If India wants to catch up with China, it must first assess its own capabilities: 1. Caste issues; 2. Racial and religious discrimination issues, excluding Muslims and Sikhs, only taking care of Hindus, and one-third of pagans are excluded; 3. There are still two thirds of the population who are illiterate, and education needs more work; 4. Corruption and bureaucracy are everywhere; 5. Land ownership and even land acquisition are a big problem; 6. There is still a lot to be improved in infrastructure, including water conservancy, electricity and sanitation. It will take at least 25 years to achieve the above problems, so we will have to wait and see.

@@kenkarko5432To add to the areas highlighted here, the first prerequisite for change is identifying the problem correctly and accepting it. This first stage itself is nowhere in sight. Instead rubbish about 3rd largest economy in a few years is the mantra circulated and even the so called educated believe it, when the reality is over 1 Billion live on a per capita of around Rs 50k annually. This is further obscured by using laughable poverty rates and boasting how many have come out of poverty while the opposite is happening. Building temples has become the foundation for the resurgence of the nation but what are the teachings of religions and what is the reality of conduct, be it corruption, honesty, compassion, cunning, cruelty, caste, etc of the average person is never mentioned. Building a nation with some 20 percent of the population alienated is a bizarre way of progressing, but here too no one dares to bring up such subjects into the sunlight. The list is endless. In summary there is nil prospect of equal status with China this century unless China stops growing.

Awesome analysis my friend. Thanks for sharing it with us. It's quite unexpected from an Indian thinker to depart from the aggressive posture that most Indians have against China's rebirth. I sincerely believe that Modi is choosing the wrong partner in his vision of a greater India. I guess he hasn't got enough whipping from the colonial powers. If he can work with his archenemies, why can't he works out some minor skirmishes with his friend? Can't he see that the West is scared of an India-China joint venture in advancing cyberspace and AI technologies together? Russia is welcoming China in this domain because in spite of its domination in this domain, he does not see China as the belligerent domination of the USA. India and Argentina wanna be western look alike democracy is undermining its own potential for really taking of. China took off with a larger population than India and with poorer economical conditions. I am struggling to understand why India would align its foreign policies with the G7. Africa, South America , Russia, Iran... largely look up to the BRI as a real asset for their transformative development, why not india? it's mind boggling to listen to most Indian podcasters smearing China using western propagandas. It's shameful, to say the least, to invest in this mentality to handicap the competition by knee capping it.

Thank you, Dr. Sawhney, for objectively analyzing Mr. Jaishankar's book, Why Bharat Matters. India is a big country with people of very small hearts running the show in Delhi. Indian neighbours wish Mr Modi had the intellectual capability to choose the right team for the 21st-century world. Unfortunately, Mr. Jaishanakr proved to be a small-stature man with tunnel vision and a narrow perspective that has damaged India even in its neighbourhood. The Bangladeshi want India out; the Maldives have chosen India out; the Chinese are upset with the unilateral revocation of Article 370 and 35 A, and the Pakistanis consider India a terror-sponsoring country in Baluchistan under Mr Ajit Doval's comradeship.
Mr. Jaisahnk's foreign policy blunders have cost the people of India at least a couple of trillion dollars, and two lost decades due to conflict with China. For the past fifty years, the world has not experienced such an incompetent, self-praising, and small-thinking man, Mr. Jaishankar, the foreign minister of any country, as the EAM of India, the world's most populous country with a history of 5000 years. God will bless the people of India with a statesman PM in Delhi in the coming elections. God bless India with capable people who can serve the people of India instead of leaders like Mr. Modi.

