So far, this is possibly the best explanation I've come across for what each of the 'basic' parts does and how they work together. You use easy to understand language that even laymen can understand and now I have a better understanding of what each part of the computer does beyond 'The RAM makes applications work faster' and 'The CPU does things and is important'. I’ve been considering building my first pc as a gift to my wife and your video has given me so much confidence to do it after almost losing hope seeing other much more complicated videos out there. You have an excellent way of explaining things and use such great analogies that make it easy to understand. Thank you, i’m very excited to order the parts and build it soon!

Got a 7900xt at 700$ so i feel good building new but i need to know if i want am4 still or if i rehab my old system and build a fresh am5 system since i have the money. I also feel WAY better about upping to official windows 11 once and for all and getting my higher end pc rig ready for the next 5 years of my gaming journey cause the last 5 years on my 1080 have been insane as i watch rt and dlss from the background
Even if someone already knows the basics of computers, I really do recommend we all still regularly go to tutorials like this that are extremely in-depth and explain every last detail. It doesn't hurt to refresh the mind on how to do something!

As someone how has been thinking about building a PC this is THE BEST Video I have come across yet! I am sooo happy to finally get a basic understanding of what is what and the way you explain is amazing! Thank you
Thank you for the great video! I appreciate your teaching ability, and you have inspired me to keep researching to build my own first gaming pc when I felt like giving up. Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to learning more from you!
This is so nostalgic, i watched your old how to build series when i was building my first PC in 2017 and right now im looking to upgrade but i totally forgot how to build a PC from scratch, thank you for all the quality content you released throughout the years Paul!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m completely new to PC building and was looking for a video that breaks down each component and the important specs to look for. I took notes and it was easy to follow along
While I am absolutely not the target audience for this I can still appreciate this. Easier to send less knowledgeable friends this link than try and explain it all myself. Also love this video. Really great for beginners or intermediates. Keep up the good work. Pretty certain that the original series is what got me through my first PC build during covid. So super happy there's an update.
Micro center is literally THE BEST community and environment it’s not just a store it’s like a club for gamers and tech nerds a-like. I have been going for 7 years and it hasn’t changed hardly a bit. Everytime I go it’s a great time and a torture to my wallet or self discipline 😂😂 they need *MORE MICRO CENTERS!*
As a very impatient 15 year old who has no clue about pc building, I am gonna have to say that this was very well made and really helped me to understand! I am trying to save up some money to build my first PC and I now have a better understanding. Awesome video 👍
I know this is from last year, but this made me pull up my PC Part Picker page and comb through each part I (kind of randomly) chose and read into them more closely. I'm building a PC for the first time and I'm a little daunted, but I'm excited to watch more of your videos after watching this excellent breakdown. Thank you!
Very few things I find more pleasant after work than watching someone talk about building a PC. I really needed this video. I see also that you have 2 more after in the series. I'm watching them now.
As someone who has been playing computer games most my life this was probably the first time someone managed to explain to me in a good, understandable and interesting way what the pieces actualyl do.
Paul 6 years ago you helped me build my first ever computer from what I saved up from my last ever retail job. 6 years, 3 degrees, and my first real paycheck later, you're helping me all over again. Thank you so much for keeping the lights on all these years.
Ive never felt so stupid when watching other videos on the same topic. This is the first one where I was actually able to understand and retain the information. I now feel like I have the base level of understanding required to do research for my optimal build. Thank you.
Thank you so much Paul. As someone who was tech illiterate especially in PC hardware and building, this video is super helpful and well presented in a way truly doe beginners (ive seen others and they used too mucy jargon and overcomplicate). Cant wait to build my gaming pc soon because of you 🤝
Extremely helpful… not even building a PC because I am bound to screw it up, but its important to know what pre-built I buy and what exactly the heck it is I am buying!!!! Especially the upgrade ability with PCI 4-5 etc.
As a seasoned PC enthusiast, I dont need a lesson on how to choose PC parts. But every once in a while, it's nice to sit through these "how to" tech videos that are very basic and in some cases, common knowledge videos. It's kind of like learning how to tie your shoes again.
Much appreciation on breaking everything down. It is nice to be able to understand how everything functions and what certain terms mean. A thousand thanks.
PC building guide videos will always be in demand as there's always a new generation of builders awaiting their "pc building awakening" if you like. Your videos were an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others can relate to this. Keep up the great work!
