The historic Gold Eye Mine can be found southwest of Quartzsite Arizona. The original miner was a gentleman named Lehre Erdman, who spent 63 years at the mine. He was born in 1909 and passed away in 1996. Lehre Erdman also built a stone cabin nearby in the 1940’s. The Gold Eye Mine is located near the Dome Rock BLM camping area.
Quartzsite Arizona can trace its history back to 1856, when Charles Tyson built a fort at the site, which became a stagecoach stop named Tyson Wells. The stop became a ghost town after the stagecoach stopped running, but then in 1897 a small mining boom revitalized the town, and the town’s name was changed to Quartzsite.
