@25:19 Please add a warning label to NEVER use any cables other than the ones that are certified to go with the EXACT MAKE AND MODEL number of your power supply!
The cable might fit in the PSU but the order of the pins may not be the same on the end of the original and replacement cable destroying or badly damaging the hardware you plug it into!
REALLY IMPORTANT! I learned this the painful way multiple times.
And second time around I checked too. It was different from another one from the same brand and afaicr the same line of PSUs! REALLY (!!!) check and double check with modular PSUs. If you are crafty, of course, you might be able to recrimp and reseat a cable should for instance one break or you need a sleeved cable in a certain color and so on....

same brand doesn't even protect you, such is the state of pc parts now.
As someone who makes their own cables, I can agree to some extent, I make my own so that I can Braid them or colour match them to my build, but it's important to use the correct wire and also study the pin outs, there's a lot of cross overs from PSU's not everything go's A to B!
@clifftempleman8217 Seeing that you know what you are doing, you know the risks and probably double/triplecheck the pinout.
The video mostly aimed at people who are making (one of) their first computer(s), a clear warning for them to be aware that they cant just use any cables can prevent a lot of damage and headache finding out

Two weeks ago I built my very first PC build from the ground up watching the previous LLT build guide; I’m very happy with my build, and ecstatic to know that there are updates to these types of guides.

I built my first ever computer last fall using the previous build guide! Really made me feel a whole lot more comfortable watching that video through a few times before I started. Your forum community was amazing as well when I had some pretty major issues after my build was completed, turns out I had a faulty motherboard that nuked itself when I tried to update the bios 😮 😅
I've never built a pc, but I know when I finally do (hopefully in the next year), I'll have a fantastic guide to make sure I put all the bits and bytes in the right spots! This is such a cool resource to have on the channel for newbies like me😅🖤

Congrats. I thought I would had used the ltt guide more as well, but I found smaller youtubers (like tiny) often had better videos for hyper specific parts of the procces. I bookmarked them all totalling like 25 videos, but its fun to learn it.

I have a tip. When you think you have found a part. Watch a ton of reviews, get as much information about it as possible. Compere it to other parts. Eventually you’ll have something that’s 100% perfect for you needs
Nah. You find a part, you buy it and then you do your darn best to watch all reviews and justify the purchase. Works great so far! \s

Just watched the original yesterday and now I’m watching this update hahaha last time I built a pc was 10 years ago and now I’m waiting for my parts to arrive and watching this helped me with some questions I had.
One thing I noticed is that on Emily’s pre transition table she have a closed and sad person figure and in her post transition table a much happier figure! I’m glad she’s doing ok, miss her on camera sometimes

I don’t know the crazy timing but I used this video to make my pc that I had picked out from pc part picker and some friend’s help. I did the build last night. This was incredibly helpful and walked me through the whole process perfectly. Thank you so much! Only problem I had was that i had to reinstall the ethernet driver for some reason. I thought my board was bad. I recommend anyone to use this video!

This feel significantly more detailed, organised and carefully produced than the first video. That final segment explaining BIOS features is super helpful. I never touched my BIOS really because, despite following LTT for years, I didn't really understand how changing the settings would effect my PC. Now, I think I'm definitely going to be enabling Resizable Bar

My favorite part about these guides is that I rewatch them, not because I necessarily *need* to, but because as anyone who does anything having to do with a relatively complex process tree can attest to, keeping your mind fresh on the checklist is the best way to stop stupid human errors, no matter if it’s your first time doing it or your millionth time doing it.
I don't know if these guides get a lot of views, but I'm sure people who are building their first PC love it. It's an amazing resource to everyone, so thank you very much ❤

4 Things:
1 - Either I missed it or you forgot to mention the most important thing when deciding on a PSU:
The power budget.
Make sure to have a PSU with enough budget to power everything you want to connect to it.
And if needed a bit more for possible later additions.
2 - Power supply may not always mount on the bottom.
In this case it would have been nice to explain how to deal with the fan in that case.
3 - Some people actually still use external drive bays.
either for Optical drives or card readers.
Or in some very niche cases maybe even floppy disk (if supported) either with its standard connector or via USB 1.1 (wich should work on a USB 2 port).
When deciding on a case, figuring out weather or not you need external bays is important.
As well as their size and the amount of them.
Its fine if you need to install a 2.5 inch device if you only have larger bays.
however in this case it is good to note weather the device your buying comes with an adapter or weather your going to have to get one separately.
4 - Some people may also want or need to install a Wi-Fi Card.
Either with or without Bluetooth.
When opting for an internal card:
Wi-Fi cards that have both BT and Wi-Fi may use separate connections for both.
The standard PCie where the card itself goes in and an additional internal USB cable.
if the cable is not attached to the card itself, the connector tends to be freakishly small, so be carefull with that one.
When deciding on where to place this card:
It is not only a good idea to check which size port you want, but if possible also make sure you have enough room on the back of the case to screw in the antenna(s) and orient it/them correctly i.a.
1:34:00 Glad you guys addressed the reversed diagrams for pull/push fan configuration that I commented on the original video. If you're planning on keeping the original, can you please put annotations to address it there as well? It might help people coming across the original first. Timestamp for pull/push in the old video is 1:25:27 .
Positive Feedback:
This is the quality style and especially in depth(-ness?) I love. While I can understand that it's not especially cost and time efficient compared to some other Videos, it is very welcome at least once in a while. The other videos are great too, but this was spot on, a 10/10. Love it, keep it up.
I clicked this video thinking it was a 20 minute video. At 1 hour and 30 minutes in was when i realized it it was more than 20. Thats a good sign of a good video.
1:03:16 Some newer fans come with reverse fan blades, so you can mount the ugly side away from your view.
Especially helpful if you have one of those fishtank cases and you want the exhaust fans to still look good.
Great job LTT team on another detailed guide to build PC. My current PC was built in 2016, so it's been a while since I've looked at newer components. This will prove helpful when I eventually build another, though with the first question, i have no real reason to build it as i don't even have the time now to play games.

