  • If you have been having trouble dialing in your down imaging, this video will help you improve the quality of your images. I will share a variety of my on the water images with explanations of what you are seeing. You will also learn to interpret simulation down images using various down imaging settings. Learning to tinker with your settings will enhance image clarity. I will also share the personal settings that I use as my general starting point. Keep in mind there are no perfect settings and you have to play with the settings to match the lake conditions that you fish.

Excellent instructional, thanks for putting this out there. I find that if I'm fishing in deeper water (greater than about 60ish feet) the lower image frequencies work the best. If I'm in shallow water (less than 40 feet) the mega image frequencies provide the best images. Cheers...

Steve, You're videos on the Helix MEGA SI DI GPS G3 are FANTASTIC. These are the BEST videos of the multitude I have viewed. Just packed with info. I keep learning something new every time I review your videos. You explain things very well and in depth. I've only used my Helix 7 once so far and am just itching to set it up next week on my next trip. Hummingbird should seriously look at hiring you!!!

I really like the way you do these videos. You take your time, you thoroughly explain the settings, and I like when you use a pencil to point things out. So many "how to" videos rush through things, have poor camera angles, and I learn almost nothing from watching them. My hat is off to you because these things are SO COMPLEX its not easy to learn all the functions. It takes me a long time to learn computer things as I did not grow up with computers and I hate learning new software.

Wow! I have had my Helix 7 Mega DI for a year and never had great screen shots like those. I watched your great video all the way through first, then again as I changed the settings on my unit and wow, the final result is very much like your Helix 12 example. I did have to choose color pallet 3 to get the colors like you get with color pallet 2 on your 12. Thank you so much for doing this, cant wait to try it on the lake. Looking forward to your 2D settings video. Thanks!!!

I have watched dozens of videos and tried the settings they suggested but so far I've had no luck. Are there any other factors besides settings that could prevent me from seeing my lure? Thanks for the help.

    • @stevechiassonfishing5876
      @stevechiassonfishing5876  5 месяцев назад +1

Thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated. The down imaging beam is narrow making it difficult to see your bait. You will have more success using your 2D sonar which shoots out a cone signal. The cone angle will allow you to see your bait. MegaLive is also another way to see your bait. Ice fishing you can even see your swivel above the drop shoot hook, bait, and weight falling.

Hi Steve, Great video! My question if you can answer it: I am assuming the settings adjustments for brightness, contrast, zoom, etc are just adjusting the screen display and not making any changes to the recorded sonar signals being received and recorded by the unit, is this your understanding? I believe changing the freq of the sonar does affect what is recorded. Thanks

I have found sunken boats most often with side imaging but never in depths of 400’ as I don’t fish waters that deep. Mega down imaging isn’t designed for 400’ depths. Using lower frequency non mega settings would give you your best chance at finding sunken boats. I have no experience at those depths so I can’t give you a definite answer.

Hi Steve...I have a Helix 10 mdi G4 hooked to my ultrex with the mdi transducer built in. It reads the down imaging but doesn't show the depth. Could the built in transducer be acting up or is it a setting not correct? Help please sir.

Try under the set up tab and scroll down to digital readouts to make sure you are displaying the depth. I am assuming you have the proper cabling attached to your unit, MKR MI 1 attached to cable from Ultrex and plugs into your Helix.

Generally speaking, the faster the boat speed, faster the chart speed and vice versa. Start with the setting at 5, in the middle and adjust accordingly. Mega 360 shows best images at lowest cycling speed. 2D, DI, SI use the designated chart speed.

Hi Joe, there are very minimal differences between my G3N and your G4N. The Helix 9 and 12 work on the same operating system. I do have a video on my channel comparing G3N and G4N.

    • @stevechiassonfishing5876

It’s always better on the water to match current conditions. You can set it up off the water by putting it into simulation mode, just remember to flip back to normal mode (during start up procedures hitting menu button as per prompt from unit). During normal mode the transducer will be pinging which you can avoid by shutting sonar off and you can work on map/chart data.

Is it normal for my mega down imaging to have a red tint? If i freeze frame and mess with settings the water column is black but any new image coming in from the right the water column has a red tint im not sure if its normal or how to fix it. Thank you!

I am not familiar with a red tint, try a different colour palette and see if it’s still there, may just be the colour palette you are using.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Why not make a video what buttons to push how to turn it on & how to get down imageing get right in front of the unit in the shade with no glare & show what buttons to push & where is the on off button had mind for two years can’t find on / off button

You have had it for 2 years and you can't find the on/off button????? Really?? If you can't look at the unit and after looking at the buttons not figure out which one is the power button or call Humminbird or even ask the rep you bought the unit from where it is then this technology is wayyyyyyyy over your head. And if you watch the video he does show where the buttons are.
