Oh and btw, the "not generic fantasy europe" fe is getting there. Feh aside taking from a lot of norse myth, Engage takes more from more especific parts of the world instead of generic fantasy europe, with solm being based in the middle east but above all Latin America, since Mika Pikazo lived there for most of her life (and as a latinoamerican myself...yeah it fits. Timerra, Fogado and Sephoria specifically behave like your typical latino family, and the diversity of characters that come from Solm does fit with Latinoamerica being a cultural melting pot. Even the desert makes sense considering Chile has A LOT of it)
Hopefully they will follow Feh and Engage's lead on that one

Honestly even in Medieval Europe you have a lot of potential that's not exploited, like imagine something inspired by a more "Eastern Slavic" setting, that's something that's very rarely seen and could make a game stand out. Or also a Byzantine themed place could be genuinely dope, same for Italy.
Medieval Europe has a lot of really cool inspirations you can take if you do more than just mesh everything together in a mix and focus on one particular area for your inspiration, you'll see that it has a lot of unique qualities that would make your setting stand out if you focus on those

silent protagonist avatars are awful. byleth was my least favorite fire emblem character. Alear was a little better because they actually did have a personality but they were a bit uninspired. Fire emblem isn't a game with character choice, a blank slate protagonist only makes sense when the player has significant control over the flow of the story.
Bonus EXP was incredibly fun to play around with in the telius games and i'd love to see that come back.
The hub base area needs a revamp, engage helped stream line that part of the game so it wasn't as slow and intrusive as the monastery but ultimately they could use much more engaging mini games, the worlds most basic fishing game or a rapid tap push up game are barely content.
Multiple costumes available or editable costumes for characters would be great. I loved citrine in engage in her default dress, it was perfect for a mage while also being attractive and elegant. It fit her noble aesthetic perfect, then she classes up into an outfit that doesn't match at all, something that feels more appropriate for a dark mage. Three houses did a bit of this but it could go so much further. Let me just remove the BBQ lid off of Ivy without having to totally class her into something else. Think of the possibilities with Rosado
And for the love of god just let the localization be with minimal editorial changes. We don't need an ultra easy mode, we don't need to sanitize a marriage into "lets be super mega best friends", the gay characters can be gay, the femboys can be femboys. Does my big sister clearly have a thing for me for some reason? is it kinda weird? whatever, lets do it, its in the og lets do it.
and please....god please....let the archer be an ok unit.

I kinda hope FE brings back the sort of sub-categories of weapons, like how Fates had split Nohr/Hoshido weapons or Engage had Greatsword/lance/axe weapons that always had you attack second but push the enemy back a space. But tweaked a bit more to make them a little more distinct to use without feeling too gimmicky.

Personally, I’d really like an FE game with terrain play as a major focus. I thought up the concept a while ago, and basically units can get skills that can create terrain or affect things like stats, movement, range, etc on that terrain, and for harmful terrains those effects would be negated. Expanding the amount of terrain and how they work would also be cool, like strong winds or smoke that would affect flying units, or using thunder magic on water terrain doubles its damage, stuff like that

  • @LELA37

Honestly one of the things I want the most that would be REALLY simple to implement would be a toggle for turnwheel at the start of the game alongside casual/classic mode. Playing with turnwheel available makes you inherently more inclined to make risky decisions and I'd rather not have to deal with my own self control telling me it's fine to just go for the yolo play because I can turnwheel it. I want to have to make strategically sound decisions in my strategy game and not get bailed out

This is a pretty solid wishlist; I can’t speak on a ton of the points since I’m not nearly as hardcore of an FE player, but I completely agree that FE could stand to experiment more with its magic system, and I like the idea of placing more emphasis on status effects.
The debuffs from Three Houses were fun, but it’s a bit of a shame it was locked to dark magic specifically, cause there’s definitely room to expand beyond that.
Like, it’s kinda wild to me that FE has had fire magic in basically every game, but no burn status iirc, lol.
I also agree that FE could use some more shakeups in terms of the setting, and I especially like your idea of an FE with a more Gothic setting, as it’s not that far from FE tradition, but would still give its game a distinct flavor.
I mean, someone went through the trouble of making that whole Vampire Emblem fake leak, so clearly there’s _an_ audience for it.

