- Building the Perfect Subaru EJ20 Engine - Full Build Review + Specs
Andy from Scooby Solutions talks us through the build and the parts used in my Subaru Legacy 2.1 stroker EJ20 engine, or now EJ21
Using a nitrated ej25 crank, forged rods, pistons and a closed deck block this engine is capable of 600bhp and is now a EJ21.
Aside from the ej207 that can be bought as a semi closed block and it already factory forged I wanted to future proof this EJ. The Ej207 can be had for about 2800pounds and once mated to the heads with its associated parts will be around 3800 to 4000 pounds , at this price I could have a basic ej21 built. I originally wanted to just be a rebuild but got carried away and went for everything.
The new engine is a converted closed deck block
Now an EJ21
A 2.5 litre nitride crank
RR h beam rods
Roger clark pistons 8.6.1 compression
Roger clark headgaskets
Roger clark thermostat
Roger clark baffled sump
Mahle bearings
Reworked heads with stock cams
Solid shim conversion
Link ECU

Yes he's back! Glad to see some more content!
Cheers man. Yeah I’m back with the legacy
Really interesting vid, lots well over my head but really good
Cheers man. Yeah foreign language to me too most of it haha
Excellent video mate, love to hear the technical details that aren't usually shared - plus the cost transparency is refreshing. I'm eagerly watching your videos with the potential to replicate haha.
Yeah, it’s surprising difficult to get prices openly isn’t it. Glad you enjoyed it man
Been waiting for this
Me too!
Yayyy upload
Haha I’m still here!
Where about in the uk is this guys shop you guys seen like legends? I’m from nz and I have the exact twin turbo motor and am doing this exact build and conversion!!
The place is called Scooby solutions in Shrewsbury. Yeah Andy is a top bloke!
This looks mega! All in this cost around £3k? Would that be similar on a 2004 JDM twinscroll EJ20 do you think? Might be my upgrade in a couple of years but I'm currently at 105k miles on mine.
Hi man. Nah about double that for everything. The cost comparison for short block only.
If your engine is running and has no problems I can’t say I’d be stripping it all down but yeah it’s definitely a large upgrade. You’ll need a turbo, injectors, gearbox, a few other bits to up the power of the twinscroll though. But at least you already have a good intake manifold and top feeds
@@InitialB cheers mate, I'll admit I'm a bit clueless but I'm learning slowly but surely.
Nice video. What would an EJ207 stroked to 2.1 do lbft and BHP wise?
This engine was built for 550, but only because of the studs, people have run 2.1s at 600 fairly often. I guess as with anything, it depends how long you want it to run that power and for what application.
As for lbft, mine made 400lbft and 400bhp on a smallish turbo and too small injectors.
what are the gains of a 2.1 stroker from a 2.0 with all things equal?
A tad better spool from the increased capacity. And that you can still buy this crank brand new from Subaru capable of 1000bhp. You mights as well.
Was that up to 600hp Andy said in this?😮
Yeah but the heads will struggle at that. But it’ll handle it
@@InitialB how will your drive train hold up to 600? From my research these cars are designed for like 300 max befor you start crippling your own car from tourqe.
@@coreyblitz2000 I’m going for 400bhp and 380ish lbft torque. Yeah the old 752 gearbox is good for 300bhp and the newer 5 speed 754s are usually ok for 350…. So we shall see.
@@InitialB hell yea, sounds awasome
I can stomach 3 grand 😩
Hard investment to make on anything isn’t it
