I like Islam so much. I simply don’t get the hate. So funny and likable. Guy is just a wholesome killer.
Since he's more easy-going and smiles more than Khabib, people take the confidence he has and takes it as arrogance before Khabib was much more calm and serious. But when you listen to them talk, they both have the same level of confidence. It's just Islam is more forward with it than Khabib did, so people hold it against him.

I think you're misinterpreting Islam. You have to understand that the title of "Champion" holds so much weight to him. So when he acknowledges Volk as a Champion; that's Islam acknowledging that Volk is dangerous. He even said that he knows that Volk wont give up. Acknowledged that he's a pound for pound great. Remember that Khabib wasn't happy with Islams performance last time. And Khabib played a massive part in the training camp this time. So Islam knows, either through his own respect for Volks ability, or because he respects Khabibs opinion enough to take what Khabib says to heart.
That said, this fight is still impossible to call. I'm pulling for Islam, but I 100% believe that Volk could get a win. Both men are too good for one to not have a chance.

If one of those mountain wrestlers/athletes calls anyone a ‘Master of Sport’ this is the highest praise/compliment besides ‘ World Champion’, they joke around a lot and it’s usually stone faced like what you see with Khabib Islam and Khamzat, I’ve come to realize that this is partly because they’re translating to English and they don’t understand where to put the inflections and partly because their culture is about respect so much that to them it’s clearly sarcasm because they wouldn’t outright disrespect a friend-fellow competitor - or anyone that doesn’t bring the same disrespectful energy in that way because their culture doesn’t look highly on that. Understand also that they’re all pretty much just fight at the drop of a hat type of guys so even though it seems the opposite sometimes as long as they’re talking and not fighting you in that moment then there is a level of playfulness to their wild claims, just like Islam kept saying Dagestan had more golds even though he knew it was false he is playfully conceding that US team the past two years has been better than them and that he still believes they’re better than US even though they lost.
Islam respects him and knows he's dangerous. This is all in order to sell the fight as well. As long as Islam keeps his trash talking towards Volk's decisions and his fight game, its all good. Fans get angry with Islam whos overly confident but were laughing when the likes of McGregor insulted fighters their country and family members to the point some spiraled into a despression (Aldo). As long as Islam doesn't become a person like that, its all good.
