Gigachad Frieren is my favorite Frieren!
Lol Gigafrieren
That wasn’t a fight, that was a pure violation 😂
I have never seen a demon get so thoroughly screwed outside of a hentai.
Ayo? Sauce?
💀
“You’re hiding your magical energy? That’s cheating!” Saids the demon that only knows how to lie and deceive people.
Hypocrisy runs in their veins 🤣
They know that accusing people of cheating will often get them to stop. I'm not convinced that they even know what "cheating" is.
@@jamespryor5967 not a bad shout. Although you would think they know the meaning but I could be wrong and they're just spouting nonsence again
@@jamespryor5967the demon in frieren just as the anime explained really take their pride with their mana/magic technique... So he screaming cheating.. is probably genuine anger. Like you just do honest regular 4 hours study your whole life but got beaten by someone who find loophole for better studying lol... Ironic.. only in magic those demon did honest work/training
Aura: "I'm a greater demon who has lived over 500 years."
Frieren: "You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers "
A prime example of telling a lot with a little. A truly great series this is.
I loved that we were given a perfect explanation for Frieren's reluctance to fame, to use her name around, to reveal her past and most importantly to reveal her age. That low profile is all for the sake of killing demons. Doomguy has nothing on Frieren
Also, this was the PERFECT fight for all those 1000 years of training. Theres's simply no better set of circumstances for her ability to pay off. Aura met her Nemesis.
Now that the cat is out of the bag : if you go bask to prior episodes, your view of Frieren's personality and actions may change. For instance : for the other members of the party, defeating the demon king was a ten year journey. For her ? It took one thousand years. A "mere ten years" indeed...
Frieren to Aura..."get off b*tch. You no one. I'm going to eat pudding". Savage.
Talking seriously, Keiichirou Saitou, the director, is on fire. This dude!!!. Is the second credit as a director and both shows are a masterpiece, Bocchi and Frieren.
Pure cinema.
The anime direction is great but is a direction that completes the one of the manga. While for Bocchi, he had total adaptation liberty for the manga structure (4 koma, which are 4 panel for page), for Frieren is exactly the same scenes but just better in animation and voice acting.
@@il3fortunato664 Which just proves he can do both, dude has mad talent.
The use of the flashback to show Frieren’s development through Flamme’s teachings was really used well. Her time with Flamme shaped not only her skill and technique but her world view. It was cool to see how she grew stronger and honed her mana suppression over the years. Himmel wasn’t fooled. Great episode.
Himmel is really showing why he’s HIMmel
@@mr.raphael1507 It's HIM alright
The thing I appreciate most about Frieren is its pacing, and how it doesn't treat its audience as dumb. They trust you to make connections all the time - why frieren values the flower spell/the sour grapes spell, that fern was handed down the teachings from flamme without needing to say it, etc. It's such a satisfying watch, but it also makes it extremely hard to resist reading the manga when it comes time to wait a week 😅
What i like most about this episode is how auras face gradually starts to panic. It subtle at first but damn, they really nailed it. You could literally feel how worried she was that she made a mistake
We all knew Frieren was gonna get the W, but the way this episode tied it all together through flashbacks with an emphasis on character growth and strategy was what keeps me watching this series week in and week out. Don't get me wrong, I love a standard battle shounen fare, but I prefer an approach like this.
It seems so obvious after the fact, but it didn't even occur to me that Frieren's default state was suppression.
Also I love how she commanded Aura to off herself, just a middle finger to demon pride.
Thinking back to a few episodes ago, when frieren told that demon that she was stronger than Aura, she was simply being honest, because she knew that she was gonna make short work of him. But we as the audience at that time didn't realize that Aura didn't know that fact as well.😅
Like Flamm and Frieren have said... Demons are too cocky with their mana that they just want to show off their strength against others. But there's a counter to tricking the demons into thinking your weak and that's how Aura and the other mages who went up against Frieren perished.
Aura was boasting about being an accomplished mage for 500 years and Frieren was like bitch I got a 1000 years of training under me as the scales tipped in her favour.
And you can see the sphere of mana she has. It's basically the size of the damn moon at this point.
The use of flashbacks with Flamm were amazingly executed. I thought it would distract us from the fight but that wasn't even a fight at the end. It just was a causal beating of a demon who's ego was bigger than the Eiffel tower.
Without Flamme's guidance Frieren wouldn't be the mage she is now and it just shows great character from Flamm and Frieren to take on her teachings and pass it on to Fern for example.
And even when she reffered to herself as a mediocre mage to the heros, Himmel knew she was a special one. And a gut feeling is never wrong.
