      what a clueless review this was. If you're going to talk about controls then have a clue what you're actually talking about. The original N64 version of this was a delight providing you had a well working controller. The learning of this subtle range is essential you goon and it likely doesn't help that to this day Nintendo still hasn't put out a decent version of this game with a well replicated control. Wii and WiiU versions had a vey jittery controlling even when patched. Have some respect for the players and stuff you're reviewing
      Just to add then, you're forming an opinion based on your ignorance because you think F-Zero x plays a certain way which it certainly doesn't. If Fzero x played as bad as the time you are obviously having with it in terms of the badly implemented control range then just about anyone will each the same conclusion. You cant remember what it plays like so quite what you are using as a basis for it being a good game is anyone's guess because the gameplay you show is horrendous

    When it comes to losing traction, not only does it differ from vehicle to vehicle, you’re also meant to use the fact that the N64 controller has an analogue stick (which, remember, was a new and defining feature of the N64), to carefully maneuver through corners.
    Like a lot of Nintendo games, F-Zero X was designed around the console and the controller it was made for. So you’re not meant to slam the analogue stick all the way left or right, but rather find the sweet spot required for that particular turn and vehicle, going as far as you need to take the corner, without losing traction. This adds to the game’s replayability, as you’ll play a lot of tracks slightly differently depending on the vehicle you’re driving. And of course, you’re also meant to use the L & R buttons during turns, when necessary.
    I will agree that it’s not intuitive, and that it doesn’t feel as immediately good as GX’s handling does (I got very frustrated by it as a kid). But once I understood why it’s designed the way that it is, I came to appreciate the depth it added to the game. It ephasizes how F-Zero is meant to be Nintendo’s hardcore racer compared to it’s more pick up and play Mario Kart.

      Right, the differences in hardware make it fill "too sensitive" definitely with a N64 classic controller the game should handle more closely to what the devs intended for it.

    • @Chesterfried
      @Chesterfried 2 года назад +5

      The main problem is the increased sensitivity of the Switch control stick, which makes subtle movements a lot more difficult. I noticed it was a problem in Ocarina of Time when trying to perform spin attacks consistently and it is even more apparent with F-Zero X where accurate control is a must. I'm sure with enough practice it can be overcome, but i would like to see Nintendo do something at the emulation level to better account for the Switch's improved control sticks.

    My preferred way to do hard turns in F-Zero X is to use side attacks (double tapping L/R) instead of just holding the trigger or just turning normally. Side attacks give you a lot of leeway to not only keep your grip, but also maintain a great amount of speed while turning.
    If you are going fast, utilize side attacks. It’ll help a lot.

    For a fifth gen console game the vehicles are actually not low poly, and the tracks themselves are actually pretty high poly for a fifth gen game. Look at the polygon count on Playstation or Saturn games. The cars would usually have very, very few polygons. Most fifth gen console racing games wouldn't even come close to the number of polygons per second they're pushing, even including a lot of other N64 games, I think.
    The N64's rendering power was actually by far the best among the fifth gen consoles aside from the fact that it just couldn't handle a lot of texture detail, due to it being handicapped by the design and latency of the memory system that was used, and also because there just wasn't a lot of storage space for storing textures on the cartridges anyway.

      This remaining dude from GameXplain has no clue. Here a few tips and how to approach the game and what made it really great.
      Slow down a bit before taking a sharp corner and/or don't turn too abruptly, but gradually increase into the corner. Learn how / get used to move the analogue stick very precisely. The controls are super polished (I assume it's the same as it was for the N64), the whole point is getting better at going faster in corners without sliding, that IS the Skill-tree in this game (aka, your left thump controlling skill ). So it will take time to do that for the very tough challenges. It's the danger of sliding that creates the tension and excitement on difficult courses when you try to keep pushing yourself to be faster. So keep doing it and adapt. It'll come to you without any control "fixes"
      There could be only one reason, that might make my comment irrelevant though: ... Maybe the Switch analogue sticks are not as precisely controllable as the N64 stick was, for some reason.. maybe the values fluctuate more than before, when trying to hold an intermediate position.

