy watching them wıth my warm greeting 😇💞

Thank you very much! It is a lot of fun spending the day on the Cathedral Valley Loop.
I passed the entrance sign, knew I couldn't do it in a rental sedan. This is great!
No you probably wouldn't want to attempt this in a rental sedan! LOL. The sand is very thick in places. I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching!

Views are so fantastic! The more I see your videos the more I want to visit US some day... I guess it's not easy to drive on such roads...
This is one of my favorite National Parks to visit. And if you drive the Cathedral Valley loop, it take about 6 hours and you might see just 2 or 3 other cars along the drive. It is remote, but also very interesting. Thanks!
@@blendedtravels O, I love wild places with no other cars on the roads! That's so cool!
Beautiful video. You new subscriber from IRAN👌
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching.
The cathedral valley loop, looks wonderful. Great adventure. The Toyota 4Runner took it in it's stride. Always difficult to show how steep and bad the roads are.
p.s. I would not stand to close to the sink hole, would not want to fall in.
LOL. You are right, I probably should not have stood so close to the edge. The Cathedral Valley Loop at Capitol Reef is a lot of fun. We have done the loop twice and really enjoyed it both times.
nice video

Really like this video. I’m planning a March-April 2022 Utah trip and I’m intrigued with the loop, but perhaps not spending the day to do the entire loop. At 3:38 of the video is the Lower South Desert Overlook. Can you estimate the distance from when you first crossed the Fremont River to this point? Also, how far to the campground, and then the Cathedral Valley Dome? Thanks. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Glad I came across this one.
Hello. We have done this loop twice and both times it took approximately 6 hours, but we stopped at several places along the way. From the Freemont River to the Lower South Desert Overlook, it is probably about 16 miles and takes about 1 1/2 hours. The campground is about another 12 miles past the overlook. Then the Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon are probably another 15 miles past the campground. Check at the Visitors Center for the level of the Freemont River before you cross, as it might be higher in the spring. There are also sections of the road that can have really deep sand, so have good tires and 4 wheel drive. It is a lot of fun, but make sure you have some water and food with you, as not many people travel the loop and you want to be prepared, just in case you run into an issue. Have fun!
@@blendedtravels Thanks. Great information. Looks fun.
The Cathedral Valley that I haven’t been to Bentonite Hills a Month ago is fantastic ~Thank you for watching the Video
Thank you so much for watching! Capitol Reef is one of my favorite National Parks. We have explored the Cathedral Valley Loop a couple of times.
I am wondering if you have any sort of lift on your 4Runner? I want to do this road and I have a Jeep with good mud tires but no lift. Just standard ground clearance. Thank you! Fun video.
Hello! We do not have a lift on the 4Runner. If your Jeep is in good condition with good tires, you should be able to do this trail without issues. A couple of things we would recommend is to do the river crossing first. You can check at the Visitor Center to see what the river level is and if they think you would have any issues with the crossing. Also you should air down your tires. There is a portion of the trail that is fairly rocky and another couple of sections that had thicker sand the last time we did this. We had done this trail twice and both times we only saw a couple of other vehicles the entire day, so make sure that you have some water and food with you, in case you run into an issue. Most of all, have fun!! Thanks so much for watching.
What a great video! Just curious, did you need to switch gears on the 4Runner when driving through the Fremont River?
Thank you so much!! Yes it was in 4WD to cross the river and get up the bank on the opposite side. Then at one other point we had to put it in 4WD due to the very deep sand (later in the video). Thanks for watching!
@@blendedtravels thanks so much!
Great video except for the winnoise they make this really cool thing called a windsock it's like 50 bucks it makes your videos worth watching
Yes I agree and we have one now. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for watching!
a very arid area if the car breaks down and there is no water supply it would be very inconvenient
That is very true. When we drive back in some of these areas, we always make sure that we have plenty of food and water with us, in the event that we have an issue.
You adventure landing mountain
Thank you so much my friend. Yes it was an adventure!
Beautiful! The valleys and national parks are so cool!
This place is awesome! Probably one of my favorite national parks because of the remoteness.