India, predominantly, a backward country. Without an argument, The BJP very openly promoted and supported the staunch Hindu mindset and caused a big dent to secular India. The extreme superstitious behaviour is encouraged in a way that pundit, prohits, pujari and hindutava based politicians appear to take a pride of their silly belief while educated and broad-minded hindu individuals and families are seen highly embarrassed. For his vibrant foreign policy and positive approach, I used to like Dr. Jay Shankar but during an interview he expressed sorry for wasting his time acquiring education (PhD) and confessed that he would have been better off studying Hanoman and Ram mythology. I seriously felt gutted and realised that all this higher education failed in carving out a civilised and sophisticated person. What a shame.
High illiteracy rate, corruption, unnecessary inclination towards Russia and clueless animosity with China are the big hurdles which will always pull India backward. Western countries look for broadminded and progressive partners. India just don't fit to that criteria.

Indian foreign minister has tried to match India with china by adopting by polar Asia policy. But the hard fact is that it is merely a wishful equation. India is at least 50 years behind china in all aspects . India must consider her domestic instability while trying to match china. There are about 40 different separistic movements like khalistan ,Nagaland Kashmir etc going on in India. Modis extremist policies towards religious minorities like Muslims sikhs and Christians is making matters bad to worst. This political instability is boiling up gradually . Now as far as economics is concerned ,china successfully managed to raise almost 50% of her population above poverty line in just 2 decades. While in India there are about 30 odd families controlling entire Indian economy. The real fruits of economic prosperity has not trickled down to masses. In fact 85% Indians are under poverty line ,barely managing two times square meals . 50% of population has no toilet facility . Suicide rate among poor farmers is on the rise due to heavy interests on loans by loan sharks. Reason for Indian importance is primarily because Americans wish to use India to checkmate china. This very point was high lightened by American ambassador to India in his remarks about India being in driving seat but having America in controling seat. Those very remarks clearly indicate the stats of affairs behind indias sudden rise in her geopolitical importance. She is merely being used as a trap to lure china in some sort of military conflict . This seems unlikely but would be suicidal for India if ever happened.

Lots of praise for China -- and I completely agree that China is a super power - and has been for many centuries. India is far behind for sure. Also agree that current BJP Govt placing a rather heavy emphasis on religion that is creating resentment in neighbors -- Maldives, Bangladesh. Even Nepal, Bhutan slipping away. The West (led by US) is also declining on a relative basis. Unfortunately, China is quite hostile to India - pressing us on the borders, opposing us on NSG membership, voting against us in the UNU Security Council - on and on. India has had weak Govt that has allowed separatists to flourish in the guise of "Secular" govt. Given this difficult scenario left by poor Congress Governance over decades, BJP has to gradually recover this sinking ship. While I agree that this should not be done at the expense of Minorities, the BJP is working hard to unify the Country and develop alliances with the West (Western companies bring the new technology - cannot depend on China for that) -- has good relations with Middle East (Islamic) Countries. It is a slow process - cannot right this sinking ship called India in a few short years - and certainly cannot look to China - given its obvious hostility towards us.

The assessment that all the three stages of industrial revolution happened in the west, is completely erroneous. To say that the Soviet Union disintegrated because it could not keep pace with the technology revolution in the west, is not only naive but grossly ignorant. The commentator should understand that Information technology can at best be a facilitator not a core technology. Soviet Union was the leader in space technology and space exploration. Soviet Union was the leader in the basic sciences.as well as in material sciences .In aeronautics and communication technologies Soviet Union was a leader. Nuclear energy was another area where Soviet Union was a leading force. In all core technologies Soviet Union was a world power. Soviet Union disintegrated because of economic reasons not technology.

The fact that US has played a hegemonic role in East Asia since the end of WWII is anomalous and unlikely to last long. Compared with India, especially before eternal the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishad and the Panchatantra, America is a young nation lacks of political and social experiences. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the US was so arrogant that bragged “the end of history” theory, and made colossal geopolitical mistakes such as invading Iraq and created a political vacuum ironically for Iran.
“The end of history” is not only American hubris, but also the utmost blasphemy of God. Nietzsche declared that God is dead in the 19th century, who is a madman after all, however. And America stripped the omnipresent and omnipotent of God - time only belong to God. That history is end means time is frozen. Why does America still need God's blessing? How could God bless a blasphemous America?

