- In this awesome and fun Blender Buzz tutorial, I am going to be showing how to model, rig and animate a wheel. If you already have a wheel, simply skip to the rigging part. As a bonus, I am even going to show you how to displace the group and the wheel rolls over it.

The amount of information you placed in a 19 minute tutorial is marvellous. Great job.
Great tutorial! Helps a lot! I didn't get the dynamic painting working yet though....
Can you make it so it "Detects" bumps in the floor?? Or if the floor is rising or lowering?!
Thanks. Very interesting. Great Video and learned a lot. All the best.
Thank you so much! I used what I learned to rotate the legs of a foldable table! Blender is so amazing!
Brilliant very good tutorial. Would have a go but my laptop is rendering a very long time... so have to wait, thanks for creating the tutorial.
You are a credit to mankind! Thank you!!
Joining them in Object mode beforehand has sorted my problem, onward :-)
How do we select bones in edit mode? I'm stuck at crtl +P 9:13, if I select them both in Object and switch over I don't get the offset menu. Oddly I had it working in 2.77 but I don't know how.
if i do this for a robot that has 2 wheels can i export it to ue4 and use it there
Thanks Pixxo my bear need two whiles for his motorcycle, great job, have a nice day
thnx for transformation constraint tutor, though it was not much of info about it, it just was enough to use it, and to know, where to dig if needed ))
Do you think you could do a tutorail on how to rig train wheels with siderods ( with bones ( like on this one ) so that it turns when you move the main bone )
That global z axis shortcut with Ctrl+n saves lives
I am using Blender 2.8 and have the same problem, does someone know the right shortcut?
Its shift + N
Is this posible in normal scene ? Because it is laging with one wheel and super high detailed plane.
Great tutorial. very useful
Thanks for the rigging tutorial -- it's really good. However, there is a serious problem with this rig: at 13:28 you seemed to show that the rig works when you change it's global orientation, but unfortunately, it does NOT. If you rotate the main bone 90 deg (so it is along the global Y axis), the wheel will not turn at all. If you rotate the main bone 180 deg, the wheel will rotate opposite the direction of motion).
Any help you might be able to provide on this would be really appreciated. I've been trying for days to get a wheel rig to work properly in any arbitrary global direction and I can't seem to get it to work. This seems like a bug in Blender where it is not honoring the "Local with Parent" space in the Transformation constraint.
Did you fix it?
4 years later and currently I'm struggling with the same problem..
this is so useful thank u so much .... but how can i speed up the tire and make it move so fast in short space?
Awesome tutorial
surely,i leart a lot in this 19min.. Thankyou
Great tutorial
simply awesome
6:43 Rigging starts
ok very nice
How we give suspention effect to car by obstacles plz tell me or make a video on this
Nice Car Rig, but when you turn the car 90 degrees, the Wheel stops tuning, Do you have a solution for this.
It would be nice if you Make a complete rig of a car . please this is a request
Really good tut thanks.
Really great!
thank you, it's work for me
thanks for this helpful tutorial!
I have a problem when I render animation the colour of a tyre was not there and it was just white please tell how I can make tyre have colour in rendering animation
Help. At 9:30, when i select the bones for parenting (ctrl + p). "Connected" is the only option. I don't have "Keep Offset" showing. What could be the problem? Is it on my bones?
It really helped! Thanks
I´m trying the constraint on an object but it doesn´t roll on X local , only on Y. Why is that?
To those who can't get the 'keep offset' when hitting ctrl-P, I found it would not show unless I'd joined the bones into 1 object. Select the 4 bones in object mode, click ctrl+J. When back in edit mode, it should come up as in this tutorial.
Edit: But now parenting seems to have no effect. Odd how many issues there were getting these things done. Is it that big of a difference between 2.78, and 2.79?
Great tutorial! Everything went exactly as planned! However, when I tried to render, the tracks don't show up. I know this is a rigging exercise but I've been wanting to do tracks for a project I'm working on for a long time and was blown away when i saw the simulator laying down geometry but then (when I went full render) the animation was totally fine. Just no tracks that time! Any help on this would be super appreciated! Thanks!!!
Any ideas? I'm at a loss!!
I'm at the same place, I've baked all physics for dynamic paint cache, and I have the markers on the Timeline, works fine in Object mode, but won't render.
technical issues. Wheel will not move when the rig is rotated...... you was moving the rig in global axis you should be using local axis that's technically accurate.
Merci beaucoup pour le tuto !
Great , but Can you make it 4 wheels
after ctrl p bone its not working as it doesnt joint with my tyre
Would you use the same method to rig a car with four wheels? If so, how would they be parented to the wheels as the wheels need to be parented to the car? Just a little stuck :/
Blender Buzz. Okay, so would all four rigs for the wheels be part of the same object? So instead of creating four separate rigs for each wheel, I would make them all as one? If so, how would I then attach this rig to the wheels and car?
Originally I had the car as a parent for each wheel, then I had a rig for each wheel like your tutorial, but I couldn't connect the rigs onto the wheels because it would unparent the wheels from the car? Since the rig would now be its new parent! But this only moves each individual wheel and not the car...is there any chance you would be able to make a video tutorial on full car rigging?!
Blender Buzz. Oh of course an empty might explain it, I've seen people put boxes around their wheels and it threw me off, had no idea it was an empty! But yes I know exactly where I am going wrong now, thank you for your time
Wow!!! amaging
i have the 2.78 verson as well but i cant ad an armature...
What is the function of the "Location Y min:6 max:-6" I don't understand what that is doing.
It is just a Y coordinates. So, for each 6 units object moves, wheel is rotated for 360d ( actually it is better to use 6,28 because is it 2*Pi which is exactly length of the circumference. And even better to use not constraints but "Drivers" so expression will be 6.28*var
Moon Buggy Tire!
What program are you using for recording?
''Movavi Video Editor'''www.movavi.com/zh/
wheel is not rotating at all.
my wheel rotate too fast.. how to fix this ?
The speed of movement in animation depends on the amount of time between the start frame and the end frame and the amount of location- and/or rotation-change within that playback time. So, if it's too fast, change the end frame to be later in the animation, as per the video at frame 250 instead of 60 for example.
2 fast 4 you
nice :)
failed to set value, i don't know why ?
I didn't get why we need four bones. First one has obvious purpose. Any next bone is for... ehhh.... Can't we just link rotation of bone to itselfs position? If no than okay, I get why do we need second bone. But I totally don't get why do we need two more bones. I don't see you using them for any reason.
Blender is supposed to be free and open software, yet they put limits on how many times you can append an armature
My wheels are not moving
me puede servir...........
I take tutorial wheel rigging,..for my basic skills
huh....So that's what local with parent is for.
Looks like a buggy tire.
THESE Armatures DO NOT WORK
This is bull shit, only can move in the x position, if the entire car turn the axis has been changed so no more wheel rotation
it's impossible to follow this video, mate! you dont really explain the logic of your constant configuration fidgeting!
Ist quite ez to understand just think About it ^^ OR just watch more Tutorials this might help you.
Wheel RIGGING in BLENDER is IMPOSSIBLE, DON'T ARGUE, I KNOW IT IS, THIS VIDEO IS PROPAGANDA
THIS IS NOT HELPING AT ALL