Outstanding episode and while I loved the fight sequences last episode this episode was probably better than that one and that's a surprise to me at least but leave it to Frieren to knock out socks off each week.
Great review Brandon. I'm excited for more Frieren next week.
And she was already the strongest elf of her village before her training. She is a monster haha
That was by far the biggest mic drop an MC has ever made and Im here for it.
What I love is connecting the dots around the flower spell. I brought so much more meaning to when she makes the flower patch for Himmel's statue. Everything is so well connected. Wonderful
Man Frieren really was the badass goat in this episode. In like how she did tell Aura to kill herself before just walking away. Like I loved how we focused on Aura’s expression from being confident that she had the victory in her bag. To then her being nervous that Frieren might not be what she first thought. And lastly how she panicked when she know that she f_cked up, and even cried. This is my favorite moment in any show for a couple of years that I have seen.
But then I also loved how we got to see Frieren backstory and more of Flamme. Like we finally saw how powerful she truly was. But her true power did not come from how much mana she did but how she played her cards. By appearing a weakling and then at a moment notice can just vaporize her opponents. And I love how she did taught Frieren that to truly beat as many demons as possible. You need to play their own game better then them. Meaning that you need to deceive them before they can deceive you. This also tells us why she also trained Fern, as Fern already was a natural at deceiving her mana. So making her into a demon killing machine would have been the logical choice. Also loved the comparison between how demon recognize power with mana to how humans does the same with wealth
I love how this episode has Frieren going from loving magic to "sort of liking" it, calling back to earlier with Fern. With the dramatic shift in Frieren's life from whoever she was in her Elven village into a mage who exists solely to deceive and kill demons her attitudes surrounding magic changed with it. Flamme wishing for her to learn flowerbed magic ostensibly to decorate her grave indicates Flamme's unstated hope that Frieren will rekindle her love for magic -- but, as usual for Frieren she's not emotionally aware enough to read the deeper motivations of those around her.
This episode was amazing. The music, the visuals were beautiful to rewatch, and Frieren was a savage to do that to aura. This proves Madhouse was chosen by the gods to animate this masterpiece.
What makes the battle between Frieren and Aura so satisfying despite being so short, lacking in action like the previous episode, is due to the buildup towards the end. The time Frieren has spent training to suppress her immense power in seclusion, the explanation on how demons show of their power much like how humans show of their own authority within their society.... The moment Aura misjudged her opponent and placed their souls on the scale the battle was over.
One of my favorite parts of this episode is how after Flamme's death, a thousand years pass, then Himmel convinces Frieren to join his party, and right after that, in a hundredth of the time it took to animated the 1000 years, the 10 year adventure passes in a flash. And despite that, it contained more important experiences that this whole millenium. That's beautiful.
Flamme came up with a build that lets you use sneak attack dice with every magic spell. Hacks.
I have always thought that when you have people that put tactical thinking into their writing, it sometimes means that they have had certain experiences in their lives, or a different sort of world outlook. I was hoping for bombastic fighting but was not remotely disappointed by the duel that was not really a duel :D
the scene where Flamme tells Frieren she will defeat the demons with her tricking them gave me goosebumps with the background music hyping it, chills just chills
Bro that descending cello notation in the music in that scene was amazing. With the shadows of the laundry covering Frieren and flame at the same time!!!!!…..chefs kiss . This shit is fucking ART
I've watched a lot of anime in my 50 plus years on this Earth. Got both my kids and their friends watching anime but with that being said, this anime is so satisfying to watch. Perfect ending to an episode. 10/10. A must see anime for "All" anime watchers. ✌️
Also the complete disdain Freiren has shown this last 4 chapters is incredible, usually a Hero doesn't have this amount of Vitriol, but Freiren openly shows a cold bloodlust when it comes to demons
Having Flamme show up in just a few scenes later already wrinkled and old really drive home the story's message here. Human beings are so limited by time that even a genius like Flamme will have to succumb to death at a fraction of Frieren's age, but that's okay as long as there are others who will carry on their will. Flamme got by through life concealing her mana, not standing out because she knew that she will never obtain enough power to destroy the demon king in her lifetime. Attracting unneeded attention from the demons to herself would have been unwise. Instead she entrust that mission to Frieren, an elf. They're possibly the biggest threat to the demons' existence, which is why I think the demons targeted the elven village in the first place.
Not just Frieren. All of the major barriers in the cities that we've seen were created by Flamme's magic and entrusted to the local humans.
