No pressure(flips)...sorry,had to. I'm just happy you haven't given up on skateboarding like all these others that were posting around the same time you were! You have a loyal subscriber in me! I'm still gonna find a way to get to Britain and skate with you!
Really recommend the channel SkateiQ for tutorials, the guy is an incredible teacher, totally changed the way I think about doing ollies in the best way possible
The guy who does skateiq is Mitchie Brusco and he grew up as a skate board prodigy, and is a legend in his own right. The best tutorials online for sure.
Hopping in to agree and plug the video title (links make comments disappear) "How to Ollie - The Only Ollie Tutorial You'll Ever Need". Hegla actually did some of the drills that SKATEiQ/Mitchie talk about in the video so good on you.
I really appreciate this man, because honestly, quitting for a bit and finding the energy to come back to it after a break is 100% part of a REALISTIC learning journey. Keep killing it
Not sure if anyone has said this, but look at your shoulders during these 180 turns. You're turning with your hips but your shoulders are staying in place. You need to turn with your shoulders first and your hips will follow. This will make 180's much easier.
You have a knack for this yt stuff, I genuinely smiled thru this whole video. Skateboarding is such a creative/chaotic learning process and you manage to articulate it so well, im invested 😎
hiyaa glad you’re back for fakie kickturns / fakie reverts, it’s a lot easier if you turn your shoulders before you start the turn. because your hips follow your shoulders and your board follows your hips it’s like a chain reaction. it also helps to create momentum so the turn happens faster. then you just need to lift your front knee and try the turn and it should feel easier xx
Thank you soo much for real skateboarding progression. There's plenty of videos where people do kick flips after a week (I know it's possible but I don't want to die trying to get this high after this short period of time). Anyway you're incredibly cool, remember that there's at least one person eating shit on a skateboard and getting back to it over and over again, who finds great support in your videos ❤️ please don't give up
Biggest tips i'd give you is to find a nice little skatepark to go and practice, you'll probably make good friends there that could give you tips in person (to me skaateboarding is a team sport). Fakie is also easier to get to when you've got a small bank to ride up and down, it's just your regular stance but going backwards ! Happy skateboarding :)
Killing it! You seem to be having so much fun and that's most important. One thing that really helped me early on was putting all of the tricks aside and just riding the board. We all want to Ollie, Shuv it, Kickflip, but being able to ride fast, down hills, around hard turns, and getting reaaaally comfortable on the board makes all of that so much easier when the time comes.
Started skating like 1week after finishing the skater series. Seeing this is premier is hitting me with some nostalgia... (I really enjoyed the series.)
This is actually cool. I've been so sporadic with trying to learn and I've felt pretty guilty about it ... but the Texas heat doesn't mess around and everyone's progress is different. Keep it up!
YAY IM LITERALLY SO HAPPY! You made my day by posting 🫶 I love how you make little adventures for yourself and how determined you are! You inspired me to get roller skates and now I'm in love ❤️❤️ thank you for being you
I just saw you on Ricky Glaser's channel, mate. Keep up the hard work because that's what skateboarding is about, working hard to conquer your fears, to achieve something at the end of the session. And walk away after all that hard work, feeling accomplished and satisfied. Knowing you've beaten yourself and progressed. Find some friends to skate with, Dan Webz is a good skater and will be a natural motivator. But if you know of any skaters within your skill level, invite them along too, because learning together can be a huge help. Rick says this in his review of your video, and I gotta agree with him. When you're trying to land something and are afraid of slipping out where you land on it. Try the trick on the grass, get it on lock on the grass, and then move it to the concrete.
Great to see you back on the board! You may want to practice shuv its with your carpet board to get your feet used to both landing at the same time with no risk of falling. Hope your next video is sooner haha
@@HeglaRUclips Right? so much fun. Shuv its are so cool, I love the feeling when you get it right and you feel the board rotate under your front foot and come back to the same spot. You see a lot of people jumping forward but it should just be a small hop up and down. Good luck!
Found this through Ricky. You have great energy, and this video made me pretty psyched to give skating another go. Never got very far, but it does look like so much fun. Especially riding bowls looks fun to me for some reason. Anyway, enough yapping. Subbed, hope you keep posting :)
Nice video, really cool to see a real one year progress :) In one month it will also be my first year learning and while I can only dream of having your ollie or hippy jump, I can tell you that the fakie reverse is really easy once you move the shoulders right, just use a bank to be in fakie with enough speed ;) Have fun!
I found you through Ricky Glaser. I think you're really cool and inspiring. I'm starting to learn as soon as I have money for gear. So it's nice to have this archive of your improvement for me to watch and learn from.
Holy shit she lives! Haha we knew you were in school, well I did anyways, you kinda say it in all your skating videos! I'm so proud of you for getting that degree!(Hopefully) And for continuing to skate!Your Ollie's are getting really high! The main thing with a revert isn't so much lifting it up as it is sliding the board around, you'll get there eventually I had to hurt myself a lot before I learned reverts. I was so ecstatic when you said you found the secret to shuvs! Now just move that front foot out of the way literally straight up in the air and scoop with that back foot! You can do it! P.S. your new hair cut looks super pretty I love it!
I watched your videos when I was 10-11 because I wanted to learn and have someone relate to me as I had difficulties with learning how to skate. I'm now 14 and I absolutely have no idea how to skate anymore. Gonna start again since im in the US officially now! manifesting I have good luck T_T
I literally just picked up skating two weeks ago so I’m completely new to the sport and watched all ur progress videos and it motivated to keep trying 😭😭😭 and then i see u uploaded a new video!!! My next challenge is rollerskating 😭 i bought a pair during the pandemic and saw ur video at the time as well!! but never picked it up bc of the fear of falling/breaking a bone 😭 but that’s the next thing I’m going to tackle
Hegla, My mind is going on rapid fire on what new tricks you learned since your last video. "Did Hegla learn how to Ollie up a curb?" "Did she do a kickflip?" or "Ollie off the top of a roof?". I am so excited. 🥰
Great vid! keep at it. Congratulations on your degree too! You're trying to ollie with your whole foot. You really want to pop with your ankle, not your leg. You want the ball out your foot in the center of the tail. A year between skating is a lot, haha. You kinda have to figure it out a little again. Consistent ok practice is far better than infrequent prefect practice. Even if you only skated for 20 minutes every week, you still would end up with more time on the board than you did in those few days. I get it though. It can be tough. Life definitely gets in the way. But, it's worth it. Life is better with a skateboard, for sure!
Besides flat ground tricks, you can also trying just cruising around your neighborhood or cruising around a skatepark or ramps at the skatepark or a bowl if you have one around. Figure out which is the most fun and motivating to you personally.
Heyy, I just wanna say I literally was and am in the same situation as you. A lot of skaters just can’t understand that some people just don’t have time to practice everyday, so they are surprised that I am still working on kickflip after more than 3 years, so that can be kinda annoying. But remember, the point of skating is just to have fun, and most importantly not to die😅. When I started skateboarding I gave up shove it and just learned it recently because I was annoyed that I still couldn’t land with both feet, but I learned fakie shove it instead.(I recommend you trying it too😊) So yeah, have fun basically
this video is so relatable. Im also on a similar skill level as you and my session basically look almost the same haha. I do manuals too when i try to do ollies while riding not bc I think it helps my ollies but bc it helps me get more comfortable on the board itself. hippie jumps are good tho. helped me with commitment. and for the fakie reverts I think they are actually super easy as long as you can ride switch and do normal kickturns bc if you think about them you do the turn with your back foot in your regular stance which makes it feel like normal kickturn. thats why I personal also struggle with normal reverts. they feel more like you do them off the nose and then you also land switch 💀. I hope you find more time to stay more consistent tho 🙏
I saw you getting back into learning to skateboard from reaction video of Ricky Glaser. It was good to see someone getting into it. I see that you are trying to get shut it-pop shove it down. There are a couple other things that are similar that you might want to pick up in time. No Comply & variants and Strawberry Milkshakes are similar moves. The MOST important thing... have fun.

