I’ve tried to learn to throw a cast net a few different times and a few different ways, and I just never got it. Plus I had very little success and couldn’t throw anything resembling a circle, so I gave up on the cast net. I watched this video today though and idk it just clicked, very simple process, thank you man caught my first thread fin in the cast net today and was thrilled

    Captain Mike,
I bought my first ever 6' cast net the other day, and I looked for how to videos. Yours was the first one I opened. I tried your method and bang! It worked like a charm! It felt so natural and intuitive. Thanks for a great tutorial!

Thank you! I have had an 8 foot, 3/8" mesh cast net for fifteen years and never used it. I watched your video and practiced your technique over the weekend and took the skiff out today to cast for shrimp. It worked! My casts are not 100% perfect, but the net opens 80% of the way 80% of the time -- good enough, and I am getting better -- and I occasionally get a perfect one. It is a great skill to have. Your video is much appreciated!

I agree, I especially like that I don't have to put lead anywhere near my face. I was throwing pancakes in my front yard and then of course, couldn't get the net to open when i was in the boat... damn pogies were ramming into the side of the boat and I kept coming up empty.

I have read the instructions multiple times watch hundreds of videos and none worked. This is the method, works every time. This is by far the easiest way to throw and fully open a 6 to 8 ft net. I’ve tried all possible ways and this is the best. The triple load method is complicated and requires tons of practice and only needed for 10 or 12 foot nets.

Been throwing cast nets for over 40 years but still stuck on method taught by grandfather. Watched many vids and takes lots of free advice but nothing seems to make me better or faster. I've watched your vids on up to an 8' and have been practicing. Very nice and love throwing from right hand forward motion while watching bait. Thank you. I'm definitely going to subscribe and watch more vids
Good education without the BS, moves along in at a good pace, I feel like I'm not 8 years old and the educators delivery doesn't confuse people. I watched the vid twice and was in the yard practicing.
Thanks again and yes, I will keep watching.

This is by far the best net method I've seen and i would say it took about 5 throws to get it right. I was throwing my 8 footer in the park last week and a guy across the road came over and asked me how i was throwing it so well, he disappeared over to his boat parked in the yard and asked me to teach him with your method. Captain Mike, you are a legend.

I put your way to the test on an 8ft castnet. I compared it to another castnet method. Your method was faster loading and opened the net wider. I did it on a brad new net fresh out of the box and not smoking in fabric softener. Very smooth. I live in Indian River County and catching live bait is a must. The mullet run is coming up in September. I have been crushing tarpon at night on live mullet and greenies in the Fort Pierce Inlet area. Your videos are great and I have been recommending them to beginning anglers. Keep it up.

I just bought my first 8ft cast net. Prior to, never tossed a net. After watching both the step by step and seminar clips over and over, I gave it a try. In a day I was throwing oval, working towards pancakes. For me, the secret was in the secret sauce, took a bit to grasp the concept.

Great Video Sir! I can't wait to start practicing tomorrow. One thing I noticed after watching several times, you rotate your right hand from palm up to palm down when crossing your chest. This seems to give the net a little more torque to open and clearly throws the line out of your way to the left. You do this every time, probably without even thinking about it. Thx again for taking the time to teach us.

I looked at a bunch of other videos on how to do this without putting the lead line in my teeth (lips) and all of the other methods didn't seem to work for me. I came across yours and VOILA! Got it to open close to perfect circle first time which I am sure will only get better with practice. I appreciate the time you took to make this video. Thank you.

    Capt. Mike,
It's funny, I watched this video last year, followed the steps, and it didn't work on my 7' Betts. Then, your vid popped up again today, and it worked perfectly. I figured it out. I wasn't grabbing the half of the net that crossed over in the middle to make the upper level, but was just letting it hang. When I grabbed it in the middle, to make the "two levels", suddenly it works perfectly every time.
Because you just use your arms and shoulders, this method is more tiring, but it works great for lighter nets! I still use the teeth and spin method for my 10 and 12' nets, but I'm about to re-watch your big net videos, and I'm guessing they will work, now that I'm thinking right.
Thanks for taking your time to teach others.

Will this work for bigger, heavier bait nets? If not are there any other videos for throwing bigger heavier nets in 5-10’ depth. ?? Thanks

Captain Mike, I ran across your video as well as a hundred others on throwing a cast net, everyone seems to have their own spin. In the end its what woks for you. Anyhow I tried your method as it seemed about the easiest to load the net than others that had like net in my mouth or two groups of led on over each shoulder. Anyhow I practiced your method for few days and kept thinking what I was doing wrong that I could not consistently get a full spread. In my head I understood that one group of lead had to go one direction the other group another and the leading end in your hand had to trail so it was forming a triangle in a way as you release to get a full spread. I think the one key component in you video you let out that would get people to catch on quicker is for them to understand do not try to just chuck the net straight out into the water but there is a release method. You must throw and release in a circular motion as you toss so you get the lead leads goin in two different directions as your trailing hand just barely hangs onto the last piece of net. Once I figured that out you loading process is a breeze. After about 4 days of off and on practice I got, throwing an 8ft net, matter of fact I think I could easily throw 12ft net now. Anyway appreciate the video it got me started in the right direction.
