India Army lost to China in 1962, never looked back. Stopped Pak in 1965, defeated China in 1967, broke Pakistan into two in 1971 that too in just two weeks. China couldn't help its friend Pak Army as they were defeated in 1967.

Between India and China there is only one issue, the border issue. Out of 14 countries, 13 countries had amicably settled the issue through negotiations except India. Negotiations needed give and take. I hope it will not be settled by a war again. It is a lose-lose situation.

The degradation of the Indian Military Forces is happening because of the YES SIR attitude of the Senior Army Officers. Their aspirations are high with no interest in ARMY & all are looking for their post retirement benefits of becoming Governor, Ambassador or joining Political party.
Army is a way of Regimented life for both Officers and Soldiers.
The Super Flop agniveer entry scheme should be stopped and Regular Soldiers recruitment should be conducted as per the original Army Service. Three entitled benefits of Retired Troops of ECHS, CSD & Pension to be given.
The role of the Indian Army is to fight war & protect the borders of the country. Nothing known as agniveer they are Soldiers. Financial cutbacks are no solutions.
It is man behind the machine who makes the victory possible through his years of experience. Machines can be manufactured again but there is no substitute for experience Soldiers.
ARMY Troops are the most suitable, physically fit, agile, motivated and have the best aptitude than any other SARKARI employee of any ministry who don’t even know how to treat their own citizens.
When there is a super weak COAS & Senior Army Officers at every FHQ this is how you get treated. Indians have never seen ARMY so weak and discouraged. Politicians know nothing about the Indian Military Forces.
Take it as a challenge and apply agniveer scheme on civil services and all government ministries. Just employ them for next four years.
Central Government for vote bank politics has opened gates of Army Cantonment & Military Stations for civilian traffic and selling Army Land to real estate for political interest.
When does Chief of The Army Staff orders to establish CMP Control Room, gates, barriers, check post & security walls of Army Cantonment and Military Stations for security of Army unit, equipment, quarters or establishments.
Stop civil persons, civil traffic & state police.
Central government has no desire for ARMY family’s welfare. Every ARMY Cantonment & Military Station has a shortage of quarters and they cannot be with their family. It is tough to get admission in schools and there are no colleges for them.
Soldiers need respect, on time leave, peace postings, admission of their children in schools & colleges, good diet which are just the basic. Soldiers & their families contribute a lot for the country.
Indian Military Forces are already short of Officers as there is no professional growth after a particular rank. The most talented also have to look for jobs in the civilian work place and that is how there is no retention. That’s why Officers & Soldiers going through such conditions for years have to take premature retirement.
Indian Army Day parade must be at Delhi Army Cantonment. Politicians from their state first want Defence Expo & now Army Day Parade.
Conduct Republic & Independence day in another states.
There are so many CAPF organizations which is ultra wastage of tax payers money. Their retirement age is sixty years why don’t you apply agniveer on them.

In my view PM Modi’s obsession with Hindutva and anti minority mindset has driven india to o only anti Pakistan military strategy I.e more conventional, troops on the ground approach. That's because Ukraine isn't China and Russia had quantity of weapons but was never technologically sophisticated China is too advanced and Ukraine was never advanced either
Russia is fighting 1980's war because that type of war has limited scope and capacity and it is a slow war. A war that eventually becomes one of attrition if there is no fast win. A war of attrition is greatly in Russia favour, in terms of men and material.

Counter arguement: Taiwan is facing existential crisis. But that does not mean Taiwan should divert all of its nation's resources to fight against CPC. Taiwan maintains sufficient force strength to inflict a high cost on invaders and to buy time for allied forces to intervene.
Likewise, India can not expend more than 2-2.5% of GDP. Achieving parity with PLA, PLAF, and PLAN is not economically feasible for India.
But since India as a nuclear power, possibility to PLA making a deep ingress into India may be ruled out. Therefore, India should maintain existing levels of expenditure, and inculcate defence partnership with like minded nations [US, UK, France, Japan].
President Xi has scrapped 2 term rule and has basically overtaken China. Top down rule stiffles initiation. Regional politicians, businessmen [Jack Ma] and military commanders are afraid to incur wrath of President Xi.
Quality of weapons produced by Chinese industries are suspect. Except for client states or sanctioned nations: there is little demand for Chinese weapons. PLA, PLAF and PLAN are untested in real war scenario.
In Ukraine, to digress, Russia has to do partial mobilization to raise new infantry division in Ukraine. Therefore, manpower is still crucial aspect of war fighting.

