- Hey, we never said it would be weekly, but this makes two in a row!
Here's another episode in which Nick puts together a few items and plays some music.
This time we're using three Dreadboxes - The Erebus MK3, The NYX MK2 and the Typhon, controlled from the Arturia Keystep Pro and with the Zoom MS70-CDR multi-effect pedal (on the Erebus).
We also uploaded the stems for you:
Stereo MIX and three individual instrument tracks to Patreon, where you will also find plenty of exclusive content.

10 min jam sessions with info showcasing different gear (like this video) is something I’d watch regularly.
I could do with much less chat, honestly.
Sweeeeet!! I just got my Nyx2 back today to fix an issue (guy delivered it literally 10 minutes ago), and I happened to bump into this video. Nice. Got to tour Dreadbox's new workspace/offices in Athens last week, and they have some great stuff in the pipeline, I have to say.
Abyss 2 ?
@@ElCharvo Can't comment with any specifics, but I'll be posting a video in the next week that has some clear clues about what you're asking...
@@ProckGnosis Thanks
@@ProckGnosis can’t wait for that! They’ve slowly become by favorite company. I’ve always enjoyed their stuff, but I think getting a Typhon really pushed them into that top position :)
Cool!
I think the Friday Fun jams have become my favorite part of your channel. Aside from being interesting, educational, relaxing, and inspirational... it's also just great music.
thanks Nick great choice, as suggested off to do stuff, happy Friday all
Sounds great!! Love dreadbox ❤️
I love this. Amazing texture from Dreadbox
Nice one Nick. What a great combo, and especially the Typhon, which has so much character.
Typhon the only thing I ever returned to Thomann.... other than a broken microphone. hate the sound, the filter is weak, lame fx (those chorus, lol) , no duophony, I don't get it....why so many people like it, the mod matrix maybe? but well, good there is different tastes and markets for everyone.
I don't doubt it has flaws, but it's a question of context. It sounded good in Nick's jam. As for the H9, yep I came very close to buying a Max a couple of years ago, but decided to upgrade my laptop instead. In hindsight a better decision.
@Snake Plissken Ha ha! Very true that. Like the handle BTW "got a light?"
I was literally just asking myself if I should have a Nyx to go with my Erebus, when your video pops up. Quite serendipitous!
Its got a monster low end and is surprisingly flexible given only two osc - just such a shame the verb isnt stereo...
Nice jam and great tip on the Zoom 👍🏼 Luv the sound of the Nyx. They should make a mini. The older I get the more I tend to gravitate towards smaller gear. I think I’m turning Japanese ;-)
@@jm6734 you could check out the nyx v1
@@sonicstate Two oscillators is all that you need most of the time. Some of the most popular softsynths only have two. Three or four is always great to make things more interesting, or to fatten up a thin softsynth or ROMpler patch, depending on what the first two oscillators are running.
Mixing and matching like this is a great way to get to know your synths and which combinations work.
*also: not at all surprised that three Dreadbox instruments together leaves no space for drums ;-)
Pleasantly surprised to see the ZoomCDR, and hear you like it. I listened to 2 years of conflicting reviews on this little pedal and finally just bought one. After listening to it for 2 minutes I bought 2 more. The reason for the conflicting reviews is because the presents are crap for synths (maybe made for guitar). It is when you begin designing your own series of effects specifically for the synth tone you designed on this pedal it shines like a super nova. I use the Zoom in the aux loops of my mixers for more control and routing to multiple synths. This pedal is fantastic and such a pleasure and ease to custom design on. In 40 years of purchasing gear the Zoom pedal and 1010Music's BlackBox have been my best buys for low price and high sound quality.
I love it nick, especially the explanation enables softsynthers to get a bit more of an impression on how to get started. I'm wondering though what else you could produce with the same setup. How diverse is the setup, and what are the first limitations you'd run into? Another video perhaps?
He's missing a drum machine for percussion, like TR8S, to do anything more. That Bluebox gadget should have a spare input or two in his setup there, if I'm not mistaken.
Every time you use a Nyx you demonstrate what a superior synth it is. What a lovely bass sound. Good work, Nick.
Dreadbox - what a great synth and module maker ! ❤️ love to peak inside their product pipeline
I adore these videos. I actually don't mind the lack of drums. Really sweet.
That was beautiful Nick! Reminded me of the Orb.
THATS THE BEST SHIRT EVER!!!! Every time i hear the words "pulse width modulation", i think of you and giggle. Its even made its way into our local vernacular... "Add a bit of Nick"... We pay homage... Thumbs up! P.s. Are they for sale from sonicstate?
Nice jam, love my Typhon with its amazing on board effects. I have hacked my ms 70cdr but not all the FX engines from the other ms pedals will work. I did it mainly for the fuzz and distortion FX. Cheers Nick.
Are you a time lord Nick or did you get up really early this morning?😉😂🙌....ahhhh beautiful...your music always has feeling and soul......yum!
It's cool how this all happens in the middle of the night for me. I live on an island in the Pacific. You UK folks have already had supper and I'm just eating breakfast! Looks like the world is not flat!
lovely Friday medication, nice one Nick!
Great video. That Typhon sounded very Angels & Airwaves. Such a great sound.
Nick, you are on a roll - two weeks in a row - definitely should go for the hat trick :)
I see you have your own signature shirt now!
Those are some awesome sounds.
Just bought a Typhon. Amazing box.
Wonderful as always Nick, thank you for sharing. I am sure you could do something wonderful with a Casio SK-1, a looper and delay pedals and a mixer. Great stuff - enjoy your weekend!
Always inspirational. Thanks!
midsommaraphton here in sweden, come over for a sill (swelled herring) & nubbe (vodka) and do the goackacka goackacka around the midsommarstong, cheers people!
Erebus v2 is still one of the thickest sounding modern synths.
Great setup
Are you using midi through on some of the synths? I wish these had a diagram haha. Great sounds man
Yes I am! MIDI into NXY MKII, through to Erebus, then Typhon
It's like a cross between U2 and Joy Division. Lovely.
Back watching this again,.. torn between getting the nyx v2 or saving for an abyss 😭
Love this Nick, Nice one buddy
Wonderful Nick!
Friday Fun makes me feel like the world is sort of normal again. I have an Erebus, and I'll never give it up--such a great synth; it does more than you might think!
Splendid Ice elation !
The Thyphon was sounding like the theme to the anime Paprika until the bass started.
Nice playing...dreadbox = cool :-)
Lovely 🔥
Very nice bass tone .
Love it.
reminds me of the opening to The Thing
after the first secs I thoughts its an 'where the streets have no name' cover  'edge like' as you mentioned later
Haha, yeah I got that
magic
dreadbox cool synth!
That was wwwizardd,
💕
Does any of the Dreadbox modules feature the same oscillators as the Erebus III?
The older discontinued White Lines series Oscillator module would be the closest to Erebus v1-3/Nyx v1-2 oscillators. The current Hysteria oscillator is a bit closer to the Abyss with continuously variable waveshape. Though the Hysteria has a sine at the far end where the Abyss has noise at fully clockwise. Still sounds great though, has the nice Dreadbox character.
Very nice, sounded a bit Orbital
Why going for erebus V2 over V3?
v2 has better filter
Excellent jam! :)