Mr Sawhiney, great review …. Self deceit is a bigger illness … realistic self realization is required to progress. The FM and his book are self serving , trying to curry favour with Modi Ji and further inflating his 56 inch chest.
Modi had the opportunity to lift 300 million out of poverty … he did not. China did. In China, hardly anybody defecates in the open. in India, women go into the fields to relieve themselves as a ritual. In one movie, Akshay had this as a subject, where toilets in homes were a taboo. Contradictions abound…. Reaching for the moon on one hand, and on the other, no clean water. Trains with hundred riding on the roof …. Foot pedaled rickshaws, poor and destitute sleeping on footpaths.
Yes - dream big, plan to progress but do not be dillusional. In Hindi, there is a great saying …. Apni chadar mein raho.

Why India and Pakistan Should Be Divided into Smaller Nation-States
India (Republic of India) didn't exist before 1947. Italy didn't exist before 1860. Turkey didn't exist before 1922, Germany didn't exist before 1871, Saudi Arabia didn't exist before 1932 and so on. Concept of Countries was invented in Europe in the 18th century. Before the invention of the concept of countries, there were only empires and kingdoms everywhere around world. Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Poland, Switzerland, Slovenia, Netherlands, lechesiten etc were created after fall of Holy Roman empire and subsequent kingdoms in Europe.
After the fall of the Ottomans empire in 1922, many countries were created based on their nationalities.Saudi Arabia didn't exist When Prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca.Turkey was created in 1923 and Saudi Arabia was created in 1932 after the fall of Ottomans Empire in 1922. Europe and Middle East was united under various empires and kingdoms for most of the history just like India. India was the name for the region east to river Indus. It was never a country before 1947 but a region or subcontinent where various empires and kingdoms existed just like in Europe, Middle East or other parts and continents of world.
Now the question is what is nation and nationality? A nation is a society that shares a common language, culture, and history and has shared interests. For example English, German, Italian, Turkish, French, Russian, Dutch, Spanish, Arabs, Persian, Kurds, Japanese, Korean, Punjabi, kashmiri, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Malyalam, Thai etc are nations and a country based on single nation or nationality or where a single nationality dominates culturally, politically, in economy and military is called a nation state. Most countries in Europe or 'civilised world' are based on single nationalities and are nation states or simply called nations.
There are dozens of nations within India and Pakistan. And hence India and Pakistan are union of nations or multinational countries. Nations are Punjab, Kashmir, sindh, Baluchistan, Gujarat, Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu etc. And in modern civilised world countries are created on basis of nationality like the countries in Europe (England, France, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Croatia etc) or in Asia (Korea, Japan, China,Thailand, Philippines etc) and Bangladesh etc are countries based on nationalities.
Among the 650 major nations in the world, the nations in the union of India are one of the largest nations in the world. After Han Chinese Mandrain, Spanish, Anglo Saxons English, and Arabic
      Bengali - world's 5th largest nationality
Punjabi- 10th largest nationality in world
Marathi- 13th largest nationality in world
      Hindustani- 14th largest
      Telugu- 15th largest nationality
Tamil- 17th largest nationality in world
Gujarati- 24th largest nationality in world
      Bhojpuri- 25th largest
      Kannada- 29thth largest
      Malyalam- 30th largest
      Oriya- 32nd largest
      Maithili- 40th largest
      Awadhi- 46th largest
      Assamese- 65th largest
Haryanvi, Marwari, Magahi, Deccan, etc in top 100 nationalities of world.
(Hindi, Urdu are not nationalities but artificial languages developed from Hindustani language and imposed on some nations in some regions, with only few native speakers. These regions have their own nationalities and languages. Hindustani is a nationality in western Uttar pradesh with Hindustani as native language).
