my left heel seems to come up off the ground on my swing and I keep being told that it's not supposed to move, is that correct? I see at the end of this video you touched on the feet should move, does that mean coming off the ground a little bit? I'm not picking it and dropping it back down, the heel just lifts.
Really appreciate the information and help to demystify the golf swing … some of the best instruction on RUclips! Working on keeping the club face square in my swing using your lessons. For me, I tend to over draw my irons and fight the push or slice driver… can you suggest any drills or swing thoughts to help?
I’ve just unsubscribed from all other golf teachers’ videos and staying with yours. Professional, not pushy, no product branding. I was losing control over my golf with so many different methods I almost gave up the game. You’ve brought me back. Awesome! Can’t wait until the next video.
I have done something very similar. After watching many instructional videos I came to the same conclusion. Stick with one and go with them, my favourite is the teachings of Brian Sparks, promoting his theory the “Easiest Swing”. Still carried on today by his brother Philip and others on the team. Very different from the old methods of “do what the pros do” and follow the useless positional methods still promoted by many. A student of Brian’s, Julian Mellor (U.K.) is also an excellent instructor of the method. A worthwhile watch especially for beginners and seniors.🇨🇦👍👨🦳
the concept key here is that the "center" of the golf swing is BEHIND you, not in your middle, or in front, this is *the key* - I hope this video gets the attention it deserves
This is my new favorite golf channel. I just recently started to practice Ed's alignment stick, behind the ball as well as not looking at the ball yet looking/aiming an inch or more in front of the ball for my Wedges\Irons & Hybrids. I can't express how much my contact has improved in just a week. One of the guys in my men's league made a comment this past weekend in our tournament how solid I was striking the ball. I'm now, trying not to watch another golf youtube instructionals just to make sure I don't muddy the waters.....Love the channel guys!
The best advice you can get in less than 20min, I discovered many of the tips you said by intentionally doing the swing wrong to see what happens. I also learned quite a lot more from what you said. For me 6ft 2in and heavy the "feet together" and a slower 1/2 swing helps me get my swing back as it needs to be; while still out on the course. all the best
How refreshing, someone who knows what they’re talking about. I have never heard a good player say, “Oh, you lifted your head”. And when someone says , hit down on the ball they are setting you up for failure. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Ed. I set up the light stick and lo and behold my wrist was way too flat at the top, pointing outside the target line. No wonder I struggle and am inconsistent. Can’t wait for it to warm up so I can hit some balls. Many thanks for the superb instruction.
We’re excited for it to warm up here in Missouri too! We have a lot of outdoor lessons planned when the weather allows for it. Thanks for watching the videos!
I would love it if you did a video series that describes how to hit each club as if you were telling someone who never held a club before in their life the 3-5 things you should do to make a clean strike. A soup to nuts sort of thing. If that’s even possible. I really love your videos, and I am trying to revamp my swing to match your instruction. Your videos are the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen more than a lot. Thank you so much.
Coach Ed, many years ago when goofing around at a driving range in Atlanta, the individual I was with, being a very good golfer and having competed in numerous father/son competition, made the statement to me, "We hit a nail. We swing a golf club." This comment was, as Patrick says, a light bulb moment for me, and it further illustrates your instruction to, "let the golf ball get in the way." Thank you for the outstanding information and teaching you are sharing with us - I am very grateful and am looking forward to some time on the range and course. A really appreciate the liberty you encourage us to employ in our swings in an effort to figure things out for ourselves. Understanding correct concepts and fundamentals, improvement becomes a matter of time. Thank you, sir!
I recently saw a lesson somewhere explaining how the bowed wrists squares the face…which my driver slice was happy to hear…at the ramge i sliced a few ,remembered the wrist bow ,tried it and sent a rocket straight down the center of the range… next ball i snap hooked into the ground maybe 120 yrds out ,next ball i slammed the mat behind the ball …so for me i generally try to keep wrist more or less neutral up to the ball contact/whip point .. if i am slicing it 50+ yrds i may add a bowed wrist, if it works to get me through a round i keep it ,if not i move on to the old :separate hands a bit and back foot behind a bit with my strongish grip while remembering to whip the head to the ball before my hands get there …..
I was watching Rory McIlory on the range one time and I understood something about tempo. From wedge to driver, his tempo looked the same. Different swing speeds but same tempo.