@@aagraff603 sure, Flamme also helped her fellow humans here and there while keeping a low enough profile, but I'm specifically talking about defeating the demon king. Frieren's meeting with Himmel and his party was.... predetermined in a way that I won't spoil right now. Flamme was deliberately preparing Frieren for that journey.
Kinda spoiler but :
There's this one of the seven sage of destruction the Omniscient Schlacht where his power are able to see the future even up to thousand years and the many possibilities. So maybe he's the one who gives the idea of killing all elf to demon king because of the future he saw where Frieren kill demon king.
I was never so spoilered about what was gona happen in the big fight, because the show literally spent 20 mins telling me exactly what was gona happen - yet also i was seldom ao satisfied by seeing play out exactly what i was told was gona happen.
I love how they balanced the flashbacks and present moments. Also, killing demons in Frieren is like killing goblins in Goblin Slayer since it's just pest control when you look at it. There's no point in using honor to fight either of them.
Step 1: Get Aura to use the scales.
Step 2: Get Aura to enter Frieren's mana field.
Step 3: Overpower Aura's mana field.
...
Step 4: Chad move and walk away.
It was awesome to see Frieren's mana envelope Aura too, Aura got way too ahead of herself and she paid a dire price, it must have been dreadful to not have control of your own body and being the one to end your life. Never understame your openen which seems like common thing for demons.
Episode 9 was a 10/10 for me a real banger. The fight choregraaphy and most of all animation was top tier.
Yet this episode managed to be as good as ep9 without barely aany fight. The narration and dirrection and the (huge?) Hunter X Hunter "Nen" vibe & strategy also made it another 10/10 banger.
So far the story of this anime but also the amount of love and work from Madhouse aanimators on it are insanely insane.
def one of the best animes we have gotten in the last 10 years.. this is over all a good story
Another great episode of Frieren imho. In many other series, Aura would have gotten away and been saved to get killed off for the climax of the season but Frieren just did a flashback and then got rid of her--while risky, I give the series major props for that and hope the series can continue to excel for the rest of its run. Also, credit to the storyboard artist and Director for including the shot of Flamme's mana explosion going off from far away and then cutting back to see the huge crater--very nicely drawn indeed.
It's nice that we dive in more of Frieren's past with her master this episode.
Frieren decided to let the kids have the epic fight scene and went with a tactical "win without fighting" approach.
This show is definitely my anime of the year at this point. This is what we want as the audience, great story, amazing charectors, immersive world and just s-class animation to boot. Friren is amazing in all the possible ways, not to mention the story is just so brilliant 🎉🎉🎉
Heh. You arent wrong. It was pretty great
thanks bro for the reflection on the episode :) I needed to hear someone else gush about the episode after watching such genius.
The brilliance of that simple strategy is that The stronger the demon is the harder they will fall for it.
Solid episode, loved everything about it. Just wanted to mention the last spell that Flamme taught Frieren is her most used throughout the show. Makes me think thats what peaked her interests in odd spells. In this way she maintains her masters legacy
The very best part of the episode is that the Ending song starts with "Are you alright?" ... I can't ... it's so serious but I can't do anything but laugh XD
This show has been some of the best anime I’ve EVER consumed. It’s just so well done man!! Everyone that worked on this should be very proud.
Frieren is just so calm all the time. She plays the long play.
To me, the best part of what we saw in this episode wasn't even IN this episode. Remember way back, in episode 2, when Frieren first saw Fern train, and Fern said "So even you have difficulty sensing me. Heiter-sama says I'm almost invisible." And then: "That's a good thing, right?"
In this episode's flash back we see that Heiter was initially fooled by Frieren's suppressed mana, but he must have realized the truth at some point, when they fought the Demon King if not before. And the idea that not only had he understood what she was doing, but enough of her reasons and outlook, that three quarters of a century later, that would be the FIRST thing he'd teach his little orphan mage... Somehow, I feel like that's a greater expression of his friendship with Frieren than anything else we've seen.
This was a very well crafted episode, with the flashbacks enhancing the story / reveal in the most satisfying way.
I also found the heroes flashback to be genius writing - another sign that Himmel was instinctive in his assessment of people, just like Frieren and Flamme.
It was in that moment Aura knew she f**ked up. 🔥
This episode was the one that made me lose my mind for this anime. Awesome
Watching this episode make me wonder the Demon King had to wiped out the Elves before going after the Humans. Thousands years of life spans with connection to magic.
Make me wonder that was the very "last" elf village that Frieren tried to defend. Leaving only lonely elf wanderers facing extinction. Himmel and his hero party more amazing than you realized
Aura: "I'm better than you."