Republic of India was created in 1947 out of the British Indian empire on the basis of two nations bogus theory. Two nations were assumed as Islam and hindusim. But in reality, Islam and Hinduism are not nations. India and Pakistan were not created based on nationalities but on two nation (Islam Hinduism) bogus theory. Hence, these countries are based on religions. On the other hand, Bangladesh is a nation state which was created on the basis of Bangla nationality in 1971 (5th biggest nationality in world). British empire changed ownership rights in 1947
Three predominant civilisations in Republic of India, Indo Aryans, Dravidian and Sino Tibetic ( North East nations in the Republic of India) don't share anything although the first two civilisations share religion hence religion is the biggest binding force of the country followed by Military Power which is used to occupy non Hindu nations (Punjab, Kashmir, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya) with the country. Most of Hindus in Indian subcontinent prefer religion over their nationalities unlike muslims (Kashmiri, Bangla, Baluch, Sindhi, Pashto) who identify themselves with their nationalities and even support nation states like Bangladesh.
According to research, Higher ethnic or national diversity within a country negatively affects economic growth through conflict between interests of various nations or ethnicities (Don't confuse the ethnic or national diversity with the multiculturalism in west due to migration, the migrants mix with diverse society and become part of nationality of the host country and work for the interests of the dominant nationality).
High 'nationality or ethnic' Diversity correlates with low GDP per capita.
Strong democracy correlates with ethnic or national homogeneity.
Punjab and Kashmir should be a free countries based on Punjabi and Kashmiri nationalities like Bangladesh. But Hindu Punjabis, Hindu Kashmiris and Muslim Punjabi don't want to leave unions of india and Pakistan, so Punjabi Sikhs, or Kashmiri muslims can't force them to follow to support the idea of Nation-States. Hindu Punjabis, who had deserted Punjabi language in 1951 and 1961 census by declaring Hindi as their mother tongue would never support a Punjabi nation state. They support a Indian state based on the Hindu religion. Similarly, Punjabi Muslims of Pakistan dont support Punjabi nation state either. They support Pakistan state that is based on Islam religion.
Similarly, Bengali Hindus and Kashmiri Hindus don't support Bangla nation state Bangladesh and Azad Kashmir and want to live in India which is based on Hinduism. So Punjabi muslims, Punjabi Hindus, Kashmiri Hindus and Bengali Hindus are free to stay in their respective countries based on religions. But similar to Bangla Muslims of East Pakistan, who created Bangla nation state Bangladesh without Indian Bengali Hindus, Sikhs have the right to create Azad Punjab (a Punjabi nation state) without Punjabi Hindus and Punjabi Muslims (and Azad Kashmir without Kashmiri Hindus). As simple as that.
We Punjabi Sikhs have no problem living in a Punjabi Muslims or Punjabi Hindu majority Punjabi nation state but non Sikh Punjabis don't support idea of nation-state unlike modern civilised world but a state based on religion.
The Punjabi speaker population of Muslims is around 10 crore. Punjabi speaking population of Hindus is around 3 crore (Punjabi Hindus in Punjab, Himchal, Haryana, Jammu and Delhi). Punjabi speaker Sikh population is around 2 crore. Hence Sikhs would be minority if both Punjabi muslims and Hindus or either one of them come form a Punjabi nation state with us Sikhs. We Sikhs have no problem living as minority in Punjabi nation state among majority Punjabi muslims and Punjabi Hindus, But their radicals minds prefer religion over their nationality and they love to give up their Punjabi nationality and adopt Hindi and Urdu nationality in order to create a state based on their respective religions.
So when Sikhs alone form a Punjabi nation state, it would automatically be a Sikh majority Punjabi nation state called Khalistan. What's in the name? We are open to change the name and keep it Punjab instead of Khalistan and also write the word secular state in constitution because it wouldn't change anything in practice. In practice it would still be Khalistan just like India is a Hindu rashtra in practice regardless of its official name or regardless of its constitution..

