I decided this Christmas my 2 sons and their families were getting bowl cozies. Since I’ve only heard about them I decided I needed to review the method of making them. After watching around 10 RUclipss I decided your RUclips is #1. You explain in detail start to finish. And the added bonus of making the cozies to size is wonderful. Thank you, so much. I have plans to make these for friends that live in Turkey, Jordan and Egypt, too. I can’t wait to get started. I’m off to my quilt store.

I learned so much from this tutorial. I had watched a different person's but there was absolutely no talking on it at all. The reason I chose that one is the title said microwave safe bowl cozy. The most important thing I learned from your video is the fact that all of the materials must be 100% cotton.

Thanks for this tutorial, Darvanalee. I made 2 with Christmas fabrics and used felt in place of batting. I decided to only use the felt on one layer (so 3 layers total instead of 4), and while it works, it's not a snug fit on the bowl I measured. So next time I'll try using the 4 layers, as you indicated!

I love that you start with simple squares! Other videos I've watched use templates - PDF - that never come out right for me. And this video shows those templates are so unnecessary! Plus, the added bonus of customizing for bowl size! I mean who has the exact same bowl sizes? Never mind my OWN bowls vary. I've got two cozy's in progress now. Measured and marked for the "X" Can't wait to start building them tomorrow!

Great tutorial. Many thanks. As a beginner, I managed to make my bowl cosy but sadly my quarter inch seam must have gone astray and I when I turned it the right way out, I hadn’t caught the material in a couple of places. I did a bit of zig zag stitch over it and it’s done the job, but looks a bit messy. Never mind, lesson learned and my second attempt will be better.

    • @marilynbaulch2663
      @marilynbaulch2663 8 месяцев назад

I really liked the idea of measuring for different size bowls.
I started making the cosies exactly as described but have modified them over the years.
I do a few different things. I overlock all my pairs of fabric. My husband made me a template with cutouts for the darts. I just have to put the template over the square and draw the darts, none of that measuring.
I also put a stiffer batting for the base so the cosies stand firmer.
I use a knitting needle to poke into the corners.
I do everything else the same as the video.
I have made dozens of cosies. A fat quarter will give you 4 10 inch squares.
Cosies make a great present or hostess gift. 😊

Hi Nicole ... love the bowl cosies, thank you!
I bought some 100% cotton from Spotlight then found out from another You Tube video that it needs to be 100% cotton without scrim. Apparently there are 2 types (both marked 100% cotton!!!). The one with scrim has a synthetic web holding the batting together (so much for 100% cotton, NOT!)
So I had to source a store that sold 100% cotton without scrim.

Love your tutorial. Is there a difference in the thickness of the batting. I noticed that mine are early bulky and difficult to work with. I'm using the wrap-n-zap.

Oh my goodness. I'm sooo glad I've found you! Such a wonderful tutorial. I'm new to sewing and nervous about trying something new but you make it make sense! And explaining how to get right size square for a particular bowl. Totally subscribing to you. Thank you very much. You're a star x

So when sewing from corner to corner, I'd guess we should leave a seam allowance in each corner for when we clip the corners off?
