    Have played the game for almost 50 of my sixty years on this pale blue dot; and, it's astonishing how long it took me to get off the "I'm trying to max this 7 iron out", to make a "Repeatable" consistent "easy swing". From watching the pros on you tube, I have been amazed that the very best pros hit it very tight in the diatance dispersion category.

  • @stevedriscoll2539

    Loved, "If you guys my age don't have a 7 wood, you're crazy" 😂😂😂. Solid advice. Just bought a super cheap, but quality pair of "Austad" laninated woods (6 and 8)...I play vintage and can shoot in the mid-seventies on a decently challenging to easier public course (not championship layouts). Have been amazed at the capability of these clubs in the hands of a "rode hard and put up wet" 60 year old body😂😂😂

  • @holmer9413
    @holmer9413 3 дня назад

    Great advice. I play or practice almost daily now and can adjust a bit better because I like to practice from bad lies more than from great lies. That doesn't mean they don't catch me out at times but the variability you show between five shots is more than enough to cause trouble sometimes and it's important to remember that when choosing our shot so we avoid disaster. I know I'm guilty of too often not clubbing up enough from those lies in deep rough. I'm too old to power through them like I used to. I also agree about the seven wood. My new 7 wood is good for 185 off the deck and flies maybe too high. It's a bit harder to judge what the wind will do with it. Maybe I'll get used to it. I probably haven't hit it 30 times yet. Haven't had it on the range yet. But it's brought me two eagles already and a couple more eagle tries on my home course. It's got a dogleg par four where the height this club manages makes it an easy thing to clear tall Pines and Cyprus trees that line the corner. I now can pick a tree top to aim for a green I can't see thanks to that 7 wood and the massive heights it sends a ball.

    I used to never think about the release. Then, I went on a quest for more length, and one of my teaching pros told me I had no release. Well, soon after that, my game went totally in the tank!!! One thing I've learned is, it's more important than anything to hit the ball with a square club face. It doesn't matter if you hit it 300 yards, if it ends up in somebody's back yard. Take the club back square and return it to the ball square and you'll beat the longest hitters.

    Man ,lil past half way through video…..im probably midway between the two of you age-wise (mid 50’s) and i think maybe im swinging far to quickly …which i know makes little sense . …but at the range for as bad as my slice,push ,pull, etc etc shots are im still carrying farther than these totals, by far …and if hit well and straight (which has become far too infrequent lately 😂) my pitching wedge i think avg 140+, 7 around 170, but the 7 wood if i get the one lucky straight shot with good contact out of 10 i get 200-210(hard to get accurate avg when its so rare im connecting and it doesn’t slice …. Which is slightly less than 5 w maybe 210-215/220 if lucky , and 3w is about the same as 5w with an occasional 230..which is around half my good driver shots ,other half 260-290…then the other 50% are basically lost balls on the course to the right or left lol….so im thinking i might be swinging beyond my controllable limit speed-wise … heard hank haney say years back how its ridiculous when someone says tHeyre swinging too fast so i always try to unload everything in full swings after hearing that ….im quite jealous seeing you guys though hitting less yards ,youre keeping most if not all playable ! I now know why i like hitting out of the rougH most times though..use to assume it was because its where i hit most my shots from that i just got use to it 😂

      @@vicpnut1 watching Hogan practice the super slow motion swing where the ball just rolls forward like 20 feet is the drill that has turned me into a pretty good ballstriker at 60, after pursuing a good swing for 50 years. Also another guy that used to say he practiced his swing in 20 different speeds was the eccentric Mac O'Grady. He made a pile of money on the PGA tour in the 1980's (plays almost as well left handed), and now he teaches. He mimics Jack, Arnie, Lee Trevino's, and many others and he just stripes it.

    Great tool. I made an improvement. I let the light stick out 1/2" of the tube then taped the light to the end of the PVC. I can still twist the end to turn it on and off. No more flying out of the tube. I was swinging it too hard with the motorcycle twist, that the incandescent light bulb leads came out with the centrifugal force. I use the couch edge to carpet line as my line to target. Its right next to my Lazy boy!

    What would be interesting would be to see what a straight shot over the white sticks to blue flag looks like from the camera view. I rarely see my ball flight these days,I just hit the ball over a point about a yard or two in line with target and trust it.

    A single reference is not enough because you can still be incorrect to that single point of reference. "Two" points (other than the ball) on your target line are needed. I typically pick one BEHIND the ball and one in FRONT. That way I can reinforce my intended target line while addressing the ball. And YES, your eyes will tell you a different story at address. My TWO reference points help with that issue.

    Excellent video explanation! Having played the game for most of my life (55 yo) ... on the Range and on the Course - I have to PURPOSEFULLY remind myself that my target IS NOT where my eyes tell me it is ... Yes, it takes some focus and planning, but with enough practice you can get where you relax (mentally) and trust your line ... Yes, even if it looks like it's going off in a seemingly wrong direction. Again ... FANTASTIC video, great explanation. Bravo.
