GHOST TOWN in the BLACK HILLS: ABANDONED SPOKANE SOUTH DAKOTA MINING TOWN
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 фев 2025
- Spokane, South Dakota is a ghost town in the Black Hills. Only a few buildings remain, some rusted old cars, and a root cellar, from days gone by. Spokane is one of the few remaining intact ghost towns of the Black Hills, however nature is rapidly reclaiming this area.
Spokane, South Dakota was founded in 1890 and was originally intended to be a gold mining town. Instead, miners found silver, lead, zinc, mica, and other minerals. The best year for the mine in the Black Hills was 1927, when profits totaled over $144,000. However, by the late 1930’s, the mine began to fail and closed in 1940. In the 1950’s a few companies tried unsuccessfully to reopen the mine. A watchman remained at the town site, until the mid 1980’s.
The remains of Spokane, South Dakota are just north of Custer State Park’s northern boundary, near the junction of Iron Mountain Road and North Playhouse Road. It is an easy 5 to 10 minute walk back into the site. It is a fun place to explore, in the Black Hills.

This is really cool. I had no idea about this spot. I enjoyed the look around. It seemed so peaceful. The old cars are cool. Interesting history 😊
We just discovered the last time we were in the Black Hills. It was a fun place to explore, just off of Iron Mountain Road. I thought the old cars were really neat as well. I hope you are having a great week!
This is one of my favorite ghost towns. I am glad to hear they have that building fenced off. It wasn't last time I was there.
It was a fun place to explore. I like how it is a bit hidden and you have to walk back in to find it. I don't know how much longer that building will be standing, as it seems to have really started to fall apart due to the rain, snow and wind in the Black Hills. Hopefully it lasts a while longer.
Hello from Naples, Florida. A neat place to explore, for sure. We enjoyed. Thanks for sharing the amazing views with us, have a great week 👍 💯 ❤
Thanks for watching. I hope you are having a great week as well.
Bonito lugar 🌳✋, deixando o 👍💚, vamos nos conectar 🤝 💞. Ótima caminhada 🌿 🌳👌.

Have a pleasant Wednesday, my Friend 🥰
See you again and many thanks ~
Thanks! Have a great weekend.
Waw ini bangunan yang sudah lama tidak dihuni sungguh sangat disayangkan perlu renovasi ulang agar kembali indah
Thank you!
So interesting place. The rotting wooden houses and broken cars that look like they might collapse at any moment are very impressive.
Thanks for wonderful sharing my friend 😊👍
It was a very fun place to explore. Thanks for watching!
It's amazing how the work dried up and people just abandoned everything to the elements. A nice little find. Thanks for sharing Anita.
It was a fun place to explore. Have a great weekend Chris!
Very nice video! Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you! I always appreciate you watching.
Great history and hiking video. I'm amazed some of those old buildings are still standing. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I was pretty amazed by that too. Wood buildings here don't usually last that long, because the rain and snow decay them faster. I hope you are having a great week!
Hello my dear friend very beautiful video keep it up thanks for the sharing 👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🎁
Thank you for watching!
Hello my new friend. Amazing views of the buildings, I enjoyed watching it. Very nice sharing. L61. 😍😍😍

This is look like abandoned town, the former developed mining land in spokane south dakota is still visible, we love watching old memory videos. thanks for filming.
It was a fun place to explore. Thanks!
This is fascinating. We love checking out old abandoned ghost towns when we get a chance. It is crazy that people just left old cars and appliances out there to rust away. It is interesting to see how nature reclaims areas like this. Thanks for taking us along to see it!
Thanks! I hope you are both having a great week.
Một khám phá thú vị, nơi đây khá bình yên nhưng con người đã phải bỏ hoang