Now I guess I could confidently follow this to buy my PC one day without needing much research.
Or else, like I typically do when wanting to buy something new and need to learn of it and its best things... that'd probably take me weeks if not a month to learn it all to my satisfaction on what to get for my PC.

This is why I followed LinusTechTips all the way back in 2013, just some nerdy PC information, sick builds, and sweet benchmark graphs. My 11 year old PC has finally lost driver support for dx12 games and now I'm here looking for an affordable upgrade route.
I love this channel but I love it even more after seeing Jake wearing a FSM shirt in this video! RUclipsrs from one platform supporting another youtuber with a completely different hobby! I'm gonna have to get an LTT screwdriver just to put in my automotive toolbox now! lol You guys are awesome!

The skunk2spec489 person I replied to has gone through a large amount of comments that mention Emily and either tried to “correct” the OP or stated straight out that Emily doesn’t exist. This is blatantly targeting Emily and either transphobic or a trans-denier. Either way, skunk2spec489 is going out of their way to speak out about a class of person. It may or may not rise to the level of hate speech in a courtroom, I don’t know, but it does rise to that level for a social media platform.
Just let people be happy and call or define themselves how they want. No need to go around harassing others because they called someone by a new name.

@@morstyrannis1951 You are welcome! The way I see it, if I introduce myself as William and later on I tell someone to just call me Bill, why should that be such a big deal? I’m the same person I always was, I just feel more comfortable with being called another name. It’s the same thing in my mind; at first we said Anthony, later it was more comfortable to say Emily.
I don’t get why it’s such a big deal to some people. If she’s happy when we call her Emily, other people should just be decent and say Emily.

If you find the small form factor appealing, I can recommend Cooler Master NR200 case. This case is incredibly easy to build in, and while it's not as tiny as some of the more traditional ITX cases, I would say that if you dare make your first build an SFF, this is the one option that will not end in a disaster. IMO it's one of the best cases ever designed, a real AK-47 of the PC cases.
Great job at highlighting the option to buy used. It's not only the sustainable option, but for most people will serve just as well as a new part. Don't forget to sell your old stuff when upgrading also! That'll motivate you to take good care of your hardware!

I’ve been building pc’s since I was 11, I’m 22 now. but it’s always good to refresh your memory.
I watched a 12 minute video to build my computer 5 years ago. Still using it today and working amazing :). Thanks to whoever uploaded that 12 minute 1,000 dollar pc build XD.

I understand that some of your character "traits" match more to a female than to a male and I totally agree with that, it can happen, but claiming you have suddenly changed your biology, your DNA since last year is simply a lie. Maybe that's not what he thought when he came out as a "woman", but as a man claiming that you're a woman that's exactly what you're saying.

Back in the ol CompUSA days (memba them?), you started your PC build by first selecting the motherboard that you wanted because CPU selections back in those days were really VERY limited. Now it's the exact opposite. Now you first select the CPU because of the wide range of CPU selections.
Built my current PC based on the last "How to" video and I couldnt be happier with it in every aspect!
Interested to find out what / if I could have done somethings different or better :D

Hands down so informative. I am searching to upgrade to a new computer but still not sure what are the abbreviations and standards I should look for. I want something that can handle some gaming and also I can be productive with daily extensive internet browsing and entertainment device. Well now I know everything, just need to save money to buy the things lol.

I highly recommend using thermal paste which is rated to last more than 5 years before needing to be re-applied, or you can use those graphite (graphine?) pads which supposedly never need to be re-applied. There's nothing wrong with the paste that doesn't last as long, it's just easy to forget what paste you used, and it's a lot of work to have to re-apply paste after only three years.
It's also nice to have fans which will last a long time before needing to be replaced. Higher quality fans don't just last longer, they also tend to perform better, have a more pleasant sound, and are less likely to get louder over time. Noctua fans can be very expensive, but I have only ever bought their cheapest older model fans and cheaper "Redux" line models, and the oldest ones I have are over 10 years old now and they still sound good as new. I have paid roughly 10-15 USD per Noctua fan in my system, and with inflation, prices are probably at least 20% higher than that now, but I'd say that's money well spent. These fans have been absolutely amazing.
Almost all other fans I've had have started making annoying noises some time between a few months to a few years within the time that I first started using them. I've had good results from somewhat cheaper Arctic cooling fans as well, but those still had 5 or 6 year warranties and weren't the cheapest by any means.
