Paul- this is gonna sound wild, but a number of years ago your pc build videos reached me at the absolute low of my life. I was on some incredibly hard times , and I couldn't find enjoyment in anything and felt like giving up on myself every single day. It was miserable. However, one thing that brought me a hint of joy was learning how computers worked and I mustered up the energy one day to peel myself off the floor I'd been living on and decided I was going to try and build one. I found yours and Gamers Nexus' channel and watched your build videos countless times to make sure I got everything absolutely right. The joy I felt when I pressed the power button and the frankenstein I concocted with aftermarket parts turned on was the most I had felt in a very long time. It kicked off an absolute addiction to building PCs and even give livestreaming a try a few years later. Now I do the gaming streamer thing for a living full-time, and am in an immensly better place in life. It was a hell of a lot of work on my own but I wanted you to know that you were one of the brightly burning sparks that got the fire within me ignited again, and this comment is to say thank you. Bro you are speaking to my soul for current life place, not quite out of my hole yet but been fighting for 3 years and won't give up. Content like Pauls, GN, JTC, Dawid Does Tech Stuff got me up to do a build in Nov, it's giving me things to do. Have been thinking about doing game clip vids or streaming in game lives just for fun, keep the wheels turning / treading the water, ya know? @@mukkah I have been there too and agree with the term 'hole'; I'd heard so many third parties talking about depressed people being in a dark tunnel trying to get to that light at the end but I felt, as you obviously did, that I was down a deep hole and couldn't find a way to even start climbing out. You can walk out of a tunnel but you can't climb out of a hole without purchase points, and you need to find that first mental purchase point, grab it and keep going. It seems you have found that and are slowly climbing your way out. The fact that you are still climbing is testament to your fortitude. Keep going and make yourself proud - there is nothing wrong with that - and talking makes such a difference.
@@Chewiebakke Bro, "first mental purchase point", that's a good analogy. I used to focused on the end goal, getting better, getting back to who I used to be, that really held me back. It feels like taking the small steps and gains, and adding those up, is what helps. Even if the gains build up a bit then get washed away, they help stem the tide. To anyone else reading, just keep trying. Not saying it'll work, but it's something, sometimes that's better than nothing.
I have to say a big thank you. I have not built a PC for maybe two decades when we moved from Windows 95 to Windows XP, yeap!, I'm that old. I watched your build series and just built an i9 13k, RTX4090 with an AIO. Even took off the thermal paste on AIO, cleaned and applied good quality thermal paste to i9. Before watching your channel I would not have been able to even think about doing this. Assembled in one evening, posted first time, then with this last part was able to get Windows 11pro installed and all up and running. You sir, are a subject matter expert and an inspiration to us all, I wanted to say a big thank you for all your hard work and let you know that we minions out here appreciate your time and effort. To put it frankly, I would not have a running PC if it was not for your channel
I watched all first 3 parts before i bought all the parts for my $4000 build, then i watched them once again as i follow through to finish the build. Now, time to watch this one and finish up the settings/OS, i'm just so excited and thankful for this series.
Great video series. Walked a first time builder through the whole way from not knowing anything about whats inside a computer to buying all the parts, putting it all together, setting up, and then making sure everything works. ❤❤❤
Say what you want about Paul’s Hardware but this guy shows you the absolute cleanest way to set up your PC after you’ve built it over any other builder I’ve seen on the internet. He is only interested in installing windows and the absolute bare minimum apps required to run it safely. He shows you how to bypass all spyware and bloatware that they try to get you to install. I’ve been watching videos and doing research almost every day for over 2 months on building a pc and while this information is available in text form on various forums, this guy shows it to you in one easy video straight away. You can just tell he’s got experience in the field. Good stuff if you’re building a windows PC

I am probably 25years since my last PC (having gone that laptop, console circle), but doing a new build with my son this weekend…. Staggered by how much everything has evolved… (2 TB ssd just arrived… yikes… how frikkin tiny it is… no more 75MB hdd grind & clunk??)… Your how-to’s have been a great help teaching this old dog!! I also really appreciate your easy manner & delivery, really helps with my understanding of how it all works.
I've been in corporate IT a loooong time building machines, but I still get ecstatic watching Paul build. Knowledge, craftsmanship, enthusiasm.. and most importantly, I know damn well he has a chilled beer close by even though it's not on screen.

