A vey nice and insightful video. Too often we find concepts to be “gospel” when really they’re not. I like the idea of a fundamental as a distinction between for everyone and the concepts that are situational for individuals. I’ve moved back and forth from left to right foot with my irons trying to follow different concepts. This will help me develop my own.
Great video! For many years I hit my irons with the ball way back in my stance . I realized it was because I never learned to shift my weight properly. I just stayed on my back foot. Now that Ive got that figured out...Im trying to understand where my hand position should be. I don't mean strong or weak grip. I mean hands centered over the ball or forward of the ball. Currently im having the most consistency with my hands between my zipper and my hip joint. ...except for the longer clubs I cannot get the ball high enough.
I’m pretty sure Jack Nicklaus recommended playing the ball from the inside of the lead heel in his book Golf My Way. He kept the ball in that position and gradually increased the width of his stance as the club length increased.
I will be playing around with this tomorrow. My driver and long irons have been dialed but im pulling wedges like crazy. May e a good ball position fix will help. Only one way to find out
Its been a lil while since i finished Ben Hogans 5 rules …but i think the last setup you showed was more or less what Hogan was showing g with that diagram you showed .. i might be wrong but i swear i remember reading how the ball was always somewhere off your front shoulder/ heel .. the width of your stance then was dictated by the club which made it appear to have moved more forward with long clubs and more centered as the clubs were shortened …if memory serves , i think it was how you aligned in regard to the target line that was Hogans big “ change/ direction” that was supposedly big news to amateur golfers (meaning either opening or closing stance while turning your feet in or out ).. am working slowly through Niklaus “golf my way” and Dan Grieves “3 releases” at the moment , but i plan on rereading 5 rules after that while starting power golf from Hogan …maybe i should get right back to 5 rules first lol . Great video again , especially how you give the advice as possibilities to experiment with , not as how others claim “ youll never make solid contact unless you do it exactly like this “ …which is crap imo ,even if the advice is good for most there is always minorities who swing differently and well
Great video, recently had a lesson and my instructor and I discussed this exact topic...I have been experimenting with ball position and it is having a positive impact.
I’m so glad I’m seeing this video. I play almost every club better closer to my back foot, and this video is showing me that there is nothing wrong with that.
This past week, not seeing this video I changed to left arm position and narrowing stance as clubs get more lofted. Got better compression and fat shots were reduced greatly. I didn’t gain but a couple yards on short irons and nothing on long irons. My draw is gone, so are the hooks. All I want is straight shots.
If i have a lie that is not totally level, I take a practice swing or two to see where my club bottoms out. I play the ball based on this low point. In general, the same is true if I have a level lie. A few practice swings will tell you where you bottom the club out with that particular club and how you intend to hit the shot. My club tends to bottom out slightly back of where a lot of players will because of my 72 year old swing. If you want to change where you generally play the ball from, you better do that on the practice range, because it will require you to change your swing.
Hello. As im watching your video im concerned for you. Please stop eating carbohydrates. No bread, beer, sugar. Look at the ingredients and buy no carb foods. Eat 50 grams of protein and a cruciferous vegtable every meal. Only use extra virgin olive oil, real butter..i eat weigh 190 and im just under 6 feet. Im strong and thin. 6 eggs around 12 pm or until 2 pm with spinach sautéed..add mushrooms, cheese, onions if you have time. Sprinkle cayenne pepper, some tumeric, and pepper in the pan. Lunch...salmon or steak plus a salad of spinach or cabbage. Cabbage salad premixed at grocery store if too busy. Use blue cheese dressing or a carb free dressing. You're a bad ass and I want you to be a better bad ass for a long time. Watch youtube carnivore ideas, keto ideas. By nixing most carbs you will not have hunger pain. Carbs are not essential. As we age we cant metabolize protein like we could as kids. That means we need to eat primarily protein to maintain our muscle we need to protect our bodies. Other ideas...steak, eggs, sardines, fish, tuna fish, turkey, chicken, bacon, sausage, pork....

One of my biggest problems is I will get in fits of pulling my irons. This gets me thinking. Thanks

But shouldn’t you still take practice swings see were you divot is and play the ball there or move it a little bit forward?

Yes but what is the hand Position - inside left thigh ?
What's up with Moe Norman's setup? He's got driver in hand with the club head beneath his sternum and the ball in front of his front instep.
How do we find coach Ed lol
