the weird Vtuber anime thing you and a few youtubers are doing is really terrible and cringe, even though i enjoyed your script. That cringey avatar thing completely spoils the emotional delivery of your feelings on the story, whenever it appears.
I find the Hero Himmel one of the best attitude guys ever. His attitude was like "OK, the Hero of the south ,the GOAT of the human race is dead to this demon lord, we probably won't live either... so Let's have fun with it! Let's make this last journey awesome so we can go out from this world in peace. And If we die, we died in service to a great cause, so no downsides!" They did what most Hero Parties never do: They helped literally everyone in every town they came across. They did all the dirty little jobs that most won't touch. That is why they're remembered personally by so many people 80 yrs later. We see this in countless small villages, like the one where Qual is sealed with the little boy who flipped up her skirt...now is the mayor. And the Grandfather of the Castilian of the walled city at war with Aura the demon, being personally saved by Himmel and Frieren. They touched thousands on a personal level, face to face. So Himmel's death was a huge deal because he was far more than a hero who just killed the demon lord and a couple of the top officers; He was a hero who literally helped any and everyone he could.
One of my favorite things about Himmel is how he literally went "bet" when he was told he's a fake hero with his fake sword. Then he tried to pull the real one, failed, but still went on to save the world anyway with that fake sword, and became a real hero. He really defied fate and I love that.
Himmels character, and all of them tbh, are so genuine. True good, and true evil, both with flaws. But we're so use to the big things in anime nowadays, huge twists and betrayals, I kept waiting for Fern to show negative signs, a dark secret about Himmel to be revealed, even for a demon to turn out shockingly good. But all these characters are just what they show us to be, flaws and tension still good and all out in the open, but no deep secrets, just fun and adventures.
@@cheyennemoran1937 So true. Frieren is honestly such a refreshing fantasy. You see so much fantasy/isekai these days that have no heart and are just about fanservice and harem bs and I'm sick of it.
Himmel is not vain, he loved Frieren and want to be there for her when ever she needed him for the rest of her life the only way for him to do that was to have statues made. No one was going to remember Himmel as an old man The statues would be how he and the others would be remembered for all time. Himmel did this not for himself but for a woman he loved who could not love him today but maybe tomorrow when that time came he wanted to be there for her in the only way he could
He's vain, but not in a bad way. He looks in the mirror and sees the good looking guy looking back at him. He's self aware and plays it up as his brand of humor. It's his other virtues alongside his self awareness that make his vanity such a miniscule part of his identity. He's kind, caring, brave, wise, and every bit the virtuous hero deserving of praise. The statues are the perfect example of his personality. He's vain enough that he'll go through retakes to get his handsomeness perfect, even keeping the sculptor for up to 10-12 hours; but it's actually more important that he wants frieren to have company when they're dead and not fade away into legend like flamme; or obscurity like kraft.
@@3XZDgg I was accidentally spoiled about a future call back to the adventure and honestly Himmel really is the most worthy of being called a hero and friend.
In this world of magic, curses, and miracles, Himmel probably could’ve found a way to be with her forever. Or at least, created a potion or spell that would him be beside her for as long as her life span. However long that would be. But, his love for her, even if she wouldn’t have felt it until she’d was close to dying, would probably feel… lesser. Death is what gives life meaning. How could Firern understand and appreciate that, when Himmel is still around. In spirit he loves her. And he’ll continue to ward her grow, until Death unites them once again. He’s just waiting for her to meet him on the other side of the river, as life’s current, ebbs and flows into many people and places. Connecting lives ever so slightly.
I love that in every episode they have moments that reveal that Himmel was in love with her and she's fallen in love with his memory which she regrets for being too late .
Also the connection she still has with her master. Fake books almost every episode or that border town's barrier having originally been meant to protect a simple flower.
theres an arc in the frieren manga where she teleports back in time and meets himmel again. i was expecting her to cry in front of Himmel and express her regret for not spending time with Him. OR maybe even give him a kiss. But she didnt. i feel bad for frieren and himmel

Its a shame. Movies no longer have these kinds of story. And we were left to find stories in anime that reminds us that there is always something out there.
I think some movies do have these stories, but you have to look harder to find them. Plus, it’s easier to show the passage of time over many episodes than one movie
That’s because Hollywood is more interested in forcing their agenda than making good stories. In fact the best live action films from the past 6 years are all foreign films.
But the truth is, frieren does know himmel..when the monster that disguise as himmel shows up, himmel says " frieren, kill me" and frieren says "that's what himmel would say"..in that moment, i realise, she does care about them all those years but she just doesn't realise it yet..
As more we get into the journey and she recall more moment with himmel, we get to know more that Frieren truly cares about the entire party and especially immel. If anything the feeling is already there, the journey just allows her to be more conscious about it
I think a lot of people confuse Frieren's perspective. For her, ten years is very little time at all - changing her mind about something over a ten-year period would be no time at all. So, as a result, she tends not to see patterns in her own behaviour, or the behaviour of others, over such a short timeframe. It's not that she doesn't know Himmel, it's that seeing him eat the same desert 100 times isn't going to register as his favourite thing to eat. Also, Frieren specifically says at one point that elves don't experience romantic love or the urge to procreate - hence basically no sex drive. So, even if she's aware of how Himmel feels about her, she can't reciprocate the way he would want her to. I think part of the reason we had several episodes with demons was to show how alien they are to humans. Demons are capable of empathising with humans, in the sense that they understand human emotion and human connection, but they don't reciprocate. Elves are similar in a way, they're fundamentally alien to humans and even dwarfs.