Excellent analysis, Mr.Sawhney. Indian leadership does not know French, the language you have used for your presentation. The top Indian military leadership seems like goofs and has no clue what they are dealing with. Mr. Sawhney, as you have correctly pointed out, there are two striking things: 1) They talk tactics and tactics. 2). Even if they know the most important thing for their country is to revitalize Strategic and Operational Spheres of war, they are neither saying nor emphasizing. Saying the right things would cost the next promotion, a lousy posting, and the loss of privileges.
The most alarming thing in Indian society in the past ten years of Mr. Modi's rule is that people at important political, bureaucratic, and military postings have forgotten to say the right things for their country. Indian military and its top leadership is just an example; shallow pygmies' personalities got promotions as CDS, COAS, and other vital areas of the Air Force, Navy, and Army got promotions. The calls for leadership became evident on TV Talk Shows and Discussion Forums. The top leadership has ruined the Indian future because of their incompetence and greedy personalities; the repercussions of leadership failure will cost the Indian people dearly. The conflict with China in the North will cost India over two trillion dollars in the next two decades in terms of lost opportunity, neglecting vital investment in poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, expanding technology exchange with the Chinese and improving trade ties, and buying outrightly unsuitable technology and weapons systems for the West, last but not least, joining the US, a declining power that is on the path to ruin itself and sink its allies in the South China Sea.
For the top military leaders to talk in terms of what Swahney wants to talk is to drift into the political sphere. The military leadership is aware of the bigger strategic picture .
Sad part is that Indian political bosses have no concept of military strategy in the modern age, so they are counting on the military leaders to design warfare policies, when in fact it should be the role of the civilian leaders. This became obvious in the recent Galwanconflict, the retiring COA in his book mentioned that the defense minister Rajnath did not give any orders but rather said to him ‘ do what you think is right’ and pure cop out of the minister’s duties…

Instead of preparing for war, India and China should focus more on creating lasting peace. First priority for both great civilisations should be building on their economies for the welfare of their people, then help the other third world countries through projects like BRI, or Indian economy corridor to achieve development, prosperity and mutual benefits. Confucius says: "A gentleman scholar should focus on cultivating good character in oneself, bring up a harmonious family, contribute to build and govern the country and bring peace to the world." In these 2 podcasts Mr Praveen Sawhney has done a great job outlining the contours of contemporary/future war, and existing asymmetries between China and India in domains like cyber/robotics/AI, ECM and space. He assesses PLA capabilities to be far ahead of India, where military thinking continues to focus on "platforms", and a tactical response in "air-land-sea battles" Hence the demand for more "boots-on-the-ground" and the emphasis on better operational coordination between the different defence services, rather than "jointness" which is what modern war calls for.
Hopefully his next podcasts will analyse weaknesses in China's military machine to help identify it's Achilles heel(s). After all, when confronting a more powerful adversary, it seems unfeasible to try to match it's strengths. Isn't it more strategic to focus on identified weaknesses in both the military and non-military domains?

The Chinese J20 and J35 are half G ahead of F35 and F22. F35 has never completed the fly testing before it started mass production, which is why it has 800+ problems to be solved. Its combat readiness is only 50%.

@@santhugowda7179 Su-35 is a decent fighter and Chinese AF is acquiring as many heavy fighters as it can in addition to its own J16, J11B etc. For any effective AF it requires both stealth air superiority fighters and heavy non stealth fighters for ground and anti ship attacks.