Why do I always watch his building videos when he has taught me it all already? I think it's his video structure and instructional style. Thanks @Pauls's Hardware! You have literally saved me hundreds of dollars with your videos!
Just starting to get into pc building lest i get left behind by my gaming buddies. I will be saving this video for near future views as i explore more people and ideas to listen to. Thanks much!
Thank you so much for this. I’m completely ignorant about PC hardware and it’s function. I’ve finally decided to build my PC and I know what parts I need but nothing about their purpose and the specs I should look for to meet my usage needs.
This is a great update. Simple and concise. Used the last one and hope the other in this series give us pointers on what to put in with the current generation of stuff
My current PC has finally kicked the bucket after a valiant stand! This guide could not have been timed better, thanks my man, valuable information as my next PC will be my first ever time building! Cheers.
Omg I’m such a newbie and this video easily explains everything so well. Now I understand what the parts really do and what to look for so I can build. Thank you!
Paul your 2019 build has been amazing and got me through the lockdown so Glas this series is going strong. That said those 4090 and 7900xt prices got me crying because if how stupid expensive they are
4070Ti is a bit better than the 4090. You can find a new one at MSRP, and if nVidia gets off their lazy ass and releases a 4070 non-ti, or a 4060, they might be cheaper.
@@KayDizzelVids cool stuff. I actually had my eye on 6900xt because I saw it had good frames to value but I'll definitely look into the 4070 too thanks for the idea
I will finally this year, I swear, replace my computer from 2010. This video is such a helpful reference for first-time builders like me. Some information I knew, but a lot I didn't, and it's all in one place, so I'm sure I'll be peeking at it again and again. I am really looking forward to the rest of this series.
I am about to start my first build…. Really do not feel good going into this. I want a bad ass gaming computer.. I am sadly too ignorant in this field. I appreciate the help. Wish I had a guy like you around my neck of the woods.
One of my coworkers sent me a link to one of your videos as you're one of few people he watches for build guides. Im thankful he did. I've learned more from this one vid than the handful of others i watched. Definitely subbing! Thank you paul. You're videos are gonna help me build my first gaming pc 😁 cheers!
tysm for explaining the basics of each part. I had to write an essay on pc hardware but I'm not that interested in it so I didn't know what all the acronyms meant and which specs were the most important so thanks, you just saved my grade
Thank you Paul, this is now my go-to video to forward to friends and family who often ask me to either build them a computer or help them buy one. I think your explanations are really helpful for those shopping pre-builds also.
This is like the third tutorial I've seen and he's the first person to explain simply what everything is and to stop acknowledge that too much information or acronyms all at once is really complicated - 11:40
Paul over here dropping knowledge bombs I wish my high-school computer courses were this informative about hardware and the specifics for wut they accomplish
This is actually a perfect explainer. I’m very interested in building my first machine and you’ve explained a LOT of what I was simply too stumped about. Now to move on to the actual building video. Cheers, my man
i learned how to build my first computer via your excellent 3 part series years ago (i think you were still with Newegg or maybe they sponsored that video). i learned one major thing from those videos that saved my first computer build. I breadboarded the major components outside the case to test them. As it turned out i had a bad motherboard and while that was frustrating.. it was actually way easier troubleshooting outside the case rather than inside the case. if i have someone that i'm helping them build a computer, i routinely tell them to watch your video series as they are the best i have seen.
DUDE!!! This video KICKS ASS!!!!!!!! Literally what I've been looking for! Doing my first PC build and needed a video explaining exactly what everything does. THANK YOU!
This is excellent. One thing I would add that immensely helped me when choosing parts for my very first computer build in 2017. Benchmarks. You mention all of the aspects of CPUs and GPUs with aspects of their performance (P/E cores, or Cuda and Tensor cores for GPUs). A MUCH simpler way to decide between two GPUs in the price range you're willing to pay is compare benchmarks. For general purpose (not necessarily gaming), I just use the passmark benchmarks. Comparing benchmarks of current and last gen components will help decide components for 99% of first time builders.
10 years later, and I still click on Pauls PC build tutorials Thank you for a decade of reassurance when building PC's, you've saved me a lot of money and introduced me to the best hobby
If you're new to PC gaming.. you do not need to spend thousands to get something similar to a series s or PS5. You can build an equivalent PC to consoles for around $600. You can get psu, nvme, Mobo, 5600 6vore, ram and case for around $400 from microcenter. This setup will get around 75% of the fps of the latest stuff. Of course you want something stronger for a flagship GPU but if you're aiming for a starter setup, the price to performance of 5600 combo from microcenter cannot be beat.