    Ah, yes. I know F-Zero X very well from back in the old days, and played it tons. (However, I've hardly ever played GX, so I don't know that one nearly as well.)
    (3:57) One time, I challenged myself to come in last place out of all survivors in each race, and still placed 1st overall in the end, because of the sheer amount of KOs I was able to cause to the competition.
    (5:06) 60 FPS indeed! I knew even back then that the gameplay looked a lot smoother than something like Super Mario 64 or Mario Kart 64.
    (5:17) Maybe that's why it feels like I've been doing far worse than I feel I should be when playing this on the Switch. Although, I think maybe the analog stick sensitivity could be partly to blame too, since I have trouble nudging it only slightly.
    (8:20) Yeah, I've heard more than enough garbled audio while playing other N64 games online with just one other person. Sometimes it's hilarious, but other times... "Ow, my freakin' ears!"

    playing F zero x requires a technique that is unique to two kinds of players
    me, I like to be in control and tend to not slide by smashing the A button to gain control at high speeds and crossing turnpikes
    others would slide like hell and go at serious speeds and take more dangerous ways to gain that speed.
    somehow the game is built solid like a rock, supporting many ways to play it from many machines to choose from as they all affect your unique technique.
    its stupid fun, and for some reason makes me like it more than GX despite how gorgeous and challenging it is.

    I want to think you didn't intend for the title to be so clickbaity and exploitative of the situation with the OoT glitches on NSO and that it's an honest mistake, but it would be great if you changed it to avoid spreading misinformation.
    The game works exactly like it does on the N64, another video was already made by other tuber basing it on yours, claiming the game is worse on Switch, which is factually wrong.
    MANY people online stay with just the title and are claiming there's issues with the emulation on F-Zero X based exclusively on the title of this review.

    • @GameXplain
      @GameXplain  2 года назад

      I haven't seen whichever video you're referencing, but I was very careful to ensure it actually did run worse on Nintendo Switch. I went through frame by frame and there were constant duplicate frames on Switch, which didn't happen on Wii U or N64. I even checked on a different Switch to verify.
      Also, Ocarina or any other NSO had no bearing on the title of this video.

    • @Akira-si2ww
      @Akira-si2ww 2 года назад

      @@GameXplain I clocked 22 hours on the game on Switch and I didn't notice any frame pacing issues, neither did any of the people I played with online, I'm sure you're not lying, but it may be something that can only be detected with tools.
      A spanish youtuber simply took the title of your video and made his own hours later, pushing the narrative that the emulation of this game is flawed, people in the comments of this video are doing the same, when it's not a fact at all and there's no framerate pacing issue to be noticed during normal gameplay.
      And with how it looks on Switch in comparison, it's obvious there was work put into this version, making the narrative your title is pushing all the worse.
      It doesn't even reflect the tone of your overall review, and yet it has an effect on it's own.
      I think no one could deny there were issues with OoT on NSO at launch, but this is literally the opposite, and to perpetuate the negativity around NSO even when they do good is a shame.

    My only criticism of this video is its constant comparisons between X and GX. Of course GX is the superior of the two - it was a polished sequel to an older game on an older console with a formula that just needed a bit of tweaking to reach perfection. But X still holds up great and feels as tight as ever.

    Man, the reason why you lost traction is because you didn't"t bother to learn how take turns efficiently, .. Driving at the highest speeds comes with risks, which made THIS game so fun and super satisfying. It was amazing to have a game where using and mastering all of the analogue stick's range was vital to be good. All gameplay.
    In my opinion F Zero X is better than GX because it has : Better more interesting controls (at least it was on the N64 version on that analogue stick) , better course design (more organic, more inventive, more verticality and changes in multiple axes at once. GX has a lot of flat or straight or rectangular trackdesign, if I remember correctly .. all I know is that I was not impressed.), better music compositions and a random track generator cup.
