  • this wonderful organ was orginally built by Father Willis and most recently rebuilt by Mander Organs. it has 147 stops and 9,999 pipes and is the second largest in the UK. The Willis organ was built in 1871 and had four manuals and 111 stops it was then the largest in the world.
    harrison and harrison rebuilt the organ in two stages in 1924 and later in 1933, by then it was extended to 146 stops and converted to electro pneumatic action. by 2002 the organ had a few issues with cracks in soundbards and leaks in the wind system.
    Mander organs carried out an extensive rebuild , new soundboards and new and larger wind trunks were added. the insturment then became four manual and 147 stops.
