- In this video I discuss my frustration with Alexander Volkanovski taking a short notice fight with Islam Makhachev on short notice. In my opinion he is trying to prove a point to show everyone that he's tough but in doing so, he will likely ruin his career. If he loses this fight, he will probably never get the opportunity to fight Makhachev again. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments.

My guess is that volkanovski has been working on this fight for a very long time(besides the surgery rehab period). He's probably perfected a strategy in his head and has it playing out in his mind daily and he got this opportunity and he grabbed it. What's interesting is nobody knows volk's preparations after Makhachev 1.

Huge Volk fan here and even I had the same sentiment that what Volk is doing with this off of surgery, no camp, 10 days short notice is really foolish.
I hate that also for Makhachev , Alex had everything in the first fight and lost , and Islam that bad recovery when he didn't eat at all only some eggs
and I wanted that second fight in Abu Dhabi so we can see Makhachev full power to see how much better he do , but not on a short notice so people will not give him the credit he deserve if he beat Alex again same as the last time

More concerning were his words after the fight. Sounded like he was saying the only thing that gives his life meaning is training/fighting. You can have the 'perfect life', family, friends etc that doesn't always give your life meaning. I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion. If Volk loses chances are he won’t get an instant title rematch but since it’s such late notice there is a chance down the line. Volk will go on and beat the winner of Ilia vs Max, then permanently move up to lightweight and if he proves himself against Gaethje, Porier or even Charles, he def will get a third shot against Islam
but volk is 35 and by the time he decides to move up to 155 he’ll be 36, father time is undefeated in mma and if volk stays as active as he is then it won’t end well.