Hi Paul, for years I wanted to build my own computer. In 2019 I was finally able to do it thanks to your tutorials. I have no plans to build again, but I’ll be watching this series regardless. Thanks for the years of help and entertainment!
I like how every so often I see a video of yours, and it's a "How to build" series. Technically, you only need one every decade or two, but someone like myself would prefer a recent video over one 3 years old. Especially since a novice wouldn't know PC building has been (relatively) the same from the very beginning. But what would I know, I'm just a novice enthusiast myself.
This may be a super strange thing to say but I’ll go ahead and say it anyways. I’m autistic and I have a very hard time listening to and understanding these types of videos but I was able to sit through this and actually understand what you’re telling me. I’m very appreciative of you and the content that you make. Thank you for helping me!
good timing. My daughter is just about to tear down an old work computer and may want to build her own next so this will be a good fallback guide if/when I get too stressed being IT support :)
any tips for getting matched parts - I tend to use forums and pc part picker but its odd that you often need personal recommendations as things can be so finicky
I like were this video is going... but I just finished my build so I wont finish watching it. However, thank you for doing this type of video as most people only do a build every few years and specs change faster than most of us build PC's.
Great video! Thank you for all the detail. I am moving from an iMac to PC for photo editing in LR and hope to build my own PC. So your intel is very helpful for this beginner. Thank you again. Joseph
Excited to see the next few parts. As someone building their first build ever soon, I'm interested to see footage of the process of installing parts, plugging them in to the mobo, PSU, etc. That's the stuff that has me uncomfortable doing correctly.
Appreciate the info! I knew just bit and pieces of PCs but not all. Currently on a Gaming Laptop but moving to a Desktop in a few days. Glad I got to know a bit more info so I can eventually but gradually upgrade the components along with the case.
The original version of this may have taught me how to build a PC but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been looking forward to this updated version.
Same! The 2019 series was pretty much an instruction manual for my first few builds
I should update my build. To this day my creation sits upon a throne in the Vatican.
Same. I just made my some watch this and part 2 because he wants to build his pc for a birthday

For a rookie PC Builder, this guy covers every aspect of each component very well. Subscribed! 👍🏽
I've been building PCs for years, several for friends and family, but I always love watching videos like this
Even if someone already knows the basics of computers, I really do recommend we all still regularly go to tutorials like this that are extremely in-depth and explain every last detail. It doesn't hurt to refresh the mind on how to do something!
Hey there! As a fellow tech enthusiast, I totally agree with you. In-depth tutorials and refreshing our knowledge are always valuable. By the way, have you heard of the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a handy tool that offers both vacuuming and blowing capabilities, perfect for maintaining a clean desk setup and more. Worth considering for your cleaning routine and organizing your space!

As a beginner who is getting into building a PC this channel is an amazing gateway for new people to get into building PC's I love this channel!
My first video on the murky world of computer building. Helped me a lot thanks!
As a very impatient 15 year old who has no clue about pc building, I am gonna have to say that this was very well made and really helped me to understand! I am trying to save up some money to build my first PC and I now have a better understanding. Awesome video 👍
As they say, patience is a virtue... Especially true if you have no idea what you're doing and you spent hundreds of dollars on components.
I know this is from last year, but this made me pull up my PC Part Picker page and comb through each part I (kind of randomly) chose and read into them more closely. I'm building a PC for the first time and I'm a little daunted, but I'm excited to watch more of your videos after watching this excellent breakdown. Thank you!
Your videos gave me the confidence to build my first PC in 2019, love the updated version.
Thank you so much for keeping the lights on all these years.
nice
Ive never felt so stupid when watching other videos on the same topic. This is the first one where I was actually able to understand and retain the information. I now feel like I have the base level of understanding required to do research for my optimal build. Thank you.
A yearly update as new parts and features come out is a great idea.
I haven’t even watched the video but I have already liked it because I know it’s going to be great
As a seasoned PC enthusiast, I dont need a lesson on how to choose PC parts.
As a veteran PC builder, I always enjoy beginners guide as I'm still learning so this was a great tutorial Paul
Is it hard to build one if you have the iq of a leftover baked potato?
