You always get interesting tones out of whatever you use, well done, I really enjoy the friday fun series.
Could listen to you all day Nick playing this stuff. Fantastic and effortless.
Erebussssss. Glad you got it out...quite the creative use too with a very nice jam! I've been thinking I need to dig out my Murmux v1 as well. Dreadbox has so much good stuff, my the shelves are getting full. And after Superbooth next week (yes...synths and beer in Berlin!), it seems I'll need to find even more space on the shelf.
Great stuff, Nick! Sounds awesome!
Sounds like something off a Lorn album. Sounds soooo gooood!
I thought the same thing. Lorn rules.
Lovely sounds every week! Thanks!! Good night from Spain!!
I come back to listen to this a lot. Hypnotic.
Awesome sounds! Thanks Nick. Enjoyed this...
What a "dynamic duo", the Erebus sounds great running through the Clouds. Lovely, hypnotic... and over too soon!
mad beautiful
I am so impressed by this setup. I have got (pure) electricity chills!
Nick you should do an EP with these. They all sound amazing. Specially this one.
This was one of your Bests.
sounds beautiful!
gorgeous tunes.
Sounds awesome!
Just got my Erebus V2 in the mail yesterday morning. Great sounding synth!
Wow!!! This so friking cool sounding!
Amazing sound!
This was the video that really pushed me to get an Erebus v2. The Lorn/Annihilation movie type sounds are exactly what I'm going for with my dark ambient stuff.
wow...brilliant piece
Brilliant! What a great combination ... this should last an hour.
verry good ..... so beautiful
So excited to hear that there's a smaller version of Erebus, a great affordable start to a Eurorack for sure!
excellent video Nick and beautiful sounds as always.. that clouds is a beautiful bit of kit. a yr ago yesterday i got into eurorack, and couldnt acquire a clouds, in the end i veered towards the after later audio - typhoon extended which allows other firmwares to bee loaded. made some amazing sounds as good as the original clouds, using only mutable instruments - tides v2, still all a learning curve, but very rewarding.
Stunning.
That was sick dude!
Wooow, amazing stuff!
This is my new favorite series. I'd love to see you play with guests too, like a Friday fun colab with Gaz.
Beautifully done Nick. Have fun at Superbooth and have a few cold ones on the back patio/performance stage area for me. ;)
That Erebus got some heavy balls to it!!
Inspiring sounds!
Great stuff.
Loved it. I have an Erebus... now I want a Clouds.
Nick, please release an album there are many of us that would pay good money for it!!!
mannnnn it would be lit
Astounding
great stuff
Great stuff as always- just wanted to mention the lil' erebus is missing a few VCO options- no tri wave at all and VCO 1 is saw only and VCO2 is pulse only....might not be a biggie for most, but I would really miss the tri wave on the erebus.
Yeah, in the site they don´t explicity say that... Thanks for your analisys
dude your really good!
2:20 absolutely spectacular melody!
Very cool video indeed! Hey when are you guys going to be demoing the Korg prologue?
Always look forward to your FridayFun, with some tasty new sounds for my ears to devour. The synth is coming across on RUclips beautifully. I always wonder how much is lost in analog to digital and RUclips limitations. Does anyone know if RUclips accepts full resolution (24bit 196kh)???
so good! clouds and erebus = magic , where can i found that little eurorack case Nick has?
Fantastic.
Nothing more i can say...
OH HELL YEAH!!!!!
THIS!! My god that sound!!
Really looks like fun. Friday fun I guess ...
God that Erebus sounds so good as a bass
Big YUP! to that
you just sold a clouds - mutable killin it
I love these features , you should release music like this! its so deep.
Really nice 'ambient textures' what's the width of their pulse? Great synth demo and sound session :-)
Wow! So the whole Clouds series is basically ambient heaven...
Did the build of the Lil' Erebus as a live Twitch stream (first half) - it's just a ton of resistors....
Stunning! In which way ist the Clouds Module customized?
I'm looking for an alternative of clouds... can somebody help?
For the life of me I cannot *fathom* how Dreadbox could discontinue the Erebus! Such a nice synth.....
Lars Bjerregaard seriously???
Agreed. Happily they are still available for purchase in a lot of places. Got mine from Reverb last December.
Discontinued, yes. Nick says it in the beginning as well.
Probably because it is ugly as sin, in an ugly color and they only sold 2, one of which to Nick.
hmm..just checked their site. it's not in the discontinued section yet....damn.
brillant
So awesome, great work!
Have you got a Sonic Lab coming on the Korg Prologue? I just reviewed 1 this week, but I'm very curious to see what you make of it.
We dont, for some reason Korg dont really talk to us any more.
That's strange, think you've secured them quite a few sales over the years, guess it's their loss then.
Totally forgot about VCV Rack. I was wondering why the Mutable Instruments weren't being added to Softube Modular. :| I would've paid for them. It's amazing how interesting these two sound.
For the Clouds owners out there: You’ve really gotta try sending gates to the freeze input. While the gate is “high” it’s the equivalent of the freeze button being lit up. If you have the means of sending gates of varying lengths this can be quite interesting. Secondly, CV attenuation is your friend when modulating any of the parameters. When you feed something like a full width bipolar LFO you’ll get all kind of crazy wooshes like Nick did when he modulated Pitch with Pittsburgh. Instead, pass your LFO through an attenuator. I recommend ALM’s O/A/x2.
