I ordered these because I broke my leg and dislocated my ankle in a mini and just getting back in a board. I wear a decent size ankle brace to stabilize, so figured this shoe being a high would suffice. Looks like there is minimal padding on the ankle section which I’m looking for to get the brace into the shoe. Good review, really enjoyed it, thanks!

Ah man. Hope you heal up to 100% soon! A big part of my healing was some resistance band stretching. Strength training for my ankles is key for me these days. Thanks for watching!

Would you say these are a wide shoe? I have wide ass feet and always struggle to find a shoe that fits

These feel like $200 boots. I usually can't stand the Pop Cush insole in Half Cabs, but they somehow work perfectly in these - maybe bc of the cupsole. They're on that perfect cusp of style where they look simultaneously timeless and fashion-forward. I don't even wanna skate them! I've never been more impressed with a Vans shoe. Might even wear them on a date.
Regarding sizing: I'm somewhere between a 10 and 10.5 in Vans, but closer to a 10.5 these days, and the 10 in these fit perfectly with just enough wiggle room (and that's right out the box). So I'd agree with going half a size down. Hope they keep making these.

The Vans high top classics are my favorite skate shoes since 82-83' (my first pair) I just bought another pair on 9-1-22 and love them still!

      The Sk8-Hi?
I dug the AV SK8-Lo from back in 2011/2012. The new Skate Classic Sk8-Hi is not my cup of tea. Boardfeel isn’t really there and the outsole does not flex enough.

The whole high tops are for ankle stability/to avoid rolling your ankle thing is complete nonsense btw. I forget who invented that, maybe Nike.
You can see when that idea was invented and given up on in the way basketball sneakers evolved from very slight fabric and low top sneakers, to high top sneakers, and now back to mid/low top sneakers.
What mid/high tops will offer protection against is the board hitting your ankle or something similar (but of course mostly in more heavily padded models).
That being said, I love the Crockett High. They are very good skate shoes, and fit much better than the more famous Sk8-Hi if you ask me.

They help to a certain degree.. that’s why I landscape in 8” redwing boots and not low top chucks anymore. As
      your know when you roll
your ankles all the time that shit stretches out and easy to reinjure. Sucks getting old skate dad. Keep ripping.

They make a low top version that's mostly suede, I think it's new. There's still a little canvas on the sides, but they have more suede than canvas.

So I specifically looked up reviews for this shoe because I rolled my ankle and sprained the shit out of it trying tre flips recently and thought, “I wonder if high tops would help for when I recover.” Ope.
I bought some elastic bands for when I can start building strength again, but is there anything else you’d recommend for getting back on the board?

    • @SkateboardDad
      @SkateboardDad  2 года назад +1

Oh dang! I hope you heal up well!
You could try an ankle brace if you’re really concerned, but there are downsides to that as well.
My biggest advice would just to continue to strengthen your ankles, and getting a pair of shoes you feel support your foot well, and allow as much mobility as possible. I’ve been using the Tiago 1010s, and while they’re not my favorite style, I probably won’t skate another shoe again, because they work for me.
Whatever steps you can take to mentally stay comfortable are a huge help. I rolled my right ankle really badly, so I rarely jump down anything right foot forward. It probably doesn’t make sense realistically, but it gives me a little more peace of mind.
      Thanks for watching!

Not at all. Skate hi are vulcanized, meaning they got the typical very flat Vans feel. The waffle cup is what made me get back into Vans. Really like the Wayvee and hoping to cop a pair of these