@@SigurdStormhand she cried at himmel's funeral, emphatize with heiter and sein, understood eisen's intention behind a hamburger steak, feeling happy watching a sunrise together with fern and the biggest clue of all, eisen said that 1/100th changed her. that 10 years journey with the hero party which only 1/100 of her life changed her. i don't know what frieren you watch man, freren has been showing emotional intelligence since episode 1.
@@SigurdStormhanddemons can't empathize, Frieren already emphasize that(and even more so in the manga), they however know what words to say so humans can empathize with them.
@@johnlabu1154 If you re-read what I wrote you'll see that I said *Demons* don't empathise, whereas elves don't experience romantic feelings. So elves and demons are similar in that both look like humans but are fundamentally alien - albeit in different ways.
The thing that makes Himmel so special to me is how well the author expands on his character. He's literally the perfect isekai MC trope molded to actually have a personality. The beauty is seeing how he takes his confidence and channels it in a way that made him one of the most well known legends in his universe. His numerous statues symbolize his steadfast personality, imbued with the simple desire to help everyone around him. Like supporting your favorite flavor of ice cream with a vanilla scoop, Himmel performs a basic role and he does it well.
Even the way that frieren takes example from himmel after they got quest is to get rewards no matter how small it is, not because they are pity or something like that but because when they travel they dont want the people they saved owned them and will always takes every rewards that given to them. Himmel truly is a true hero through and through
That’s maybe the most impressive thing . I think the only thing they “cliffhanged” was the fight with aura. But it delivered on every aspect , despite how fast it was .
@@Crybaby-Media Even that one we knew beforehand that Frieren was stronger. And once we learnt how Aura's power worked (again much earlier than the actual fight), we knew exactly how Frieren would beat her. Yet somehow it was still compelling and didn't feel slow at all lol
Himmel spent 50 years periodically going back to the village where Qual was sealed , and the story makes you think it's because he's checking the seal and being the hero he is , but only just now have I realized it's because he was hoping he'd see Frieren again , he doesn't know how long the seal will last , he never shows the ability to use magic , so he goes there every year for 50 years , just to see her
Himmel's love toward Frieren is a true example of unconditional love. And it also makes me bawl like hell because I've been like Frieren. My grandparents took me in from an abusive home when I was 13, and by that point most of my childhood/emotional development was already through the most formative years. I've been emotionally distant with others for a long time. While living with my grandparents, I remained a bit of an emotionally distant observer, even as I joined them for family occasions. I'm in my late 20s now, I still lived with my grandparents. My grandpa got cancer a few years ago, and for two years I watched him die. And after he died, my heart finally felt like it had shattered in pieces... I realized just how much I'd distanced myself to avoid pain. I realized just how much I loved him... how much I missed his smile, and how much I valued something as simple as him saying to me, "Good morning, Anon," and "I love you." I think anyone can relate to how visceral it is to only realize how important something was to you, until it's gone forever.
The party is compose of people who we not typically think. A hero who may actually be not the "True Hero". A Priest that doesn't have a saintly vibe. A Warrior that shakes in fear in front of an enemy. And long living Elf who just realize the flow of time.
I dunno about the priest since a corrupt priest/nun is already a trope on their own (even Sein falls into this trope), but I guess the difference is that it doesn't show? but the anime is refreshing nonetheless
You mean real people, not just a 1 dimensional combination of clichés just unique enough to not get mistaken for the next generical character from a fantasy anime?
It is indeed an actual Tolkien-esque return to Fantasy. That why I love Frieren, Lets remember that in Lord of the Rings the elves were leaving Middle Earth because they were tired of the passing of time in that side of Arda. Frieren in some way is searching for her own Valinor
It wasn't that they were tired of the passage of time and watching everything die, it was the fact that their immortality was tied to the land. As Sauron grew stronger, they grew sick and weak. And so all that were left fled to the undying lands of the Valar. The Light of the Eldar, or Light of Valinor, was fading from the elves because of Morgoth's lingering darkness. And so any elves that didn't flee to Valinor would eventually "dwindle to a rustic folk of dell and cave, slowly to forget and to be forgotten" as Tolkien put it.
One of the reasons why I love this series is their portrayal of Himmel. In a series that explores the problem of limited time, Himmel finds a solution. Which is to immortalize himself throughout humanity through people’s memories. He thought that if people remembered him, then his presence and legacy would carry on in the future and he would never truly die. That’s why he is shown as an ideal hero and attributed with such a uniqueness (as if he was the MC of a show). More importantly, this is what allowed to him live his life in the present as if he had unlimited time.
