The F-Zero AX machines can still be found in some cities of the US, Japan, as well as France, Spain, Netherlands and Russia (which has more AX machines than Japan does now, curiously) and some other countries. A total of 250 arcade machines were produced. Only 20 of them were officially imported into the US and run the English version of the game (Sega Triforce is region-free, but with some caveats). Now there are about 100-120 machines that exist in the world. Needless to say it's an ultra-rare arcade game from the start.
I recommend you all to play the Deluxe model of F-Zero AX, the one with the motion seat, a deluxe sound system and rumble. There's a map and a list of all known F-Zero AX machines locations on the internet. It's also worth noting that more machines are now in the hands of private owners taken for preservation during the past 3 years, some of them take the machines to various conventions.

@@orangeslash1667 Each of those racing games you mentioned are wildly different from each other.
3D F-Zero especially. No other game series plays like those. 30 racers on the same track at once, plus incredible high speed, and that's to say nothing about how wild the tracks are. There's also the ability to spin attack and side attack. (Plus built-in track and vehicle editors, character interviews, movies) There very few that feel or look like the F-Zero Games. Other anti-gravity racers usually do not replicate this.
Fast Racing Neo doesn't have as many racers present on the scene, but it becomes important to know which color to switch to not only heal energy but speed up.
Horizon Chase Turbo is a lot closer to games like Top Gear or Outrun, where you do have to outrace opponents, but tracks are built differently there. You don't really fall off course like in other games, but you do have to weave in and out of traffic a lot. Plus, tracks are a usually "flat" in comparison to the other games. It's how they're handled that really sets that game apart from the others you list.
Cruis'n Blast is also hugely different because you're mainly drifting and speeding up a lot on a lot of tracks that are Point-to-Point races. Not only that, but said races feature more detailed environments than the other games listed. You really feel like racing in Hollywood style set pieces for these tracks.
Every time I see "F-Zero feels to similar to everything else" it triggers a defensive reaction because that's a clear lie. And I'm not going to hear that Mario Kart is the same as F-Zero. No it isn't. Thinking that F-Zero or other racing games don't stand out is inherently flawed thinking.

@@custom-r The problem with F-zero GX is the game works as a single player game, but the game’s difficulty is what makes the multiplayer so frustrating. Now a days multiplayer is a big selling point in racing games but F zero is not known for multiplayer.
There are arcade racers out there that probably more accessible in multiplayer than GX. Nintendo doesn’t see the point in extremely hard single player games now a days.
Another problem is that F-zero X had to sacrifice graphics for frame rate. So there’s a big chance that a modern day F-zero would have reduced frame rate because the game is too ambitious.
There are other option if you didn't my previous ideas. there is Redout 2, Pacer, and Super Pilot. However that Last one is only on Steam.

    • @desamster
      @desamster Год назад

@@orangeslash1667 They planned LAN multiplayer for GX but canned it to work on the story mode. I believe Mario Kart Double Dash and Kirby Air Ride were two of the few Gamecube games that offered LAN play. F-Zero is a very competitive series, hence the strong time attack competition in all of its games. Competitive multiplayer would suit it well. Saying the game is too difficult is like saying Quake or Tekken are too hardcore. There's a crowd for these kinds of games. Honing of skills and competitive play are a core part of gaming.
Custom R is right. Those other racing games are wildly different. A lot of the futuristic racing games are Wipeout clones. Aero GPX looks promising though.

Since the release of Metroid: Other M and that game selling less than the Prime games, we have seen many 2D Metroidvania games come out and basically do what Metroid has done before but differently (sometimes better), so if you ask me, Miyamoto could employ that same question to the Metroid IP, how could Metroid standout from other Metroidvanias that are coming out as of late?
However, Metroid Dread has officially proven that Metroid can indeed standout on its own even in a sea filled with cheaper Metroidvania games as it became Metroid's best selling game ever. This shows that the IP itself does indeed stand out despite many other games having similar gameplay and level designs existing; so really I do think F-Zero could indeed standout among the other futuristic arcade racing games, it just needs to be a good game, and be marketed rather well by Nintendo.

FZero, Kirby, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Earthbound, Fire Emblem, etc, all going strong with solid SNES releases.

100 players, One track, one winner.