Frieren: "kys kthx gbye"
Dude this show is so good I would not be surprised if Hollywood tried to bitcher it.
I love how Flamme said that Frieren shouldn't made her name famous and live in modesty. Because what happened Frieren's name became famous after they deeated the Demon King, it was 80 years ago. That was Aura also thought that she was just living a 100 years or so. So that's why she easily defeated because she doesn't have any idea that Frieren lives a thousand years or more.
I had been eagerly anticipating this episode ever since I read it in the manga. This did not disappoint. Absolutely perfect!
frieren watched jjk yesterday and thought "touji? sukuna? imma show you, who is really her".
I just watched ep 10, and I'm still feeling it. This one hit the mark. Loved it.
Naruto Series: - "So THATS how you do a good flashback..."
Okay, this show is now considered a master piece for me. It joins made in abyss and mushoku tensei. That fight, if you want to call it that was beautiful.
Remember in 6 ep Frieren said how she did not like all this "fame and glory" thing...Well, here the reason why - she live her whole life trying to leave as small information about her as possible, while now when her name is famous - Demons would be prepared
There are no wasted moments in this show. I remember when Frieren was drawing circles around the kid Fern. Now I understand she was teaching her to hide her mana.
From scene 1, from when Frieren asked Flamme if it's fair, to the final scene Flammed telling Frieren to use mana to deceive, is one continuity. A total set up. The best kind of exposition ever. This is how say but didn't show. More thrilling than most action.
The slow music buildup of that entire continuity with the crescendo as flame tells her to deceive with mana is just ……ughhhh it’s so good!!!
There's a lot of great anime episodes out there. Some anime episodes I consider as some of the best things in fiction (like Gintama 305/Aria S3 Ep9/Steins Gate Ep 22), but even then. I can probably count the amount of times an anime episode has ACTUALLY left me speechless on one hand. And the way this episode showcased its developments and further deepens Frieren's - and her master's - character even more, topped off with that insanely badass scene of Frieren finally releasing her mana and taking control over Aura, has certainly made its way to that one hand.
I think I just witnessed one of the best episodes of anything I've ever seen.
I've entertained the thought ever since pondering about last week's episode in the last few days, but as of right now, Frieren has officially entered my top 10 anime, and at the highest rank that doesn't have a full full 10/10 (100/100) to it, at that.
(As a rule of thumb, I don't give anything that isn't a finished story - or a story, that even if it continues further, stops its anime at a point where it very well COULD be the actual end of it all - a full score and cap it at a 9.5/10. This one is a 9.75/10.)
This episode was incredible. Blew me away. That's how someone that's so much more powerful than someone else takes out the weaker one.
This episode reminded me a lot of Claymore. ❤
Frieren really pulled an LTG on Aura
'Savage' doesn't even begin to describe her
Yes. I love me a good "how does it feel, put@?" moment in a series; when a badass character gives a taste of their own medicine to a deserving P.O.S. And we started with Fern doing that to Lügner.
Now, Aura may have been polishing her magic to force obedience on others for 500 years, but Frieren has been polishing her magical deception for more than a Frikin' Millennium.
This episode reminds me of a certain swordmaster from a certain novel:
He is a knighted noble (meaning: a commoner soldier who distinguished himself on the battlefield and got peerage as a reward). He is tasked to train the children of nobility in court fencing, with all its rules and etiquette and penalties about dishonourable conduct. But then he gets to train a commoner boy with promising talent, and to him he says "You, on the other hand, are going to learn How To Kill With A Blade".
If your goal is to murder an entire race of amoral deceivers, what the hell are you worrying about fighting dirty when facing yer mortal enemy/the object of your vengeance?
Just do like Frieren: Make them lower their guard, crush them with overwhelming strength, and don't look back.
Frieren Episode 10 is 10/10 will recommend.
PD: The novel in question is "The Lies of Locke Lamora", a great novel precisely about the power of deception. And the sword master and promising apprentice who is going to learn how to kill with a sword are Don Maranzalla (the sword master), and Jean Tannen (the promising apprentice).
Before she was called Friren the slayer now she is Friren the Savage just telling her enemies to unlived themselves
They double tricked me with about the power levels lol
Frieren mastered to supress her mana within a span of hundreds of years, and Fern mastered it in 8 years 😎 (since she met Frieren) (and yes its not on the same level as Frieren but still)
pretty sure they wanna go the same route of student surpassing master like Frieren did to Flamme
@@AHBrandonReviews and i also love Fern getting very similar to Frieren like her monotone voice and her cold face after all those 8 years they spent together
Fern already unconsciously had highly suppressed mana when Frieren met her. To the point that Frieren had a hard time detecting her.