What's amazing is despite Himmel being gone quickly in the 1st episode thanks to Frieren's memories/flashbacks it fleshes him out so smoothly and makes us cry realizing Himmel is not as shallow as many fantasy heroes. The reason he wanted statues to be made was for when they have passed on Frieren can still see them and people shall remember the heroes party that saved the world. Himmel truly loved Frieren.
I really love how the memories are almost always fond. The ones of the party, of Himmel, of Flamme. It's a good reminder that remembering the dead doesn't have to be sad or depressing. The other thing is that it reminds me to be present in the moment with the ones I spend time with. You never know how long you have with them, so make memories. Also, the spell that spawns a field of flowers is my favourite piece of continuity. Flamme's favourite spell and one Frieren and her party could enjoy and have fun with. It really is the best spell.
Minor manga spoiler: If not for the flower spell Himmel would never recruit Frieren and would never defeat the demon king. So much for useless spell as Serie kept calling it.
I'm an immigrant in the United States. I left my friends, family and everything I knew when I left. Over the years, things changed. Friends I knew and people who were close to me passed. Family changed. People changed too. After that first episode, I was reminded of all that. I broke down into ugly tears for the first time in 5 years. Such a great show
To me, this anime is two story. Frieren journey to understand value of life in all its aspects, and the world longest love letter written by Himmel. At every point in the story, Himmel although no there, essentially still walk next to her, guiding her, still there to remind her, he is there next to her. She don’t know what love is or how it looks like, I also think Himmel also don’t, so he showed what his love looks like in the most innocent fairytale like way ever.
the first episode reminded me how short our life is… every time Himmel is showed through Frieren’s memories, I felt regretful… I dunno. This show makes me realize how time will keep moving forward.
I love this anime so much because I can somehow relate to Frieren. Am still in my 20's but I have seen a lot of my loved ones go. Cats and dogs do not live as long as humans do after all. Especially so for chickens and fish. I remember back in my elementary days, my classmates would wonder why I sometimes suddenly cry. I told them coz my fish died or my chicken died. They would wonder hard why would someone cry over a mere fish. But they do not know that fish as much as I did. Humans always have seen the lives around them in their own perspective and the through the perspective of those lives themselves. But I saw them, I tried to understand them and the meanings behind their actions and how they respond to their environment. They were my friends. The only ones I had. The only ones who understood me beyond words could tell. The only ones who wanted me because I was myself. so yeah the thought of Frieren seeing people come and go resonated hard with me. When I was a kid, time felts so slow but now I barely feel the passing of time. I feel like time has gone and passed me by already. I am also a menopause baby. So yeah I have witnessed the people around me grow old and wither as a kid. From a young age, I realized the horrors of the marching of time. every tick of the clock sounds like an echoing bang for me. I am afraid of time. Because time would only take everything away from me. And what's even funnier, I somehow did not change so much physically. I still am experiencing puberty at the age of 28. When I see my classmates from HS and elementary, I feel anxious for they have become adults. While I remained the same. Even my professor in college said the same thing to me after seeing me in a long time. I barely changed. He even stated that the only thing different in me was my hair was down and do not have styling wax. And I do not understand why we need to change. But one thing is for sure though, I won't live long since despite my unchanging appearance, I was not blessed with the healthiest constitution. But yeah this anime, it resonates so much with how the world feels like to me.
I always tear up whenever someone points out how beautiful Sousou no Frieren is. It because it helps point out some things humans fear and take for granted too and that is time. The time we spend with people can be short but even short times with them can be such a great thing to have
Part or Frieren'a journey is not only us realizing Himmel loved her, but her realizing she loved him. Anyone who's up to date in the manga knows, and even people just watching the anime can see that he is still the most important pertain to her just by how she remembers him. Adds another layer of sadness on, but also some hope.
A quote from tolkien came to mind: “For the valour of the Edain the Elves shall ever remember as the ages lengthen, marvelling that they gave life so freely of which they had on earth so little.” Edain being the men of the first age in middle earth.
What I adore most about this story is how Himmel despite not wielding the true hero's sword still manages to slay the demon king. He doesn't care about what destiny said. He only cares about what he's doing right now. The good things that matters.
Your video made me cry again... I noticed the little things about the way she collect weird spell, and bawls when later its mentioned that Eisen likes sour grape. I really love that they portray the journey and said "2 yours passed by. 6 months passed by" surely that's a very long time for us, but not for Frieren. Somehow the time passes makes me feel like I'm going through it. I'm only 28, not that young anymore but also not old enough for a lot of experience. Going through the same routine everyday, working until late, when I saw Frieren I can't help but to think about all the people that I used to talk to almost everyday, but now I'm not talking to them anymore.
Yeah i i noticed the sour grape too. She have a spell that turn grapes sour and turns out eisen love sour grapes. That's when i realised it's not just because her friends had passed that she started to pay attention to them by reminiscing all the memories, she had always cared about them, in her own ways
Lovely review! What I also think is a clever choice in storytelling that's unique to Frieren is how we see the perspective of the Hero's Party from her-- It's unique in the fact that every memory she holds dear of them wasn't of their heroics, as you said, but all the intimate moments. And that makes the stories about Himmel and the others as the Heroes that much more engaging to hear about. And with Frieren living in the present where everyone else has only those grand tales to tell, Frieren fondly remembers the party who each of them have their own flaws that no one else remembers of- which I think makes their impacts as the heroes so much more impactful.