    • @SatpalVerma000
      @SatpalVerma000 6 месяцев назад

The base of India and Pakistan is religious hatred and bigotry. A country should be based on nationality like Bangladesh or countries in Europe but India is based on Hinduism. Bengali Hindus should join the Bangla nation state Bangladesh under their own conditions like great autonomy, 50% reservations for Hindus in parliament and army regardless the population size of Hindu and Muslims bengalis.
But Bengali Hindus would never leave india because they support religion over bangla identity unlike bangla Muslims who prefer their national bangla identity over their religious identity and left Pakistan for the sake of bangla nation. Baluch nation been trying for the same. Europe did same. Nations in Yugoslavia did same. Catalonia in Spain and Kosov in Serbia, Kurdish in Turkey, Kashmiri Punjabi nagas and all North eastern nations in the fake union of India been trying for the same.
Contrary to rest of the world, Indian Hindus don't care about their national identity but religious identity. That's why india is poor and Backward and would always continue to do so, because it's not a nation state but a multinational state (fake union of nations) and multinational states can never prosper because they would always be busy fixing their internal problems and their whole resources and energy would be wasted to keep the fake country united rather than expending the same on prosperity. See how Bangladesh is better than india on HDI and gdp per capita since it doesn't have to waste its resources and energy on defence and fights with neighbours or on internal disputes arising due to conflicting interests of various nations in the multinational state, where majority nation or nations try to exploit and prey on the resources and interests of minority

    • @SatpalVerma000

A country is a physical form of the identity, entity, ideas, fundamental principles and represents the interests of those ideas on which it is based, established, founded or created. For example the country Germany is based on the idea of German nationality and represents the interests of the German nationality. Similarly the countries, Italy, France, Turkey, Bangladesh, etc represent the interests of the Italian, French, Turkish, Bangla and nationalities.
Saudi Arabia is an modern empire in the form of country which was established on idea of Freedom of Self Determination for Arab Tribes from Ottomans empire which was dominanted by Turkish nationals. Saud's Arabia is one part of large Arab nation and is an empire ruled by House of Saud (a noble family of 2000 most influential members) and represents the interests of the Saud family. If country Saudi Arabia gets weaker, the power of Saud family would diminish hence they lose the supremacy and all privileges. Conversly, The power and influence of Arab nationality may become stronger and a Arab nation state might be established which represents the interests of Arab nation (unlike the interests of Saud family) just like other nation states in world.
The country Pakistan that is based on Islamic idea and identity, represents the interests of the Islam religion. If Pakistan becomes weaker or disintegrates, the power of the Islam hence muslims would become weaker in the Indian subcontinent. After the disintegration of Pakistan in 1971, the power and influence of Islam and Muslims in the subcontinent decreased, however the power and influence of Bangla nationality increased and it flourished. Similarly with the disintegration of Pakistan, although the power of Islam (the interests of the idea it represents) would decrease but the power and influence of the nationalities would be unaffected. The disintegration of Pakistan wouldn't weaken the nationalities (linguistically and culturally) forming the Pakistan but only the Islamic ideas and its power. The language and culture of
Punjabi, Sindhi, kashmiri, Pashto, Baluch nationalities would get stronger, Autonomous and empowered. So a country represents the interests of the idea on which it is based. If Pakistan gets stronger and influential, Islam would get stronger and more influential but doesn't mean the idea of nationalities within country would follow suit. Rather the idea of nationalities or ethnic identities may get weaker. The society may become linguistically, culturally, more homogeneous.
The country Bangladesh that is based on Bangla nationality, represents interests of Bangla nationality. If Bangladesh gets stronger, the Bangla identity, language, culture would get stronger and florish. The islam may get weaker since the foundation of the country is nationality not religion.
The foundation of Soviet union was communism. The state represented the interests of the Communist ideology, not the interests of nationalities forming the union. When the Soviet union got weaker, the idea it represented got weaker. Communism declined worldwide but the sense of nationalism among nationalities forming the Soviet union increased and they established their independent sovereign nation states based on their nationalities.
Similarly the Republic of India whose foundation is Sanatan religion (it was created in 1947 on basis of two nation bogus theory hence on Hinduism) represents the interests of the Sanatan ideology and identity. When the country gets stronger, the idea of Santan religion and identity would get stronger. The idea of nationalities and ethnicities (their language and cultures) forming the union of India may get weaker and country may become linguistically and culturally more homogeneous.
Hence we see that country is not mere a geographical area with a government. It is the physical representation of the power of the idea on which it is based or was established. So next time when you think of serving your country, keep in mind you are serving the idea on which country is based and whose interests it represents.

