helga is one of my favs shown so far because it's like.... she's def learning, and you see time passing, and she isn't trying to make it like an ego thing where she only shows success. i like how she talks through what she's doing, what her aims are, and successes, failures and adaptations. there was one other girl i saw on an episode like this that legit seemed like she was trying to learn to skate.... it was in the same one where one girl was "trying to impress a boy". like helga, it seemed so real and so relatable and i just loved it.

pretty much same! it was a diff series that got me.... "skating for adults" or something and like the 2nd one in, i was like I NEED A BOARD!!!! and got one on order, then found ricky pretty soon after (braille first, which.... hey, at least it let me recognize the man himself when his channel popped in my recs.) and haven't stopped watching. figure that i'd get some mentals down first, and been doing balance board stuff in the interim. now i have board AND just cleared garage and am ready to go!

because it's a lot of pressure if you think you are in the way, or that people are trash talking you like it's damn highschool and cliques. and they DO do that. but.... gotta recognize it's not everyone and it's also not limited to skateboarding. practicing in a garage or at home or in parking lots to get basic skills first i think really takes the pressure off.

I seriously wish I was learning to skateboard in 2023. The amount of insights you can get just from a video like this make the sport much less intimidating to new skaters. That being said, I don't think I would trade the comradery and people I've met from putting myself out there and going to skateparks. I guess I'm happy to see skateboard reach new people and all the comments of people learning. It's the best activity.

I always explain that "your head turns first so you can see where you're going, then your shoulders follow your head and turn to that direction and THEN your legs follow your shoulders and the board just comes along and you don't need to even try to do anything. You go where you want, and the board follows YOU."

From my pov, you look like a star! I mean, the fearlessness (or so it seems, haha). I recently started myself (soon 34), and the fear of falling is what scares me to commit 100%. Then I see you, jumping up and down on the board, doing 180-twists and practicing shove its like it's nothing 🔥 On those shove its, I would've been so scared of landing wrong on the board and flipping over on my back. Which I've done while trying out powerslides when I couldn't even stand properly on the board. Fell right on my tailbone, and couldn't even roll on my back without it hurting for over 6 weeks. I know using the board as often as you can is probably the best. But here in Norway it's started to freeze on the streets, give it some weeks to a month and we will get snow. So, besides spending time on the board, have you used any other methods practicing your balance? Keep it up! Looking forward seeing your progression!

she needs to do tic tacs to get skate muscle memory:) switches and 360s, everyone should. kinda confuses me seeing so many modern skaters wobbly on their boards and u know its cuz of no tictacking and movement pivots were learnt. really creates the shoulder, hip and legs to become one to leanr any other trick or movement

6:49 THIS. this is what i meant about the encyclopedia of tricks, and also comparing similar ones side-by-side. i'm sure i wouldn't be the only one hitting that up OVER AND OVER. maybe it'd be good to do a version on *DaBoyz* as well, where you can see it performed by multiple people to see how it may look a little different depending on the skater. like maybe it's high or low, or fast or slow. those variations on a trick would be cool too. i saw something like that on the B, where it was a fast and a slow kickflip and that was the FIRST TIME i saw that mentioned even as a possibility. actually like the slow version because you see the board moving better and it looks cooler because of that.
(also mentioned this particular thing for content because it could easily be filmed while you're all in diff locations. you could even have the ricky version of the encyclopedia, the UZI version, the JD version, etc etc. then if someone bonds well with a certain skater's style or explanations they might use that one as the go to. so yeah, you could have the group version and solo versions. would be easy content and also good for popping up into the feed for people starting to learn tricks.)

5:35 woah she's right, that does look cool! i've only ever seen the other board pickup from the front. the other thing i saw today for the first time was something called a strawberry milkshake? DEF wanna learn that, it was like the board winding around the feet like a snake, on its side. (all the diff name variations on the normal stuff is killing me because it's done fast so it's hard to tell the diff just watching it. i only know kickflip and ollie.... all the other stuff it's like.... *can we get a beginner skater PRIMER that slows it down to show the tricks* and then also say why it's diff to a similar one? kinda like a trick encyclopedia episode. maybe a mini series. or like.... which handful of tricks leads to prep for another trick.)