This show sounds right up my alley. I'm the guy who loves sitting silently in serene melancholy. I'm the guy who always plays the overpowered high elf wizard girl in every RPG. I'm the guy who cried reading the end of The Lord of the Rings because it was so sad and happy. I'm the guy who reads 19th century poetry and, together with the poet, mourns "the death of beauty and the death of grace". I must look into this more.
Over here crying yet again about Frieren lol. Thank you for the wonderful analysis. I’m so glad to see that this show has affected other people as deeply as it has me. It makes me wish everyone would watch it, if only to appreciate their day to day a little more. We’re all so caught up in life that we’re not even living it. This show is such a great reminder to just stop and feel the beauty around us.
You wrote this heartfelt video while almost tearing up? And the way you speak, like almost breaking, almost made me tear up. This was wonderful. Thank you.
Wonderful, wonderful review which plays like the Anime itself. Himmel certainly loved Frieren, but love and romance take a very long time for Elves as Frieren says. An Elvish romance could take centuries, but certainly far in excess of a single human life. Yet Frieren does feel something which she is trying to understand. This is why she constantly holds the Beloved Ring that Himmel gave to her, and why she wears the same Red Teardrop earrings as Flamme but only after meeting Himmel. The earrings reference the ears which on an ELf like Frieren is part of Elvish romance. Look forward to your next Frieren review.
Wow you recognized that Himmel loved her way back on episode 7, I just watched the ring episode with the 100% confirmation, this makes the story even better as Frieren slowly realizes the true love she lost.
If only Himmel got more time, Frieren might come to understand human emotion and one day fall in love but too bad time isn't something short life species can afford.
I think Himmel's death was what triggered her to want to try to understand human in the first place. Despite only being in her life for 10 little years to her, he left such a strong impact to her that she started wondering why...
I only got 27 years with my mom, and now I have to face another 50 or so without her. It’s true, human life is short, and nothing is promised. Don’t waste the time you have on this earth, if you care about people then tell them. Cherish the day before it’s gone 💔
love the way you analyses the emotions and time in the anime as well as when u are explaining the amount of passion you have for this anime its truly inspiring.
I watched the first 2 episodes today and I cried so much. Made me think of life. The loved ones I’ve lost. My mother.. my brother.. and wishing they were here on this earth still. Life is so short. This anime has already impacted me so much. I fear death. I fear losing loved ones and this made me call my dad asap (who is 82) just to chat and say hello to him. I can’t wait to continue this anime. It’s already a true gem.
And this week's episode we should get even more insights on why Himmel is the one true chad of all the heroes from all animes. He might not be the hero that was supposed to lift the sword but he was the hero the world needed.
This show somehow feels like playing Final Fantasy X-2 after playing X, retracing previous path just to relive the memories of someone the MC had lost.
I'm not great with words, but this is truly beautiful. The story of the anime, the discovery of the heart and expanding the mind, and even the kindness and love you gave this series while going over it, is all so beautiful. I *have* to watch this show now
I found the manga last year, binged it, cried a bunch, loved it. I'm destroyed by the current story arc we're on.. but no spoilers of course. Will definitely watch the anime too, it looks like a really good adaptation. Cried a bunch while watching the video, loved it, thank you
Spoilers ahead; . . . Something that sticks with me is the scene where Freiren returns to a village that they saved at the time. They sealed a demon with petrification magic during their journey and the demon is still alive. What's important here is not the demon or the village itself, but a small interaction between the villagers and Freiren. They say that they were expecting her and she is surprised by this, having mostly forgotten the villagers. They believe in Himmel, that Freiren will return once he has passed and the time is right. That she will return before the demon breaks free and slay him. The faith they have in the hero that saved them all those years ago and by extension faith in Freiren to not forget despite how many years may have passed encapsulates the importance of these relationships and ties. Freiren is believed in simply because someone that she knew for a short period of time of their journey together said that she would return. And return she does. Even though it's a village in the middle of nowhere, with people who will be forgotten in the next generation - these are people she has helped save. People that she has an inexplicable relationship with regardless of how brief and fragmentary it is. And because of her relationship with them, her memory and time with Himmel is reinforced. He continues to live on in the memories of those that were saved. Proof that he existed, and proof of their relationship.
It shows, there is more than one way to live for thousands of years. The ties we have, and binds we form, can span longer than any 1,000 or 10,000 year old creature. But, it also shows why the Elves of Lord of the Rings leave Middle Earth to return to their homelands. They were dying and becoming ill due to the corrupting influence of Souron and the evils of Mordor. But, the elves also were saddened to see so much death and suffering so often. They were not so cold and uncaring to the world and short-lived creatures as you would initially think. They felt great sorrow for much of the pain they felt and witnessed. So they returned to the land where time was as slow and beautiful as they were. Yet, that which is short lived, is more precious and beautiful than a slowly aging youth, frozen in time like amber.
