5th gear very easy to change. Dont even need to take the gearbox out. Remove side plate of the gearbox, remove synchro and 5th gear and replace, fresh oil done. Think it Took about 1 hour Had to do the same on my van👍👍
I had a 60 reg Berlingo which developed the same problem with not being able to select 5th gear. A garage told me that it's easily fixed by tightening a nut under a cover on the N/S end of the .gearbox (which they did). I drove that van for 343,000 miles without any other problems.
Guys I had the same 5th gear go.I had it replaced without removing gearbox.it’s the end cover.I think there’s a RUclips video….keep up these great videos on different motors, brilliant.👌
Worth whipping the end cover off the gearbox which gives access to the 5th gear set. I've had 2 now that list 5th,both were fine after doing the nut up..
LOL, I would like to see Rob hide a few bob in the back out the way, see if Chris finds it. Plus a few French franks just for fun. Or Rob could get back to the yard and say, eya mate, there was a fiver in this one, an I ain't sharing lol.
That blue berlingo at Kent auto Salvage looked like an ex taxi as it had a taxi meter hanging down the side of the dash. And Chris made a great job of taking them stickers off..
I have the 8 valve 1.6hdi engine in my Peugeot Partner and it’s just clicked over 199,500 miles without issue. I have changed the oil every 6000 miles instead of the manufacturers recommended 10,000 and it’s good as gold. We still take it all over the Highlands without any worries. I think it’s worth repairing and would make a good van for someone.
The older Berlingo/Partner series stil soldier on....I have a few in maintenance and repair in my workshop...they are all doing fine!! And my own is 22 years old with the lovely 2.0HDIengine.......bought it for 200 Euro’s because it needed a new clutch!! I drove over 34.000km in the past 10 months and it is now nearing 350.000km....but no issues whatsoever, very economical and a joy to drive, also for long distances!! The ONLY rust common on these is the sills;I’ve just repaired my LH one.....but that is quite ok for a van of this age....
Be a good little van for someone. With it having been used by a window blinds installer it won’t have lugged massive loads. Just high mileage. Fixed gearbox will make it very desirable. I had the use of one to do the quay crane inspections at Southampton and it was a turbo diesel. Went like the clappers and ran on the sniff of an oily rag. Only reason I wouldn’t buy one is I can’t get the drivers seat back far enough because of the cage Citroen install behind it. I’ll be keen to see how you get the paint matching under where the stickers were. Great video fellas. See you next time.
The best sticker glue remover is eucalyptus oil (get an Australian subscriber to send you a bottle), far superior to thinners and it smells a lot nicer as well. Very useful for a lot of other things as well.
Nice little van, high mileage isn't a problem if the vehicle has been looked after properly. Love the way Chris scours the vehicles for any loose change.... you'd have thought people would have twigged that one by now.
Great vid Rob and Chris, it’s a real pleasure being able to see what you both get up to, brilliant partnership. Going to be a cracking little van after it’s had the treatment.
Hi Chris don't tell Rob but they exchange old Pound coins for new ones at Banks and main Post Offices. I did one this week at my Local P.O. which turned up in a car!
Chris the money Phantom ! He earned it de-stickering. Quite a shock seeing a more or less empty scrap yard. Your the go to get things man Rob, must be well known around the salvage yards.
Chris had that one off to a tee, peeling those vinyls off was mind-numbing for him, but it looks the works already. That said and done, it should be a lovely turn-a-round almost a flip and out the door. Even though it has worked hard, it is a great prospect for a new owner in need of something to meet their needs at a price that will not hurt. Rob's dashing about, fetching and carrying, finds the essential bits as usual.
Back in the sixties I worked in used car sales and the first thing to check when a part exchange came in was under the seats for coins quite often I found more then my weeks wages under a seat(back then my weeks wage was £4)
i used to work at signwriting and vehicle graphics company best thing to get that glue residue off believe it or not is petrol its better than any thiners or spirits
Hello Rob and Chris, Sitting in the sun, peeling off stickers... that's my sort of job..😎 That vinyl artwork probably cost more than you paid for the van!!! Cordialement,
Anyone would think Chris never gets any pocket money!! No doubt you'll get this van looking presentable and in working order so it will do somebody a turn and you've done you bit to save it from the breakers. Cheers as always.
Another peach of a video, I’m certain Chris is “playing” up to the title of cashhunter 😂. Good to see a high mileage van going through your hands as well as when you do newer low mileage stuff . 👍👍
Love a £500 van just as much as Bentley or a lambo video ! It's great how you guys haven't turned into ott RUclipsrs only fixing flashy out of reach cars for normal folks and I for one am very jealous of the great workshop setup Chris has ! I do wish you could make the car vertical bit a bit shorter though ? I know they sponsor you but it's a bit of a drag everytime ! And Chris should definitely keep all the change for a yearly weigh in just like the scrap 😉
Nice vlog, had a Berlingo it had done over 200 thousand miles, like you say these modern vans last as long as you look after them,I have a 2014 long wheelbase transit connect and it's as quiet a mouse,it's done as we speak 219 thousand miles, have a good week ☕🍰
Have you any news on the Range Rovers .. love to see a bit of work on the classic.. must be nearly a year since you put the new floor in there .. perhaps a small video to see how that’s faring? Nice little van to enjoyed the running around behind the scenes.. looking forward to the next one 👍
With this van, most people would have been like the previous owner and would have written it off as end of life scrap but with you 2, it's a bit of tinkering around and it's as good as new 😀 👍.
Bare in mind these they are likely sponsored by car vertical to advertise and promote the service viewers can buy, this is an essential revenue stream for Chris and Rob to be able to take time out of their day to film, edit etc for our entertainment. I will also say, they have not gone down the route of most other channels whereby they start advertising dieting supplements and non slip bath mats or whatever which you have to give them huge respect for as im sure with the platform they have, they have been offered numerous sponsorships. I have absolutely zero affiliation with chris and rob, or car vertical but their backround checks on cars is one of the most informative ones ive ever seen and will be of great benfit to many viewers when buying a car, im sure it has saved quite a few from buying a headache already. So yes, of you are a regular viewer, you will of course find the car vertical bit of the vids a bit long winded but bare in mind that is what likely makes these videos possible.
@@chriswhite4915 yeah I know, I sit through all their other sponsored ad sections to support the channel, but I just cannot stand the car vertical bits 😂 I have actually used car vertical for my HPI checks because of them, I just can't watch 2/3 minutes of it.
Hello Rob and Chris, another lovely little van that looked so much better just with the stickers removed. Chris was well pleased with the money he found in the van. 😂 Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Hi from durham guys👋👍 great job on the little berlingo👍 and its amazing how you just cleaned up yard and got rid of the donar one which is a shame cos you would of most bits in one shot for test and the steering wheel plus gaiter and did you keeep box of it or did you put engine and box in chris's? Man thats just crap but it happens I suppose cant wait to see it mop'd tho paint should come up mint 👌 cant to see you swap boxs tho and the old pound coins should collect and donate to charity box as on count the bank has to count still but mark it out of service👌thanks for your time and be safe see you soon guys 👍👋
Hi Rob & Chris that van is looking good you both work so hard to get the van back on the road looking like new all the best to you both and your family's 😎😎👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🔧🔧
Excellent chaps well done that’s a good one you’ve got there, in regards to cleaning/valeting it may be a good idea to invest in a karcher or kranzle HOT power washer, it would certainly blast that paint away especially on the interior and would get good usage for all of your other projects, good luck best regards Mark from Billericay 😀👍🇬🇧🚗☀️
Tidy little van for somebody. Thank god for vinyls👍this one would have been a scrapper for sure before the lockdowns etc. Good to see older vehicles being recycled into use. Our local Hermès man has a Berlingo with over 200k on the clock - just run in as he says😂😂😂
I see you’ve got another one of my favorite vehicles, a van! 🎉 Somehow, looks like you’ve landed on another good one. Now I’ve got to go find out what a Berlingo van is and what permutations it comes in. If nothing else, I am going to learn about all these every day cars and trucks which run around the UK countryside on a daily basis. Now, if we somehow could just get you guys to drive on the right side of the road. 😉
5th gear very easy to change. Dont even need to take the gearbox out. Remove side plate of the gearbox, remove synchro and 5th gear and replace, fresh oil done. Think it Took about 1 hour