  • @luckylucas8596

What if the turn wheel was based on kills or some other tracker of map progress? Maybe you get one for free at the start of any given chapter, but you can only earn more by killing X number of enemies or visiting a village or capturing a strategic point-or some combination of progress markers. That way you’re afforded a bit of leniency the further you get into the map, but you’re not incentivized to play like a dummy from the beginning since you have a very limited number of charges.
Then, if you really want to make me happy, any leftover turn wheel charges turn into bonus EXP, but I don’t think we’re going to get bonus EXP back (even though we should).
Edit: And if you beat the game without using the turn wheel at all, you get a Vampire Emblem version of the Creature Campaign from Sacred Stones.

all of these asks are fantastic ideas, but I especially agree with the points about thieves and a change of setting!!
Playing engage and realizing that chests could be accessed by literally anyone and that thieves a) didn't have exclusive dagger access and b) couldn't even promote was super disappointing
with regards to setting, I've been replaying the fates trilogy, and even though I have a giant list of problems with birthright, I still enjoy playing it over conquest (I will definitely regret sharing this take) solely because I love the aesthetics and music direction so much more, and it truly is the only place you get non-western anything in mainline fe
this might be another hot take but I also had a problem with the setting of awakening, because we're supposed to believe that archanea 3000 or whatever years later has almost identical aesthetics and technology (or lack thereof)??? it makes sense to not want to shake the boat with a series revival but it still irks me whenever I replay awakening that they didn't go with anything different

    • @Afbuster
      @Afbuster 11 дней назад +5

There's plenty of discussion around Supports because the way they're implement is very limiting and in some aspects just... not good. Like the fact that C supports often introduce the characters' gimmick, so you end up with many of samey conversation that paint the characters in worse light than they should. Or the fact that outside of special circumstances, support convos can't be written around what's happening currently in the main story, which lessens its impact.
Some, but probably not many, people actually take it as far as wanting the whole thing gone. But I think it just needs some tweaking, or maybe separate system that would characterize the cast without relying on Supports. Maybe something like Trails series does? Taking a scheduled break at the hub to see bonding events specifically designed for that moment in the story.

    • @yoel9396
      @yoel9396 10 дней назад +2

I wouldn't go as far as asking to remove supports but as the guy above said they're very bland and limited in their current form.
Personally I want less supports that are better written and longer as well as time sensitive so the characters can talk about events in the story, maybe even make some missable like if one of your characters gets perma'd and others react to it or if doing certain actions unlocks a convo that leads into a new promotion/weapon but obviously I'm just daydreaming and none of this will ever happen and now I'm sad

I don’t think so? I might be wrong but from what I’ve seen, a lot of people want support partners to be more limited since support buffs aren’t anything substantial anymore & a lot of the conversations feel drawn out and forced.
I’d honestly prefer something similar to the limited support partners idea from earlier FE, but instead of literally only having 5 conversations total, maybe the ability to C support anybody, limit the B support to like 5 people and A supports to 2 or 3. That way, you can still have tons of conversations and connections w people, allow for replayability by trying out different pairings and have B & A support buffs matter to the gameplay.
They could even have a friend group system where if 3 people all reach A supports with each other, they can do triangle attacks or give each other major buffs when they’re nearby.

To hit two Pegasus Knights with one Sniper, I’d personally add in a Bomber Mage class. They’d use a type of magic that works like an explosive: planting magic “landmines” on the map from a distance, holy hand grenades to throw an extra space or two away, Magic Missile from DnD, the sky’s the limit. For balancing I’d make it weak but it could hit multiple targets or penetrate defense/resistance. That’d add new magic and a new weapon type, the Firebrand (possibly as a nod to the Firebrand from the TearRing saga series as a deep cut for FE fans)
Also Vampire Emblem. I need the Jagen to have a fancy wine glass at all times (with a cool sipping animation for crits lol)

