This is my favorite golf teaching channel. Not only do you explain how, but why. This is like a father son segment, where the father actually knows what he is talking about. Thank you for the help.
I’m a player for 62 years who took a lot of lessons in my first 32 years. At the tender age of 49, I learned the Natural Golf Swing of “Pipeline” Moe Norman resulting in a 30 year old handicap reduction of 20 to 12 and an invitation to teach this “new” golf swing. Been teaching the best method of swinging a golf club for the past 30 years. Somehow in all those years of taking and giving lessons, I never heard of bending the left arm to assure that I would swing through the sand more consistently. Never too old to catch on.
Well explained that no other coaches taught it before ever in my 14 yrs memories!! Most coaches if not all taught the PGA way stopping short of explaining why. And never the amateur one. Cannot wait to practice it. Bunker is a killer to me always. Cannot thank you enough. ❤❤❤😮
Thank you so much. I tried this today, and I loved it. Bent arm works great. I even used it with my 56 iron to hit 20-yard chip shots on the fairway to the greens. It worked great for that also.
Merci Ed… you are making it EASY to understand…I love the way you deliver your teaching method and wisdom… you have completely changed my way of swinging the club and play the game… MERCI BEAUCOUP from Montreal Québec
Great tip! Bend the left arm at address in the bunker. Straighten lead arm on backswing and keep it straight thru the ball and , abracadabra you bottom out perfectly under the ball, every time. Eureka!
Patrick here - I’ve been using this tip ever since Ed showed me during the video and I have been amazed how much it has improved my bunker play. I was 2/2 perfect outs today!
I have always had a good short game, including pitch shots up to 90 yards. The one thing that was lacking, and I never knew why, was a consistent bunker shot. It never made sense why I could be a low handicap chipper and putter but fail to get out of bunkers! That is now all in the past 😀I had an extensive practice session in a bunker today (20 metres) and half my shots were within 1 metre and the worst was about 3.5 metres! Wow! Everything about this lesson is 100% correct and definitely works! Thanks Ed, you are the king!
Ed you have helped my golf game more then you could imagine. Thankyou !!!! I look forward to watching every video multiple times for reference. Your the best!!
Ed, Excellent video. Videos on trouble shots are welcome. Your expertise is a valuable resource. I think you offer the best golf videos I've seen. Thank you and best wishes!!! Mike King
Ed, thank you for sharing your experience and wisdom on bunker shots. You have had a wonderful career and how awesome to have learned from golfs greatest.. Really appreciate you.
Thank you for a really helpful video. The 3 to 1 ratio makes so much sense for grass versus sand as regards distance. Great visual to hit the green with the sand-never too old to learn even at 58!!😊
just found this video. Like most amateurs, we have some apprehension when being in the bunker. This is a very good video Coach Ed. Can't wait until tomorrow before my round practicing in the Practice Bunker. Have never seen the 6" circle hack. Plenty impressed. Thanks
20:00 You're hitting everything on the hosel because your feet are buried below the ball. Start with little chips out of the bunker and build in hinge from there. Gotta exorcize that mental block and just trust your posture and swing path in the bunkers.
I was hesitant to watch this video because the video was so long but I desperately needed to learn so I watched the whole thing. So happy I did. What a wonderful lesson. Thank you so much coach! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I promise I won't share this with my friends 😅
When Pat hit that plugged at around 38 minutes it reminded me of how way back when if i had any sort of chip shot around the green and i was skulling everything that day …id switch to that chop shot from rough /fringe/ or very short fairway etc just to not fly it across to other side of green into a possible bunker… i havent used that chop shot that in many years , but i know i can always pull it out easily ..so great to see it works for a plugged trap shot too! Though most traps in my area are usually hard enouGh to never plug 😂
I would love to see a similar video on shots out of green side rough, especially the lush fescue we have in the Midwest. This is the best video in bunker play that I’ve ever watched!!!
I've become more proficient at getting out of bunkers. However, this week I played a really nice but challenging course that had bunkers with a lot of rocks (some as large as grapes) and the sand wasn't very deep. I struggled!
From the information given do you guys recommend a lob wedge 58 or 60 degree for shots like this over the sand wedge 54 or 56 with a high bounce. 90% of lob wedges in bounce are around 8. What brands do you recommend that have higher bounce for shots like this for beginners. I know you guys said the alien club but have had one and have found that club doesn't work well on harder dry turf conditions. Any suggestion is appreciated.
@@edschwent1630so glad you mentioned the 60 on harder traps … it seems most municipal courses in my area have most if not all traps that are mostly hard pan dirt with small layer of sand at best… learned most (short or sand trap )shots with a 60 paying no attention to the bounce …i recently grabbed a couple other wedges and settled on adding in same model sandwedge as my TaylorMade RAC OS irons just because the rest of the irons hit half decent …but i still use the 60 mostly and was hearing everywhere i shouldnt even have a 60 …not just once but a lot have mentioned to open a spotin my bag and use the 55 /sandwedge and remove the 60 … ive always had a 60 ,but was considering it but i kjow i can almost always hit that 60 * 35 yrds up to 75 with amd avergare of 60/65 yrds …it may not seem like much difference but the adjustment to using only the 55 would require more practice and changes imo …now uncle Ed inferred a 60 is useful in hard traps iam happy 😂
Just thought /realized …that no grounding the club in a trap rule must’ve came about because one guy was using “grounding the club “ as a way to compress the sand out of the way behind the ball way back when 😂… all others playing this guy realized it was handicapping them To have practiced and learned to “out” without clearing behind the ball …and a new rule was born 😜
As probably the poorest bunker player ever, this has been a revelation, trying to play out like a pro does not work this does , especially good for a grumpy 78 year old
Pros have perfect sand in the trap on every course they play\ daily tee fee Can have lousy sand in the bunker, sometimes no sand, so of course we can’t play like a pro
Too much talking for a RUclips lesson, this lesson doesn't need to be almost 45 minutes long. I don't need to hear what "most golfers do" I just want to see the correct way to do it.
"Cure Your Fear of Bunker Shots INSTANTLY" but it takes 44 minutes? That's probably NOT "instantly." You seriously need to figure out a way to make shorter videos.
Know why you only have a few replies?? Because your video is 44 plus minutes. I didn't even watch! Do yourself a favor, anything more than 5 minutes is too long for this type video!
Best explanation for average golfer on how to play a bunker shot. Detailed explanation with demonstration by average golfer. Great job!