Big one! Go to accessibility settings, visual effects and disable 'Transparency effects'. Optional also disable 'Animation effects'. Transparency takes valuable GPU resources, disabling animations makes your PC feel much more snappy. Can also do something similar on an aging Android in dev mode, turn animation speeds to 0x

Man I waited MONTHS for this video to come out. I couldn't wait any longer and went ahead and built my new rig and actually made it through the setup and transferring data and windows onto the new computer. I had issues for a few days with blue screens and crashing and couldn't figure out why. Finally determined it was an XMP presetting in my BIOS that was juicing the RAM up too much causing instability. Glad I made it through in the end. Had to figure things out the hard way, but made it and have been gaming on this beauty for about a month now. Still stoked you released this video! Will be watching intently to see some things I likely could have avoided :)

I currently have a Dell G7 laptop with a RTX 2060, this has been my entry in the PC gaming verse for the last few years. I am not in anyway computer savvy but have come to enjoy PC gaming and have been toying with purchasing a Gaming desktop. I have looked at plug and play, create your own and have someone build it until I came across your channel. I have watch all 4 parts and this has to be one of the most complete and simplified how to builds I have viewed. I just went thru the list of items for this build and except for a couple of upgraded items I stayed right about a 1k which I have ordered. I am excited to get going on this build thanks to your channel and this series.
About running that command to enable offline installation - if we download the ISO file from MS, i.e. the 3rd option on MS website instead of the 2nd, and use Rufus to burn the ISO to a USB stick, Rufus provides the option to disable MS account, so we can get the option of offline installation right away without opening command prompt. Rufus also has the option to create a user as per the current system.

I have been building my own PCs since I first built a Pentium 233 with my brother when I was in middle school (and incidentally fried the motherboard because we thought we had to have all of the standoffs in the case, even the ones that didn't align with board holes). In all that time, I never learned what BIOS means. Thank you, Paul!
Excitingly waiting for commercials to end to see if I did things correctly. Son and I worked it out a while back using other folks. Thank you for all you do, Paul. We built the system found in episode 3. Did I do it right? It works! One thing I learned, and was quite worried about as it was my first AIO build, make sure you tell the BIOS about the AIO.
Glad you got your system going! I had quite a few people asking me about part 4, I know I took way longer than I intended to get it completed. Those AIO/Pump headers on newer boards are quite helpful for AIO installation, but yeah it's a good idea to make sure your mobo isn't trying to run your AIO pump on "silent" mode or anything 😅

@@DarkReturns1 Its in the "Smart Fan" area, where you set the Fan and Pump Speeds. Basically all you want to do is first check to see which fan header on your motherboard you plugged your AIO into, and then when booting into the BIOS (To Get into the BIOS/UEFI Simply Mash the "Del" key as soon as you turn on the PC until you end up in the BIOS), Then if you see "Easy Mode" at the Top left of the screen, hit "F2" so that you are switched to "Advanced, then You should be on the "M.I.T." Menu, and the bottom Option on that page should say "Smart Fan 5 Settings" choose that. Then at the top of the screen next to the Word "Monitor" will be a drop down menu, it will be on "CPU" by default, click CPU so that it opens the Drop down menu, and choose the header that you plugged your AIO Into. You could have plugged your AIO Into any header, the only difference with the ones labeled PUMP is that they sometimes support more AMPS and usually are set to full by default, but that is not always the case. Either way, your AIO will work no matter what Fan header you plugged into, all you want to do is pick that correct header on this screen, and then Drag all of the Dots up to the top of the graph so they are all at 100%. Its possible that will make the pump too loud for your taste, if thats the case, you can go as low as around 70%, but because AIO Pumps are not the most powerful pumps you generally want them to run as fast as possible to keep your cooling as good as possible. Just make sure that you set all the Dots to somewhere between 70 and 100%, then hit 'F10" on the keyboard to save and exit, and from now on your Pump will run at the speed you set. You are also welcome to set any of the Fans on the other fan headers to a curve of your choosing to make them quieter or to make the curve more aggressive based on your tastes. I hope that helps. Another good thing to do is go into scheduler and make sure everything is scheduled to run on off use times. I swear 99 out of 100 customers that complain about slow computers is for that one simple thing. They get home from work/school, fire up the PC to do some gaming or whatever and every single thing starts to update, run, scan and they think they have a virus or need a new PC.