It does give me the shivers, but as a person who dislikes change since we haven't been given any other option in life, finding beauty in that is simply nothing but an illusion, only those not burdened by the inevitable can truly say they've found beauty in something such as likewise.
Ngl, this video made start bawling. You did such a great job, and this is one of the very few shows where I went to read the manga! Keep up the great work!
I haven't started watching Frieren yet since I'm currently on "To your Eternity" but dang, i gotta give this show a watch afterwards, both animes have a similiar premise of an enitity that lives longer than humans and Frieren is filling me with intrigue as it has a separate execution of the premise.
This is the first and only video I watched that immediately sparked my interest in Frieren and I ended up binging it within a few days, so thank you so much for this video! I cried when you quoted Himmel about his reasoning to make all those statues, and I had no context for the series outside of everything in this video prior to that moment. Splendid video!
Thank you so much for the vid. You did a really good job with this one; it plucks at the heart strings softly, carefully, lovingly even. The editing is def good, the writing is incredible, and I mean it, you made me shed a tear over the characters and stories which I don't know! This is so cool! Go off king, you're doing gorgeously well.
The anime teaches you that you need to appreciate those small moments, just as much as being with people who you care about. How many times have we walked by something that is generally mundane, but if we looked we could have seen something we'd remember for life? I still remember looking out my school bus window, one morning on the way to school, and the sky was a plethora of colors. Mixed and separate all at once and the color was otherworldly. It was a coincidence that everything came together, along with the sun being in the right position, to light up the sky like that. I indulged in that beauty until I had to get off the bus, but I'll never forget it. I've never seen it to that degree since and it has been another half my current total lifespan since then (16 years). It's something I wish I could share with others, because it was that capturing.
Thank you, Locklan. I cant put into words all the feelings this anime put me through yet you said it simply but meaningfully. I was crying the at the latter part of the video not because of sadness but because it was truly beautiful. We are so lucky to have this kind of anime in our time.
One of the most depressing part of this anime is that frierin will have to see fern die. She will have to live through it all again. But the memories that lasted for only a moment will be remembered for a life time.
the song choice of this video is probably the greatest it couldve ever been. There's something about the outer wilds music that just clicks perfectly with the theme and message of this anime
Of all that I have seen up to this point, this is THE best review I have seen for Frieren. I'd love to see you do another once it's over, and I'll definitely be showing this to some friends of mine that I've been trying to convince to watch the anime. Keep up the amazing work, I really hope you get the support you deserve for the effort you put into your content!
What a beautiful video. And I did exactly what you said regarding JRPGS. After I beat DQ11, I couldn't let go just yet and went on a massive side quest campaign. I got a bunch of outfits and did darn near every side quest I could. I clocked in at a little over 100 hours. It truly is something magical about adventure stories like jrpgs or even fantasy ones like Lord of the Rings. You go on an adventure too, and it changes you as well.
What is interesting for me as well: We've seen Frieren in the show, how she looked like a 1000 years ago. She looked quite the same, didn't she? That would mean that 1000 years are not even 1 or 2 years for her. Meaning that she will probably even live a hundred thousand years or more and not just some few thousand years. It's really a great thing to think about somehow.
There is emotion in your voice the whole video, like you're tearing up. Made it more personal, less scripted. and your voice is making me tear up as well. Also, you make me want to watch it. i was scared cause it sounded like a tragedy, but I'm glad to know that it's more triumphant and reminiscent.
This analysis made me cry and was truly beautiful. You mentioned in your 1k video you owe your followers everything, well thank you for this video and sharing your passion and your time.
I love this show Every detail somehow comes back the music is perfect and so many lines have auch deep meaning Its probably the best anime of all time As of episode 14 it is for me
im an immature kid and just finished this with tears in my eyes, i binged this anime just this summer, a few days before vacation. this conveyed so much emotion, it made me realize how time, will go on, whether we like it or not. when you mentioned how someone can play a game for a month, focusing on the goal or mission to achieve it until you longer can, is making me tear up even more. for a long time over the span of last year december, i have been constantly playing video games as an escape from my own mind and reality, but i wasnt alone, i spent alot of my time with this person i love so much. we reached each other a hard time in my life, now that we cant see each other as often, i reminisce on how we played hours and hours on end together. i have been reflecting lately and now, i feel remorse, i remember feeling slightly annoyed but i always gave in since i liked spending time with the person i truly loved to see smile everyday when i could. im not a people person, i usually perfer to be independent, only letting myself open up to people who want to make use of me or need me for something, but for once, i wanted to spend all this time with just this one person. doing things alone is okay, but having somebody by my side, is even better. we support each other no matter what, and i want to continue expanding my love and memories with him. thank you for making this video.
Seeing this i have no choice but to watch it now. I have no idea what the magic is with Animes, pretty much all of them are full with so many beautiful stories and meanings that you can take to heart, something i have only seen the past decade from Anime Shows, it's beautiful. I love the message conveyed in "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" probably the most out of all i ahve seen the past years. It doesn't matter if it is 1 year, 10 years, 50 years... Cherish the memories with your loved ones. Remember them, remember they once lived....!