I love exploring these old ghost towns. Amazing views of the buildings, cars and equipment. Absolutely a wonderful place to explore. Also, the forest was very beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us.
We love exploring ghost towns as well. Unfortunately they don't last as long in this part of the country. The rain and snow can decay the wood pretty quickly. I really liked the old cars as well. Thanks so much for watching. I always love hearing from you.
How eerie yet so beautiful! To think it’s just sitting there forgotten by time. Those cars, wow. So creepy and haunting to see inside the old structures. Incredible to explore. You captured an amazing find. Thanks for sharing with us! 😊💕
Thanks! It was a fun place to visit in the Black Hills. I loved seeing those old cars. I hope you are having a great week!
I appreciate your tour showing what remains of the old mining town. So interesting to learn what was mined there. 👍😊🇨🇦
I was a fun place to poke around in, during our visit to the Black Hills. I am afraid that old house won't be standing too much longer.
Thanks for the interesting exploration 👍
It was a fun place to explore. Thanks!

Hi Anita this was very different but most enjoyable! Great find! The animals have definitely had their way with the inside of the car! Have a fab weekend ❤
Thanks! I probably have driven past the little parking area for this ghost town 5 times and never knew it was there. I wish I would have found it a few years back when more of the buildings were still standing. But it was a fun place to explore none the less. I hope you are both doing fantastic!
Keep up the interesting content

Thanks! I hope you are having a happy day as well.
What a cool looking ghost town ...those cars looked like they were probably from the 1950's or so...shame just left like that...so many of those little towns all over USA left to rot...what a shame...thanks for sharing some of the history with us today!
Yes they were 1954 Fords. I thought they were pretty cool. I hope you had a wonderful 4th!

he Video is great. Beautiful video. The Showing place and Story is also good. Thank you sharing wonderful video. Have a nice day.
Thank you so much!
What a neat find, Anita. I must have been right close by many times, but have never noticed the trail back to it. Would love to explore and we loved coming along with you. The ticks? We have enough of those here! I have no idea what kind of cars they were but the 40's or even 50's sounds right. Loved the explore.
I thought for sure we were going to have at least a couple of ticks crawling on us, but neither one of us had one! I found out the cars were 1954 Fords. I thought they were pretty cool. I even found out my Dad had one back in the day. I think we have probably driven past this about 5 times in the past and didn't know it was there. Glad we found it now! I hope you had a great weekend.
Wonderful! Fun to explore. I wonder if my house will eventually look like that - lol. Well done, my friend 👍. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day 😀.
Nature is definitely reclaiming that house. Ha ha. It was a fun little place to explore in the Black Hills. Thanks and have a great weekend!
Boom and bust town of old Spokane SD is fun to explore
Don't know the kind of cars but probably late 40s early 50s
Enjoyed the exploration
Thanks and wish you all the best

Always happy to spend time with your exciting adventures. This Ghost Town in the Black Hills also makes me curious. The green expanse is so refreshing to the eyes. A mining town with old buildings that were just abandoned. Everything is not well maintained, like a ghost town. Thank you for bringing me along on your exciting exploration.
It was a very interesting place to explore. Thank you so much for watching!

Seeing all these abandoned houses is scary, but the surroundings look nice. Thanks for sharing - All the best.
It was a fun place to explore. Thanks!
Yay! Another Black Hills video. We love it there. We haven't been here yet. Pretty cool Ghost Town and interesting history about it. Hope you didn't find any ticks on you. We hate ticks! Yuck! Those old cars were cool. Thanks for sharing! We'll have to check this out sometime.
We love the Black Hills too. This was a fun stop just off of Iron Mountain Road. Not too much left of the buildings, but I thought the cars were very cool. I hope you are having a great week!
It was fascinating seeing all the decaying buildings with the beautiful green grass. This was a great tour and hopefully you didn't find any ticks afterwards!
I am happy to report that neither one of us had any ticks! It was a fun place to explore.