It is hardcore masochism to play, and you know- I like that! But I am one of a very small niche, and most Nintendo fans who like racers would prefer the friendly Mario Kart-way that takes you by the hand and teaches yoi how to play it in a friendly manner, letting you go soft or hard, it's okay buddy, you can do it how you want to. Back in the PS3 era, Sony had an MMO space, that would now fall under the asinine metaverse naming, called PlayStation Home. Within PlayStation Home there were different worlds, or spaces, with different games, one of these home spaces was Sodium, which contained two games, a tank-like shooter called SodiumOne and an anti-grave fast-paced racer called Sodium2, all developed by Outso and published by Lockwood Publishing, SCEA, and SCEE. I don't remember much about One, but 2 had a ton of unlockables and customization, as well as it's own in-game hub area for between race stuff. I think a cohesive world like this is the way F-Zero should go, rather than just racing it should provide more of a world, provide alternate gameplay, have more story to it, etc. I remember loving Sodium, though this was also 2011-2013 for me personally, the entire project was 2009+, probably up until the death of PS Home in 2015? Sadly, with that death of PS Home, there's no access to it, unless there's some revival project I don't know about that also includes the various home spaces, so low quality videos are really the only way to experience Sodium these days. I'm also not familiar with Outso, they seem to be a Europe-based outsourcing team (I guess the name Outso makes sense now), that did some work within only PS Home, developing the spaces for SOCOM, Warhawk, Uncharted, Infamaous, and Resistance, Sodium seems to be their only original project; similarly the publisher, Lockwood Publishing, seems to be a mostly Home-centric publisher, Outso and Lockwood don't even have their own wiki pages but you can search pages that have their names in them for context of what they've done, with SCEA and SCEE being Sony Computer Entertainment of America and Europe.
At the end of the day, Sodium is the perfect template for F-Zero going forward. Online hub world with other activities, a sprawling world, online with a reasonably high cap, the game doesn't have to be super demanding, world lore could be easily shoehorned in, a single player side with an actual story could also be shoehorned in. Combine the template of Sodium with the things Giles wanted to do, throw in the updated visual style that newer alternatives are coming out with, along with the classic F-Zero aesthetic, and it'd be a fairly cohesive game that has a lot to provide, and via that online hub world with side content it could evolve over time; hell, even throw in some generated track segments, one of the previous devs wanted to do it, and there's been other studios that have done similar, for example FOAM Entertainment's Riff Racer that algorithmically generates tracks based on a music file. There's massive potential, beyond just a racing game with a loose story, if Nintendo would greenlight a project; I mean, we've seen similar with Splatoon, we have the online game focus, a hub world with side content, and a single player that has a shifted focus and story, and we've seen how Splat has evolved between titles, there's no reason why F-Zero couldn't follow a similar world formula, especially when Sodium did the groundwork a decade ago and other titles are filling the various niches.

    • @xaytana
      @xaytana Год назад +1

@@jgodden8022 PS Home was extremely niche. I'm not even sure how popular it was, I think it only lasted so long due to how much of a money sink it was for Sony, considering a large amount of exclusive IPs were outsourced and how the three major branches of SCE were involved in it. It definitely catered towards the MMO social world space crowd, so IMVU, Roblox, Habbo, etc., though it was all Sony made/curated worlds and not really custom or personal worlds. I'd say it was ahead of its time, and might make a comeback now that everyone is doing their own metaverse thing. I remember one of the few promoted events I participated in was E3 of some year, long before anyone else started doing digital tradeshows and conferences, and those were mostly a product of the pandemic rather than a feature to increase viewership of said tradeshow. I also remember some minigolf game, disconnected from any IP similar to how Sodium was an original project, basically the proto-form of social golf games like Golf With Your Friends. Maybe it got less niche in its later years, but I didn't get a chance to spend all that much time in it, I just remember Sodium being one of my favorite spaces with the time I did spend within Home.
There is a revival project called Destination Home. I'm not sure what the scope of it is, current states, or when an open release is projected to happen. Late October of this year saw a closed beta, but again I have no idea _how much_ this actually covers, as PSH was massive. Honestly DYKG should do a video on Home, both its original iteration and the revival project, there's probably enough content there for an entire series of videos.

If the formula needs to be evolved to justify a new entry why not add weapon mods that can be unlocked on the final lap similar to how the booster is unlocked on the 2nd lap? Like how in the Speedracer film the vehicles had these secret weapons inside of them, imagine if there were character specific weapons such as Michael Chain firing a hook shot onto another racer to spin them around like a wrecking ball, or the hitman Pico having a sniper cannon, or The Skull being able to drop curse fields that siphon energy. That kind of innovation I think can breath new life into the series.
Add a good campaign that's not just for masochists with maybe a Three Houses esque hub that you can walk around to buy parts or take on bounties while being able to interact with the characters and I think that would be a very appealing title for returning veterans who want high speed madness and newcomers who to get into the series.

So he's making a bad excuse to refuse reviving FZ.

