    Actually, that ‘starting with a 1/2/4/8 second phrase, freezing, then slowly messing with the buffer’ idea is pure gold, and one I will be trying next time I power up the rack. Thank you!

      Hi, thanks for watching. As far as I know, you can't freeze the channels indenpendently. Perhaps a clouds clone has this feature.

      Hi, yes, this module is powerful and can be used in so many ways. There are few modules you can play with for years without getting bored.

    • @GeorgeLocke

      I got Clouds (Monsoon) after Beads. They are so different. Clouds does "granular reverb" so much more easily. The main advantages of Beads are utilitarian: larger buffer, higher sample rate, and, most important IMO, "attenurandomizers". The sound is more clinical, and the reverb seems to be designed to push you away from washy ambient whereas that is almost Clouds' default...

    The concept of “still” using Clouds is bizarre, of course I still use clouds it’s a module not a fad. Even if a another module comes out that’s similar it that doesn’t make the original obsolete and even if it falls out of fashion that has no impact on a module’s capabilities. I still use the MK1 versions of the Elektron analog rytm, analog four and Octatrack because why wouldn’t I. It’s weird when people look at electronic instruments as things of relevancy as opposed to instruments

    • @bylant
      @bylant  Год назад +4

      Hi, although the vocabulary I used in this video is basic (this is one of my very early videos), I wanted to emphasize what you have said. It is far more better if we look at our modules as instruments, not as something we use just for a specific task. We should try out all the weird ideas and should use as much creative power as we can. If we think of our modular as an instrument and use the same setup for years (to explore it completely and learing every aspect of it), we are well on our way to creating good music and having mental health.

    • @jodo985
      @jodo985 3 месяца назад

      I agree with both of you and want to add that modern instruments, guitars, drums, stringed instruments and so on have been around for hundreds of years. We still use those. I almost feel prey to that same logic when I bought my BRAIDS last year… must have been a brain fart. Bought it and love it.

    Ive been fascinated by Clouds for years. Now I've just started experimenting with Modular and built a basic synth voice, I need to get hold of one, or one of its clones, and a bunch of LFOs (and attenuators) to start experimenting properly!

    • @bylant
      @bylant  Год назад +1

      You won't regret it :) In many situations, Clouds works better with simple waveforms or a synth voice than with complex timbres.

    • @TheDavidPoole

      @@bylant thanks for the encouragement! Have you had any experience of using DC coupled audio adapters or expert sleepers modules to get voltages in and out of computers? I've been thinking about experimenting with that, maybe with VCV Rack. I haven't got the required hardware, and don't want to spend money on that if I'm better off just waiting til I can get the modules I want.
      Cheers!

    • @bylant
      @bylant  Год назад +1

      @@TheDavidPoole I use two older exp-sleep modules for these kinds of tasks, ES-3 and ES-6. They are super useful and they expand the capability of my modular in so many ways. Although I send signals from SuperCollider, I'm sure these kind of modules work well with VCV. They are quite handy on stage giving you sequences and modulation and spear you from trouble of carrying more modular cases :)

    Thanks you a lot for this video.
    I got a Sylph Modular uBurst (a clone of Clouds, but in which they have inverted the colors of the 2 sets of leds - red and green, which was not helpful at the beginning - because they don't mention it) ; and i feel i will never tame it.
    I think your video will help.
    But what is "the internal triggering of clouds" (at 10:20) ???
    It looks as if you set the Dry/Wet (or Rate choice : i can't see the colours of the led) parameter.
    I don't see a mention about an "internal triggering" option or parameters in the manual.
    Best regards & thanks again.
    Thierry S.

    • @bylant
      @bylant  Год назад +1

      Dear Thierry S., I'm glad you like the video, thanks for watching. By "internal triggering" I meant the density knob :) Sorry, my wording was vague. I wanted to say that although I use an external envelope for triggering the grains, I turn the Density knob CCW to use the internal grain triggering mechanism as well.