Thanks for the great video...full watch for you and have a great day 😊
Thanks! It was really fun exploring this old Ghost Town in the Black Hills.
It's definitely a very impressive coverage on this abandoned town once renowned for mining !! Greetings from India.
I am glad you liked it. Thanks!
Really interesting history of mining in the area. The old buildings are hanging in there… the trees are moving in on them though. Steve took a look and guesses the two cars are from the 1950s. I would have no idea about them either. I bet they’ve made a nice home for generations of mice and other critters! Enjoyed the exploring! - Jen 😄👍👍
Yes they probably have made a great home for lots of mice and squirrels! Yes the cars are 1954 Fords. I thought they were pretty cool. I hope you had a great 4th!
cool & nice sharing
Thank you!
amazing place, so cool abandoned town
It was a fun place to explore. Thanks!
Great video! Well done!
Thank you so much!
Yes, time is merciless, but once upon a time people lived there and they had work! But alas, now only ruins remain! It was very interesting to visit this abandoned city!❤️👍
I always wonder what life was like for the people that used to live here. It was an interesting place to visit. I hope you are having a wonderful week!
@@blendedtravelsYes. This is very interesting! There is also a similar place not far from us. Peat was mined there in the thirties of the last century, but over time it became unnecessary and people were forced to leave this place. And there, too, there were abandoned houses with history! Although now it’s all overgrown and crumbling! And for some reason this place was called "Russian America". Maybe there is something about this place on the Internet.
Wow, this is a very interesting video. Thank you for all the information 😊
Thank you for watching!
Wow great ghost town tour.
Thanks for posting ❤
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.

Thanks! I hope you are having a great day.
Lovely cinematography and narration. The ticks are no joke. The old cars are so cool but I don’t know what they are without googling serial or part numbers. Cool place! Take care
Surprisingly we had no ticks after walking through all of that long grass. I thought for sure I would at least have a couple. It was a really neat place to explore. I found out the cars were 1954 Ford's. I figured someone would know who was watching. Thanks and take care!
Nice trail to walk pretty woodland. Cool looking miners' houses and old car shame there left to decay. It would make a good weekend retreat. Thanks for sharing with us Blendedtravels 😊 👍
Thanks! I hope you had a great weekend.
@blendedtravels Been OK thanks hope you have had a good weekend too 😀 👍
It was a great video, thank you❤
Thanks so much for watching!
Great explore of a past relic. I've not a clue what make or model those old cars are but they looked cool just sat there. Nature seems to be taking it all back. Tho there must be still some metal and minerals to be mined if people have tried firing it back up since closure in the 1940s 🙂
I found out the cars were 1954 Fords. I thought they were pretty cool. There definitely are still minerals to be found in the area. It was a fun place to explore. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for sharing have a fantastic time
Thank you!
Totally missed the notification on this one Anita, sorry I'm late. Such a brilliant captivating place, we love old places like this. It was a stunning location and nice to see the remaining buildings being took over by nature and atmospheric old cars just laying there in this ghost village. No idea what cars they were but the animals must have loved them 😃That was really interesting to see and think about all what went on here all those years ago 👍~ Anna
Hi Anna! This was a fun place to explore and I found out that the cars were 1954 Fords. I agree that the animals of the forest seemed to love them. I hope you and Alf are doing well. We are off to Colorado later today for a road trip. I am looking forward to that. Take care!
@@blendedtravels Ah so so nice that you are off to Colorado, safe travels 🙏I'll look forward to the videos 🙂 Yes we are all well here thank you and hope you are too :)

Ghost town in the black hills. Tempatnya menyeramkan, terbengkalai. Ada mobil rongsokan juga, tapi pemandangan yang sangat indah, masyaallah
It was an interesting place to explore. Thank you so much!
Good vidography and excellent narration as usual. Frozen in time. I bet the ticks are everywhere in that tall grass. Comes with the territory I guess. Thanks for sharing.
Oddly enough, we didn't get any ticks that day. It was such a fun spot to explore. Thanks so much for watching!
Wow! That's right! it looks like ghosts will live in old houses where people left! The mine has been abandoned! Thank you for sharing the right video for the hot summer! Hello! Greetings again from 100tour KOREA! Stay in touch, my dear friend! See you again! Have a wonderful weekend!