When learning moving ollies its easier to have some sort of objective to ollie over. So maybe a painted line in the ground at first, then a twig, then a stick, getting bigger and bigger. Also ollieing up kerbs is probably easier than ollieing over something and feels amazing
hey @HeglaRUclips just found this video you are doing great for a beginner i skated for 15+ years a few tips for the future 1. you are right you will fall and it is okay you will learn to land on your feet 2.for the ollies while moving i know it sound counter preductive but it really helps with more speed it took me 3 years to figure that out 3. what you where trying is a switch fakie revert you do not have to do it switch fakie just means moving backwards and 4. if you want to ollie higher you need to bring your front foot back down the board more because it is the front foot that levels everything out so further back means more time to go up i hope these little tips help you i will sub to watch your progress and again your doing really really good for just a year
Mad props for learning to push switch so early, but you don't really need that to start learning fakie stuff! The easiest way would probably be to roll up a small incline in your regular stance, wait until you lose speed and start rolling backwards, boom you're rolling fakie
You should try to ride forward on your board then revert so you’re in fakie position and then shuvit. I found that easy and exciting when I first started skating. Its like a little beginner line.
Great to see you back on a skate! I just watched your first skate vids like few MTS ago so it wasn't that bad ✌️ Ps: won't your cars toolkit have the socket for the trucks?
Try pushing mongo when going fakie then when you get used to it start pushing switch. Pop shuv, try jumping where the board is going to land and the pop is all in your ankle.
Look at your back foot at 10:23. You're putting your whole foot on the tail. If you look frame by frame, you'll see that the last thing to leave the ground is the tip of your foot. Which is almost out of the board. Try putting only the tip of your foot at the edge of the tail (look at some "how to ollie" videos and pay attention to the position and angle of their back foot). That way you can put much more pressure on the tail and you'll jump more naturally, as you would on the ground. Also, on your 180s. Use your upper body. Build momentum by throwing your front arm in the direction you want to move (like you're punching the air), then turn your upper body, and then your legs will follow. It's hard to explain through text xD
I thought it said after 1 year of skating. Taking a year off is not going to help. I like how new skaters have to talk us through every second of their skating in these type of videos as if we can't tell what they're doing. Just have fun and don't skate for any reason, just do it. I'm not hating because tons of other people do this type of video. I just think it's funny sometimes. Skating can take like 5 years of dedication to be any good at it. Just ride around and don't have high expectations. Stick with it, even if it's just 10 minutes a day.
Tighten your trucks, learn to run onto your board, jump onto your board, push at max capacity, reach your speed limit then go faster, learn different methods of breaking and go recklessly fast. The closer you are to your limits, the better you get. Speed really is the defining difference, and it will help you get through the plateau you're in. Trust me, tricks can come later, the best part of skating is riding. Been skating since 1998
So glad you’ve got back on the board 🛹 the fakie revert bit made me laugh, in a good way but shared the joy of you accomplishing it 😂 I’ve only been skating a year
Awesome you are trying again. Id say try not to end your session on a slam even if you get back on and ollie once then stop. Have you talked to Ricky yet? He can help for suure! Keep it up

