- In this video I discuss Alexander Volkanovski getting knocked out by Islam Makhachev in the first round at UFC 294. Although I predicted Makhachev to win by KO, I am very sad to see Volkanovski Lose. I believe that this may also be the beginning of the end for Volkanovski in regards to him no longer being in his prime.

This card was filled with sad and misfortunate turn of events:
- Magomed and Johnny was declared a NC due to the illegal knee in the 1st RD
-Khamzat got his hand broken after that slam in the 1st RD
when he took Usmans back, and couldn’t showcase his striking to the fullest extent in the later RDs
-Volk got headkick KO’d and we don’t know if he’ll ever be the same
Chimaev’s striking was much the same as it was in the Burns fight. We just learned that when he fights a guy with the same reach and a good chin he’s got nothing.
The finish vs Volk wasn't that bad, it wasn't like a Rashad v Chuck or Barbosa v Etim KO so I don't think it's gonna have long-term effects on him, it's fuckin father time I'm worried about. 35 years old bro, age is not kind to fighters.
Khamzat's hand being broken just makes it worse that Usman had no offense for him in round 2 and 3. Fixed fight.

After watching his post fight press conference, I think Volk needs to take a break for longer then Janurary. I think he has revolved his life and purpose around fighting to a point that when he didn’t do it he doesn’t know what to do with himself. He just had a new born, and I don’t know him on a personal level but I think he should enjoy time with his family and get his mind right before jumping in there. I love Volk and he is an inspiration for me.

I mean getting ko and then receiving a bunch of punches unconscious right after is like for a moment you can literally die, and probably for volk his life and family got in his head in that moment. I saw this coming but didn't wanna believe it. Hopefully Volk beats Topuria & that the fight isn't in Jan.
He actually thought that kick was going to the body. His right hand is always protecting high, but where his left goes is where he thinks the kick is going. Earlier in the fight Volk blocked the high kick with both hands and it glanced off him. Second high kick caught him with just the right high guard which is not enough. Its actually a big hole in his game, I hope he address it soon.

as a makachev fan, this outcome does not surprise me one bit. what surprise me is how the first fight goes which actually now been revealed that mak dont have enough time to rehydrate back in Aussie. but since makachev dont use that as an excuse and so do I, that was a close fair fight.
what i do think as of now is volk camp and himself are their own greatest enemy. i think they really go over their head with scheduling fight after fight and its not like he take lightly damage from each, its a slugfest for each fight. the media pushing volk again again will undoubtly fuel their ego to take all this big fight and volk right now has NO capability to keep up, if they really care on volk legacy then schedule fights accordingly and logically, you cant beat someone who won over you in your backyard and not fully hydrated and makachev still in his prime with just only 12 day notice. good luck with volk and i do hope you guys as his fan dont push him too hard on achieving the goat status, there are better candidate for it.
Sigh, I remember when Volk came up and I was so mad that this wrestling heavy, jabby guy beat Mendes and then Aldo. Now it breaks my heart to see him lose.
I haven’t been able to watch the fight yet but I don’t fault him too much for not storming Islam’s castle. Each time he got hurt in the last fight was because he chased Islam and overextended, especially with body shots. He did better when stalked and countered him and did not overextend. Given that he had to conserve his gas tank as well it made sense without the benefit of hindsight to approach him cautiously.
It sounds like it was more that Makhachev just fought really well. He leveraged his superior kicking game and his range advantage and the high low changeup was a good idea given the open stance matchup and the threat of body kicks as well. He is an excellent fighter and deserves his PFP spot
As for Volks confidence he might still be okay. His chin is going to deteriorate no doubt but he is a pretty down to earth guy, he knows his worth but I don’t know that he ever developed a belief that he couldn’t be knocked out. He was badly knocked out in one of his pre UFC bouts.

As for Topuria, gotta remember he’s a solid 2 inches shorter and has 3 inches less reach than Islam plus he just isn’t the same ground threat. Volk might not be winning on physicality but in skills for his last 1-3 featherweight title defenses. He can definitely play the outside game much much better against Topuria not to mention match or even exceed him in the strength battle.

Islam discussed in the post fight interview that the double leg take-down was half assed to see Volk's mindset, just to test the waters a little. He also wanted to see Volks strength in the clench, and got in some good knees. At that point he knew Volk was soft, so he decided to start the kicks low and then went high, and one got through and staggered Volk, and then Islam went in for the finish!
Karma is a real Bitch! 8 Months ago - Volk and his team falsely accused Islam of cheating when he lost the first time and Volk wanted revenge on Islam! They had no proof to back it up and they kept up the lies to the media. Volk is an awful, despicable person, and Karma finally caught up to him! I hope he learns a lot from this experience and can grow and be more humble in the future.

It’s was t Volk showing respect it was Volk having trouble reading the high-kick that has plagued his career. He didn’t defend properly as he went head down first. I am not an Islam guy, but it was masterful setups on the kicks. The footwork made it impossible to decipher high vs low kicks.