  • @Kakashi20xd6

For weapons, I want durability with limited upgrading by a flat +1 bonus. Special plot weapons can still be unbreakable and scale with the equipped unit’s skill level to essentially be an unlimited use +1 material type of that tier.
Keep support chains and give me proper S supports and ending cards, because I’m shipping trash. Maybe even make the overall cast smaller, but everyone has supports with each other so it doesn’t feel like a “waste” to have your best dodge tanks who lack a chain hold a choke point or something. Also, no time sensitive supports unless a unit is fated to die. Support progression being tied to story is still fine as long as points can keep building in the meantime like in Three Hopes.
I still want a hub, but don’t want chores. It should be there to shop, go over supports, share a meal or two for support gains, and get everyone’s fully voiced acted two cents on the current story chapter.
Instead of having busy work skirmishes to padout game time, grind resources, and even out exp for benched units, I wouldn't mind a system where you can dispatch the B squad to handle those off-screen while you’re doing a paralogue or story mission. Any unit solely delegated to B squad would always be a couple levels behind, but still plenty viable to replace someone fallen in an ironman run.
In the above context of no units falling too far behind in levels, give me some big team battles.
The return of proc based skills. Roll the dice for that Vantage-Astra-crit, baby.
Totally agree on units having limited class options. I wouldn’t mind mind Anna having an unlimited stock of promotion seals to buy right off the bat either.
How about this for Turn Wheel? There is now only a finite number of charges to use for a single playthrough on classic mode(obviously with less and less at higher difficulties) and charges can be traded for stat boosters or gold at the hub for a bit of risk-reward.

Argument to turnwheels. It actually encourages players to try different strategies without being punished. Fire emblem is notorious for being an "end turn" simulation, and turnwheels can give newer/intermediate players a way to try and do cool player phase strats without having to reset an entire chapter. That is how i learned to be more aggressive in my playpattern.

I really like your idea about restricted and sandbox reclass modes. I really enjoyed Fates’ reclassing and how it made characters feel super unique and incentivized targeted support building. I also agree about the hub worlds, I’ve played every Fire Emblem game at this point and have been a die hard fan since around 2010 and my biggest gripe with the series is how half of the gameplay time goes towards hub worlds and the other half is actual maps. It gets exhausting and is partially why it took me nearly 2 years to finish Engage. I would also love explicitly gay characters and supports, and more diversity in the cast. I just recently finished Engage and I played with the default name Alear for the avatar. It was so jarring and off putting to have the text read out the name but the voice acting would just completely skip over it. I would love to see FE either go the Zelda route where they dont let you pick your name or, like you suggested, have a few names you could pick from that would be voice acted

If you play or Normal mode in Engage you actually get infinite Time Crystal uses and while I did abuse the hell out of it, I hated that it meant I could rewind as much as possible. Fire Emblem should be about committing and adapting; if you attack with a unit but they miss and it costs them their life, you either have to adapt your strategy around not having that unit anymore, or reset the map so you can get them back. I'm current replaying Revelation and Azura died as I was fighting the boss on Chapter 22, and I had to seriously consider whether or not I was gonna finish the game without a dancer. That's one part of Fire Emblem I love. There are tangible consequences for your actions but you also have control over how you proceed. Turn wheel mechanics take away a lot of that. I don't think we're ever gonna get a game without it, but I agree it should be way more balanced

If they were to add muskets in Fire Emblem, I think they should take inspiration from their real-world use by making them work like Crossbows in Tellius (consistent performance regardless of the weilder's stats).
Muskets were useful even though they were usually outperformed by bows because anyone could use them with minimal training. I think making their performance not dependant on the user (and possibly making them usable by any class) would give them a good niche as a weapon type that's good at training Ests but not very useful on stronger units.

The 3DS games nailed the reclassing system by giving us opportunities to be creative but not give us too much freedom to the point where everyone becomes a wyvern rider (cough cough, switch games). If they're going to do a HUB, they HAVE to keep it concise and make the buildings near each other because my god doing my maintenance stuff in Three houses during the Monastery phase was EXAUGHSTING.