@@KingFrogletwhat did he do to deserve that lol
@IhateYouAndRUclips i asked him os it hard to build one if i am stupid not if he was stupid i didnt insult him
@@KingFroglet I have the iq of a baked potato apparently
@IhateYouAndRUclips i do too bro😔 i do too
Why do I always watch his building videos when he has taught me it all already? I think it's his video structure and instructional style. Thanks @Pauls's Hardware! You have literally saved me hundreds of dollars with your videos!
I may need this refresher since the last time your video helped me was back In 2012.
Just starting to get into pc building lest i get left behind by my gaming buddies. I will be saving this video for near future views as i explore more people and ideas to listen to. Thanks much!
Thank you so much for this. I’m completely ignorant about PC hardware and it’s function. I’ve finally decided to build my PC and I know what parts I need but nothing about their purpose and the specs I should look for to meet my usage needs.
hi there i hope you are well . i am impressed of this video. now i can know how to build a pc thank you so much
This is a great update. Simple and concise. Used the last one and hope the other in this series give us pointers on what to put in with the current generation of stuff
I’ve been building my own gaming PCs for over 20 years, and still learned plenty from this video. Thanks!
I like how Paul explains everything, so you can understand what each PC component does.
This year I went with a 5600x and a Radeon 6600xt. Overall it was a ~$1500 build. All last gen stuff. I'm pretty happy with it.
Similar for me, only I kept allmy old parts, so the cpu and gpu came to $350. Quite a jump from a 2700/rx580.
@@ToddandRaquiForrest I bet! This is my first PC build ever. It's pretty amazing.
Thank you!
I've dealt with sciatica myself. You're dedication is greatly appreciated. Take care brother!
@@ninja1man4u 6900xt is also nice and you don’t need a special connector for it too. Honestly I’d get which ever is less expensive.
You sir are a Genius!!! building my first PC so this video gave me more confidence on doing it on my own!!!
This video right here a year ago gave me the confidence to do my own build. Still running strong a year later!
I will finally this year, I swear, replace my computer from 2010. This video is such a helpful reference for first-time builders like me. Some information I knew, but a lot I didn't, and it's all in one place, so I'm sure I'll be peeking at it again and again. I am really looking forward to the rest of this series.
10 months have passed so far, did you do it yet?
Thanks Paul you Rock.
Haven't built one in 15 years and this video was perfect. Thank you!
Man I’d love a micro centre in the uk . You guys are so fortunate
Perfect timing building in the Hyte Y60.
I went from “What the hell is a motherboard,” to “Why is the stuff green.”
You taught me how to build a pc in a vid I'd have to say over 10 years ago now and have since built a few, and some for friends thanks a mill !
DUDE!!! This video KICKS ASS!!!!!!!! Literally what I've been looking for! Doing my first PC build and needed a video explaining exactly what everything does. THANK YOU!
Did you finish your PC build and were there any learning curves?
This is excellent. One thing I would add that immensely helped me when choosing parts for my very first computer build in 2017. Benchmarks. You mention all of the aspects of CPUs and GPUs with aspects of their performance (P/E cores, or Cuda and Tensor cores for GPUs). A MUCH simpler way to decide between two GPUs in the price range you're willing to pay is compare benchmarks. For general purpose (not necessarily gaming), I just use the passmark benchmarks. Comparing benchmarks of current and last gen components will help decide components for 99% of first time builders.
im currently trying to get A+ certified and this really helps me grasp the concepts better.
10 years later, and I still click on Pauls PC build tutorials
Thank you for a decade of reassurance when building PC's, you've saved me a lot of money and introduced me to the best hobby
This was interesting I am trying to learn about pc and this was really good info
Getting ready to build another pc. I have built 3 but this series will be a nice refresher.
Brilliant video. I'm an old hand at building computers, but thoroughly enjoyed watching this and would happily share it with beginners.
Excellent video Tech for 25 years and still learned a lot thank man!!!
This gave me a really good understanding on what this is about. Thankyou very much
Love the video! Thanks! I'm going to attempt to build two computers with my daughters ages 9 and 11. Going to use your videos to help! Wish me luck!
Appreciate the info! I knew just bit and pieces of PCs but not all. Currently on a Gaming Laptop but moving to a Desktop in a few days. Glad I got to know a bit more info so I can eventually but gradually upgrade the components along with the case.
