China had the same issue, and it took a bloody revolution to do so.

In fact, he would consider a protracted conventional war between India and China a best-case scenario. American arms manufacturers would derive massive profits selling huge amounts of second-rate materiel to India at exorbitant prices, leading to the deaths of literally millions of Chinese and Indians, permanently weakening both countries for decades to come.

When I spotted Palki Sharma's interview with Prof. John Mearsheimer I had ignored and decided to not watch it, because I had a very poor opinion about her grasp of geopolitics and that I am quite familiar with the Professor's views which I admire no doubt. And lo, it was spot on. She, like many other Indian journalists and commentators, thinks that Russia-Ukraine war is in stalemate; 'India is an aspiring super power', 'China is economically on the down-slide', etc. So, later when I spotted yours (Mr. Pravin Sawhney's) I have decided to go back and see the first one first and carefully viewed yours too. Unless one views both the videos one would not be in a position to properly evaluate the contents of the first one. And thank you for your quick analysis and apprising comments.
In addition to what you and Prof. Mearsheimer explained as to what constitute a super power may I add a word or two. Population definitely constitutes a major factor but it has to be united, actively engaged in nation building, contributing to wealth creation that leads to country's prosperity. For that the country should have internal and external peace. As for wealth it should regenerate wealth the benefit of which should permeate to the populace and that they should feel content and should be proud of belonging to the nation. Economic prosperity is another essential factor. For this there should be plenty of natural resources, skilled work force, investment capital and good entrepreneurship, sufficient water and power/energy resources, better communication facilities and above all a committed political leadership. To this we can add defence capability sufficient enough to protect the country from any external threat from land, sea and air/space. It is advisable that this is again sufficiently supported by domestic industrial production and innovation. (Eg. USA, Russia and China).

Since RSS led BJP came to power, it is going to hinder it severely.

I think the "Eastern Data, Western Compute" means that there are a lot of computational needs in the eastern China because it is a lot more advanced, thus data. But western China is less developed but has a lot of land and especially desert which can produce a lot of clean energy, and much cheaper. Therefore building data centers in the western part is a lot more economical and clean than in the east where the land and energy are a lot more expensive. Therefore offloading the hardware required for computation to the western China is a truly "win-win", as long as the connectivity is there, which means speed and bandwidth, which China obviously can build, through wireless 5G and optical cables cross the country.

This is pretty good, and far better grounded than most Indian-based commentary on geopolitics. Bravo on that! I agree on your major points:
India is an aspiring great power. India has great potential, but is going to be in China's shadow for many decades. It will take at least a decade for India to develop before they can leverage their large population for significant growth. If India doesn't get serious very quickly, they will be passed by sub-Saharan Africa, ASEAN, and LatAm countries who are striving just as hard.
India would probably not get involved in a Chinese-American War over Taiwan, given a lack of benefit but high risk for them to stick their necks out. India would officially back America in the UN, give a lot of speeches against China. Palki would have a field day every day.
Russia would be officially neutral in a Chinese-Indian War, but Mearsheimer is correct that Russia would unofficially back China in the same way that China is backing Russia against the Ukraine. They have a very large, demilitarized border which allows both countries to focus on other threats. They have completely complementary economies, and the only reason Russia's economy is growing under American sanctions is due to Chinese support. Should the relationship break down, Russia would be in VERY big trouble. While Russia could sell spare parts to India, it's easier for them to be strictly neutral and avoid any sort of direct military support to either side, especially as they know that backing the losing side would only delay the inevitable, not change the outcome.
One note, a naval blockade is an overt Act of War. If India were to attempt to blockade Chinese trade in the Indian ocean, that is a de facto declaration of war against China. Given Chinese history, it is likely that they respond strongly.
Again, great commentary, hope this gets more traction within India.

    1. Does Mearsheimer still believe that in order to win the war, a country has to fight a war very often?
    2. Even though India shows itself to be acting like a neutral country, it still has a more Inclination towards the West. There is no doubt about it.
    3. It is not on account of border issues that India considers China as its enemy. But, India also sees itself as one of the oldest civilizations and considers itself as an equivalent country with China, in terms of civilization, intelligence, knowledge etc.
But, it is only after 40 years, When China grew rapidly and left India far behind, that India now started feeling inferior and disgraced. Consequently, India now sees China as its permanent enemy. It keeps bringing border issues on the table just to cover up its jealousy and to justify its hatredness towards China.

The real measure of a great power should be "influence". That is determined by economy, diplomacy, technology, military power etc.
In each of these areas, China is at the forefront, not just the biggest economy of the world but an industrial superpower with more production capacity than America, India, Germany combined. That is perhaps the real measure of economic strength, but even in GDP terms, China is first and is the #1 trading partner for most countries.
Techonologically, China has caught up with America in most areas and is quickly surpassing it.
Diplomatically, US is in decline especially as a result of what its is doing in the region that must not be named, BRICS is on the rise.
Militarily, it has hypersonic weapons and about over 300 times ship production capacity of America already, but because China is also the greatest industrial superpower by far, that can be scaled up even more.
Then there's India. Corrupt. No infrastructure. Has a population as big as China, but no high speed rail. Industrial output is not great. Diplomatically it does business with everyone but it has alienated the world's muslim population due to its actions. Technologically it is good with pharmaceuticals, and I don't know what else. Militarily, it is a joke, but it has nukes so that can suffice.