The clarity with which you cover all the stages - as well as explaining your reasoning - makes your pc building video series stand out. As someone who likes the clean, uncluttered look, I like the way you configured your Windows desktop too. This is the guide I shall be following when I come to put together my new pc.
Great reminders of when to backup data for your USB and storage/boot drives. I also appreciated that black screens were normal when drivers first install. I know it's normal, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a twinge of doubt every time the screen goes dark on a new build.
The directions that came with my components were pretty good. Linux's write up made the boot media easy. However, it could have done better on where to go after and lead you directly to the most important resources.
Lol. For me it's been 8 years. Finally time to replace the old 22nm Haswell architecture system. Goodbye old Intel 2-core Pentium CPU. Goodbye Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 with 1 GB of VRAM. Goodbye 2015 budget build. Hello 2023 AMD CPU, AMD GPU mid-range build. Jumping from 4 GB of DDR3 ram straight to 32 GB of DDR5 ram is kind of exciting.

@@Andre_ASG it went really smoothly. No issues at all and the PC worked first try! I went with a Ryzen 7 5700X and an XFX Radeon 6700XT, no complaints so far with ultra wide 1080p gaming. I’d say take your time and double check everything, but really the hardest part for me was some of the screws sucked to reach on the motherboard install.. wish I had a magnetic tip screwdriver lol

It's like riding a bike. I hadn't built a system since around that time as well, biggest difference I found was no more need for a dvd drive, as well as nvme instead of HDD, and PSU goes on the bottom of the case now. :) Built my system last Summer with an I3 12100, and RTX 2060, I've since upgraded to an I5 13600k and 3070 Ti.

My tips of the day, if you don't have a wifi or ethernet cable on hand (or they arrent recognise durring install) plug your phone via usb, and turn on "usb modem". This will share you phone wifi (or mobile data) with the computer ! Tada, internet without a 20$ addon

I already know how to install an operating system, but this popped up on my recommended videos and I watched to check out if RUclipsrs are teaching how to install Windows properly nowadays. Was pleasantly surprised by you showing how to do a somewhat minimal installation without a Microsoft account, use sane defaults, install a better browser and avoid bloating the system too much. You have a video on bios settings one should do after a build? Settings like Anove 4G, Resizable Bar, maybe Power Limits or Undervolting to manage temperatures if it needed?

My GAWD, it's PAUL. Your Newegg TV How To Build a PC guide from 2011 or 2013 got me through my first ever build in 2013 at the ripe age of 20. It's crazy looking back, but there was nowhere near the level of "obvious guides" back then. Especially in the 00s when I originally wanted to build in a area where my schools still used 98 and XP along with floppy disks in the late 00s/early 10s Took a whole day but man was that a feeling when it booted; it was also what spurned me to end my semester "off" of college and go back for something IT related annnnnnd here I am 10 years later in IT. Just uh, not at the "big bucks" level yet (hopefully one day). As someone who had nothing better than a dual core Aspire 5742z in my last 2 years of high school and really had no money or knowledge to use to scrape together something, it was a Godsend finding those videos when I was ready to plop down that 800$ for a budget build

Man- your channel like your best friend's feel good vibes good Christian house. No drama, no flashy segment skips, no 10x merch plugs, no clickbait- just good ol tech content. There's something soothing about coming to your channel after a days work, and just hearing you talk. Unrelated, but I'd love to see you branch into AI; either here or as an experiment on a side channel if you get the time and its something you're interested in- just talking about what's happening in the space, potentially playing with some code, etc.
Thanks for the video. Ive ordered parts for a new build as my current one is quite old. Ive watched multiple PC building videos so far but this one kind of wrapped up and encapsulated everything that ive learned so far from previous videos and more. The windows 11 install USB with the bios and wifi drivers as well as the wifi bypass is really great to know and have. Im fully confident in my ability to build this PC and get it up and running with no issues now. Again, thanks for the video and I have subscribed, I like your cool calm and to the point demeanor.
At 11:25 you show "CSM Enabled", which is NOT the optimal setting. For most users, "CSM Disabled" is a better choice. If Windows has been installed while in "CSM Enabled" mode, you'll need to start over & re-install Windows while in "CSM Disabled" mode. However, if installing Windows 7, "CSM Enabled" mode would be correct.

I am probably 25years since my last PC (having gone that laptop, console circle), but doing a new build with my son this weekend…. Staggered by how much everything has evolved… (2 TB ssd just arrived… yikes… how frikkin tiny it is… no more 75MB hdd grind & clunk??)… Your how-to’s have been a great help teaching this old dog!! I also really appreciate your easy manner & delivery, really helps with my understanding of how it all works.
I've been in corporate IT a loooong time building machines, but I still get ecstatic watching Paul build. Knowledge, craftsmanship, enthusiasm.. and most importantly, I know damn well he has a chilled beer close by even though it's not on screen.