I learned in business school eons ago that problem-solving began with problem identification. Deng Xiaoping unmistakably identified China's problem when he came to power after Mao's death. The communist cadres' minds were shut airtight after decades of Marxist indoctrination. Unless Deng could pry open their minds to accept learnings from the outside world, China had no future. I can see Mr. Sawhney is an Indian patriot. He earnestly wanted to pry open the minds of the Indian ruling elites. I wish him the very best.

    2. Fate of QUAD ( which India is a member of) in view of Biden administration's recent efforts to patch relations with China.

What I don't get is why does India hate China so much when its only a boarder dispute unless its jealousy as they are able to forgive forget what the west did to India in the past.

The Link West started with Israel. India is providing labor, Capital as well as personnel for Israeli army. Videos have come out showing Indians soldiers fighting for Israelis in Gaza. Further India has followed the heels of US and UK in providing its naval ships in the Red Sea.

After watching both the video i understood that, everything this is just an opinion as of now, the same thing which is present as a victory of the current govt has been called a sham/blunder in here. Here it is being said that India is not powerful enough to compete with china and china is now the main superpower and the USA has become weak not as powerful as it used to be and india should work together with china. Other side believes India is not as weak to be dictated by other countries but considers to work more with usa instead of china, whose opinion comes out to be the correct one, only time will tell.
As of now i lean towards the current govt. India should work with usa but should not put it's faith completely in usa, i think this govt knows that but wants to use the situation between china and usa for its own benefit which it believes is more with usa as it will help india to be a pole in this current multipolar world but india is working with china in bricks and trying to bring an alternative for USA dollars. This govt has just chosen the fields in which it wants to work with china and Russia and in which it wants to work with the USA.
Being independent is what you want india to do but that is what the government is claiming to be doing. How well they are doing is the question? Only time will tell.
But i agree india needs to invest more in r&d, but i don't see a problem in getting latest technological knowhow from other countries, as developing indigenous technology on its own now will take time and money which India doesn't have now, same as china, only when its economy was strong enough then only it was able to invest in latest technology. And I don't believe if a state of the art technology which has strategic importance any country will agree to give it so easily. India should try to do both.

The Indian Government represents not only the over 1.4Bn Indians and counting in the country...
But Also the interests of the East and West of Asia to further reap the rewards of it's consumer population.
The Western World too is depending on India's and Indians' willingness to prioritize the interests of the West over it's own.
India's consumer population gives over $US300Bn ANNUALLY outside it's borders!
This Money would stay in India if Indians in India buy solely Indian owned goods and services.
From Toothpaste all the way to Motor vehicles. From Biscuits to Chapas. From laptops to mobile phones. From chocolate to clothing. From wrist watches to sodas.

India's world views are too simple! The world has never been unipolar, it has always been multipolar. China treats the world as a 194+ pieces chess game. Balance the pieces to achieve the best outcome for the whole of China's economy, not just their upper-class citizens.

AI is fast becoming a means to achieve mass mind control. This might work in a relatively homogeneous society like Singapore, but will never work for countries having numerous diasporas. To simply put it , AI capabilities can only be used for offensive purposes which will also have to be very human resources intensive. Also the ethical lapses that have happened will render much of the AI expenses as sunk costs with added penalties. AI is a risky bet which will only make the world more unstable as we are currently observing.