This is one of the most beautiful animes I’ve ever seen. The emotions, the characters, the scenes, the animation, music, everything. I haven’t even watched this anime, only summaries, but I can’t wait to enjoy it
Frieren's "lazy" and carefree personality is fitting for someone who lives over a milennia. It isn't lazy. That's how you would see time if you live that long. "Deadlines" would be over 100 times over other mortals.
Every once in a while, an anime comes along that stands above the crowd, shows us something sad and beautiful. I think this is once such anime. And I hope it joins the ranks of Akira and Spirited Away in terms of how it’s remembered. Great synapsis. Thanks for the good video.
Awesome video. Ill admit i started to tear up too through your narration and it gave me an even greater appreciation for this beautiful story. Thank you
As luck would have it, I stumbled upon this video. I never anticipated having a tear suddenly roll down my eye in the middle of this video... I am not in the best state right now, or I guess I'm just highly emotional when it comes to topics like these. Nevertheless, I think you have captured the essence of the anime fully. Watching the first few episodes really made me realize how extremely difficult must have been for Frieren to have found a family, only to lose it. But you were right about the beauty of remembrance - and the pure emotions brought about remembering the people you love.
Beautiful commentaries for a beautiful anime. Your title of "How Love Defies Time" is what drew me here and I agree with everything you had to say about Frieren in this video. Thank you!
I got hit with the feels while reading the manga. Got hit with the feels while watching the anime. Once again, got destroyed by the feels while you distilled the highlights of Frieren in this video essay. THANK YOU!
Perfect. This video perfectly encapsulates why i love this show so much and how much i love The lord of the Rings. Timeless classics that will always span the universe and time itself. Thank you, kind sir.
amazing video, I felt the emotions flowing from your script; amazingly done to the point I'm surprised you have only 1,4k subscribers, so good for you to hit the algorithm with this video!
My best friend from my childhood came and went all the time. When we reconnected when we were adults, I was ecstatic but busy trying to get my life together. I didn't get to say good bye to him, or tell him how much his friendship meant to me. So yeah, I cried with Frieren. And I cried with Stein... Why didn't I go with him, on all of his wild dreams and adventures? And I promised to never make that mistake again, and to live a fuller life with the ones I loved. Frieren is amazing, my absolutely favorite show of the season. “Her smiles were shorter. Her laugh was louder. She became distracted at times, and would stare at nothing with a look of shattered sorrow that passed like a cloud the moment someone spoke her name. She loved less quickly, but more fiercely, and made certain that those she cared for knew it well. Sometimes she wept when it snowed.” ― Nicholas Eames, Bloody Rose
i can talk so much about frieren and compare its themes to other forms of media, like how himmel's story is told through the perspective of the people who encountered him (frieren, the villagers that were helped by him, etc) just like agnes montague in the magnus archives, or how himmel loved frieren his whole life but only making up a small portion of her lifespan like eren did to mikasa but for this topic alone, i just want to talk about how we, as the viewers, only got to know himmel through frieren's memories. we got to spend time with heitner and eisen after the journey's end, but barely any time with himmel. so when frieren reminisces about him, it's like hearing a parent talk about your grandparents who passed away before your birth. you only get to hear the great things they were and imagine what they were like as people, but in the end the ones who hold their memories are the ones who actually met them. it's kind of bittersweet, where you can continue their legacy and triumphs by retelling their tales, but it leaves a sense of longing to have actually met and knew them. can't wait for season 2! or maybe i'll just pick up the manga haha
Hi all! Thanks for watching the video! Leave a comment on what to watch next, or at least something dumb so the algorithm does it’s thing!
Well looks like You did it, Algorithm is blessing you for something dumb
the weird Vtuber anime thing you and a few youtubers are doing is really terrible and cringe, even though i enjoyed your script. That cringey avatar thing completely spoils the emotional delivery of your feelings on the story, whenever it appears.
Apothecary diary...
And If we die, we died in service to a great cause, so no downsides!"
They did what most Hero Parties never do: They helped literally everyone in every town they came across.
Would it be possible to get a list of the songs you used for this video? The piece around 11:20 was just audio bliss.

Kinda like how Neo from the Matrix was defined by the Oracle. He went and become the One anyway, on his own way.
Himmel is not vain, he loved Frieren and want to be there for her when ever she needed him for the rest of her life the only way for him to do that was to have statues made. No one was going to remember Himmel as an old man The statues would be how he and the others would be remembered for all time. Himmel did this not for himself but for a woman he loved who could not love him today but maybe tomorrow when that time came he wanted to be there for her in the only way he could
I'm not crying
Man....

Live action in general is slacking big time. Anime seems to be the most creative form of entertainment now days.
That’s because Hollywood is more interested in forcing their agenda than making good stories.
In fact the best live action films from the past 6 years are all foreign films.
@@manofculturaMaybe watch other movies that aren't from Hollywood which has been following trends for the past 100 years 🧐😟
But the truth is, frieren does know himmel..when the monster that disguise as himmel shows up, himmel says " frieren, kill me" and frieren says "that's what himmel would say"..in that moment, i realise, she does care about them all those years but she just doesn't realise it yet..

