The perfect chill episode after all the insanity but I really wanted Kraft to stick around he's so good! See my full uncut live reaction to the episode over on Patreon www.patreon.com/BrandonReviews
Kraft calling Frieren young, really shows how life is all about perspective.
Yeah frieren is also immature compared to Kraft
What makes Frieren's respect even more interesting is that , in order to not damage them, she had to take more risks. She played the Aura fight in challenge mode : "do not damage any soldier"... Even better : she probably created the dispel spell she used in the last 80 years just in case she would ever find herself again fighting animated cadavers she would like to show respect to.
What I really love about this series are the little details that are shown, specially the not-verbal ones.
A thing that got my atention was that in the second half when they are seated in the cabin praying before eating, shows Frieren just eating in 2 of the cuts, not waiting for them... but in the 3rd cut, she is praying too.
Even when she doesn't believe in gods, she starts showing respect for her companions.
I thought it was sweet that Granat said he had never been so grateful as he was to Frieren after seeing his son's pendant and how Frieren hadn't damaged all the armor/corpses Aura had been controlling. I was a little surprised they spent another 6 months there though.
I still can't fathom how Frieren is this good. I honestly can't think of a single bad... frame in all this. It's almost frustrating that there is nothing wrong with this entire anime.
Honestly, I already read the Manga, but I never expected the Anime to be THAT good.
it's now clearly my favourite Anime of all time.
As a manga reader... oh boy you'll prolly love this series more with this next arc. More lowkie god tier Frieren
The thing that makes the scene with Stark waking up in Kraft's arm even better is that in middle of him looking around he actually closes his eyes as if it's all just a dream/his imagination, then opens them back up to double check, and only then does he freak out. Like, it's a small detail but makes it so much more hilarious than if it was just Stark looking back and forth between Kraft's arm and face.
This episode was pretty great, I loved the OST and the montage. Of them staying in the town after defeating the demons for months. Also like the great detail they gave to those amours. And how people showed their respect by praying there. Interesting that we got to see another elf in this episode. And an monk which was unexpected, but I liked it. But what I really liked to see was how the relationship between Stark and Fern continues to grows.
Also loved how they once again showed the time perspective that elves do have. Like how Frieren was annoyed that there was yet another certification that a mage got to do. As 50 year is a pretty short time for an elf
Wouldn't you get upset too if the university degree you get in your 20s become out-of-date when you are 70s, and you have to re-certify again just to collect your pension? :)
im 100% on boat with you i love this series and anticipate it to go down as one of my top favorites of all time.
i think one aspect of why that is is because Frieren’s worldbuilding deserves some of the highest compliments i can give to a fantasy story in the anime medium. Frieren as a series focuses so much on the simple and the subtle, not just with its story and characters but in describing the world and its history.
im happy they set up rules that are more or less just followed through and through. im happy that while magic as a focus is shown to have a wide variety of applications, it cant just do anything and everything. im happy that some problems just cant be solved with inventing some random magic for plot convenience.
the series just does so much to create such a highly well thought of universe for such an awesome story to take place in, and the show really highlights that and elevates it with good animation and sound design.
Evan Call is a god.
That soundtrack at the beginning with Frieren praying for the dead soldiers and continuing on after the OP with the count was awe inspiring
Stark‘s reaction to the guy coming in with a axe thinking hes gonna be executed is such a mood xD
Frieren talking about the „frequent changes“ being a hassle for her almost hurts me personally: I work in the field of taxes and there’s literally tons of new sht and changes every single year xD
More German trivia:
Äußerst = outermost
Schwer = Heavy (or difficult depending on context)
Decke = ceiling (or blanket)
Kraft = Strength/power
The humor in this episode was on point. Especially that giant jumbo special with Eisen on the side xD
I’m glad we got an episode like this after the last two ^^
I love how much detail goes into an episode like this, and the little montage in the hut with one after the other starting to pray before eating the food was such a nice touch, with Frieren obviously being the last to join in ^^
Or just that little scene of Fern almost slipping from the roof and Stark catching her…
Man, I was just gonna say how much Kraft‘s view on the goddess reminds me of what Heiter said in an earlier episode with Heaven existing or not, and then they pull out that flashback…
Way to tug on my heartstrings, show…
I start to understand why elves are dying out it has been 300 years since he as seen an elf, he spends 6 months with Frieren and that is what the got
Obne of those shows I anticipate to watch every week. Havent been this glued to a show in years
The whole slow pace that the show takes is really refreshing.
