How to Make the Jelly Roll Bowl Cozy Using the Gypsy Quilter Template | Shabby Fabrics
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 июл 2024
- Make a bowl cozy to help keep your hands from being burned, and keep your soup warmer for longer. This is such a fun project, and you can make these to match any home and any season. These make a great gift!
The template from Gypsy Quilter is required. The pre-cut batting is highly recommended, but optional. Since the bowl cozies are typically warmed in an oven be sure to use only 100% cotton thread (no polyester) and only 100% non-metallic cotton fabrics. Thanks Jen..You’re right…it’s the little things that make a house a home..made some for gifts and everyone loves them…thanks for the great tutorial…Catherine and 🐈
You are welcome! Happy that you enjoyed this tutorial and that it has made great gifts for you! Thank you for your support and comment! - Abby
One of the reasons I love your videos is the "don't do what I did" parts. Busy sewing, running a shop, and sometimes flying planes ... How many people can claim that?!
I have something similar that I bought at a craft show. They are wonderful for putting under serving bowls to protect the table and to make passing easier.
That's a great idea for them, thank you for sharing! - Morgan
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents with us!
We're so happy to do it! - Morgan
I've made these in the past but I love the new pre-cut batting and template - makes the process much easier & less time consuming.
I totally agree Cindy, Having the batting perfectly precut and ready to go makes it so quick and easy. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. :) Jen
Thank you for sharing your mistakes. This not only helps build my confidence in trying but also lets me know what not to do. Your humility is the mark of a great teacher. Many times I have given up learning something because I expected to do it perfectly the first time. Learning is a process of getting it right AFTER doing it wrong.
I completely agree. We learn best from our mistakes, everyone makes them. Glad you enjoyed. - Yajaira
'Wrap and Zap' batting works for these like a dream. These cozies been around for years but it is nice to see a template available for newer sewers and I love the idea of using the jelly roll for them. :) Doing the lines of quilting through all 4 layers at the bottom of the bowl after it is together is great too as the layers don't separate when washed and gives a slightly sturdier bottom. Another great how-to video. Thank you from Canada!
Adding the lines after.. Great suggestion. Gonna try that one!
Glad you like them! Thank you for sharing those tips! - Morgan
That's how I do mine too. I sew a circle on the bottom, through all layers. Makes huge difference!
That’s what I Do at the bottom. An X or a circle.
Howdy neighbor B.C. here, great tip all blessings🌻🌻🌻🙏🙏🙏
What a cook gift idea. Love how easy you make it look.
It's such a fun gift! Thank you for your kind comment. :) These are really fun projects, and we love sharing them with you. - Morgan
Thank you so much for your tutorials, I just ordered mine.
Glad you like them and thank you for ordering from us! We appreciate the support. Let us know how your project turns out! - Morgan
I enjoyed watching and listening to you explain the family memories. We use our cozies when we eat ice cream in our bowls. I made smaller ones for ice cream . Now on to the bargello tree skirt. Can’t wait to make it.
That's a great idea! Thank you so much for watching! Let us know how that tree skirt turns out! - Morgan
I make several of these for my kids when they go to college. In fact I make extra! I also make matching potato/tortilla wars and regular pot holders and lid pot holders!
That is such a fun going-to-college gift! What a great idea! - Morgan
I just love your tutorials! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you like them! Thank you so much for watching! - Morgan
this looks like a lot of fun and an wonderful gift for friends who enjoy shot soup in the winter
It does look like fun! Such a great idea! - Yajaira
I made several soup cozies for Christmas presents last year and they were a big hit! This new template and precut batting would have made the project so much easier! Love the new products and I plan on picking both up soon!
Thank you for sharing that! We love time-saving notions or templates that actually make projects easier. Let us know when you make these with the template and how you like the experience compared to the last time. - Morgan
Love using these for ice cream.
I use them at the holidays with plastic bowls full of holiday flowers. They look so cute around the house. The bowl doesn't have to be pretty because the Bowl Cozy is the focus! 🎄 I meant to say, I am so glad to hear that Jen still flies! I am thrilled that she is not only my sewing hero but my "want-to-be pilot" hero, too!
We love the idea of putting flowers or decor in these, and you're right, you could use any bowl because the cozy is the focus!
Isn't Jen the best?! She's a pretty inspiring lady! :) - Morgan
I really enjoy these bowl cozy we use them a lot for ice cream and give as gifts. I love the precut batting saves so much time.

Love this bowl cozy. Made 2 sets this Christmas. Definitely get the product batting. It's a breeze to help you get started.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the tip! - Yajaira
made these for my co workers for xmas last year....I got a couple weird looks but they promised to "just try it once". and they were a hit! everyone loved them...hot or cold items...cereal to chili.....i use mine daily....I quilt each side seperately then put them together....
We love to hear that! They're so great once you use them, you never want to go back! - Morgan
I love watching how you put this together. Now I want to go and pick up Christmas material and make for gifts. 🥰🎄
Yes!! Christmas is coming soon!! 🎄🎅 🤶 -Michelle
I really enjoyed this video! I have made these before without the template or precut batting for gifts! It would have been easier and faster with your template though! Thank you for you cheerfulness! It makes your videos fun to watch!
The template really does speed up the process, but these are so fun to make anytime! Thank you for always being so active and kind in your comments! We love to hear from you and it's good to see familiar "faces".