Damn nice jam, wish i got a black keystep instead of white!
Arturia midi setup in the back midi or sync?
God damn it. Every time I want something it's discontinued or hard to find. I want a Dreadbox.
Yeah Erebus V3 with 3 oscillators so it was worth the wait, it sounds amazing and look even cooler and fatter than V1 and V2.
Wow! It will be a good lesson trying to reproduce this. How did you connect the Keysteps ribbon to Clouds?
On the Erebus there is a MOD CV output which takes its signal from incoming mod wheel data, patched that into the Clouds Position CV input
sonicstate I see, thanks! Let‘s see if the Lil‘ Erebus has such an option.
Colin Wood Yes, I just „analyzed“ a photo of the Lil E. and came to the same conclusion. But tbh, for that great price I‘m ok with that. And using the mod-ribbon to change the size parameter isn‘t all that different from just turning the actual knob on Clouds.
Try Commodore 64 with MSSIAH module (or Kerberos but it's hard to get... you can DIY it though). It has a really good sound and a very fat filter (especially with SID 6851). Kerberos module have a memory IC on-board... It's capable of "firmwaring" cartridge images via USB-MIDI. This is the really cool feature. Some virtual DiskDrive module is OK too. SD4IEC...

Can I buy that?
What is that itty bitty rack you have the Clouds in? Looks perfect
Doepfer Mini Case
Yeah 👍
Very nice Nick!!
Brb... gonna buy a clouds
still quite a few erebus in store tho so u prob have one year on you.
Lil‘ Erebus ordered. Thanks for making me spend more money Nick. Zeesh.
李智上 +1
i'm rebuilding my credit
Clouds is pretty cool, altought the vcv rack version i used sounded pretty bad, not hating it! just not expecting prestine qual in a freeware like vcv rack, and it certaintly doest Not sound like the realthing. its a shame clouds was discontinued, it seems still very popular, people are Still looking around for one
Sounds good! But it can be mostly anything, not only Erebus... Don't think i'm joking but even my C64 can give a great sound as a source... And it has three voices paraphonically (paraphonic filter as i remember, "VCA" envelopes are different for all channels).
I needz a Clouds...
Clouds sounds great. It's a Mutable Instruments piece after all. But holy "£$%"^&*!! the Erebus. It never fails to be amazing. I really hope they bring it back for a mk2 or mk3...
But does it have PWM?
If it's the v2, then yes.
Just look at the black cable going from LFO to PW, also, Nick is a fan of the erebus, so it's basically implied it must have PWM :)
Who makes that eurorack case?
Doepfer Mini Case maybe?
yep thats it
sonicstate i’m looking at the doepfer LC1 case which is supposed to be 48 hp, hoping to put clouds and morgasmatron in there, but i like the look of your vaca nick, i can’t find where you say what it is?
VCV-Rack!
Indeed :-)
Tried it, I wish it run like as a VST like softtubes Modular. Vcvrack is far too clunky to use as a stand alone application.
I disagree. But anyway, in the current version (0.6.0) it offers an effects VST+AU, to use in your DAW, and in the coming version (0.6.1) an instrument VST+AU will be included as well. It's called the "bridge".
Where did you get a black keystep?
From the UK distributor
sonicstate link?
I want to buy one
They were a limited run
Michael Uhl dang, thanks
AFAIC y'all can stop posting vids of those trade shows (as they do the synths no justice) and just keep on posting _Friday Funs_ and your excellent reviews. :-)
Sounds big. i just have a noob question. How do you record the sound? What is the backend. And is there any post production going on, because it sounds really good even for a youtube video.
Audio goes into our video capture device. Then a limiter on the master bus
Thanks.
What I love about this series is that its actually a synth jam, not the multitudes of meta techno sequenced to death and then video'd dropping pads/leads in and out(which is bloody boring to me personally). It's not always about the end result, some of us, love the journey. Ty Nick for doing these and please for the love of god, continue.
Yummy.
A jam with two discontinued products to flex on the peasants
Very JOHN CARPENTER
Friday Fun or Fun Friday???
3 pieces of gear and a lot of music coming out..
Some John Carpenter moments in there.
The manufacturer is called Dreadbox, not Erebus, you flooped up haha
so sad cause I want a clouds in my rack
me too but apparently they are working on a newer "leaner" one
There are a few modules like uClouds that have the same software in a smaller module.
First off, I love your channel and follow it regularly. My goto for reviews. When it comes to Clouds, you really should let it shine by not using the freeze. Let it granulate live. I'm so bold that I will link to one of my own pieces with Clouds as a main instrument. Here I have the Mutable Instruments Elements fed into Clouds for granulating. Elements is driven by Make Noise Rene, and Clouds is heavily modulated by Ultra Random Analog by Steady State Fate.
Clouds can be an amazing texture module as you well demonstrate here, but paired with the right ocs, thats where I truly think it shines.

Still figuring out what it does, got into a bit of CV stuff after filming this piece, really great
You'll have a blast once you get deeper into it. Try adding some long delay after it, and use a quantized random cv signal to v/oct. That way it can sound like a small orchester :) Oh, and play around with its pan option. Major fun.
Omri Cohen explains and plays with the VCV Rack version of Clouds quite a bit here. There's 5 parts in all: ruclips.net/video/TVVS8CBSdgU/видео.htmlm57s
ill
Some John Carpenter moments in there.
