Jim I want to send out a huge thank you. I recently lost my job and have a new baby, I don't even think they have these boards available anymore. So I would have had to buy a new dryer. Your video was exactly what I needed. Prayers for you and your family for taking the time to make this video to help others. Thank you!!!

Be aware that this is POTENTIALLY a temp fix... Internally these relays spark each time the heavy current flows through the contacts. This burns the contacts and causes heat. The heat can go down the legs and damage the solder contact to the pcb. Eventually that contact seperates. Resoldering the contact/ adding a strap wire will allow the relay to work again but it will still have burnt contacts that will steadily get worse. A long term fix is to replace the relay which normally cost around $10, then you should be golden for about another 5-10 years.

Jim, please know that you have made a difference in peoples' lives with this video. I had the dreaded F-01 error message this morning and was resigned to calling the appliance repairman. But I decided to Google the code and see what was involved. You headlined the comeback. Your instructions were spot on - I had the same splatter pattern on my PCB cover - and in truth, the hardest part was clearing out the laundry room and putting it back together!
I can't thank you enough for your help.

I just did this repair to my 10-year-old Kenmore He5t and it worked like a champ! Literally had everything I needed to do the repair in my garage. It took me about 5 minutes to have the machine opened up and another 5 minutes to do the solder and another 5 minutes to put it back together. The hardest part was cleaning out years of trash behind the drier and reconnecting my vent! Thanks for the detailed and informative video to save us all money!

Jim - thank you so much for making this video, when you could have just repaired it and gone on with your life. Your video was on point with everything. I borrowed my neighbor's soldering iron and solder. I did not have the cable you mentioned so I just soldered the spot that had exploded and it worked like a charm. Thank you again for making this video and thanks to my Dad for teaching me as a little girl how to solder many many moons ago. You saved this family an expense and my husband was extremely impressed I was able to repair it following your video so I wish you and your family good health, joy, happiness and God's favor and blessings.

I was on my way to buy a new dryer when I went to the Kenmore site and plugged in F01 and they gave me the circuit board news. Then I saw your video right below their site.... Thanks!!! Works great and hopefully for a long time.

Thank you. This tutorial talked me through fixing the problem. It would have taken longer to wait for the service man to come and to get it done than it did for me to fix the problem myself. The thing that took the longest was to take the back off so that I could get the screw I dropped inside the housing. Great job!

Our drier went out on Christmas Eve about 10:00 pm while my husband was playing Santa and putting together a doll house that took about 3 to 4 hours.
I didn’t even want to tell him about the drier, so I quickly searched the “F01” error code and found that it would, indeed, need repair. I found this video and was relieved that there was a possible easy fix.
Thank you for this EASY to follow video, my husband was able to easily fix the circuit board by using your instructions. He had some old phone cable with the perfect copper wire that he cut out.
You saved us a lot of money at Christmas time!!!
p.s. we enjoyed your humor with the “Jaws” music. 😂

Before seeing this, I opened up the lid and looked around, couldn't see anything obvious with the motherboard, but I didn't go as far taking it out of the plastic casing... once I did, I was very happy to see the same "blowout" markings as yours, exact same spot too....
Quick soldier job, and we're in business. Thanks again bud, I Appreciate it.

A friend across town called me knowing I was DIY kinda guy. She stated that her dryer had the feared "F01" code and that she heard a "POP" immediately before the failure. Watched your superb video Mr. Dandy and packed-up everything I needed to complete the repair. From arrival to finish ... maybe 25 minutes. The cost of repair: zero (I had soldering iron, solder, wire and tools) The feeling of helping a damsel in distress and riding away on a white horse a hero . . priceless!!!! Thank you Jim Dandy!!! After watching your video I went to local hardware store purchased a solder gun, solder, 16 AWG wire and tackled it exactly as you described in video. First time using a soldering gun and it worked!! Like others mentioned, the explosion splatter was very similar. I have a Kenmore Elite HE3 Gas Dryer. We've had it for almost 13 yrs and hope to get more milage out of it. We JUST recently replaced the valve coils, thermo sensor and flame ignitor (no heat) and it seemed to work just fine until we got the F1 Error code. Thanks to your video we're back in action!

Thank you so much! I was able to fix my Kenmore Elite HE5 Steam dryer after doing every test everything was pointing to the board, but seeing your video narrowed it down and I was able to solder and fix my dryer! I showed my husband your very easy to follow directions and we determined that he was going to follow your steps and fix our dryer for $30, instead of call for service and waste hundreds. My dryer quit, just clicked when you pressed the start button. I never would have considered looking at the circuit board until I saw this video. My better half was all ready to go buy a new appliance. I talked her into waiting while I did some research on RUclips. I watched this, popped my board out, and it looked exactly the same as yours even down to the blow out. I did the repair as you described and it worked!!! I had never used a solder iron before this. Thank you, ours quit last night when trying to pack for a trip. All laundry facilities in the area were closed so our options were pretty close to 0 until morning. About 15 minutes total repair time after watching your video.

We bought the He3t washer and He3 dryer several years ago. We purchased a service contract for the washer. No contract on the dryer. So far this has proven to be a good choice. This same exact thing happened to me yesterday on Christmas! Thank you for this video. It was a quick 15 minute fix and the best part, it was FREE!
I wonder what makes this happen to so many of our dryers? It looks like I'm one of many people who saved a lot of money by watching this video.
RUclips has saved me quite a bit on this dryer alone within the past year. Last year, I had to replace the rollers and the belt. Cost of parts was $40. I found a RUclips video for it. About 3 months ago, the heating element burnt out. The cost for a new heating element was $30. I found a RUclips video for it. Soon I'll have a brand new dryer! This one is about 7 years old.