The theoretical basis for classifications of power in international relations, such as distinguishing between superpowers, great powers, middle powers, and small powers, stems from the study of power itself. The systematic study of power is relatively recent, with scholars like Harold Lasswell emphasising the importance of concepts like power and influence in political analysis. These classifications are rooted in the understanding that states vary in their capabilities, influence, and roles within the global system. For instance, superpowers are characterised by great power and high mobility of that power, while great powers have robust economic, cultural, and political influence over other countries. Middle powers, on the other hand, possess moderate influence globally but are not as dominant as superpowers or great powers. These classifications help scholars and policymakers analyse and understand the dynamics of international relations by categorising states based on their relative power and influence in the global arena.
India is considered a middle power in international relations, falling after superpowers and great powers. This classification signifies that India holds significant influence globally but is not at the level of a superpower or a great power. Despite being the fourth most powerful country in Asia, India's overall power score has been declining since 2018 as per Lowy Institute Asia Power Index . Various analyses highlight India's position as a promising new power in the global arena, emphasising its role in shaping international affairs and its commitment to multilateralism. While India has been gaining prominence among middle-rung global powers, achieving the status of a great power will depend on its economic performance, defence industry capabilities, and human development improvements.
India’s limitations in funding the Indian Navy is a good metric to figure where she stands in this pecking order.

If you look at the money aspect. USA can still extract resources from the world through its USD domination. China, paid through its nose to challenge that and now, by having the base to sell things to the world. By maintaining significant technological edge over china, USA can still extract wealth from China. The problem is that it is losing the technical edge as well. In this perspective, it will soon be a unipolar world, unless china is contained in its sphere. If this is possible, then will other countries want the old USD domination system to carry on? Can USA carry on with 80% of the world joining the opposition or being neutral. At least half of the military bases will have to be closed? There is no possibility that USA can carry on, with china even contained within its sphere, so China must be suppressed totally. I think it even impossible for a bipolar world.

@@biggpicture2930 I agree with your points, in parts only.
On the big picture, I don't think it is and will be Unipolar or Bi-polar as other suggested.
Prof Mes often says that currently USA is top, China is close second and Russia is distant third.
The female host Palki had opening question about Uni-Polarity, Prof Mes answered explicitly it is Multi-polar world now. I agree to Prof Mes on both points that very vaguely, it is Tri-polar nowadays.
As a whole Chinese traits always lean on the inward looking and reserved ( not outspoken ) mentality, and surely NOT as gutsy and outspoken and fore-coming and initiative as the Russia. China indeed needs Russia on China together to change the USA dominated Uni-polarity even China is far wealthier than Russia. In Israel Vs Hamas, Russia is very bold to stand by Hamas and Palestine, While China dare not exactly follow Russia foot path, see the difference ?
Also, Middle East led by Saudi Arabia, Africa led by South Africa as well as India are aspiring to occupy ONE POLE a decade or two or three down the road. He was the first ruler to unify China under a "imperial" system. One of his great contributions was the written language, which a 7 year old chinese kid today can travel back 2,300 years in time and read and understand a script of wrote at that time. This is one of the core reason why China today, with the right policy, can develop at extraordinary speed.

Qin Shi Huang unified ALL of China in 221 BC, when there had previously been many Chinese states vying for supremacy since 475 BC. What is often missed in this story is how the King of Qi, the last warring state, surrendered to Qin rather than fight. This spared the people of Qi and Qin a bloody war that would have cost countless lives. Qin Shi Huang instituted and expanded many reforms. He is a powerful conceptual figure for unification, reform, and development on a supernational scale.

    a1. no. the fact that you need to ask that question show you're not a great power, yet;
a2. that's an idiotic question. why do you want to be part of a war for no reason? you want to, at all cost, avoid getting into a war.

An eye opening analysis.. I really think that India ia an under militarised nation, given the massive population. A huge military could help us intimidate any enemy instead of getting into second rate alliances with the US. I look at Indian soldiers on the border and even they look under-equipped compared to not just the Chinese and Nato soldiers, but even other nations. 😐😐

I watched the Interview today with Big Mouth Palki Sharma, a cheerleader of Sanghi. She first mumbled and did not address the guest and started with the question. She and other Sanghis thought that he would say India is a superpower, a super economy with a GDP per capita lower than neighboring Bangladesh, and Blame Bangladeshi people that 20 million Bangladeshi flooded India to get jobs. There are no Bangladeshi in India and propagate as part of Muslim hating propaganda to get votes from illiterate and fanatic sanghis. I agree with Mr Sawhney on almost everything. China and the USA will never fight any war and not be stupid like Putin. Chinese export market is the EU and North America. Due to the huge demand for the latest electronic gadgets and optoelectronic and drone tech, they make up half of their export to the West. Only fool leaders will wage war and destroy themselves. Even China sometimes digests insults by American politicians and even by Donaldo Trumpu. I studied Engineering in the soviet union(st. Peterburg and did my master's and post-graduate, later in Canada in the field of telecom and microelectronics in Canada) and I know math, physics and other basic sciences are widely taught in every university, and college. Russians are very good in math, and they are very good in software engineering, but russian scientists and American scientists got the Nobel prize together for electronics, but Russia was left behind with the fabrication due to the fault of their leaders. Russian isolation caused the building of electronics industries. Not a single country can do it alone. The whole West does with the help of each other how India can be developed when they bared 20% of Muslims and 50% of lower caste people from education and jobs and social segregation from the stupa Bramin or Upper castes. The sangish and RSS MODI completely denied the opportunity of 60-70% people of India. They are potential engineers doctors scientists etc.

Uh, China's biggest export market is currently ASEAN, and their LatAm exports are growing very rapidy! WRT math and software, Russia lags behind China, which has dominated the International Math Olympiad for many years. Chinese software is first rate, but not widely visible to Westerners.
China actually is the single country that can do it alone. China has the largest concentration of STEM graduates in the world, the largest single domestic market in the world (bigger than the US & EU combined), the largest manufacturing base, and a government that is actually working for the people. In 20 years, this will be obvious to the world.