I like some ideas with this and don't like others. But I wanted to share my idea I really want to see, even though I don't think it's very realistic. I basically want a game (doesn't have to be a standard thing, could just be something they do one time to try it and never again and I'd be okay with that) where they fully do away with reclassing entirely and each unit ALSO has a unique class. Each unit has a different combination of things such as mounted vs not, heavy armor vs not, and maybe 1-3 weapon types they can use. I would think of locking or capping weapon ranks similar to what engage does, and have it where the units with only one weapon type they can use have S rank, whereas those with 2 are maybe locked at A or B and those with 3 are locked at C. I think it would be really interesting to feel like every character is unique not only in characterization and appearance, but also in gameplay. Plus, it would force them to create unit types that have never existed before. Like, give me a heavy armor flier that can only use staves. Their character could be that they're very frail, so they need the armor to survive, and thus they also can't risk being in combat, so that's why they only use staves. Maybe there could be a character who uses fists, bows, and magic because they like to feel like they're ready for any possibility that could come their way. Maybe they're really anxious so they like to be prepared for everything, that's why they learned 3 very different fighting styles. I just think it would be really cool to see them experiment. You would still have classes that are very normal, but you would also be able to experiment more and maybe some of them turn out a lot better than they'd think and they'd get brought into other games. And it would also be interesting to have it set up where if you want to do unique things with your army, you have to use different characters and you can't just use the same ones every time

My biggest asks aren’t really things you could put on the back of a box to sell a game or anything, but I’d really like them to bring back recruiting characters actually being a meaningful side objective as opposed to their current method of essentially just handing you most new recruits just for making it to their chapters.
It’d also be nice to see more of an emphasis on telling stories through map design, but I’m not really holding my breath on either of those.

I think a way to balance turnwheel could be to have it cost renown.
The renown could be used to claim things such as items, weapons, stat buffs or even recruit characters with. This would reward players that choose to not use the turnwheel, and make them question if using the turnwheel is even worth it.
And the turnwheel cost could be free on easy or casual mode, while increasing it on higher dificulties.

Okay, just a nitpick, but I don’t agree with the idea that Byleth and Alear are avatars. Robin and Corrin were clearly meant to be avatars given how customizable they were, but Byleth and Alear are fully treated like their own character, you can just change their name because hey, that’s kinda common rpg practice, not as much now but a lot of games do that. I mean, you can change Cloud’s name in FFVII, or many of the protagonist’s names in Final Fantasy. You can also change Link’s name in every game not named Breath of the Wild. But are they avatars? No they’re treated as their own characters.

Hell, even some Dragon Quest games let you choose between male and female characters, and those characters are just silent protagonists, Alear actually speaks and has a real personality, making them feel like a real characters. Byleth did not do it as much but thanks to other source material like Three Hopes it made them feel like their own character.

My point is just because a character has a fully customizable name does not mean they are just avatars because, again, a lot of RPGs do this, and most people consider them their own character like Cloud from Final Fantasy VII. Hell if anything I think stuff like this is the reason it has become a practice that has faded overtime, but Byleth and Alear can get past this because they have titles that the characters can call them to get past the different names.

I think something like the valor meter from Unicorn Overlord would be a good way to keep the Turnwheel from being too cracked; Start a map with 2-3 uses and you can get more/refill the uses by killing enemies & completing objectives. I'm going a lot off of Engage as that's the game I last completed, but:
I would like to see magic expanded upon as well. Heck, I actually miss the magic weapon triangle from GBA (& Tellius to a lesser degree). Debuffs _a la_ Emblem Soren in Engage could be a start - Thunder reduced Hit by 20, Fire reduced Defense by 3, and Wind reduced Movement by 2. Could reintroduce the magic triangle in some way and add fitting debuffs or effects for each kind of magic, perhaps? What if all schools of magic were as peak as GBA Dark magic?
Thieves felt like a nothing-burger in 3H, Engage solved it *a bit* by having low distribution on Daggers and giving the melee daggers extra Crit, which synergises nicely with the two starting Thieves (and Panette!), but I think it could've been better if they actually had crit on par with Killer weapons and not like, a Wo Dao at best. Engage Thief poison is also neat, though, it's scored me otherwise impossible kills here and there. And it also helps that Thieves are actually pretty usable in endgame, unlike 3H.
I think more limited reclassing would be more fun. To draw from Engage and Panette again, it'd draw further attention to her past and *actual* proficiency with Daggers if she could only reclass into Thief, Wolf Knight, and Warrior, on top of Berserker. 3H had a decent idea with having some characters having penalties for learning certain skills (which can turn into proficiencies), but there weren't enough of these in a way that mattered.
More unit classes in the way Engage did it could be incredibly cool, perhaps with more nuanced or interesting abilities. Heck, just more interesting class niches would do the trick. Thieves felt slightly more useful in Engage because they could open doors instead of having to use two units or one synced with Ike to open them. Make chest keys a thing again so you can decide whether to use them or a Thief.