Thank you Jen! Love these
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching! - Morgan
Great video! I really appreciate your “best practices” tips on how to have the most success. I’ve made two cozies in the past, and they are challenging due to so much bulk. The template looks to be very user friendly…😉

These are WONDERFUL gifts for the elderly. I have made some and it really makes transporting a hot or cold bowl from a counter to the table. Also nice for when you or someone is ill or bed bound. Nice to keep the soup hot, or ice cream cold.

Glad you like it! Let us know how your projects turn out! - Morgan
Well done Jennifer! Very good video, easy to follow. I have one done so far with no problems. I used my Bernina 350PE and the #37 foot, had no trouble getting over the "humps" on the top stitching. Hope to make a bunch more. The Clover turner works very well. Blessings!
Marilyn
Glad it was helpful and that you had fun! These are so much fun to make! - Morgan

@@ShabbyFabrics I just ordered the template and precut lining today. I’m so excited 🥳
Is it cute? Yes. Will it work. Yes. Is it perfect? Nope. But it was made with love and covered in prayer. It will be a gift tomorrow for a beautiful future bride. Now to make its mate. Microwave bowl cozy. Made it with the template, pre-cut batting, and closely watching this video. My first quilted anything. Thanks for teaching!

Thank you for mentioning NOT to use fabric with metallic details. I had bought fabric that I thought would be so cute, not even thinking that the pretty gold metallic parts were not going to work. You saved every microwave oven in my family! Thanks so much for the great step-by-step tutorial. It was so helpful!
We're happy to hear you found this tutorial so helpful!! Thank you for watching ❤️ -Michelle

Easy to follow. Thanks!
Hi Dannie - That's wonderful to hear. My goal is that anyone watching can clearly understand how to create the project that's being taught. Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. :) Jen
I've found that batting on just one side is equally effective and easier to sew due to less bulk.
Thank you for sharing that tip! - Morgan
That's good to know, the batting is the most expensive part. So if I can make extra ones, that's great.
I have made these with one piece of batting and two pieces of batting. it is easier to sew if you use one piece of batting but I've found that a little heat still comes through using only one piece of batting. If you don't mind that then use only one piece but I really like the effects of 2 pieces of batting.
@@ShabbyFabrics oq
I’m glad I have been watching the whole video even tho I have made these before. It never occurred to me to cut the batting out of the dart. Of course living in the boonies of the Maritimes we don’t have access to this wonderfully shaped batting.
😍 love this!
We're happy you enjoy this fun tutorial. Thanks for watching!! 🎄🎅-Michelle
I watched other bowl cozy tutorials and always struggled when putting one inside the other to sew them together! I wonder why I didn't think of doing it the way you did it! Duh! Now, I'm excited to try again!
So glad it was helpful!
Thank you! Enjoy! This is our favorite soup!
Turkey Chowder
1 cup finely chopped green onion
1 cup finely chopped carrot
1 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups turkey broth or 2 cups chicken bouillon
2 cups half-and-half
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon white pepper
1 dash cayenne pepper
2 cups diced cooked turkey (canned turkey works just as well, I use about four of those "tunafish" sized cans)
Directions:
1
Saute onions, carrots, celery in butter until soft but not brown.
2
Blend in flour.
3
Gradually stir in broth, then half& half.
4
Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
5
Stir in salt, pepper, cayenne, and turkey.
6
Stir a few minutes until turkey is heated through.
7
Devour!
Sounds amazing! Thank you so much for sharing that recipe with us. We are eager to try it! - Yajaira
If you iron the 1/4 inch seam allowance in that opening BEFORE you turn it, it is easier (even if you have to re-iron a little bit after, too).
That's a great tip, thank you for sharing! - Morgan
That’s a great idea ! I’ve been making tons of masks and this might work there too because it’s a pain to get it together for the top stitch and I often miss it and have to rip and re-stitch!
Learned something new great
We're glad you enjoy this project. Thanks for watching!! 💖 -Michelle
A must try !
Thank you for watching! - Sophie
FUN & CUTE !!!
Hi Robin - these are SO fun to make and they are really easy! I hope you'll give it a try! :) Jen
When I made placemat, I used the leftover fabric to make strips for matching bowl cozies
What a lovely idea! Thank you for watching! - Yajaira
Great tutorial! Thank you for this. I didn't even think to use a jelly roll what a great idea! I will be trying this soon. I just made a small one with 2 different fabrics (just because). I hope to make the large Halloween 👻one from your other tutorial you did recently. I just need to get that template. 😉
We're happy this project has inspired you! Thank you for watching!! 💖 -Michelle
These are also great for Ice Cream, Anything you warm in the Microwave, cobbler, mac and cheese, left overs. I keep ours beside the microwave. I have 3 sizes to accomidate my different bowls. I used a bowl to round my corners and make the "V" But I never thought about using strips, thanks for the idea. I ask at Joann's what kind of batting and they walked me back and helped me pick it out.
Thats great! Thank you for sharing. If you have any further questions. I will be more than happy to help! - Yajaira
Your a great teacher
Thank you! We're happy you enjoy this project. Thanks for watching! 💖 -Michelle
