  • What's better than fixing your dryer? A spare car key without leaving home! I started Tom's Key Company (tomskey.com/?u...) so you can get quick and affordable DIY spare car keys and fobs shipped to your front door.
Your dryer stops working and gives the F01 error code. I was able to fix mine without too much trouble - basic tools and a soldering iron. Get a new circuit board on Amazon USA: amzn.to/2Rq5CIn
    Amazon Canada: amzn.to/2Qe14UE
    (affiliate links)
If you don't have a soldering kit, they are useful for working on electronics and can be picked up for way less than an appliance repairman / repairwoman visit. Amazon USA: amzn.to/3uEkLnx
    Amazon Canada: amzn.to/3wIfnll
    Amazon UK: amzn.to/3mzkJdQ
This repair took me about 30 minutes and solved the F-01 error. It could be even quicker if I was better with a soldering iron. It's no fun having wet clothes and dirty laundry backing up. This error has been found on Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag dryers. Leave a comment if you have it on other brands like LG, Bosche, Samsung, GE, Fridgidaire, Amana, or others
Disclaimer - I am not an appliance technician and do not know the cause of this circuit board failure. There's likely a bigger problem on the circuit board that caused those points to burn out. Hopefully this repair does not cause me more problems in the future. The safest and longest lasting repair is likely to replace the entire circuit board. For me, this repair kept the dryer running.

Dude, you are a God amongst men. My dryer died last week with the F01 code. We had basically resigned ourselves to having to purchase a new dryer. My wife didn’t want to mess around with purchasing a new circuit board. I just watched your video, took the top of the dryer off, and it was exactly as you displayed. The exact same point on the board failed. I went to Michael’s and bought a $20 soldering kit, just fixed the connection myself in the dryer is working perfect. You just saved my family a major purchase. Legendary.

I got the same error on my dryer, which is the same model as yours. I watched your repair procedure and decided to give it a go. When I saw the same blown up connection on the relay, I thought “sonofabitch”! I gave it a quick solder, put everything back together and was back in business. Now my down blanket will be good to go by bedtime. Thanks for doing it. You’re astute. The world needs more stutes.

I just had this same problem (F01 code) on our Kenmore HE2 electric model. I did exactly what you did and cleaned out the duct since I was back there. Now our family can do laundry again without having to spend several hundred or several thousand dollars. Thank you sir!

I can't believe this worked. Wife tried doing laundry before heading to work. Popped up that same f01 on our maytag 3000. Instructions that came with the dryer said to replace the control board. I popped out the board like you did and found the same issue. Soldered it back together and it's working again. I couldn't be more thankful as you're the only person I've seen so far post about this issue and it seems to be a common concern based off the comments. Thanks again!

Awesome. I did this on a Maytag Bravo Steam dryer. For some reason there was one connector on the board I couldn't remove, so I left that one connected, and followed through with the other steps. Worked like a charm, and it didn't take a lot of time to do the repair. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the video! While i didn't get brave enough to attempt my own soldering i did learn how to take apart and find the circuit board, ordered a replacement and threw it back in. Still saved a bunch of money compared to buying new, and i love my dryer.

Thank you so much! Was about to buy a new dryer because a new control board was over $200 and wasn't going to spend that much on a 10 year old dryer (and not even 100% sure a new board would fix it) Mine was an old style whirlpool cabrio with the controls on the top, but the board and issue was the same.

Big win in my home tonight! Thank you so much.
The control board on our Kenmore Elite (unknown model number but probably ~10 years old) had a glued screw & one connection permanently soldered. So I couldn’t remove the board entirely, & had to solder the bad connection in place. Nonetheless, whole repair took maybe an hour & a half. As soon as I pried the control board up & saw that identical scorch mark, I had new hope. $30 for soldering supplies instead of … honestly, buying a new dryer, given typical repair costs.
For anyone considering this, don't be intimidated by the soldering step. I'd never done it before, but it's not much different than applying a careful drop of super glue.

That _was_ a stubborn solder joint. I found that gently scratching the circuit board trace around the "post" removes some of the burn, and helps the solder bridge better between the post and the trace. I used the tip of an Xacto knife, but "gentle" is the key word.

F-01 code but my circuit board is completely fine, no burn marks, and I even ordered a new board and it’s still giving a F-01 code. Checked and re checked all wires, not even so much as a scuff mark on any of them and all ground is good.

Should just change the relay. The contacts in the relay wear out over time like all relay contacts. When they do they draw higher amperage. Then the solder melts and causes the burnt board.

Did he mistakenly say "washer" instead of "dryer" at some point? Lucky you were able to point that out.
By the way, it's spelled "your" when you're using the possessive. "You're" is a contraction of "you are".