Go ask the people at the local skatepark for tips, they will be more than happy to teach anyone who is willing to learn.

Trust me, tricks can come later, the best part of skating is riding. Been skating since 1998
So glad you’ve got back on the board 🛹 the fakie revert bit made me laugh, in a good way but shared the joy of you accomplishing it 😂 I’ve only been skating a year
Try doing a nollie fs shuv-it whilst moving. You will most likely find it a lot easier to learn than a regular shuv-it whilst not moving :)
I missed her
She seems pretty cool ❤
shut up youre too nice
just watched rickys reactions to your old videos figured i would check your progress and noticed you just uploaded, keep up the hard work
THANK YOU!!! it means a lot
well at least your style got a lot better..!
Awesome you are trying again. Id say try not to end your session on a slam even if you get back on and ollie once then stop. Have you talked to Ricky yet? He can help for suure! Keep it up
SO EARLY BUT YAY
It's just one of those days when you don't wanna wake up
Everything is fucked, everybody sucks.

So I finally got back on my board after almost a year away and it's harder than I expected! Hahaha but I'm slowly getting back all the things I used to do! I'm learning that kickflip!
Great job

53 yr old skater here with wrists that still work BECAUSE I always wore the wrist guards....in 10ft ramps and pools, mild brag, lol, ,but a fall is a fall no matter the height.
