Sync button requires less actions and you can use it without any controllers
The button is not "useless", it's also an IR sensor for remote controls.

Not everyone has the gift of mobility (i.e. is disabled), this feature can be used via smartphone/Xbox app to navigate the menus and then sync the controller.

I’m still really confused to this day about how when I first powered on my new series X and the controller that came with it, the controller was automatically linked to the Xbox and I was able to control it without actually syncing the controller to the Xbox. No idea how that happened.

Well, there is a way, but it would also require you having set up the console using a controller to be able to do it first and that is communication with your television and your remote control for your television to be able to operate the TV and your Xbox…

I kind of like having a few physical buttons still. I feel like when consoles were more “mechanical”, it was easier for me to form an emotional attachment. Consoles are more powerful than ever before, but still find a way to feel kinda hollow. They don’t have as much personality, their limitation are industry bound, not hardware bound. I picture it like the SNES, N64, Ps1, Ps2, OG Xbox, etc… were the underdogs that had to fight their way to the top, with creativity in features and creativity in the games. Consoles now feel like the preppy kid that already has everything going for them. There’s no struggle or appreciation. Their origin story is, “they showed up and we’re already the best”
This reminds me of my stupid samsung smart tv when i lost the remote and wanted to configure a universal remote app and the TV asked me to confirm if i was the one connecting to it😂

You can double press the sync button on your controller to switch between your console and PC. If you've had both connected back to back
If you triple press the sync button on the controller it will switch between the last two devices it was paired to
I have a harmony remote I never paired with the xbox and it turned it on right away. I planned on getting one, and forgot it was there until it kept turning it on.

The RB button needs reinforcing , it always breaks first even on the 300$AU elite conrllers , at least on them I can reconfigure the RB button to one of the extra paddles.
How are you going through the menus and setting to the place where you need to select sync without a Controller???? That button is vital when you are connecting your one and only controller.
It is not useless. If you don't have a controller or your phone with you, you need to use the sync button to pair a controller.
Additionally, during start up, you can hold the sync button to enter a secure boot, which allows you to offline update or reset your console.
It is more than useless, it is extremely useful in the right circumstances.

Honestly i just use the Sync button, but the Xbox Accessories app is where you do the Updates for your Xbox Controllers.. Soo good for that, but alittle too involved just to Sync a controller
Plus isnt there also a way to have the controller save two different consoles or Xbox USB Adapter, i think you double press the Controller link button after turning it on, to have it switch between them. I forget exactly right now..

I just plug a USB cable from the console to the controller and turn it on, instantly synced. I always have a USB plugged in so that's what i do.