@ezgolfer2 Very cool about your experience with Moe & single plane. Went to a school myself a few years back. Where do you teach for Graves?

Excellent and extremely useful training video. Thanks for sharing your insights so generously.
Thanks! Appreciate the Manuel de La Torre method. Amazing result.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@TheGolfSensei I also feel more confident already. Here's to hoping it holds after I implement these techniques.

Best bunker lesson on RUclips. Thank you from New Zealand.
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of your best videos, yet. Even before the tip about the bent left arm, the video is great. Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks for the support! Hope the videos are helping your game :)
Common sense golf in a very Professional manner! Without a doubt the best I have seen in my lifetime! I’m 75.

Great instruction and I would certainly apply this technique as I have same problems, opening the face ... with bunker shots.
Thanks sensei this method really work for me, 2 stroke save from bunker today

This is the best video in bunker play that I’ve ever watched!!!
That's a great topic! We will definitely be doing a lot more short game content
Thanks for adding a caveat for us women golfers, too often we are forgotten in tutorials. 🤩
Ed I tried the bent elbow on a short pitch shot to get to the green it work for me I didn't even practice the shot got to the hole every time
I had the same issue, always hit behind the ball, just wondering if we can place the ball slightly behind? 😅
I've become more proficient at getting out of bunkers. However, this week I played a really nice but challenging course that had bunkers with a lot of rocks (some as large as grapes) and the sand wasn't very deep. I struggled!
I’d rather spend 44 minutes in a bunker than watch a 44 minute golf instructional video
What bounce preferred for plugged lies?

I recommend 56 degree high bounce on normal sand 60 low bounce on hard sand or wet sand

GREAT VIDEO. Always fun to be first comment.
Can you do a video on fairway bunkers
Sure!
His club looks really up right. His contact would be better if he lowered the shaft. Also leaning shaft to far forward
I wish Ed was my next door neighbor and he likes cold beers

I agree that this is too wordy, but it is good info. The golfer is sculling in part because he is too eager, looking up to watch the ball flight.
I fast forwarded back and forth in this 45 minutes to find the 2 minute lesson…didn’t find it.
You will miss more by Fast-forwarding...not all sensai tips are visual

Worst bunkers have pea gravel mixed in with the sand!
I use the alien sand wedge club. Works perfect for me. I use a 9 iron for pitching and chipping.
No rakes!
I call this the fried egg shot. The ball is the yellow and the size of the white plays roll in the distance??
An old friend of mine would end a story by saying “and parts of the story are true”.

It's 44min of quality advice. No need to cut it down. The practical knowledge is just as, if not more important than the technique
Hitting a 80 yard shot with a 56 is far?
Relative to swing speed
Depends on the golfer