@@Crybaby-Media Even that one we knew beforehand that Frieren was stronger. And once we learnt how Aura's power worked (again much earlier than the actual fight), we knew exactly how Frieren would beat her. Yet somehow it was still compelling and didn't feel slow at all lol
Himmel spent 50 years periodically going back to the village where Qual was sealed , and the story makes you think it's because he's checking the seal and being the hero he is , but only just now have I realized it's because he was hoping he'd see Frieren again , he doesn't know how long the seal will last , he never shows the ability to use magic , so he goes there every year for 50 years , just to see her
My heart really didn't have to break today but thank you ✋🏻😭
Himmel's love toward Frieren is a true example of unconditional love.
I realized just how much I loved him... how much I missed his smile, and how much I valued something as simple as him saying to me, "Good morning, Anon," and "I love you."
I think anyone can relate to how visceral it is to only realize how important something was to you, until it's gone forever.
The party is compose of people who we not typically think.
A hero who may actually be not the "True Hero".
A Priest that doesn't have a saintly vibe.
A Warrior that shakes in fear in front of an enemy.
And long living Elf who just realize the flow of time.
A mage that didn't see the magic of friendship
Reminds me of Wizard of Oz, inuyasha. I know what you mean though, there were dozens of anime where the MC was just OP about 7 years ago.
I mean in most new isekai manga, the priests are usually secretly perverts lmao
Indeed, it's very Tolkien.
Someone has finally said it, glad I’m not the only one who got a Tolkien vibe from watching the anime
@@Soloong_Gaybowzerjust like Arwen after Aragorn death.
@@Soloong_GaybowzerTolkien is dumb.
It was something like:
“What if they don’t remember you?”
“Well, if only for a little…”
Himmel man 😭😭
What's amazing is despite Himmel being gone quickly in the 1st episode thanks to Frieren's memories/flashbacks it fleshes him out so smoothly and makes us cry realizing Himmel is not as shallow as many fantasy heroes.
Minor manga spoiler:
If not for the flower spell Himmel would never recruit Frieren and would never defeat the demon king. So much for useless spell as Serie kept calling it.
I'm an immigrant in the United States. I left my friends, family and everything I knew when I left. Over the years, things changed. Friends I knew and people who were close to me passed. Family changed. People changed too.

"That fact that himmel dint married anyone until he died "

I noticed it as well. Himmel could have married but he just couldnt forget Frieren....
This is too tragic for me, Frieren now also has live for thousands of years without himmel 😞
I like your interpretation of how this is a long love letter by Himmel to Frieren❤.
the first episode reminded me how short our life is… every time Himmel is showed through Frieren’s memories, I felt regretful… I dunno.
Random but I really like the way you construct sentences. I normally wouldn’t read walls of text like this but this has to be an exception.

A quote from tolkien came to mind: “For the valour of the Edain the Elves shall ever remember as the ages lengthen, marvelling that they gave life so freely of which they had on earth so little.” Edain being the men of the first age in middle earth.
this was really a masterpiece, Frieren really shows the passage of time and how it can change in the eyes of someone who is almost immortal
This was a really deep and introspective analysis. Every word had intention. Frieren is truly one of a kind. This is a great video. Keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words!
Yep, I think this would be exactly what you’re looking for
"neither beauty nor grace is truly dead .. if it lives withn you."
Compelling case, but for who?

It makes me wish everyone would watch it, if only to appreciate their day to day a little more. We’re all so caught up in life that we’re not even living it. This show is such a great reminder to just stop and feel the beauty around us.

I’m glad you enjoyed it
Himmel never have a family just waiting for frieren to comeback!😢
I was tearing up this whole video 🥺 frieren is such a beautiful and timeless story. I’m loving it so much. Every episode blows me away

I started crying when you used that song from Spiritfarer, it always gets me.
This video just made me tear up! Grear analysis from an underrated YT Channel! Cheers for this and what an awesome video
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
it's crazy how quality beat quantity during that mere 10 years
The moment we both almost cried. I noticed your voice failing, and i was almost crying myself. If i was alone then you bet i would be crying.
It does give me the shivers, but as a person who dislikes change since we haven't been given any other option in life, finding beauty in that is simply nothing but an illusion, only those not burdened by the inevitable can truly say they've found beauty in something such as likewise.
Something isn’t beautiful because it lasts forever… what makes something truly beautiful is whom you can share it with.
just a reminder that Frieren will see Fern and Stark die, but this time I hope she will know them more before they die.
Ngl, this video made start bawling. You did such a great job, and this is one of the very few shows where I went to read the manga! Keep up the great work!
Thanks dude! If it’s any consolation, I almost started crying while editing it
I haven't started watching Frieren yet since I'm currently on "To your Eternity" but dang, i gotta give this show a watch afterwards, both animes have a similiar premise of an enitity that lives longer than humans and Frieren is filling me with intrigue as it has a separate execution of the premise.
