I keep coming back. Sometimes it takes a while for me to find this gem, but damn it's always worth it. The composition, the intention and the minimalism of this sounds is incredibly satisfying. I guess what I am trying to say is.. Thank you. To you who is inspired, go for it. Whatever happens, it will be genuine.
I think this has become my favourite of the MOTR series of clips. I really like the sounds made, the compact set-up and neat tricks with the SQ1 sequencers and the ambience of the city view. I confess it was this clip and then watching Nick Batt with the Erebus on Sonicstate straight after it that made me go and buy an Erebus immediately :)
As if YOU try to manage any contact with buildings of the city on the horizon...have they contacted YOU back, in the meantime? Beauty...and some form of abstract serenities. I think this is a really unique ways of looking at life...love it!
Amazing! Found this during one of my late night RUclips explorations, listened to it until I fell asleep. First thing the morning I woke up, was playing this again. Amazing...
This video convinced me to get into synthesizers and start making music again. Seven years later I've never come to close to anything this fantastic, but I've had a lot of fun trying and made a surprising number of friends along the way.
I'd love to Nick, but i have zero experience with modulars unfortunately! I am thinking about getting a system, but i'm afraid i will get lost in endless patching sessions... But it's so tempting! I love your work by the way, gives me a lot of inspiration!
Timecop1983 Likewise! Love your music. I think we have smiliar influences. If you're nearby and want to hang, i can show you my modular. i think it'd be a blast
Nooooooooooooooooo - please not!!! Stay with a few boxes and focus on the music! Ok. maybe a decent reverb - BAM? Ummmm FILML4D4N wrote "dont need" and I missread "do need". Sorry but you got my point anyway. The Atlantis is a gem, had it and miss it now a little bit. Also teh erebus is fine, but I found it in the end too limited, never used the duo mode. But the dreadboxes have a really heavy sound that go on par with the moogs.
make an album. i'll buy the shit out of it. Not sure why I subscribed ages ago, think you did some electric violin videos I liked. Boy I'm glad I did subscribe. Make an album, organise the tracks on your bandcamp into an album, whatever works.
Amazing rig ! Wonderful prformance. Just wish there was some non boring explination of what is being used and how and why it was chosen for his rig. Peace christo
Very clever set up, i'm not realy in to eurorack modules cause they are limitless, i like the limitation of a small system. Came at your channel cause i was looking for erebus videos. A tiny clever set up makes a great set up. Still got the SQ1 drivin my mutable shruti wich is a great combo for my own set up. . . . . . but this set up made me look in a other direction as well . . . . big thumb up
Hello . Can you (or anyone here) please tell me how you connect and use the SQ1 like with a keyboard? - I absolutely love the part starting around 3:33
I'm so fascinated with these sounds, that I can't find words to describe it. If somebody would want to recreate them in his bedroom studio, does he need exactly these two modules and sequencer? Ot it can be done with not so specialised instruments, say, Microkorg-class?
I really like this setup ! I plan to get into modular next year, could you please tell me what the other module is ? You got this Intellijel Atlantis, the WMD dplr delay, but what is the other one ? Thanks for helping me out. This setup seems like the perfect one for me to start. Are there any good alternatives to the Intellijel Atlantis ? It's quiet expensive, but it sounds really great !!
I too love coming back to this piece every now and then , love when it comes on strong at 3.35. Sounds like something John carpenter would have scored 4 one of him movies.
did you routed the output of the erebus into the rack or did you feed the erebus signal with the output of the WMD dplr delay into a (at least 3 channel) mixer?
7 years later and I still come back here for this 🫡
The more often I come back to this video the more I'm convinced it is a masterpiece
and it still is
Me to, I like his other vid as well... Just amazing both visually as well as sonically!!
This video was for me the gateway to heaven/hell of synthesizers and electronic music...forever!
I keep coming back.

Timeless , I will never get bored of listening this masterpiece
This video is really something special. Six years on and it it still hits hard.

Same here. Interesting confluences 🙂
i love this little concept of the 'On The Roof' very original and very easy listening
I just bought an Erebus after watching this. Atlantis some day. Thanks for the inspiration!
My absolute favorite of this series that you've done. This is perfection.
Thank you for this unbelivable beautiful song..i literally have tears in my eyes...its so god damn emotional...thank you....
As if YOU try to manage any contact with buildings of the city on the horizon...have they contacted YOU back, in the meantime? Beauty...and some form of abstract serenities. I think this is a really unique ways of looking at life...love it!
Amazing!

Amazing...
Gotta admit, I had _not_ expected actual _music_ from a setup like this! Thank you very much for sharing! Truly beautiful!

The lead on the roof adds more weight to the sound. :)
Absolutely love it! Great video as usual!
Oh, Timecop1983 is here.
Timecop1983 Hi Timecop, if you'd like to do a session for #modularontheroof, send us a message on our facebook page :))
I'd love to Nick, but i have zero experience with modulars unfortunately! I am thinking about getting a system, but i'm afraid i will get lost in endless patching sessions... But it's so tempting!