Regarding confusing advice about keeping head etc still, I saw a drill I hope to use which focuses on keeping the hips level. I think it’s where u put your rear against a wall as u weight transfer. I liked that it focuses on a core part of the body -hips- getting away from all of the other peripheral details that are hard to keep straight.
Love this teaching. My favourites being keep head still and keep left arm straight. I received advice to keep my left arm straight. Wrecked my game. I have a chest that get in the way of my arm. For me to try to keep it dead staright just about pulled a clavicle out of place. Still searching though.
Good points and great explanations. If i were to pick a misconception it would be "target". I agree the ball is not the target but where it lands is not the target either. For me target is often to the right of pin.
I would love if you did a swing video on wedges I have issues with ball postion on full swing shots. My gap wedge (49) and sand wedge (54 and have 56) travel only about three yards apart. I know the bounce on the club can make a difference but three yards seems off. My 49 has a 8 degree bounce and the sand wedges both are 10 degree. Thank you for these videos
Thank you for this video! I have a question about your flashlight aid. If you're trying to hit a draw, do you still want to go straight back and forth with the light? Seems more for a straight shot.
One of the biggest things I struggle with as an ok player is aiming. Especially off the tee, lately I’ve been asking the people I’m with the check me and I always seem to be pretty far off from where I think I’m aiming. I would love a video from you on setting yourself up with and especially without training aids. I really need a system for when I show up to play a round that is gonna help me square up better than what I’m able to do now.
Thanks for your insight into the golf swing. In recall you studied with Manuel De La Torre back in the day. my question was regarding why he believed the ball position. Was the same for all clubs . Eg in centre for standard shots. I’m aware as the ball moves forward that there is a tendency for shoulders to open promoting slice ( if I understand his teaching ) But modern day golf always advises for the ball to be further up as per video. Is this to do with modern equipment needing high launch angles. Thanks for time , look forward to your tips
Would you please do a video on where your weight is throughout the golf swing and the best way to achieve it? You are a gifted instructor. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for this knowledge: Ido have a few things I would like to know : should I try to hit the ball on the inside to out for a draw swing : the grip I swing the best when I have my left thumb down the middle of the. Club or should I have it to the side also a short thumb or a long thumb does it make a difference. What do you think of the stack and tilt swing.Iknow this is a lot to answer
We will do some full videos on wedges this spring when the weather outside is a bit warmer! One thing that helps is to put a tee in front of the ball a few inches and be sure to clip the tee. We cover this drill in the most recent video lesson with Patrick

@jaredshelton9675 ironically, what you describe about hitting the ball with your eyes closed is accurate and true. As pointed out in a previous comment above, the ball is not in motion, therefore, the task is not to, 'hit the ball' but to correctly, 'swing the club,' in a [correct] path. That path has in it a stationary ball that gets squarely impacted as a result (of that correct swing path). As a very good golfer once told me, "With a hammer, we hit a nail. When I saw the misconception part I was excited about watching! I was disappointed... but I'm disappointed about pretty much golf instruction! You all work in bits and pieces... that doesn't work!
I'm sorry but I disagree that the target IS THE BALL. We're striking the ball with the club and the club sends the ball in the desired direction. Where 99% of golfers go wrong is because they're trying to swing toward the target or the desired direction of the ball flight and the club simply doesn't work properly if you do that and this misconception is the reason people think golf is hard. The golf club isn't a baseball bat, it's a very unique tool that is perfectly and almost magically designed to send a ball much, much farther and straighter than anything else man has invented.
@@gdo3510 Great idea but how does one actually hit "through the ball?" I mean really. Please define exactly the action and motion that is "through the ball."
@@HolyGrailOfGolfmy best advice is not aim for the ball so much as to swing through it. If you have good swing fundamentals, the ball will basically just get in the way.
@@gdo3510 My point is that no one know how to "swing through the ball." It's a silly idea. BTW, when we address the the ball which way are we facing - the ball. When you swing, which way are you looking - at the ball. Clearly the ball IS the target and if we know how to use the golf club properly the ball goes where we want it to. Swinging toward the target, or the desired direction of ball flight is a recipe for disaster.
Look guys what these instructors always fail too tell you is muscle memory. Tiger started when he was in diapers his son started very young. Most tour players start young. So my point is stay within yourself and play your best game

This takes practice obviously. But once you start to trust your swing it becomes easier.
Muscle don't have cells to remember anything. They're just fiber
That voice had me yawning 30 secs into the video. Couldn't watch any farther.
I like this a lot. Been frustrated with the endless advice out there. Bravo
