I think this is one of my favorite videos, the way you just told that one chilling next to the net “get out of here” and he immediately swam away, the big one that turned around and wanted to fight, the gars that were literally just sitting in the net not even stuck. Hilarious

Where I am every lake/pond you find is stocked with the EXACT same kind of fish. It's always Catfish, Largemouth bass, Bluegill. If you get REALLY lucky someone might have Perch, Bullhead, or green sunfish. My brother was looking at a property that has a lake with virtually no fish. He wants to be an outlier and stock it with Gar and Bowfin.

Abandoned fishing nets are some of the nastiest things for animals to encounter, props to you for taking the time to pick them out!
I couldn’t leave them in the net. That would’ve been terrible.

Thanks for taking the time to release them. I can’t recall how many times I’ve found dead gar that got tangled in nets and rigs and people just ditch the whole rig because they don’t want to deal with it. Which in turn gets other things stuck too.
No problem, I wasn’t about to kill a bunch of fish for no reason.

We catch peanut bunker like this. Last year I caught 91lbs in one throw. But never in my life have I seen that many gar in one spot. That’s one crazy catch👍

We had dolphins chasing migratory schools of bunker and Atlantic menhaden off the beach, and the fish were so thick you could literally catch them bare handed. I only know the weight because I ended up selling some to my buddy who owns a bait and tackle shop. Tbh imho…Your catch is way cooler than mine was. My fish weren’t finger biting, net destroying, aggressive dinosaur fish. I’ve never seen so many gar caught in one spot. Do they brood like snakeheads? Sorry for the book😂 Very cool video though👍

some day some one will ask you “what was your luckiest catch” (in terms of fish) this will be up there in the top three i’m sure. was it annoying? yes, picking all those gar out would have been very annoying. was it what you were looking for? no, not remotely. did it really mess up your net? undoubtedly, looked pretty bad from here. but how many people in this world can say they cast a net looking for baitfish, and somehow pulled up and anglers wildest dreams. the sheer dumb luck it takes to find that many gar in your net, dang. kudos on potentially having world record for most gar caught in a single net cast

Sorry, gotta stick my two cents in here. Swampers in Louisiana don't usually use nets for gar, they use shark hooks, mainly because they're going for size, but also, it's easiest thing in the world for gar to slice up a net. You've seen this probably many times guys either running heavy trot line with big hooks and bleach jugs or just whatever kind of jug they like, the lids screwed on tight so the jugs hold air to keep them afloat, and rigged with heavy line and shark hooks. They drop them in and lay out a lot more than they hope to catch then circle back later and pick them up with boat hooks. Gar will cut you up, be careful handling them. Good luck.

This reminds me when I accidentally got 300 crabs In my set net. Took multiple hours of cutting them all out, they wouldn’t get go of the net and had tangled themselves really badly

Man, 2 years ago and still one of the wildest fishing videos on RUclips. Also, I was fishing with my Dad when I was younger, I pulled up a Gar, thought I could just grab it, and bloody thing bit my finger so bad we had to get it checked out by a doctor