Last episode I ran across a comment of how Frieren's fight with Aura was boring, and how she was fighting was stupid because she could have atomized Aura with a single spell. I responded with the sentiment of "She fought that way because she didn't want to desecrate the bodies." This episode pretty much pays that off in full, where all the fallen can get a proper burial; and because they suffered so little damage they could also be identified, and their loved ones be able to have proper closure.
Stark really believed he was going to be executed. I think Fern secretly liked that Stark said she smelled nice.
Fern is secretly a tsundere?
I swear the anime season isn’t perfect for me until I hear Koyasu pop up randomly. I hope Kraft is a returning character.
He never appeared in manga again (so far)
@@mrplushowy8458 you probably skipped then :V
How the hell do they keep making such good episodes even when they are supposed to be considered slow.
Like they even introduce a new character which I thought was gonna be a new party member and they were a good group of companies while they seeked refuge in that small cabin in winter time.
I loved Stark's reactions to the man who looked like the executioner back at the castle. Like that shit was hilarious because he spoke out of line when he was saving the Lord.
And even in the cabin he needed a few minutes to realise he was sleeping on Kraft's arm.
And the first reaction was wow he's got some muscle.
😂
The soundtrack is absolutely amazing. Got to hand it to Evan Call. He knows how to make a good ass soundtrack. Kevin Penkin and him are some of the best in the Industry.
Unbelievable. But I'm so sad when an episode ends because I was getting so immersed into the world and our characters that I could watch for days.
Great review Brandon and I agree, we can all here sing the praises of how good this show is and it's definitely gonna be up there in terms of the best anime we've experienced.
Stark's new trauma -> woodcutters ^_^;;;
The flashback with Heiter highlighted a major connection between Freiren and Fern. Fern's mana suppression originated from Freiren, since Freiren told Heiter about it. And Heiter jokingly said if one day his has a daughter who becomes a mage it might come in handy.
I’ve been watching anime since the 80’s and this is one best anime I’ve watched.
Dio äh dito.
This is a transition episode where we tied up all the bows in Granat's Town to a freaking milet insert song!!!! A. milet. Insert. Song.
And we get a surprise Koyasu role filled with mirth, kindness, and just that right amount of sass?
Talk about a feast!
The elf shouldn’t be the 4th member , so far both of her new companions are the next gen of her original hero party the next member should also be one
For me, the most impressive part about this stellar anime is how it feels... detached.
It's almost as if the moment the episode begins everything else just gets the volume turned down and those 25 minutes or so just go in a flash. It's like "blink" and all this stuff just happened, they had fun, Stark got scared of the axe man and had a buff pillow, and Frieren got to rekindle another memory with the Hero's Party.
Seriously, that dreamlike quality of the story is so unique. And I love this series for it.
I can't wait to binge the whole thing when the time comes. I can easily do 50 episodes or more. Hell, I can marathon it like I did with the original Legend of the Galactic Heroes because it is that good.
And if you are gushing about Frieren in seasons to come while we wait for the next batch of episodes, I'll make a point of adding a comment of "(time stamp) damn straight, Frieren is the GOAT" every time you do (that I catch). I promise.
It’s also incredible seeing time flies at the beginning of the every episode reminding us how many years has it been since himmel death
After watching the latest JJK episode, I’m glad I decided to watch this afterward.
The pacing and characters and introduction of Kraft, if for just a brief moment, was so refreshing.
Just got done with the episode-great timing! I love Frieren- it’s so heartwarming, even if the overall premise is kind of sad. Also, who wants to guess the new elf guy will show back up in less than a few centuries like he predicted?
I absolutely loved this episode 😳 All the landscapes and backgrounds were so detailed and beautiful 😍
Stark waking up on Kraft's massive arm was so goddamn hilarious 🤣
I think Kraft is probably one of my character of Frieren now 😂
Honestly as much as I love the amazing actions scene. It's how deep and interesting the journey of Frieren, Fern and Stark that I like the most 🤗
Not gonna take back that it is definitely my favourite Fantasy type show since many years 😎🔥
The only thing that jumped out at me was who was Kraft really? and what did he do in the past? Insert mandatory "Who is your Daddy and what does he do" Kindergarten Cop meme.
probably what Frieren did but more of that and has been forgotten about as the years press on similar to what will happen to her one day. they both outlive their legacy forgotten by time

Eventually there’ll be a village with statue of Kraft as a Warrior and a human Priest(no one remembers who they were), with the implication that his dead party member inspired him to become religious
She finally found an alpha chad elf male, and turned him down. The elf race is clearly doomed to extinction.
???
The only male alpha that she need is himell 🗣
What sets this show apart, or rather, each episode apart, is that every single character and detail is important in some way. Be it for advancing the plot, or characterisation, even a silly gag.
