I’ll admit, I was one of those guys calling Gaethje overrated and talking about how he had taken too much damage and his time was coming to an end. But when rewatching his fights leading up to the Fiziev matchup I realized he was better than I had given him credit for. But even then I didn’t think I would view him so highly today. Gaethje & Strickland definitely have the biggest narrative shifts

GSP wasn't as dominant as Kamaru? Lmao, he was WAY more dominant. He rarely ever dropped rounds and won 30 straight rounds. You wanna talk about someone looking invincible? GSP was it. Usman on the other hand frequently drops rounds and struggles in every fight he has that isn't against washed up journeymen. He struggled greatly against Colby twice, got dropped and lost the first round against Burns and even lost the first round against Leon in their second fight before getting knocked out and got outclassed in the trilogy. How is that looking invincible? That isn't very dominant at all. Usman's got to be one of the most overrated fighters of all time.

And Usman's comp isn't laughable? The guy successfully defended his belt against *only three different guys* . One of them was never good enough to make it to a title shot back in GSP's era. Colby is unproven against good fighters in their primes and was struggling against and getting taken down by the likes of washed up RDA. He was less dominant than expected against a 37 year old Masvidal.

Gaethje is definitely one of the best narrative change. If we remember properly, gaethje after his loss to dustin and eddie said that doctor told him he had very few fights left but then with help of trevor and stuff he went on to fight more than 6 times becoming interim champ and bmf champ and multiple time title challenger. The fact that gaethje is fighting young upcoming talents like Feizev and beating them. The fact that gaethje being one of the hardest hitter and people think he don't have puncher chance to beat islam or knock out anyone in lightweight is insane.

  • @sickheadjoker1421

I have to disagree with the Kamaru take. There was nothing from the third Leon fight that showed me that he’s washed. Leon’s game plan of using leg kicks from range nullified Kamarus pressure. Leon beating him doesn’t make me think that the other contenders could do the same thing. Honestly I think he still beats Colby and would beat Belal. A fight with Shavkat can go either way because Shavkat isn’t the most defensively sound

To me petr yans fall hit the hardest. Because he was so good that people just didnt believe he was washed despite losing several in a row. That’s such a huge deal mma fans are so fickle if most people lose once people are calling them washed up and mid but Yan lost multiple times before people really started looking at him differently. There was talk of him being the best striker in the divisions history his losses were a fluke future goat nobody is calling him that anymore. It reminds me a bit of Dominic Reyes because he lost to jones but he was dominant the whole time and looked awesome people thought he would come back and be champ but it never happened it sent him down a losing streak.

Yan’s best bet to get the belt is if O’Malley or Chito are champ.
He has to beat Song, keep his spot as rank 5. So rank 4 Sandhagen. Winnable fight but Sandhagen has improved quite a bit since their fight. Rank 3 Cejudo, toss up fight, not sure who’d win, so this is a viable option for him. Rank 2 Merab…yea I don’t see this fight being any different. Rank 1 Aljo…he has to hope Aljo moves up to 145, as Aljo has improved massively since the Yan 2 fight to be able to out strike and out wrestle Cejudo
Hypothetical rank 1 Chito or O’Malley when either one loses….honestly Yan’s easiest matchup in the top 5. But idk if the UFC would let him get the rank 1 fight coming off of beating someone in the top 10 and not the top 5, so he’d have to hope Sandhagen or Merab doesn’t dethrone Chito or O’Malley

"THE PEOPLES narrative switched" aka Lucas is the ultimate casual and can only overly praise or blindly hate on fighters, and when hes proven wrong on one side he switches to the other extreme to cover up for it, just to be personally offended again the next time the guys go in there and prove him wrong. Still great content tho

I don’t agree with the narrative that Sean suddenly beats everyone…I hope he does because I like him but I won’t shift that fast after one good performance..remember that Cody vs Cruz happened and how that turned out…there are a lot of hard matchups there..I wouldn’t write off Izzy just yet…there’s DDP…Khamzat…even Bo Nickal coming up..all killers 🥶

I never thought Justin to be washed. Elite gatekeeper? Sure. Khabib, Charles, Dustin, is not a bad list to lose to. Dustin himself at the same time was very much the “best striker” by same the time I’ve heard LTracy thinking “jalen beats poirier” look how that aged 😐 he was beating Charles on the feet, helpless in grappling. Only other person to do so in recent is Islam, and Charles was absolutely swinging for the fences undisciplined.
Beneil just has no clout, can take his time off, ofc he has to cuz Charles absolutely cooked him.
2 Dubronx victims. Olivera is literally 1 step away from being the only LW champ to be smoking on top 5 like Izzy digging past his line up only to be slaughtered by Sean.

Gotta think what would happen if yan got the win against sean (one that he rightfully deserved).. he might have gone on to beat Sterling if that trilogy happened (or even had the confidence to beat Merab). After that sean fight, i think yan lost his motivation. He's known for having a slow start/reading his opponents before he wins the later rounds. If sandagan gets the belt, i think yan has a shot at becoming champ again