+Rodney Snyder I don't know why this happens, but it appears the solder joint is not properly sized to handle the current, and every once in awhile there is a spike/surge that vaporizes the solder joint.
I also just replaced the idler pulley, belt and rollers on my dryer and made a video for this as well. Hopefully I won't have to make a video on replacing the heating element/coil, but it wouldn't surprise me. There is a kit that has the idler pulley, belt, 4 rollers, clips, etc. for about $50 at the local parts store or $25 on Amazon.

Great video! Thank you for not sharing 10 minutes of your life history and just getting down to the fix. Especially love the assistant at the end trying it out and the wife rejoicing in the background!
Had the same problem with mine and did the fix just as you showed. Took like 20 minutes!

Jim you are my hero! I fixed my dryer! Plus I used my solder gun for the very first time! I didn't have the wire like you used to reinforce it but we'll see if it holds. I was so happy when it turned right on after I put everything back together! Of course this happened the day my husband went out of town - so I broke a few nails getting the lid off the circuit board BUT I feel VERY proud that I did it all on my own. Thanks for the how-to video!

2019 and this just happened last night to the same exact model dryer. Followed the instructions and it’s currently drying my wife’s clothes. She couldn’t be happier. Happy wife, happy life. Thanks for this video. It deserves a people’s choice award...👍🏼

I'm so glad I found this video! Our dryer just showed this error and once we opened it up found that the back of the circuit board did indeed look like yours. After a few spots of solder and a few minutes putting the dryer back together, it's working again! 🙏 Thank you so much!

Hi Jim - THANK YOU!!! three years after you posted the solution yet again it worked! coming back after a week skiing only to discover the dryer does not work kind of ruins New Years... Quick troubleshooting, youtube, and your solution saved the day in less than 30 min! The fact my husband had the soldering iron, skills, and knowledge to actually do it is only a fraction of what makes you guys the best! the happy wife

Jim, This was the Jim Dandy of the advise I saw, and the one I followed. Work just fine! 2 hours total. Only one hitch in my model, there was one connector that refused to separate, so I place to 1 x 3 boards under the circuit board on top on the dryer shell, and soldered it "virtually in place". Thanks for your guidance. Doug

Thanks so much Jim!!! Fixed the F01 problem following your instructions. Then got an F70 error, which your other vid helped me diagnose (just a loose wire during reinstallation). Again, thank you very, very much! My favorite guitarist, Angus, thanks you too!

Yessssss!!! Thank you so much for this tutorial!! My husband and I both screamed with excitement when it worked. (Maybe a few tears.) saved us so much money and even gave us a little more confidence in the DIY department.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Mine wasn’t as “blown up” as your’s, but you could see that some of the solder was missing. A little bit of solder and a jumper wire and the old Maytag 3000 is up and running. I hope you have a glorious day!!?

This is as relevant today as it was nearly five years ago today. My Whirlpool Duet Dryer stopped working today with the F 01 error. I've owned it for 12 years and have never had an issue with it, but did not want to pay who knows how much to get it fixed. I opened up the dryer I did find that this was my issue.
I was handy with a soldering iron in my youth, decades ago, and still had a soldering iron, but no solder or wire. Ran down to Lowe's and got both (of course, I had to buy more wire and solder then I will use in my lifetime), followed the instructions here, and the dryer is working again. No hefty appliance repair bill and no waiting days for it to be fixed. Thank you!!!!

Late Saturday night...guests coming for the week in a few hours....Kenmore dryer throws a F01 code. Jim Dandy and his video to the rescue. Watched the video - exact same splatter mark. Added the wire (just like the video) and soldered the two terminals. Dryer works perfectly again. Big thank you!!!

Jim Dandy -- you are the man! Just got a quote for $450+ for this repair on a 8-year old HE5t Steam with 2-3 days wait for the part. I watched your video, headed down to Ace, spent $19.95 on soldering iron and 59 cents for wire. Tried it without the wire first, no luck. Then added the wire and working like a champ. I'm a decent DYI guy, but never worked on a control panel/motherboard/circuit board before, but with your video, this was cake. Used rubbing alcohol to clean the connections , back of the board and cover. Also, took advantage of having the lid off to clean out the circuit board and connections with compressed air and vacuum out the top of the dryer for extra measure. Thanks (and really enjoyed hearing the family cheer you on at the end of the video. Had my kids help out, and they did the same!)

+Jp Lj In hindsight I should have made it clear that in most cases simply resoldering the pin to the circuit board will not work since the metal foil on the circuit board often gets blown away when the solder joint pops/explodes. The jumper wire doesn't need to be very big (say #22 AWG), and being small makes it easy to wrap around the pin(s). The factory pins are not insulated so if you follow the path of the foil between the two pins there is really no need to use insulated wire, but it makes it look a bit more professional.
For those without much or any soldering experience the trick is to heat/touch the pin and wire with the soldering iron and keep touching he solder to the pin and wire until they are hot enough to melt the solder. You don't want to drop a blob of solder off the soldering iron onto a cold pin and wire.

I didn't read this FIRST and have tried to do just that...drop solder off the iron. And of course, it is not working. I did have the blown out area so I am convinced this is the problem. I am headed to ACE right now to get #22 AWG because I didn't try that. Can I repair from here? There is a glob of Solder on the pin now, how do I repair from here? Thank you SO much!

    • @jplj7013
      @jplj7013 8 лет назад

+Lana Irons you will have to re-melt the solder and then put the wire down and then resolder.