Not many shows achieve this.
This was a good episode imho, still very enjoyable but a lot more chill than the previous recent episodes. I'm not sure whether Kraft would ever be interested in Frieren more than as a friend since he is a monk, but I agree he might make a good addition to the party. Also, I'm not sure if Frieren ended up learning Flamme's spell to raise a defensive barrier but I would not be surprised if it becomes a kind of Chekov's gun going forward.
If we are lucky we will get to see another elf in next ep
Frieren is a masterpiece.
you will always have this kind of episode in the future after each arc.
Thanks for the review it's perfect 👌🏻
This episode came down from the hype but hinted that a magic test is coming in the future. good stuff.
I was so pissed off when zaddeh Kraft left huhu
a monk would balance out the party well
This show and the apothecary are putting all my old favorites with their season 2s right now to shame.
I still love the older shows.. just seeing them side by side I can see the quality and writing put ibti these two new ones is a step higher.
For me, right now, I can't give up either. They are tied for top 10.
I feel like thats the point of the episode. To show that there are cool people who meet randomly but never see again. We have to say Good bye.
FYI both Frieren & Jujutsu's crazy episode of last week got beaten by Ragna Crimson's also crazy episode on anime corner votes and is currently top 1 !
I wonder if you're still watching the show in the shadow, but its popularity is really increasing, it keeps getting better, the seiyuus are doing a fantastic job & the studio Silver Link along with the mangaka are active on it. Seeing it topping the charts might be surprising considering Frieren & Jujutsu are way bigger but not quite that surprising as those three shows really had hands down the three best episodes of last week.
Ofc doesn't mean its better and I think Frieren & Jujutsu are better with more eengagement and my favs over it but hey somewhere despite the usual bias popularity over animation there's legit ten thousands of people who think its as worth as those two big shows.
Despite no "top-tier sakuga animation" Silver Link so far is consistent & adapting it well, told ya it might be the hidden banger of the season.
2:58 what did you just say!!
*spoiler*
even in the manga he's practically unheard again
EDIT: He's actually reappears again in chapter 34 and 37, and never again since
Dio left JoJo’s and became an elf 😂
I don't know about Kraft man... he's older than Frieren. He wasn't always a believer, and now is to have someone see his good deeds. Makes me think he might not have been such a good guy in the past. He might turn out to be a future antagonist?
no it's very clear he did exactly what Frieren did but has been forgotten over time
@@AHBrandonReviews A hero turned villain is what I mean to say. Elves live such long lives that they could play both roles depending on their outlook on the world.
Crazy episode huh 😅
Agreed... best anime of the year.
Brandon is Canadian.
Frieren wasn't interested in Kraft Dinner.
lel
Tbh walking into the show I originally thought it would be another party of 4 like the original party but I guess not lol😅
As they're wrestling with the existential reality of their eventual deaths, maybe they'll draw the connection to being remembered with the concept of progeny. Mama Frieren?
...why didn't they wait in the city for the winter to be over?
Because time
I guess they wanted to go through the mountain before the winter does set in? But they ended up being too late, and got caught in the Blizzard.
Hi
Is he hero of the south?
Nope.
Manga reader spoiler: A monk joining the party? Yep. But it ain't Kraft. Just sayin'... just Sein.
I hope the two elves found some time in the 6 months to have some alone time from the kids and save their species
I don’t think she’s quite old enough yet…
Hell no 💀himell is the only one for her
@blazenitrozeus5721 Himmel is six feet under, and I don't subscribe to the idea that age is just a number, so I would be against the necrophilia. Additionally, marriage is til death do we part, usually, I don't think what you're suggesting is acceptable in my book.
@@dl2839 i got spoil by tik tok that she got back in the time dont know how that happen but yeah and aslo i dont think that frieren would see anybody romanticly other then himell
@@nephtys369 Nah,she is definitely old enough, but she has no attraction towards him.
Spoiler
How you feel about kraft in this episode is how I feel about another character we'll meet soon.
In my opinion this was a good episode. Making it the worst episode of this anime so far
In my opinion it's arguably one of the best😅(reason-Great Opening scores, Great humour, frieren gradually becoming more benevolent through remembering good past experiences, new character edition, that also an elf!)
The elf dude is like: Frieren, you are too young... you will know more when you grow older.
I bet he is the dude that beat the previous demon king, but it was so long ago, nobody remembers him.
I don’t think it’s the demon king since demon only becomes organized in the last 1000 years or so.
Spoiler
Black in flamme days human were a lot more influential and then the largest empire was decimated to only 1/3 of its original influence.
