    Wife notified me that dryer is broken. She smiled because we had this dryer 10+ years, and she went online looking for new one. I got an E1 and F6 error. Got the same click sound. After a few hours of troubleshooting, I found this video. Same burn in the same area. Soldered jumper wire. FIXED!! Shopping postponed again... LOL!!!

    Sir you just made my Christmas! I was so bummed to replace this dryer and dragged my feet all day until stumbling across your vid. Once I got to the circuit board and saw mine looked exactly like yours , I started getting excited. It felt amazing when I put it back together and it started right up! You seriously made my month, I've always considered myself a tinkerer but shared away from electronic issues. Not only did you save me alot of money, but you have me a huge sense of accomplishment. Thanks for the great video

    Great video! My Whirlpool Duet dryer, circa 2009 crapped out today with the dreaded F01 error. After trying to unplug, then re-plug the dryer from the wall to reset it, I tried your fix. It took about an hour, and honestly the hardest part was emptying the wet clothes out the dryer, disconnecting the electricity, gas, and exhaust connections, and with my husband, wrestling it down from above the washer where it was stacked in a closet. It was also a teaching moment for my teenager on how to solder PCBs correctly, as she still melts the solder on the iron and drips it on her connections (bad!). As I type, I can hear my dryer happily tumbling our clothes dry. This fix was so much faster and cheaper than calling out a repair person, or buying a new dryer. Thanks!👍

    February 2022 - this repair STILL WORKS, saved me a cool $1K! I have 16 year old Duet, got the infamous F01 code and motor would not start. It took about 45 minutes to do this very same repair and get our dryer up and running again. Repair tech wanted upwards of $500 to come out, troubleshoot, and do a circuit board replacement (which is honestly just plug-and-play component). My post was not as blown out as the one in the video, but I still ran a wire on top to be sure I had a good connection. Even took it back apart after I ran it for a while to check for evidence of any new arcing. ALL GOOD. Just take a trip to the store and price the new ones ($$$), you’ll be willing to try this simple repair!

The inside of my control board case looked exactly like yours. Soldered up a new beefy trace, threw on some conformal coating, reassembled and voila! Seems to me this should be a saftey recall with the amount of sparks that it was producing. Thanks so much for the video, saved the day.

    Joe, Just wanted to tell you that my dryer (11 years old) stopped working this morning and I got the message FO 1. Had no idea what the problem was and had a washer full of wet clothes. I went To RUclips and your video was the first one I saw. My husband, (who I lovingly call MacGyver, because like you, he rather fix something that throw it out or buy new) and I watched your video. This evening we took our Whirlpool dryer apart, following your directions, and put it back together again. Right now my dryer is humming away! My husband says he may have a “man crush”on you! 😊. We fixed our dryer for free! Thanks so much for your video!

    10-22-23. I watched this video after getting the F=01 error code on my Whirlpool Duet electric dryer. Took the top of the dryer off, then the control board easily per the video. After removing the control board from its plastic casing, sure enough - there was the blackened areas of the casing and on the bottom of the control board - just like the video. I cleaned the board and did a horrible job of soldering. Put it all back together and got the same F-01 error code. Checked all the connections… still F-01 error. Took it back out of the dryer, and once again examined my horrible soldering job. I compared it to the video and could see I didn’t quite make the complete connection to the right point. I added a bit more solder, put it all back together and, voila- it works. Thank you for the great video! A10 Pilot

    Thanks a ton Joe, for the clear instructions! I had the exact same problem with our dryer. I used a Dremel with a tiny wire brush to clean the lacquer off the damaged pcb track and to clean the relay contact post to accept new solder. Positioned the shopvac hose to extract any fragments while grinding. I added a thin piece of copper wire along the damaged track just like you did. I really like how the manufacturer placed the controller board in an easy to access location! I was able to do the repair without even moving the dryer.

    Ditto! Exactly my problem as well. It had the tell-tale burnout. Easy to fix. Use a small soldering gun for slower heating. I first soldered a small dollop of solder wire on the terminals and on the wire as well. It makes it easier to attach the wire when shorthanded. Thanks Joe, you are a genius!

    Thanks so much Joe. Like others commenting, I had the same problem and was able to solder in a jumper. Worked like a charm and saved me $396 (current retail price for OEM part)! I could hear the relay engaging, so was pretty sure the relay was good. Others have replaced this after just trying to resolder the contact. The relay is on eBay for $6 plus $4 shipping if you need one. That was going to be my next step. Thanks again!

    Outstanding tutorial, Joe! As an electrical engineer, I knew from your video exactly what had happened with the circuit, and it would make fixing mine easy, and that was accurate. Your descriptions were CLEAR, the fix was EASY, and it worked immediately after powering the unit back up. I re-watched the first 3 minutes, and the only suggestion I would make is to tell people to unplug the unit or turn off the circuit breaker before they start. (Standard safety protocol.) But your reasoning and your explanations were excellent, Joe. You would have made a really good engineer! Thanks for the video.

    My wife called an appliance guy to come out - he charged $80 and told her the mother board was shot and needed replacing. $200+ for the part alone. I watched your video and went to Wal-Mart to get a $10 soldering kit. I just added solder to the burnt gap area (didn't have wire to connect like you had), but solder alone did the trick! I'm sure it will burn out again, no biggie because I'll just use the wire like you did above when I get some available. Such an easy fix thanks to your video, but you'd think it were a complicated fix. Thank you so much - you saved me a bunch of money and got my dryer running right away!!

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 года назад +1

      I'm glad to hear it! Keep that soldering iron, you may run into other things like this too, most of the time when an appliance or an electronic device stops working it's something simple like this that can often be fixed with a soldering iron... since I usually work on pinball machines it's more in my wheelhouse than some people but if it's already broke there's no harm in taking it apart and seeing if you can find something you can fix on it :) Glad you got it working, it's a pretty good little dryer model.

    Thanks Joe! Our Duet Sport washer stopped working. Visually checking the control board finally revealed a tiny, vertical inductor bobbin with one of the hair thin leads broken. Years of vibration was the cause. I very carefully unwound a few turns of wire, scraped the insulation off and re-soldered it to the control board. A spot of glue was used to attach the bobbin like should have been done originally. Fortunately, I had access to a lab microscope but a good magnifier would work well too. Our Carrier evaporator blower control board had a similar issue to the problem you just described and was repaired the same way.