10000% agree on the more limited reclassing, while it can be fun to have units be super customizable or to do silly runs like making everyone sages or generals, the lack of unit identity it brings hurts a lot. maybe the only other thing i would add would be to bring back recruits not always being automatic. not every character needs to have such esoteric recruit conditions as stefan, but recruit conditions like rutger's or astrid's are fun both from a roleplaying perspective and also to add some extra objectives to maps. although if characters are going to be automatically recruited from the first turn PLEASE let their equipment be changeable from the preps screen.

  • @LealFireball
    @LealFireball 10 дней назад

I think they should do away with reclassing on a first playthrough and have it unlock as a new game+ and/or as an alternate gameplay mode, so they can more carefully craft a well directed experience for the first-time player but also provide alternative ways to go around the game once you already know it. As for the the turnwheel stuff I think that first the charge number should persist on following chapters so you need to do specific things to get them back (like not use them for chapter), and also they should be proactively used rather than reactive, effectively portable save points so using them is also an strategic decision.
They should also separate support ranks from the actual conversations, let the support ranks be purely for gameplay purposes but they then unlock conversations when they're most appropriate in the story (or as flashbacks if you unlock the support rank late), so they can properly fit support conversations into the narrative and maybe even into the main story.

I would like to see the series move past base wandering. It made sense in 3H but even there, sometimes I didn't want to stop playing the game to fish or comb through the same areas over and over for tea leaves, lost items, and materials, yet I felt like if I didn't do those things I would be losing effectiveness in the main portions of the game.
One thing I'd like to see, even if it might be hard to implement in a permadeath environment, is splitting up the army for different missions. I am mainly thinking of when Radiant Dawn did this idea towards the end. Basically, at points in the story you will need to choose to split your team to handle different maps. Fire emblem rosters can grow pretty big in most playthroughs, but only allow for so many of those units to join the fight each battle, and there is not much stopping you from just picking your favorites and letting over two thirds of your military warm the bench all game if that's how you'd want to play. Here, I think some more thought would have to be given to spreading exp around a little more so you don't get stuck in a map where everyone you have left to choose is so underleveled to become a grueling slog. Maybe after you pick your units to go attack an enemy fortress, the next battle is a surprise attack on your base that you need to defend with whoever you left behind, as your away group has not returned yet. If you can choose ahead of time how to divide up your forces for the next few maps, maybe a little summary of what to expect would help give the player an idea of who to send where, like if the fight will take place on plains (bring high move characters), in the middle of the night in an enemy castle (fog of war mechanics and treasures to steal), the desert map (magic units and fliers), defending battlements set with ballistas (armor knights and archers). Preparing for the right battle, can be just as important as the moment to moment tactics, and you can't bring the same units to fight in each one so choosing which maps you think with benefit from your units' strengths the most is crucial.

As certified shipping trash, I want either S supports fully back or paired endings back after Engage took them from us.
Gameplay-wise, I want more skill variety and options. One of my biggest complaints with Three Houses and Engage as a 3ds baby was that the skills felt...boring. In 3h it's prowesses, the relevant blow skill, and maybe a faire or range up or crit up, and in Engage it's...um...canto and avoid +20, anyone? Also, the Engage class skills are boring. I like the idea of fixed class skills *alongside* level up skills like in the 3ds emblems (coincidentally, three houses did this sort of), but I want them to be weird and powerful and fun. Swing for the fences!
One last wish for funsies: give me back 3ds era portrait sprites. Obviously they're not gonna remove 3d spriting, I just also want fun little face-size portraits like we had on the 3ds.

For the next game, I'd like for them to do another game without route splits, and in general, keep the scope of the plot in check. But, you know, actually try this time (re:engage story).
Thracia has probably the best overall narrative/storytelling of any FE game imo, and it's exactly because its scope limited, and therefore focused (cf. RD, 3H) and well paced (cf. FE4).
I'd also prefer for them to focus more on making the units distinct and relfective of their character over a sandbox style approach, but I'd also be fine if they sometimes do sanboxy, rpg-esque games and other times more srpg heavy ones. I played through Engage only once and without a single reclass, so funnily enough that sated that itch for me for now, even if I know that the "meta" is to reclass a ton.

