My head cannon for Sly Marbo is that "he" is a title/position. Like "James Bond", or "Kenpachi".
How do you become a "Sly Marbo"? Well, you do something bad ass enough, and the brass pins another medal on "Sly Marbo" before quietly executing you for disobeying orders.
That's why the IG can't "send Sly Marbo" - he's already there, he's EVERY Catachan sole survivor who pulls off some "impossible" victory - you just need a Catachan squad to get screwed over and a single guardsman to be blessed by RNGesus, and another "Marbo Moment" finds it's way into the meme-pool.
My favorite Marbo Moment was with a borrowed Catachan army - the Sargent survived a round of attacks from the broodlord that ate the heavy armor, and then killed it WITH A CHARGE. (He did only do one wound - but it was the LAST wound, and they were the last living things on the table, pure RNGesus, pure EPIC.)

    • @thefallencog

Well there has been a history of Mortal perpetuals besides the emperor existing in canon. Hell, the one the fans actually like was considered to be the closest thing the emperor ever had to a friend. So much so that he was allowed to commit religious heresy through ought his existence.
However games workshop is really shaky about acknowledging the fact there were other Perpetuals besides the Salamander primarch, and the big E himself. They much prefer the "a company of Guardsmen got really lucky and smashed up horus's ship"

You really do need a part two, like for commissars Gaunt and Cain. Gaunt outright killed a chaos space marine by cutting him in half with his ancient power sword. He also often leads his men to victory against heretic space Marines. Cain has also fought and killed several chaos space Marines, all while he has saved the galaxy several times over and bangs an inquisitor. An honorable mention would definitely have to be Jürgen. That blank has stared down every single threat the galaxy has to offer and his universal response is to shoot it in the face with a meltagun.

I will give an honorable mention to Tarasha Euten, Guilliman's adoptive mother. For context, Euten was the seneschal (a term for a steward or head of the household) of Konor Guilliman, Roboute's adoptive father. Euten was the person who raised Roboute, and it says a lot of her parenting skills for a freaking Primarch to obey her. Roboute, in turn, often sought her advice, even after Roboute had pledged allegiance to his actual gene-father the Emperor.
I should point out that Euten was already an elderly woman when the Horus Heresy broke out, and even then, still continued to advise and command the respect of Roboute. During the whole Imperium Secundus fiasco (which was partially her idea), she came face to face with Guilliman's erstwhile brother Konrad Curze, who had come to kill her and make Roboute despair. I need to stress: Euten is a feeble old woman, and when faced with a freaking Primarch who can kill her in a number of wayseasily, she looked him in the eyes and told him to "go to Hell". That is pretty hardcore, if you ask me.

When going through some of the lore of standard humans in 40k it sometimes makes me wish the human faction on the tabletop were designed different. Like rather than Space marines and guard being separate the Space Marines were just elite units in the Imperial Guard army. Make them potent and expensive and can only be deployed on turn 2 or later (Since SM's in lore show up after the IG have already been fighting). If you want to balance it against CSM subject them to the same thing but attached to traitor guard or cultists armies.

Eisenhorns relationship with the daemon is a great sign how he becomes more radical in his methods. Starting as a puritist who only performce his duty by the book he turns into a radical who uses everything at his desposal no matter how much it violates the rules of the Inquisition, making him an outlaw of the Inquisition and a wanted heretic in the process.
He first tried to kill the daemon and saw him as his Nemesis, since the daemon tormented him in his dreams and constantly tries to corrupt him. After defeating the master who bound the daemon to the materium, Eisenhorn binds and enslaves him in the basement of his manson, instead of literaly erasing him from exsistence, like he did with another daemon just a few hours prior, since Eisenhorn wanted to torment him in return by keeping him locked up for eternaty without any contact to others. Later he used the daemon as a weapon/tool and saw him just as such. After he safed Eisenhorns life multiple times, Eisenhorn starts to kinda befriend the daemon and even allows him to roam free as long as he answers to him, if he calls apon the deamon. They are kinda like Mephisto and Dr. Faust in the middle/end of book 2.

Lotara also pulled off some mad shit during the space battle over nuceria, managing to inflict heavy casualties on the ultramarines, destroy plenty of their ships, and prevent them reaching the surface for a good amount of time. The world eater captain she shot redeemed himself in that battle and in her eyes, for whatever its worth. The end result was the ultramarines being driven off altogether, so pretty neat.

Alexander didn't end his expansion because his men quit. His men quit and he gave a badass speech and then they agreed to fight again. He went to prepare for further invasions and died of natural causes.
The saying was "The Gods killed Alexander, for if they didn't he would one day have invaded the heavens".
History = more badass than fantasy :)
EDIT: look up on RUclips his speech. We don't know EXACTLY what he said, but it's still badass.

That was the Opis rebellion. That occurred around modern Baghdad while he was still fighting the Persian empire. He executed the ringleaders of the rebellion and inspired his troops to continue.
However, his soldiers did successfully mutiny a second time, whilst he was conquering in India. At the Hyphasis River they once again refused to go further, and Alexander was persuaded to turn around so that his troops could finally return home. It is this second time that is referenced the Macharius story. Alexander then died of sickness in Babylon years later, where he had returned after this event.