Big one! Go to accessibility settings, visual effects and disable 'Transparency effects'.
Optional also disable 'Animation effects'.
Transparency takes valuable GPU resources, disabling animations makes your PC feel much more snappy.
Can also do something similar on an aging Android in dev mode, turn animation speeds to 0x

Man I waited MONTHS for this video to come out. I couldn't wait any longer and went ahead and built my new rig and actually made it through the setup and transferring data and windows onto the new computer. I had issues for a few days with blue screens and crashing and couldn't figure out why. Finally determined it was an XMP presetting in my BIOS that was juicing the RAM up too much causing instability. Glad I made it through in the end. Had to figure things out the hard way, but made it and have been gaming on this beauty for about a month now. Still stoked you released this video! Will be watching intently to see some things I likely could have avoided :)

I've been building PCs for decades and part 4 was worth the wait. Having watched all 4 parts I can honestly say that this build series was exceptional. Novices are blessed to have such clarity and experienced builders stick around to soak up any info they've missed over the years- that's when you know you've created a superb piece of content. I currently have a Dell G7 laptop with a RTX 2060, this has been my entry in the PC gaming verse for the last few years. I am not in anyway computer savvy but have come to enjoy PC gaming and have been toying with purchasing a Gaming desktop. I have looked at plug and play, create your own and have someone build it until I came across your channel. I have watch all 4 parts and this has to be one of the most complete and simplified how to builds I have viewed. I just went thru the list of items for this build and except for a couple of upgraded items I stayed right about a 1k which I have ordered. I am excited to get going on this build thanks to your channel and this series.
About running that command to enable offline installation - if we download the ISO file from MS, i.e. the 3rd option on MS website instead of the 2nd, and use Rufus to burn the ISO to a USB stick, Rufus provides the option to disable MS account, so we can get the option of offline installation right away without opening command prompt. Rufus also has the option to create a user as per the current system.

I have been building my own PCs since I first built a Pentium 233 with my brother when I was in middle school (and incidentally fried the motherboard because we thought we had to have all of the standoffs in the case, even the ones that didn't align with board holes). In all that time, I never learned what BIOS means. Thank you, Paul!

Excitingly waiting for commercials to end to see if I did things correctly. Son and I worked it out a while back using other folks. Thank you for all you do, Paul. We built the system found in episode 3. Did I do it right? It works! One thing I learned, and was quite worried about as it was my first AIO build, make sure you tell the BIOS about the AIO.
Glad you got your system going! I had quite a few people asking me about part 4, I know I took way longer than I intended to get it completed. Those AIO/Pump headers on newer boards are quite helpful for AIO installation, but yeah it's a good idea to make sure your mobo isn't trying to run your AIO pump on "silent" mode or anything 😅

@@DarkReturns1 Its in the "Smart Fan" area, where you set the Fan and Pump Speeds. Basically all you want to do is first check to see which fan header on your motherboard you plugged your AIO into, and then when booting into the BIOS (To Get into the BIOS/UEFI Simply Mash the "Del" key as soon as you turn on the PC until you end up in the BIOS), Then if you see "Easy Mode" at the Top left of the screen, hit "F2" so that you are switched to "Advanced, then You should be on the "M.I.T." Menu, and the bottom Option on that page should say "Smart Fan 5 Settings" choose that. Then at the top of the screen next to the Word "Monitor" will be a drop down menu, it will be on "CPU" by default, click CPU so that it opens the Drop down menu, and choose the header that you plugged your AIO Into. You could have plugged your AIO Into any header, the only difference with the ones labeled PUMP is that they sometimes support more AMPS and usually are set to full by default, but that is not always the case. Either way, your AIO will work no matter what Fan header you plugged into, all you want to do is pick that correct header on this screen, and then Drag all of the Dots up to the top of the graph so they are all at 100%. Its possible that will make the pump too loud for your taste, if thats the case, you can go as low as around 70%, but because AIO Pumps are not the most powerful pumps you generally want them to run as fast as possible to keep your cooling as good as possible. Just make sure that you set all the Dots to somewhere between 70 and 100%, then hit 'F10" on the keyboard to save and exit, and from now on your Pump will run at the speed you set. You are also welcome to set any of the Fans on the other fan headers to a curve of your choosing to make them quieter or to make the curve more aggressive based on your tastes.