Also one of the most important thing to me was being able to create your own map and challenge those of others, that way you always had a "new" challenge to take on, engage kinda tried to do it but it's worse than in fates and if that was improved upon I think it would be great because letting the players create their map means the creativity of the players will shine through and those games tend to do well both for the players and developpers

It’s almost certainly just the furry talking, but the manaketes in Awakening were always my favorites when I first started playing because by gods turning into a dragon is THE coolest way to fight ever, and I just think it’s a shame that the current generation of FE newbies isn’t getting that experience.

    My list:
    1. If using Avatar let me choose the starting class, also make them the lowest rank (initially, and never surpassing starting characters) member of the Lord's retinue. Make it that I as the player are somewhat out of the loop at times of the decision making. Similar to how Sherlock Holmes is written from Watson's perspective for the same reason.
    2. Just make reclassing a NewGame+ thing, don't do it the first time around. Perhaps have blank slate trainee characters that you can freely reclass a single time from a generic Lance based trainee.
    3. Do a hub world, but use Three Hopes as the model. That hub was tight and had activities you could get through incredibly quickly.
    4. Make it allowed to start a map without the Avatar and Main Lord present. Perhaps add a penalty for the Main Lord, such as losing 2 deployment slots (The Lord + 1). Additionally make no death or objective a instant failure states (although have rewards and consequences) to make it very Iron Man friendly.
    5. Just remove EXP entirely. It seems that there is no way to properly balance it to not be exploitable, so don't even try. Just do something simple like everyone is the same level as the Chapter number, but people who participated in the previous battle temporarily get a level ahead.
    6. Bonus: If I had to add a weapon type, I would add crossbows as something different from Bows. Don't even have a weapon skill associated with it, but make it an expensive way to give anyone 2 range (Edit: maybe even make it scale by Dex). Then pull back on the amount of 1-2+ range present.

If the player chooses the default name in Mass Effect Andromeda, other characters will actually say it. The game was very flawed but hearing your romance actually call you by name is such a huge upgrade overall so I definitely approve of it coming to FE.

Heres what I want, whether or not it would be good for the series is not my concern lol
-Children units, but let them have support conversations with non-children units.
-Awakening's world map. Even My Castle from Fates was a bit too much for me at times, and the hubs from Three Houses and Engage have almost entirely driven me away from modern FE.
-Characters who feel less tropey and anime and more like believable people.
-Pixel sprites on the map. The pixel sprites were always so much cooler to me than the 3d models.
-Some sort of "open-world" (bear with me here) system where you can recruit units in unique orders playthru-to-playthru, allowing for more personalized and unique runs on repeat playthrus.
-The pair-up system of Awakening, but balanced.

I think a Fire Emblem game that's inspired by like golden-horde-era Mongolia would be sick. Main antagonists could be like medieval Russia or imperial China, possibly both if we want multiple enemy factions

A mounted archer lord would be pretty sick ngl

To be fair, Sacae was always steppe nomad inspired.
Heck, while we’re on this, why don’t we throw the Turkish in there for good measure?

I also want German voice acting for the next FE - Radiant Dawn already did it, so we can do it again
    Oh, and a SciFi-Emblem pls

I'd like a more modern-fantasy or science-fantasy seting for one of these. I dunno why, but Space Fire Emblem just seems cool to me, or even just some sort of city-planet. Though, I say the same for Zelda, too...
And Vampire Emblem? Well, if you WANT to pander to me...

I just want the game to be fun and have a tolerable story. An actually goodish story would be a nice bonus.

You pretty much hit a lot of the issues i had with modern FE (especially with the hubs god those are annoying) though in general i mainly just want another FE game with a cool cast of characters that bounce off each other well, my issue with Engage was that the characters were mostly kinda just there? So preferably i’d want them to not take that from Engage and instead take elements from Engages gameplay i liked and elements from 3H’s story/worldbuilding to make a new FE game and then probably throw it in like a Gothic setting like you said since Rika Suzuki’s style looks very much like a gothic painting and while i think i’d want a FE4 remake as the next FE (though i am a bit cautiously optimistic about it due to the subject matter) seeing an FE game take on a gothic setting would be fricken sick but yeah that’s basically what i wanted to say on the matter.
