  • Kia Ora everyone! Hope you've all had a restful sunday today. Loved hearing the feedback regarding the pickle and that its much easier to make then you realised! Today is a simple relish:
    1kg of chopped tomatoes
1 1/2 large onions sliced up
    1 tsp mustard powder
    1 tsp curry powder
    1 tsp salt
Optional* 1 tsp of black mustard seeds & 1/2 tsp of chilli flakes
1 cup of brown sugar it doesn't matter what sugar you use, it will just create a different taste
    1 cup of malt vinegar
Cook at a steady boil for about 30 mins on a medium heat
    See ya next week!

Kia ora! The salting part is important if you want to store it or save it for later - it's fine to skip that step if you're eating it freshly made or keeping it in the fridge for a few weeks.
Definitely salt it if you're making a larger batch or storing it, it helps with preservation and kills bacteria.
Boil or bake those jars & lids at a higher temp, 50 degrees isn't enough to kill the bugs.
Sorry, didn't come here to complain but it's important info, just in case!
Thanks for sharing your recipe, I've lost a family recipe and I'm looking for something similar, this one looks awesome, ka pai :)

Made this easy recipe and found it too sweet for my taste, I added 3/4 cup sugar instead of 1 cup and although nice, still too sweet for me. My husband likes it a lot as he has a sweet tooth. Next time I'll try it with 1/2 cup. Great video with good tips and I'll just adjust a little for my personal taste : )

Love your simple style and ni fuss bs. Straight up. Making mine now. Thanks for the advise about not letting the tomatoes sit over night with salt and then drain, I'm ready to do this now, not tomorrow.
    Cheers anne

Gave it a go but had no curry, substituted with cumin powder and had apple cider instead of malt. But it is amazing, already eaten a jar and I made it this arvo lol. Tastes exactly like my Nanny's but there's a taste missing. I'm guessing it's a herb and it was so long ago I don't remember the smell but would know the taste
    Thank you Mama for sharing

just use a little extra cornflour water mix. some tomatoes tend to be juicier than others so extract more liquid. I'm making this now.

    • @mummaskitchen2656
      @mummaskitchen2656  2 года назад

Just add another tsblespoon of cornflour to your slurry to thicken it up
