    Howdy Brian, came over to check your channel out as I follow Mike on AutoVlog. He said you were filming his brake job on the F-150 and I wanted to see it as I am having a brake job on my Dodge Journey next week. I have 30,000 miles & it's my first one. Thank you for clearly explaining and filming this brake job. Mike is lucky to have an honest and talented friend such as yourself. I subscribed to your channel and will watch your upcoming videos. Good luck to you, but I'm still a Chargers fan.

    Hi Brian, Was wondering why you didn't suggest to Mike to have a GDI service done on his truck? GDI services are a keen essential maintenance that helps keep down the carbon build up on the intake valves and the throttle body. I was suggesting to Mike that he should get this done since he now has over 40K miles on his truck. GDI services are most effective when the chemical only needs to remove thin vapor film off the valves and throttle body. Plus won't need to perform this service over and over again when the carbon builds up when the truck reaches like over 150K miles.

    This is not bad....But there is a better way to do brakes. 1st you should have needle scaled the hub and put anti-seize on the hub and on all the bolts so for future use you do not have a chance to break the bolts. Plus you should have greased the slide pins. In turn for needle scalding the hub you remove the chance of the rotor sitting on any rust and warping the rotors. The other thing is to cut the rotors because these rotors are mass produced they are slightly warped out of the box and even though they may not feel like it on first drive some 10k or 12k miles later you need rotors again. The right way is to cut the rotors so they are sure not to warp. I have worked in shops all my life and have found this way to be the best and I have never had a rotor I could not cut straight out of the box and have never ever had a car come back with a break problem. As for cleaning the caliper brackets I use a sand blaster on them and brake grease on the part the pad slides on as well as a ceramic coating on the back sides of the pads where the piston or any contact is made with the back side of the pad(not on the pad material) to minimize the chance of break noise. Hope this helps. I was taught this way by a master mechanic and every place I have worked I tell them I do things the right way and ensure the car is done right the first time.

    • @PIPSBURGHVIEWS
      @PIPSBURGHVIEWS  6 лет назад

      While these are all great suggestions, I doubt you will ever see it done in a flat rate shop. Especially cutting new rotors. Nobody will ever pay extra for that. Only one time in my 20 year career have I ever had to cut new rotors do to warping. I do appreciate your comments, keep them coming!

    • @thatguyingreen315
      @thatguyingreen315 6 лет назад

      R230Tuner needle scaler works better. It's much faster and gets the rust off better. I work in Chicago Illinois. I never said it was wrong I said there is a better way of doing it. I've been through the school and I've even been through the union school here in Chicago and that's how they taught us to do breaks. If you do it the better way the first time it should never come back. My shop isn't cheap but we book two weeks in advance because people want work done good and they are willing to pay for it and wait. He did not do anything wrong with the brakes but there is just a better way of doing them so they last and work better.

  • @Vortechtral

    Question, would it be alright to put some anti-seize between the rotor and hub to stop rust from binding the 2? I've never seen anyone put it there, yet there has also never been any mention to not do it as well. Just wanted to make sure when I do mine to not do something I shouldn't have. I mean if you're tossing the rotors then it really doesn't matter if you whack it with a hammer, but if you're doing a general clean and re-lube then you may not want to smack anything with hammers is all.
    Thanks.

      Mike Palko I've seen this done before it's a great idea it really helps when taking rotors off

    • @PIPSBURGHVIEWS
      @PIPSBURGHVIEWS  6 лет назад

      Hey Mike. you can certainly use anti-seize sparingly and it will help with removal. Thanks for checking out the channel!

    • @angielskieduspot1358
      @angielskieduspot1358 6 лет назад

      Mike Palko, you definitely should not be doing that. Even tiny amount of anti-seize might get located unevenly around hub under the rotor and cause rotor to have runout. Also there is something, that Brian didn't show, but certainly have done that. After removing old rotor, you need to clean hub of off the rust and and debris to the status of "shiny metal. It's usually recommended to perform hub rounout check with dil gauge before installing new rotor and also new rotor runout check the same way, after you put new rotor. If you want to provent build up of rust between hub and rotor, you might spray light oil mist layer on rotor hub before putting on new rotor, but that's it. Good luck

    • @SM120THBORE
      @SM120THBORE 5 лет назад

      You can also apply anti-seize on the caliper bracket before putting the clips, then put anti-seize on the clips and your ready to put the brake pads, they will never seize. Brake lube is great but it doesn't last cause of temperatures. Also even if the slider pins move freely it doesn't hurt to just take them out, clean them and apply brake lube.

    Hey Brian great video! Very interesting. Quick question for you - I have a 2017 F150 2.7 liter ecoboost with just over 8,000 miles. It was recommend to me to install a "oil catch can" to trap all that blow back oil which makes it's way back into the crankshaft. What is your thoughts on this? Is just for long term benefits or what? Does this mess with the factory warranty? Do you recommend doing this or not?

    • @kennethrine8171

      Hey Mark, while it certainly couldn't hurt, in my experience I have only see benefits on modified engines or if you are constantly under load at high RPMS. The only way it would void your warranty is if the catch can failed and was the main reason for and engine damage. Thanks for checking out the channel!

I did buy a 2 year extended warranty, so I guess I'm good to go for the first five years. Probably will trade the truck in after that. Be blessed brother!