2021 - still love to come back to this session and listen to it again and again :)
Awesome. Love the all of the beautiful nuances in timbre, and the way you use of noise is a superb touch.
2022 Still one of my favorite Modular Tracks
Quite a journey. Thanks for the vibe
seriously incredible. this video is literally convincing me to get into modular synthesis. great stuff Nick Kwas!!
This proves you don't have to have Richard Devine's budget to make great sounding music with Modular synthesizers.
That setup is still £2K I reckon
It’s been two years since I first saw that jam and it’s still giving me goosebumps
bloody love your sessions. pure pleasure. come play on my roof in Barcelona, Spain when you're here. great views ... good vibes ... like your music!
This is Gorgeous. perfect setting.
Ah, finally someone who use them to make music and not just bleeps. Lovely!
The transistion at 4:26 gives me chills every time! Excellent stuff here!
you dont need a wall of modules! Great!
Nooooooooooooooooo - please not!!! Stay with a few boxes and focus on the music! Ok. maybe a decent reverb - BAM? Ummmm FILML4D4N wrote "dont need" and I missread "do need". skyreader society 'focus on the music' the best advice I've seen on YT in ages :) so true
Erebus and Atlantis are essentially two walls of modules.
Wow, very nice! Great sound and use of modular synth!
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick synth groove evolving vibes!!!!!!! Thank you!
SQ-1 mastery. very musical. well done!
Oh wow. I'm a bit late for this party but it's better late than never. This sounds bloody good.
Amazing use of SQ1 and everything else, great song

He has a Bandcamp page. You can find the link in the description. :)

Amazing rig ! Wonderful prformance. Just wish there was some non boring explination of what is being used and how and why it was chosen for his rig. Peace christo
This is beautiful man! Made my day.

Excelent work. Really enjoyed it. Brilliant!
Amazing use of the SQ-1s. You're making it hard for me to talk myself out of buying an Atlantis...
Scott Campbell you won't regret it. my favorite of 18u of modules.
Dewwwww eeeet
Just found this and I’m very pleased that I did. Thank you 🙏🏼
fantastic! so much vibe, such a definite mood. And damn, that sunset...thanks you!
well played! amazing tones from the erebus and atantis, simply amazing!
ABSOLUT NETT!!!!!!
und musikalisch ganz weit vorne. Respekt......
roof hipsters my greatest fear
we're surrounded!
Is it a health and safety issue? 😂
*hisses in analogue*
Brilliant comment!
They’ll get you they will
hell of a track dude. You should definitely release it
I fucking agree hardcore.
Love it!! Great job Nick!!
This inspires me on so many levels!
Those 3 or so sections of wet delay synth swirl are glorious.
Damned good stuff Master Kwas! Very very nice.
this is the best modular video i have ever seen, more please, incredible!!!
I don't like to use this word, but can't think of better...AWESOME!!!
I really enjoyed listening to this.
Very lovely session, thank you! Man that Erebus sounds great....
this is a great set!
LOVE this track sounds so nice and warm, great work!!!!;-)).
Very clever use of the SQ1. Lovely sounds.
Nick, this is great! Met you at KnobCon a few months back and happy to see this! Wonderful stuff!
Nicely done. Enjoyed it.
Great work! I'm a fan for life.
Wow, just wow! In search for that tiny magic in simple melodies.
Sunset and sequenced lines remind me a touch of BoC. Lovin the vibe.
More people should record in the sunset :-) Btw. Both boxes are very good sounding synths - right choice!
Well done! Love to hear that Erebus breathe!
Klasse Sound und Video, super...
This is great pyro. I'm glad I subbed all those years ago
Still awesome. I think this was one of videos which got me started with modular :)
Loving this!
The opening, in particular, has a very Battle of Evermore feel to it. Nice.
Hello . Can you (or anyone here) please tell me how you connect and use the SQ1 like with a keyboard? - I absolutely love the part starting around 3:33
realy sweet track !! great sounds and improvisation!
This is beautiful.
Love the series. Quite fun. I'm probably about 15 mins from you guys. :-)
Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing
Ngl this video was the start of a full blown addiction ❤
Great sounds from a neat set-up. I'm very interested in trying the Erebus with the SQ1.
I'm so fascinated with these sounds, that I can't find words to describe it. If somebody would want to recreate them in his bedroom studio, does he need exactly these two modules and sequencer? Ot it can be done with not so specialised instruments, say, Microkorg-class?
What a way to start (or end) the day. Wasn't sure if it was sunrise ... either way it goes well with your sound.👍
This video made me buy the Erebus. I haven't regretted that decision :)
I never really considered modular synths because I thought it was unorganized, but then I saw this video and it changed my mind...
You're so much better than deadmau5 with a fraction of the gear
Sounds awesome. Love it.
Great stuff. Love the setting.
i love atlantis - having one with metropolis.. proper acid workshop and more. Erebus sounds very good
Amazing! I really enjoyed this
Awesome dahDougie! Please share what’s the complete setup in the case ? Cheers
Great work, Bravo.
lovely! I wonder what the reverb is here
I really like this setup ! I plan to get into modular next year, could you please tell me what the other module is ? You got this Intellijel Atlantis, the WMD dplr delay, but what is the other one ? Very beautiful. You must have been quite cold though...
Amazing!! Great work
Beautifully done...subscribed
Your about to get really big btw. Show the world that modular synthesis is back.
lovely sound palette. Nice.
This was excellent!!
hell yeahhh you're rockin the rozwell kid sticker!!
Anyone know what genre you'd classify this as. I'm looking for stuff like it on Spotify but don't know what to search
maarvelous again!!!! congrats!!!