One easy idea is to remake some classic tracks into full 3D as one segment of the game. Battle Royale as suggested by some others here. Character-based story missions, a separate new main story to flesh out the F-Zero characters and universe. Customizable drivers to take through the main circuits. Retool upgradeable parts to be won or found during different modes. Maybe even a type of hub world that lets you explore the FZ universe personally for the first time; complete with shops, hangouts, bars, and specific character dwellings. Not even Mario Kart has that yet. Yes Nintendo, there are interesting angles to go with the series.

Nintendo needs to realize that GX didn't sell well because most people had a ps2, and the GBA titles did even worse because, well it was on GBA, not exactly the best platform for high speed racing. And they took F-Zero back to 2D flat levels. Now that the Switch is one of the best selling consoles, now is the time to revive it having significantly more potential players.
They don't really need to innovate, just make a great core experience with new tracks. Maybe add in a character and vehicle creator, and throw in an online multiplayer mode. Create beautiful worlds to race in, and maybe a hub area players can run around and explore, but in the end we just want to race.

I'd be happy with a GX remaster with all the AX stuff unlocked at this point.

That's what I've been saying for years. Just remaster GX with AX, give it online play and it will sell.

Giles could do a crowdfunding campaign and just ditch the brand for it and call it spiritual successor.

It seems to me like a lot of people have tried to do that... I think some of the appeal is the world, characters and aesthetic which is hard to capture with a new IP

    • @napoleonfeanor

@@nahometesfay1112 I think it would not be very hard to create something very similar, especially if it is modeled on the art style of the F-Zero 64 and SNES game's world. Of course, it would never be as big as a real F-Zero but still. If the project has a lot of success in relation to what they had as a budget, maybe Nintendo will eventually allow them an attempt. Also: an own IP would not need to be Switch exclusive. Trying probably won't hurt.

I would love to see F-zero revived into a racing/visual novel. Imagine Cowboy Bebop, Initial D and Megalo Box except it's F-zero. You play as Captain Falcon, contracted bounty hunter. Your mission is to bring down an intergalactic super mafia who runs a corrupt high speed space racing series. To do so you enter the races, travel between different tracks and towns from planet to planet, meet all kinds of cool, threatening, wacky and funny characters, some friendly (they may even be your colleagues) and some not so friendly. Imagine you arrive on the next planet and in the first race there is this local big shot who is clearly part of the mafia and he cheats like crazy, you don't stand a chance. So next you go into a more story driven visual novel part where you end up sabotaging the bad guys cheating scheme and thus you end up winning fair and square and move on to the next GP. Free pitch!

I think the only thing left for F-Zero at this point is for a new Mario Kart game to have a dedicated F-Zero Circuit, along with all the hover vehicles from that franchise.

after playing motorstorm apocalypse ive been dreaming of a f zero game with track deformation and destruction, scripted events etc.The future sci fi elements would give so much freedom: imagine racing on a track that circles a black whole;or racing through a volcanic planet raging eruption;or a race on a planet with huge tsunamis like that of interestelar movie...That would be the thing Miyamoto San was looking for when it comes tô something never done in the series.

I’ve been wanting a new F-Zero for soooo long, I got the Snes one, F-Zero X, GP Legend on my Wii u, I got Fast Racing Neo on Wii u, Fast RMX on switch, I’m gonna get Aero GPX (hoping it comes to switch) and I’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy of GX for years. It’s great to know that there’s devs that still want to make a new game, hopefully this’ll mean something in the future 🤞

I'm not gonna lie. I'm not a fan of F-Zero. Racing games just aren't my thing. However, for the sake of the F-Zero fans, I'd like to see it come back.

Aero-GPX is so far the only F-zero-like game that felt like F-zero. Fast, Redout, and the others are great but they all feel more like burnout. I am sure Gile's attempt at a fast futuristic racer will be great, but the idea of pileups and blown engines might interfere with the unique feel of F-zero.

I'm all for more futuristic racing games, and Aero GPX in particular looks highly promising and worth any F-Zero fan's attention. Still, no matter how many developers put out great spiritual successors, I know I'll never be fully satisfied until we see an honest-to-god new entry in the series. Something about F-Zero specifically - the physics, the art, the music, the characters, etc. - makes it irreplaceable to me. A new F-Zero is what I most want to see from Nintendo at this point - I'd trade 5 Fire Emblem games, some Kirbys, and even a couple of Zeldas just to see it happen.

If there is one golden opertunity for an F-Zero revival; the Switch would be it. Just about every single 1st or 2nd party Nintendo IP had their best selling installement on Switch. Zelda, kirby, Metroid, you name it. Nintendo does not need to worry it won't sell well (because it will) they just have to make the bloody thing!
