Reminded me of about 15 years ago we were fishing about 60 miles offshore of Texas around a triple processing platform, when some Vietnamese pulled up in a boat which looked like a longliner's rig. They started deep drop fishing and soon caught about a 10 lb red snapper. Then they threw some chum in the water and attracted a huge raft of Bermuda chubs near the boat. Then they took a large cast net like this one and threw it over the chubs. The net was filled with chubs so they could not pull it up on the boat. No problem. They wrapped the main line around a cathead, used to wench in a big load, and dumped about 200 lbs of fish on the deck. They did one more cast and took off straight offshore toward the edge of the shelf.

Many years ago I was in Florida with my friends family and we were messing around throwing the cast net late one night. I threw it and a huge shadow came up and then down and I ended up catching a huge snook! It was one of the coolest experiences especially as a little kid 30 years ago!
I drooled all over myself!!🤣🤣 And the net catch was completely nuts lol lol.

We sure don't have alot of super large fish, but the scenery is wonderful. I'm in Ruidoso,NM. We have Grindstone Lake and Alto Lake. Both are stocked with trout I love to fish those lakes, but have a tendency to be over fished.

Ive found that pretty normal for tarpon fishing, they got real hard mouths aye. Got to make sure those circle hooks are real sharp.

if it was me I would be using some different hooks{even a big treble}big "mustad circle" hooks, then went u set the hook dont keep jerking it keep a nice tight tension with lite drag, and tie on 3-4 feet of some of the highest string u have 50 braided or better. Good luck!
Know I am late to the party, but I was hollering at the screen as to why they are trying the hard set with circle hooks. You need to let them eat it and reel down and it will hook them in the corner of their mouth.

It is usually not legal to take a game fish using a cast or dip net, only baitfish species.
In Stuart I’ve caught all three of my massive tarpon on half a mullet. In Fort Lauderdale I’ve caught them on half a horse ballyhoo