Another good thing to do is go into scheduler and make sure everything is scheduled to run on off use times. I swear 99 out of 100 customers that complain about slow computers is for that one simple thing. They get home from work/school, fire up the PC to do some gaming or whatever and every single thing starts to update, run, scan and they think they have a virus or need a new PC.

Great reminders of when to backup data for your USB and storage/boot drives. I also appreciated that black screens were normal when drivers first install. I know it's normal, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a twinge of doubt every time the screen goes dark on a new build.

The directions that came with my components were pretty good. Linux's write up made the boot media easy. However, it could have done better on where to go after and lead you directly to the most important resources.
Lol. For me it's been 8 years. Finally time to replace the old 22nm Haswell architecture system. Goodbye old Intel 2-core Pentium CPU. Goodbye Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 with 1 GB of VRAM. Goodbye 2015 budget build. Hello 2023 AMD CPU, AMD GPU mid-range build. Jumping from 4 GB of DDR3 ram straight to 32 GB of DDR5 ram is kind of exciting.

@@Andre_ASG it went really smoothly. No issues at all and the PC worked first try! I went with a Ryzen 7 5700X and an XFX Radeon 6700XT, no complaints so far with ultra wide 1080p gaming. I’d say take your time and double check everything, but really the hardest part for me was some of the screws sucked to reach on the motherboard install.. wish I had a magnetic tip screwdriver lol

It's like riding a bike. I hadn't built a system since around that time as well, biggest difference I found was no more need for a dvd drive, as well as nvme instead of HDD, and PSU goes on the bottom of the case now. :) Built my system last Summer with an I3 12100, and RTX 2060, I've since upgraded to an I5 13600k and 3070 Ti.
The small tricks and tips made my build so easy. This three part series is exactly what a first time builder needs to know to be successful. 👍🏻

My tips of the day, if you don't have a wifi or ethernet cable on hand (or they arrent recognise durring install) plug your phone via usb, and turn on "usb modem". This will share you phone wifi (or mobile data) with the computer ! Tada, internet without a 20$ addon

You have a video on bios settings one should do after a build? Settings like Anove 4G, Resizable Bar, maybe Power Limits or Undervolting to manage temperatures if it needed?

My GAWD, it's PAUL. Your Newegg TV How To Build a PC guide from 2011 or 2013 got me through my first ever build in 2013 at the ripe age of 20. It's crazy looking back, but there was nowhere near the level of "obvious guides" back then. Especially in the 00s when I originally wanted to build in a area where my schools still used 98 and XP along with floppy disks in the late 00s/early 10s
Took a whole day but man was that a feeling when it booted; it was also what spurned me to end my semester "off" of college and go back for something IT related annnnnnd here I am 10 years later in IT. Just uh, not at the "big bucks" level yet (hopefully one day). As someone who had nothing better than a dual core Aspire 5742z in my last 2 years of high school and really had no money or knowledge to use to scrape together something, it was a Godsend finding those videos when I was ready to plop down that 800$ for a budget build
How refreshing a tech youtuber making a instructional video with tons of useful tips, and is entertaining to watch! Not a mention of the band wagon videos of the last few days. A+ sir keep up the good work!

Man- your channel like your best friend's feel good vibes good Christian house. No drama, no flashy segment skips, no 10x merch plugs, no clickbait- just good ol tech content. There's something soothing about coming to your channel after a days work, and just hearing you talk. Unrelated, but I'd love to see you branch into AI; either here or as an experiment on a side channel if you get the time and its something you're interested in- just talking about what's happening in the space, potentially playing with some code, etc.

Thanks for the video. Ive ordered parts for a new build as my current one is quite old. Ive watched multiple PC building videos so far but this one kind of wrapped up and encapsulated everything that ive learned so far from previous videos and more. The windows 11 install USB with the bios and wifi drivers as well as the wifi bypass is really great to know and have. Im fully confident in my ability to build this PC and get it up and running with no issues now. Again, thanks for the video and I have subscribed, I like your cool calm and to the point demeanor.

At 11:25 you show "CSM Enabled", which is NOT the optimal setting. For most users, "CSM Disabled" is a better choice. If Windows has been installed while in "CSM Enabled" mode, you'll need to start over & re-install Windows while in "CSM Disabled" mode. However, if installing Windows 7, "CSM Enabled" mode would be correct.
