Thanks for the video! I just moved from Lowrance to the Helix 9 last week. I’m completely in over my head right now. I just installed the same unit last week. The install guide explicitly with a warning sign stated I cannot turn on the unit unless you are in 2 feet of water or it will ruin the transducer. I don’t know, but I decided against turning it on in my garage until I talked to Humminbird.
No problem. Your going to love your new helix unit. If you are worried about it you can turn your sonar off and it will stop the transducer from pinging or you can just unplug your transducer while u get used to navigating around the unit
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
I'm thinking of buying my first fish finder. It will be a helix 5 g3. It will be used exclusively for ice fishing shallow lakes. Is DI or SI any advantage or worthwhile. It would be cheaper without them.
Really if you are only using it for ice fishing di or si wouldn't be needed. Expecially on the helix 5. I personally would get a helix 7 used before a 5 brand new. You will be much more happy with the screen size expecially if you use it on a boat one day
Related question. I’ve got a small open boat so I ordered the 5”. Are the instructions in this vid the same for all HELIX models regardless of screen size?
I've watched most of your videos on setting up the Helix 7 and haven't seen anything about removing these annoying vertical grid lines from the Side Imaging display. Can you help me here?
Thanks yes everything is swell. Just working in being a first time dad right now then I'll be back to throwing down on a bunch of new humminbird videos
How's it going? I have 2 helix 7's and the cockpit one had side image and I use it to do the auto chart live. I have the units networked, on the bow unit I change the GPS setting in the network menu so I can see the cockpit chart. Once I did that the auto chart doesn't show up on yhr bow unit. Is there a way that I can auto chart from one unit in the back and it's shown on the bow unit? Thank you gor you time Eric
Does anybody know if the fish mart app is open working correctly now? I still have it on my phone, and I used it last summer to do all the updates on my graphs via Bluetooth through that app.. and it worked flawlessly! I know that the app still works if you need to call back to talk to customer service or anybody about your graph, but does anybody know if any of the other features are working?.. good video!!!
If it is a chirp helix 5 unit you should be able to use a y cable with the helix 9 transducer. I've never tried it but Google humminbird helix transducer compatibility chart and has a list of all the models
Little more advanced question, I want to upgrade to a Helix 7 msi. Currently have the standard si and I'm not overly impressed but it's the low end and I knew that. Will the 7 msi have enough clearity to see fish and such or just make structure and cover pop even more. Next if I get a plain Jane g4n 2d gps you said they will link and side image will show in both is that true?
Yes u will def be able to see fish on the 7 msi easier and better than u can on the old standard si. If you got a g4n chirp gps u could have si on it but it's not going to be that much clearer because the standard ducer. You would be better off upgrading for the msi unit even if it's a g3n. Also it has to have a n, the g3 and g4 units are not networkable
I would like to link two knew g3 or 4n units one in the front one in the back ( tiller boat) was wondering what I would be able to see. If linked them. More for the GPS and shared waypoints, but was curious what I could see. Don't plan on using a transducer on the front unit. I power fish musky 90 percent of the time.. River walleye in the spring I fish from the back.
Any changes you making simulation mode just to try to get different looks and feels.. do those changes save and translate over once you take it out of simulation mode?
I have a question and sorry that it doesn't pertain to this exact video, but I am hoping for you or maybe one of your subscribers to clarify for me. I either read or heard it is not good practice to run your depth finder(s) when the transducer is out of the water. That it is or can be damaging to the transducer. Yet I consistently see professional anglers such as the Elite series pros, MLF pros etc., pull their trolling motors out of the water to move to another area, or when launching or pulling out of the water with their depth finders still on. It doesn't seem to matter what brand of electronics they are using (Humminbird, Lowrance, Garmin, etc.). So, is this an okay practice or should they be turned off to minimize or mitigate any potential damage? Just to clarify I am not asking is it okay to leave them on when trailering down the road or storing when returning home. This is more directed to stowing the trolling motor to run from one spot to the next, or even tweaking your depth finder while still on the trailer prior to launching the boat. Thanks
My Helix seems to be “stuck” I powered the unit on just like you did here in this video. When I push the “View” button nothing happens. I have had this (new) unit n the water twice. The last time I thought I saved 3 different views ( 1) side image, 2) down image and 3) 2D) but those seem to be gone now. The screen seems to be frozen. I can get a chart view, but it does not move although the boat is moving. I tried pushing buttons for an hour. I read the book out of the wter (again) but nothing addressed this problem. I did manage to get a combo view one time of a chart and side imaging, but the side imaging half off the screen was just blank white. No color, no detail. Just white like a bed sheet. I have no idea what that means. This Helix SHOULD have about 20 different views. Mine does not. I don’t know why. I did notice that the depth display did not change as I was going along. It just stayed at 52 feet. The speed did not change. It stayed at 4.2 miles per hour no matter how fast of slow I went. I have no idea what I did to this, but this is not right for sure. Ideas?? This is a Brand new boat for me. It took me 3 years to build. I did all of the work EXCEPT the dealer I bought the motors from hooked up the motors (2), hydraulic steering, and the fish finder. So I know its wired correctly. I am not sure this unit if defective, Or I push some weird combination of button to put this into some sort of mode I don’t understand. EXIT, MENU or any other button does not seem to work right but I can toggle back and fourth between 2 screens and one of them is GPS Test (or something like that). I am at my wits end.

I just odered me a helix 7 MDI g4. Cant wait to play with it in simulation mode.
Heck yeah! The only way to get used to your unit. To many distractions out on the water!
@@HumminbirdHelp Yes, sir!!!
Need to see you back on the water man
I here ya, I've been getting out just not doing any recording. Have limited time these days lol
Great video. Is there a place to see what the different views are before your turn then on/off?
My bad, a minute into your video answered my questions. Sorry for jumping the gun.
Oright buddy I’m thinking of getting the helix 7msi g4
would I be able to see fish on the side imaging or is the screen to small to see them cheers👍
Great video thank you very much.
Can i up date the helix 9 in the house before i hit the water ?
And if in simulator mode can i set it up to the way i want it, be for going out aswell
Hello, your videos are great. I have a helix 7 g3n. What settings do you use for the upper and lower range?
Sorry I just seen your comment. Upper and lower range on the si frequency spectrum?

As long as you have 1 si unit you can network whatever units u want to it and see the si and di mirrored to those units

No. Once you connect a transducer and start actually using it. You’ll have to redo those settings

I’m not sure which one I have on boat
Can I use any sd card to save screen shots or auto chart or do I have to get the hummingbird sd cards? I just got the helix 9msi gn4. Thanks
You can use any SD card just has to be under 64gb
Even for auto charting?
@@wibuckfever7764 sorry didn't see the autochart in the comment. No just screen shots. Autochart u have to have the zero lines card on the helix units