Chris stepping up with the commentary while solo filming.
Great to see.
Good lad.

I have a 2010 berlingo over 310,000 miles still going great
All these coins need to go in a pot and do a video at the end of the calendar/tax year or tax year "running the numbers" how much has Chris found 🤣
This has to be done!
@@leighburton1658 And, should be an annual giveaway too! Closest-exact guess wins the change! 😉

Nice to see Kent auto salvage back on the channel 😂
I really like the parts when you look round the salvage yards for the parts. It's interesting!
Worth whipping the end cover off the gearbox which gives access to the 5th gear set.
I've had 2 now that list 5th,both were fine after doing the nut up..
I have been told it's a common issue with these I have a 308 with the same engine and box no 5th gear and hard to get out
I love that Chris is straight into looking for spare change for the coffees. We should have a running total for the year. 😀
LOL, I would like to see Rob hide a few bob in the back out the way, see if Chris finds it. Plus a few French franks just for fun. Or Rob could get back to the yard and say, eya mate, there was a fiver in this one, an I ain't sharing lol.

Great video! Love the scrappy bit, reminded me of being a youngster getting bits off cars.
Another nice find for the Berlingo Brothers. Careful. You might start getting a reputation 😄😄😄

Showing up to the yard with coffee and bad news.

Nice van mate as for the old £1 you can change it at the bank as its still legal tender. But not usable in shops.
my local post office has happily taken a few recently too
If you take the cover off & tighten the nut on the mainshaft it’ll sort this & tighten all the selection of gears up. 👍
Brilliant video guys, love seeing a less expensive van getting the SR-UK treatment
Glad to see you decided to save the berlingo!