@@Sinderance_ ohhh good point, completly forgot about that
@@jsweety but the demon was able to detect Fern's suppression, but not even Aura could detect Frieren's.
If you run into a unknown great demon, run. Because the only reason it is unknown is because everyone who knows it is dead...
Keeps getting Good
Another amazing episode. 🙂👍
great episode
aura got played by frieren
bro this reminds me of iconic HxH ep. 131... unforgettable anime episode, sheeshh....
What a episode
Frieren is a monster and probably worse than the demons. This is very much nature vs nurture where the demon race are naturally taken evil actions from our moral view point but Frieren has been turned into a weapon of war and is doing the same training that Flamme did with her to Fern. Yeah it was an amazing scene when she took out Aura but it was chilling how cold and dispassionate Frieren is. I may need to read ahead but the Elfs in this world may have been targeted by Demons for a reason
I’m guessing they were targeted because they have such king life spans that if someone was going to come along that could kill the demon lord it would likely be an elf since they can raise their mana over such a long lifetime . Thts why flame had Frieren live in obscurity for so long to keep a low profile so she wouldn’t be targeted by them until she was ready to finish the job.
Yup this eps definitely special one
"Fighting fire with lava"
ACEEEEEEEEEE
Best boss fight
JJK yesterday and this today I am not worthy of such peak
Frieren is so good. I don't know who's the director but he definitely knows what's he's doing.
myanimelist.net/people/50900/Keiichirou_Saitou
Frieren, the gigachad who has been grinding for over a thousand years
This is one of my most waited scene in the anime for almost 2-3 weeks due to how epic that scene is in the manga
And madhouse nailed it so hard that honestly it ruins my definition of a perfect episode. I'm sure it will still exceed (its still gonna be frieren anyway). Like man, even the ed song is a perfection. Asking are you alright after aura getting French'ed💀
But yeah, if this kind of quality continues, this anime is gonna be a classic.
Quality dips in the middle aside it was a great episode!
Frieren the Slayer, slayed without slaying.
Gojo vs frieren
Gojo: you are weak lmao
Frieren: KYS *Walks away*
JJK fans: MOMMY!!!! She cheated
Frieren doesn’t give off anything…….ever……except when it comes to the death of her friends. Don’t F with her.😂. I now look forward to each new episode more than any other anime and I love JJK.
Flamme was the best teacher than Frieren could have ask for 🔥
That idea of making your mana look low by restrain it all your life was pure genius 😱
Frieren didn't beat Aura, she just make her kill herself and leave without elaborate 🤣
This episode was definitely the one I liked the most so far 🔥👀
aura had the wrong assumptions on frieren. she thinks she's only 80+ years old and only knew about her due to her participation in the party that defeated the demon lord. she thinks she's better than her because she's 500 years old perfecting her craft. even though she thinks frieren is suppressing her mana, she wouldn't be proficient with it.
She thinks this also because Frieren herself learned to hidden her mana and literally hid herself on thousands of history of humanity. And even if a demon knows about how old and strong she is... didn't even lived longer to spread the voice.
I wish Marvel writers learn with animes how you show a strong female character who is feminine, cute and absolutely gangsta at the same time. 😅
Great great episode, for sure.
But I liked the last one better.
Obs: the best animation is on the dragon episode (humble opinion)
The flashback was the fight.
Frieren anime is the perfect way to do revival fantasy isekai...
But i think you miss the point, in your title at least. A perfect episode would be a stand alone episode by definition, something you can enjoy without context, without background, just trough discovering it and having the whole...
Frieren has a perfect build up for the whole series, and a continuity of great episodes / peak moments, from all departments (music, characters, animation...).
But in fact, this episode is "perfect" because of every other(s) before, because it's really well written and developed, based on the emotion growing up, and character development.
Do you "play fair" when removing a wasps' nest?
I love the portrayal of demons in this show.. and how the main characters rightly treat them.
Her revealing her power would have hit Aura like the ending to the Usual Suspects, lol.
The hunter has become the hunted.
It's not just Frieren and Flamme. Fern was doing it too. That's why Lugner got so angry at her before she finished him off.
I know
Flamme being Human blew my mind. Fieren is the GOAT. How much mana was she showing to Heiter? 2% or 10%. I would have to read a book to find out. So don't tell me.
It wasn’t a battle, it was an Execution.