You are strong. I cannot finished to your eternity. It f me up so much. Only could muster 6 episode anime and 12 chpt manga 😢
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed Frieren!
the 1st ep had me cryin i never cried so fast in an anime in my entire life
Thank you so much for the vid. You did a really good job with this one; it plucks at the heart strings softly, carefully, lovingly even. The editing is def good, the writing is incredible, and I mean it, you made me shed a tear over the characters and stories which I don't know! This is so cool! Go off king, you're doing gorgeously well.
Thank you Helga!
It took her over 80 years for her to realize this dude likes her and maybe just maybe she liked him too.
If you want to know the song, it's mostly come from octopath travelers 2. Honestly, this couldn't be more a perfect song for Frieren
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Makes sense...
Can't wait for the point where Frieren learns Time Travel Magic...
This video touched me just like the anime did. Thank you for describing in every right detail the feelings this anime gave out.
You’re very welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video
Me : "Oh wow ... That's sad"
*Outer Wilds music starts playing*
"OH NO THAT MAKE IT WORSE"
There is emotion in your voice the whole video, like you're tearing up. Made it more personal, less scripted. and your voice is making me tear up as well. Also, you make me want to watch it. i was scared cause it sounded like a tragedy, but I'm glad to know that it's more triumphant and reminiscent.
Glad you like the video, and while there are definitely sad moments in the show, it definitely leans more happy or at least hopeful
This analysis made me cry and was truly beautiful. You mentioned in your 1k video you owe your followers everything, well thank you for this video and sharing your passion and your time.
Thanks Akamaru!
This is literally one of best story I love her so much
I love this show
Every detail somehow comes back the music is perfect and so many lines have auch deep meaning
Its probably the best anime of all time
As of episode 14 it is for me
im an immature kid and just finished this with tears in my eyes, i binged this anime just this summer, a few days before vacation. this conveyed so much emotion, it made me realize how time, will go on, whether we like it or not. when you mentioned how someone can play a game for a month, focusing on the goal or mission to achieve it until you longer can, is making me tear up even more. for a long time over the span of last year december, i have been constantly playing video games as an escape from my own mind and reality, but i wasnt alone, i spent alot of my time with this person i love so much. we reached each other a hard time in my life, now that we cant see each other as often, i reminisce on how we played hours and hours on end together. i have been reflecting lately and now, i feel remorse, i remember feeling slightly annoyed but i always gave in since i liked spending time with the person i truly loved to see smile everyday when i could. im not a people person, i usually perfer to be independent, only letting myself open up to people who want to make use of me or need me for something, but for once, i wanted to spend all this time with just this one person. doing things alone is okay, but having somebody by my side, is even better. we support each other no matter what, and i want to continue expanding my love and memories with him. thank you for making this video.
Wow ,I haven't even watched the anime and this explanation made me cry a little bit 😭
Absolutely loved the video and gotta admit that I teared up when you played Outer Wilds’ soundtrack
Love this anime so much. One of the best if not the best!!!
I have been told those we love don't truly die until there is no one left to remember them so in a way her love is still alive in her heart
I sobbed a lot whenever I saw Himmel. Damn… that guy was just too nice. He really really loved Frieren a lot.
Thank you
That was 2 paper towels' worth of tears. Well done, sir!
Thank you thank you, sorry I can’t reimburse you for the paper towels
Thank you!
@@TracieLin you’re very welcome!
Thank you for the insight. You've pointed out some things that I overlooked. I adore this show - lighthearted yet profound.
This was a beautiful review! I was tearing up at every part of this video T_T
Glad you liked it
Only watched 4 min of this before I had to check out episode 1 on my own. Did not disappoint. Probably found my favorite for this year.
amazing video, I felt the emotions flowing from your script; amazingly done to the point I'm surprised you have only 1,4k subscribers, so good for you to hit the algorithm with this video!
Thanks dude! Doing my best to work towards 5k
Sometimes she wept when it snowed.”
― Nicholas Eames, Bloody Rose
I like how Himmel made it so all his statues were the same for her so there was no way to misremember him in features.
This series is being spamed so much on my feed that I now feel obliged to watch it.
i can talk so much about frieren and compare its themes to other forms of media, like how himmel's story is told through the perspective of the people who encountered him (frieren, the villagers that were helped by him, etc) just like agnes montague in the magnus archives, or how himmel loved frieren his whole life but only making up a small portion of her lifespan like eren did to mikasa
but for this topic alone, i just want to talk about how we, as the viewers, only got to know himmel through frieren's memories. we got to spend time with heitner and eisen after the journey's end, but barely any time with himmel. so when frieren reminisces about him, it's like hearing a parent talk about your grandparents who passed away before your birth. you only get to hear the great things they were and imagine what they were like as people, but in the end the ones who hold their memories are the ones who actually met them. it's kind of bittersweet, where you can continue their legacy and triumphs by retelling their tales, but it leaves a sense of longing to have actually met and knew them.
can't wait for season 2! or maybe i'll just pick up the manga haha
This is probably one of the, if not, most beautiful video essay I have encountered. It legit made me tear up and straight up cry :')
Im glad you liked it! Sorry for the tear
